After reading Nicole T.'s review I just wanted to warn her and other vegans that no one at Bon Mi has ever been able to verify to me that their baguettes are vegan. All they've ever been able to tell me is they're not sure, they get their baguettes from safeway and the bags don't have an ingredient list on them. I've tried looking for them at safeway and the only one I found actually did contain dairy (which is rare for a baguette) so lacto intolerent people beware! It's a shame cuz those tofu sandwhiches sound epic, I hope they figure it out eventually. I was able to get their veggie pho which is vegan if they omit the fish oil. Finally, a Vietnamese place worth a damn in Eugene. The problem with this town is that it doesn't value nice places like Bon Mi. Thankfully, Bon Mi does not pander to the college crowd. Although it is certainly welcoming to university folks, Bon Mi is not a cheap, large portions, rice-and-beans joint, like so many other of the cheap, nondescript eateries that seem to pepper Eugene. Unpretentious, but clean, Bon Mi serves up a fresh and tasty Vietnamese banh mi sandwiches and savory pho beef soup. Not the best Vietnamese I've ever had-- but certainly the best I've ever had in Eugene. Portions are appropriately sized, and the prices are about right too. Not too cheap-- but what one ought to expect of quality food. The lady who runs the place was exceptionally friendly. My pho took longer than it should to arrive, so she treated me to a free banh mi sandwich, which I appreciated (and devoured)! I will be back and back and back to this place. read more

My go to Vietnamese restaurant! So so good. Couldn't say enough good things about this place. I usually get the tofu pho and tofu bon mi and honestly no where else even compares. The pho has such good flavor and all the ingredients as so fresh. The tofu isn't anything too exciting but still pretty solid and the amount of pho is also so much. The sandwich is also wonderful especially the soft bread dipped in the pho broth and the tofu is so good! Definitely recommend. read more

LOVE IT!! The banh mi is seriously delicious. I ate here for the first time today and I'm already counting the days until I can go back again. I got the chicken banh mi and it was perfect. Super flavorful and juicy chicken, excellent hoisin sauce, crisp vegetables. I'm in love. As an added bonus, their pho is freaking fantastic. The broth is really tasty and it comes with a huge pile of bean sprouts, jalapenos, and basil. The little girl sitting at the table next to us put it best when she said "I've been dreaming about this soup!" But the realy amazing part is the people who work here. Thanks to Beca C. for the location reference; you helped me decide if I was going to attempt to locate it on my lunch hour or not. I did! We ordered chicken pho ga and red hot pork bahn mi and took it "to go." The wait was about 10-15 minutes with a couple of orders ahead of me. We loved the allspice-y aroma and flavor of the pho. Vietnam Restaurant on West 11th provides sriracha and hoisin when you take it to go, while Bon Mi does not. The bahn mi was a tad disappointing because the sliced pork had a lot of gristly pieces, though the portion of meat was generous enough. This sandwich is not spicy despite its name. I would try another bahn mi again. The shop itself has indoor seating for 30 or so, and outside seating for 6. The staff works quickly and they smile a lot - nice! read more

I've been thinking about this place for a while, but I am never in the area for lunch. I popped in for a sandwich between 3-4pm and the place was empty. The woman working was friendly and she quickly pointed out the dishes on the menu that fell into my vegetarian preferences. I got a seaweed salad and a tofu ban mi to go. I ate the salad while I waited for the sandwich to be made. The salad was delicious but I wish it was a dollar cheaper. The sandwich was awesome. Tasty sauce and crisp veggies, nicely seasoned tofu on a perfect french baguette. I don't get to eat french bread much in Eugene so this was a nice treat. I was happy this place had some vegetarian offerings. I feel like I still got a great Bahn Mi experience even tho the protein was not traditional. Eating environment is pretty casual. Why did this have to open a block away from my office?! The beef bahn mi is delicious. The actual beef has terrific flavor, the pickled veggies are perfect texture and the acidic taste compliments the beef and aioli wonderfully. A little difficult to do $6.50 for just a sandwich very often though. The salad rolls with peanut sauce were pretty decent (especially for $4). We needed some new flavor in downtown Eugene. In big city Vietnamese places you can get bahn mi for ridiculously low prices. Little hole in the wall delis and counters sell them for $2-3, so you can laugh at the suckers lined up at McDonald's. My usual order is bahn mi and pho. The pho here is just okay, but I'll take it however I can because I love the dish that much. The sandwiches are the real attraction, your choice of protein on baguette with those yummy pickled veggies and jalapenos. You need one of these. Not quite the bargain of the dives, but a good deal for lunch. read more

