I ordered the Bulgogi Fries and enjoyed the seasoned fries with bulgogi, mozzarella, scallions & spicy mayo. This was a great size portion that I couldn't finish it. I've been coming here for years, as I work across the street. They used to have delicious chicken and the best Kimchi. However, there's been a dramatic change! Remembered, my first experience here not being very good (about two years ago), due to their being an overzealous waiter who talked our ears off about everthing from sneakers to hats and that the Korena Fried Chicken was overcooked. I always feel like some places deserve a second chance, so since I work close to this location I decided to give it a redo. Took a trip during a late lunch break, after the noon rush, and found the place pretty empty. Interestingly enough, it still took someone over f ive minutes to even acknowledge that I was even there, even though there was a lady behind the bar - just steps from me. Someone finally came and took my order of the chicken strips, fries, and a drink. While waiting, I noticed that some of the tables weren't clean. I'm sure that the lunch rush was just ending, but no one was really attending to the tables during my time there. My food came out, after a little wait, and the presentation was OK, but the fry order looked a bit light and I had to ask for ketchup, even thought there was a little place for it on the fench fry holder. I was then given half a container of ketchup (see images). The taste of the spicy sauce was nice, but after a single bite of each chicken strip the batter fell right off of the strip. I don't recall ever seeing that before. I don't know what to do after this visit. I guess we'll see. read more

This was my first time at a Bonchon location so I did not have something to compare it to as other reviewers did but the food was good. Seating: there is a lot of indoor seating, couple of large booths for bigger parties and bar seating. There is a bar. We came for lunch and ordered from the lunch menu: - Bulgogi house fried rice - Chicken wings with seasoned fries (Parmesan cheese + parsley) - Boneless chicken "wings" with regular fries The Bulgogi house fried rice was great and I would get it again. The wings were okay. They gave me extra boneless chicken wings (a plus!) but I could not finish my food. Fries were also good. Service was a bit slow (took awhile to order food). There were a few others dining inside but otherwise no complaints about customer service. read more

The food was okay. I had the chicken katsu and it came with so much rice. Please get extra sauce if you order it. I didn't finish it and took it home, it does not really microwave well after a day. The wings were okay, doesn't heat up well after a day either. The service was okay. We stayed outside but the outside lights were just for decor. It would have been nice if the lights came on. The store wasn't even busy, and if it wasn't for us moving to a cleaner table-- the server probably wouldn't have even noticed us. "Have you been attended?" No. She gave us the menus and went on her way. 10 minutes later she finally made it back around and got our order. Plates and silverware came out, but she was missing a full set for our table. Halfway eating through the food, my mom reminded me there's supposed to be coleslaw or raddish with this. I told her it might only be a Virginia thing that it's complimentary. I grabbed the menu again and saw in fine print, side comes complimentary with the order. So, I flagged the server down and told her about the side dishes. She then asked me if I even ordered it. I told her she never even bothered to ask or let us know that it's complimentary with the order in the first place. Instead of owning up to her mistake, she makes an irrelevant excuse of "I don't do it because people get offended." Offended for what? Lord. Granted she could have offered to make up for her mistake and ask what we would like but she just stood there staring at me so I had to ask her if it's okay to get the sides now. She nonchalantly said "yeah." I was getting down to half a sip of water left and asked if I could get some more water. She looked at me and then asks me back "MORE water?" As if it's an outrageous request. Management, please hire. You guys are clearly understaffed if you have to put up a sign at the host stand to seat yourself. The service is good, but the place is slightly disorganized and dirty. Our food was just okay, but it was given to me in a chipped plate, not a super big deal. We payed with a $100 bill, which we made sure was okay beforehand, and when we payed (our bill was around $34), our server only gave us $35 in change, and wished us a good day. Our change was supposed to be $62. We were very confused as we had watched our server go back and forth across the restaurant with our change for about 10-15 minutes (assuming he was double checking with the manager). My boyfriend had to go back and tell them he needed more change, and they gave us $27 in crumpled ones. Overall not a great experience here. read more

The table ordered some edamame to start, but it came out to the table barely ahead of main dishes. I ordered chicken bibimbap without mushrooms. The veggies and chicken had a really good taste, but bowl was mostly rice and quinoa. The ratio was definitely disappointing. If there had been a batter ratio of mix-ins to grain, then my experience would have been more positive. My coworker's wings looked great! So I would try something else in the future. DO NOT COME HERE. And honestly, this branch of this franchise needs to be shut down. They are using ketchup instead of katsu sauce. It was terrible. When I pointed this out to our waitress, who was very sweet, she brought over her condescending and rude manager. The manager tried to "explain" to us that katsu is actually just "ketchup sauce". She also insisted the menu said this until I made her show me where on the menu, which clearly said KATSU SAUCE. I pulled out my phone and showed her photos of what katsu sauce looks like, it is a brown sauce that's tangy and sweet - it's based on worchester sauce. My husband and I ordered chicken katsu, and the POINT of the dish is it be served with KATSU SAUCE!! It had ketchup instead!!! The manager did send the dishes back and we opted to have them covered with spicy mayonnaise instead. It was just not good. I was so disappointed. I brought my parents here to show them a Bon Chon because I loved the one in downtown Houston, I was so embarrassed. This one was a complete mess. The ketchup as katsu sauce is not the only issue. The only "upside" is the restaraunt comped one chicken katsu for the trouble. The manager claimed that this Bon Chon was actually not really the same as the general chain franchise. Well, what do the franchise owners think of that? She also claimed the recipes they got from the franchise said to use ketchup . This location also uses pepsi, not coca-cola products despite what their menu says. The manager just started saying they're update the menu to reflect the ketchup and pepsi, but from the same complaints over 4 months ago I know that was a lie . I'm not sure what the owner of this location is trying to pull - they're obviously cutting corners - the franchise itself needs to pull their licensing because it is damaging their image and not following what their menus say. My parents never want to try another one despite the Bon Chon in downtown Houston being amazing. Came for a casual dinner with friends. The restaurant was situated in a complex area. Plenty of parking on site. We ended up ordering the 15 piece drumsticks. You can switch flavors for every 5 is what we were told. We ordered half soy garlic and the other half the new flavor they released this month (which is basically their soy garlic and spicy mixed together). The had another new flavor called Korean BBQ. So even on a regular day, the sauce choices are limited - which is a downside for me. The drumsticks are HUGE! We were in shock! Definitely worth the cost for sure. The flavors we chose were good. They felt under seasoned and could use more sauce. The buldak was alright but the chicken pieces felt odd, as if they were pre packaged chicken bites like in a salad bar of a restaurant. I really loved the fries, they were super hot and crispy. It seems they are understaffed which is tough on the workers but our server was nice. Overall, you can get better wings elsewhere.