I got the vegetarian vermicelli bowl with the vegan sauce. Yum, yum, yum! The normal vermicelli sauce is a fish sauce, but the vegan sauce they use for their Banh Mi was given to me on the side and after tasting it I quickly doused my bowl with it. The tofu was deliciously marinated in soy and lemongrass and I was sad when I had finished all the pieces. My husband got the vegetarian Banh Mi and gave it two thumbs up. I also took a bite and thought it was good, although I think my bowl was better. If we make it back here again, I think I will have to try their veggie pho, even if it's a hot day. read more

I was with my friends and we were craving some phõ. We all ordered the regular phõ with beef and it was pretty delicious but lacked some flavor. I'd give this place 4 or 4.5 stars. But I'll err on the side of rounding up because their lemongrass tofu bahn mi sandwich is JUST that good. The pickled carrots and vegetables are the best. And it's a lot of food for the price. The other vegetarian dishes are not that exciting. Vegetarian pho is bland, needs more herbs and spices in the broth. The "buns" are not what you would think - they are basically a big noodle salad, not steamed buns, and also a bit bland. We kind of stumbled upon this place. We were planning on Sushi around the corner, and it was a busy night. So we walked by and my brother in law had recommended we try it. We were delightfully surprised! The restaurant itself was kind of like a Deli, so it isn't a romantic place to eat. It was clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. I ordered the Chicken Sandwich which was incredible! Loaded with vegis and sauces that delighted my senses! My friend had the soup and sandwich combo. He loved the pho soup, but when he bit into the Spicy Pork sandwich he wish he had a full sandwich! We both would definitely go back, they do have jalapinos on the subs, so make sure to take some Prilosec before you go or you may get some heartburn. Delish! read more

Back in the Bay Area, I never have a craving for pho noodles. Every single whitey and azn I'm homies with either suggest and outnumber my lack of craving for it or bring me to have it anyway. Is it fair to come to a place called Bon Mi and not order a sandwich? Probably not. I'm still on the quest for a good pho joint in Eugene. The broth and meatballs are better than Pho The Good Times. But the noodles were too soggy and was clumped together when it was given to me. They shorted me on the meat. I ordered pho with only meatballs. Normally it's a 50 cent charge for extra meatballs. But I told them to leave out the other meats. They literally only gave me 3 half pieces of meatballs. That's like ordering a whole pizza with only 5 slices of pepperoni on it. How is this price fair? I paid $8.50 for this. This is the first pho place I've left still feeling hungry. And it's on Broadway so you have to pay for parking. I'm going to cry if the Vietnamese food doesn't get any better than this in Eugene. read more

Today was my first time there and I shall return. Many, many, many, many times. Rarely do you find a restaurant that serves such large portions of fantastic food for the price AND provides superior service. Soup doesn't cost a lot to make, so why not give people large servings? I simply have to go back to try all of the sammie there-if they are as good as the one I had today! The pickled veggies were the perfect addition to the spicy meat. The spicy noodles Pho is just that- and I'm so used to eating spicy food, that I inherently grabbed the schriracha and the chili paste for my table- only to not need them. Sure, some people might like a tougher bread for such a juicy sandwich, but the house bread really isn't bad at all! So to the people who only complaint was that: c'mon! You can't please 100% of the people 100% of the time. This place deserves 5 stars, hands down. Tip #1 : Get there before noon if you want a good seat. If you arrive after that its gonna be super packed. Not that sharing a table with strangers is bad at all. Tip #2: yeah, street parking sucks, but the parkade is a block away and the first hour is free, so who cares? Tip #3: Do NOT order a large bowl of Pho without three other people to share it with. I regret that I didn't run out fast enough after my last review, because I barely have any hair left. I knew better, but I found my car parked right next to the place and hadn't eaten breakfast. I mean, it's ten steps away. Of my growing list of problems with food and my personality: I went to a place with taco in the name and had a burrito, went to a place with burrito in the name and ordered tacos, went to a place in Hood River and ordered refried beans (wow), and now ordered pho in a place called Bahn Mi. The extremely young woman taking orders looked at me, stepped away, whispered to her friend with the palm of her hand toward me blocking her mouth like she was in a cartoon, then walked back to take my one word order: pho. I didn't say phuh because they didn't expect me to. I saw it on the menu, it's my favorite food, and I must order it when I see it. This is a Eugene curse. Only to have never tasted the delights of California pho in a mall that doesn't have any English on its signs. It took about 15 minutes, which is long for pho that is basically just reheated broth. Unfortunately, this gave me the time to soak in the rest of the place, again. The small tables were lined up 3 deep crowded together so that I couldn't sit anywhere but at the end of a row. There were two other men sitting at the far end of a row next to mine. One of them got up a few times and bumped into my chair. Each time I scooted my chair in more but he never said a word. I think they weren't my biggest fans, but if I were in a waking nightmare, the cast of people in this place was entirely composed of people that fill that bill save for the brave soul that sat at the end of my row. He ordered his usual soup and sandwich and I talked with him for a bit, mostly out of curiosity to see if anyone in the place was friendly at all, and he was, the old fellow bald man. I told him to enjoy his lunch as I left, and he lifted his hand in thanks as he mumbled, mouth full of pork. I describe poor Eugene service as how I imagine poor service in Hollywood: customers are just a speedbump on the way to stardom. Similarly to how settlers heading to the old west had their wagon break down in a field and started a life there, much of the wait staff in Eugene were on their way to Hollywood from Portland or Seattle, broke down, and had to take a job dealing with filth like me. This place typifies the worst this town has to offer. Poor, entitled, impolite service alongside pho that I could make better by nuking Kitchen Basics or Swanson beef stock off the shelf and tossing some noodles in it. Finally, bahn mi in downtown Eugene! Every time I go to Portland, I make time to get bahn mi. Had the red hot pork sandwich - generous mounds of pork (just the right mix of fat), perfectly seasoned and garnished with pickled veggies. The bread is great - it complements the filling without getting in the way. I agree with the other reviewers - the pho is just average. It's a big bowl but I've had better. I think the broth could be more flavorful. Add a couple shots of hoisin and it will help A LOT! I have a friend who LOVES their hoisin sauce (she'll actually put it in little to-go containers and take it home with her). They have a cooler with lots of pickled veggies - next time I'll grab the pickled garlic. If you go in the evening, there's a lot more space. read more

I did the combo meal (half soup and full sandwich), which is a great idea so that you can try a sandwich and soup. I got the beef pho and beef sandwich. The pho didn't taste right. Coming from the Bay Area it was actually really disappointing. Plus there was barely anything in the soup. Sure it was a half soup, but at most pho places half a soup is crazy big because pho is cheap to make. The sandwich was huge though, but also didn't taste like an authentic "banh mi". The pickled veggies were drenched! Made the whole sandwich soggy and no one likes a soggy sandwich. Sandwich was flavorful though, so it made up for the sad soup. I was going to give this place 3 stars because although it wasn't very good it was decent. But then I got food poisoning when I went home. How do I know it was from this place? I'm partial to the Bahn Mi sandwich with Hoisin chicken, hold the jalapeños. They have this awesome, fresh-baked, crusty french bread and load it up with tasty chicken, pickled cabbage and cucumbers, jalapeños if you like the spice, and a bunch of cilantro. It might not seem it at a glance but the balance of flavors is perfection. You first wonder if you'll be able to eat the whole thing....until you're looking down at the crumbs. At least a couple times a week, I get a craving for Bon Mi. The pork and beef sandwiches are so strangely good. Spicy, tangy, addictive. Great combination of flavors. Level it up with a little sriracha... not too much. The vermicelli is another great choice. Generous portions. A great lunch destination or convenient take-out. They are extremely quick and professional. Be warned though: the sandwiches, while delicious, are made with a fermented fish sauce that can be a little fragrant. Don't plan on bringing one back to a meeting or shared office area if your workmates are hypersensitive jerks. The cafeteria atmosphere isn't the greatest, either--it used to be a deli. But that really doesn't matter to me or my workmates who have also been hooked. This place is special. Oh, and they do have pho, and a vegetarian sandwich option. The spicy pork is exceptional and comes with pickled vegetables and an aioli spread. It's close to the authentic bon mi, but missing the real Vietnamese style sausage and pate. The pho is so so. Fast and delicious. The "Red Hot" Pork was delicious and spicy, not too spicy for spice enthusiasts, but it does sting a bit during the after-taste. The atmosphere is like a quick lunch place with many long tables that could seat six or more. Definitely glad we stopped here for lunch. read more

I have no idea why people gave this restaurant such a high comments. Once I went there and ordered PHO and what made me be disappointed was not just the soup which tasted like pot-washed water.
