This place rocks. I mean it really rocks. It has several locations and each one is as good as the next. This one, of course, is their location in Hanover. The first thing to consider about Boloco is your environment. The chain is one of the very few - I mean very, very few, eateries to garner a Green Restaurant Certificate from the Green Restaurant Association. No styrofoam anywhere. Recyclables everywhere. The second is your health, knowing that should you eat meat or vegetables for that matter, that all their meats are fed in a manner that is pesticide-free, antibiotic-free, and grass fed. Their chicken are free-range. Portlandia? Perhaps, but with a New England flavor. A good flavor. The third is your social conscience. The chain pays above the minimum wage. And the last one... the food. The first of many times, I came here and ordered a burrito from which I ate two full lunches. Huge, tasty, juicy, flavorful. The second time, I asked for the salad with white chicken meat toppings on their garden salad and they were more than generous in the serving. The salad was superb. To top it off - literally, since I am totally lactose intolerant and even a minute portion of milk turns my stomach, they have a superb soy berry shake with blueberries, strawberries and honey. I go here because the closest Chipotle is in another state. It's set up like knock-off Chipotle, with similar menu items. Although, it has a lot more options for extras to add to your burrito/bowl compared to Chipotle. There's a lot more sauces such as buffalo and ranch, and you can add squash, olives, feta, goat cheese... in that regard, it's really awesome because you can put all the things you like in there. However, the caveat to this is that none of the things really go together. You would think a burrito/Mexican inspired place would have more...salsa choosings. And do Mediterranean ingredients like hummus, feta, and olives really have any place in a burrito? Debatable. Also the sauces aren't Mexican themed at all. I shudder at the idea of putting ranch dressing and buffalo sauce in my burrito. What about some good old fashioned hot sauce? I ordered the steak bowl the last time I came, and the steak is a little salty, but good. Overall, you are getting a decently sized portion, and the food is not bad at all. But while Chipotle is not real Mexican food, Boloco wanders even further from that territory to something vaguely like a burrito but not really at all. read more

I love Boloco! This location is no exception. Fresh ingredients, fast service, friendly faces, and a chill atmosphere. That's what I think when I want Boloco. There's a variety of delicious toppings that Chipotle & Moe's don't carry so it's nice to switch it up in the Burrito game. I always get a vegan burrito with tofu, extra guac, rice, beans, and tons of other toppings. The chips and guac are delicious, but aren't they always? I fully intended to like Boloco and I tried, many times. But, the truth is, I just cant get there. Boloco is really the only burrito/faux-Mexican option in Hanover, so even if it were mildly good that would be a win. In reality, every time I have been here my burrito just ends up bland and tasteless. Last time I was there I added three salsas + jalapeno hot sauce just to get some flavor and it was still bland. I am convinced they do not season their beans, rice or meats. Fail. On top of the food, this place is always packed and loud. Our wait times are regularly 15-20 minutes, or more at a busy lunch time. I love Boloco. High quality ingredients / burritos for the price. Their burritos are not like a California burrito. They're more like a fusion burrito wrap. So if you are looking for an authentic burrito this is probably not the place for you. However, if you're willing to experiment this is a great place! I really like the Bangkok Thai burrito with carnitas. (Great carnitas here!) They also seem to have Indian inspired burritos this month. The tikka masala burrito with chicken is delicious! The other great thing about this place is that the burritos come in different sizes (aka normal portion sizes that won't turn you into a fatty boom batty like Chipotle). Four stars for a burrito place? I guess so considering it is the only game in town, and they have the best shake on the planet- The Jimmy Carter. Peanutbutter, Banana, and no-fat yogurt have never tasted soo good. I also enjoy the fact that thay have tofu as menu item for all their wraps. The burritos themselves are rather intersting because the incorporate Mexican, Japanese, Thai, and Mediterranean flavors. Quality has remained pretty steady since it was the wrap and changed their name to Boloco. It is a really yummy burrito. It looks like Boloco is expanding too because at Logan Airport I recently spotted "Curritto" which is a renamed Boloco that they must want to franchise out beyond the Mass/NH locations that are already exist out there. read more

I'm sorry to say, that the Hanover Boloco is doomed. We've seen their ups & downs. They suffer from an extreme lack of consistency. There was a time when I was so enthusiastic about efforts they made to improve that I gave them 4 stars. The last 2 times we went, my wife and I both had to throw out our salads - a Kale salad and a Summer salad. They were just soups made of vinegar with bits of soggy leafs floating on top. Totally inedible. The last time we went, the employees had apparently just had some sort of argument, and the women working were taking it out on the customers. They seemed angry at us, were unresponsive when I tried asking for dressing on the side & wouldn't make eye contact. I don't know what had happened - one employee was outside smoking a cigarette, but whatever had gone down, they were totally unprofessional, and the food they made was, as I said, inedible. read more

If you have ever had Chipotle, then this will seem familiar. I am one of those California transplants to West Lebanon. It is as close as you can get to a "real" burrito in the area. They have some very interesting options, including several vegetarian. I am dismayed by the reviews that complain about their burritos not having lettuce and tomato. The menu at Boloco was not created by Betty Crocker, nor was it influenced by Taco Bell. The only reason I am not giving Boloco 5 stars is the price. This place is obviously very similar to chipotle. They have some great options. Ex: dark meat chicken opposed to white meat chicken and some different styles of burritos, and salads. I left this place thinking that this would be my very first negative yelp. My family and I ran into Boloco to grab a quick meal. I must say, that it has been awhile since I've been so displeased with a restaurant, even a college town fast food place, like this. First off, the menu at the front is confusing and disorganized. I was surprised to see that when when I got to the register to order, the menu there appeared in a new confusing sequence. I ordered the thai chicken burrito for my husband and a chicken bowl for myself. The burrito came without beans or lettuce or tomato. I ordered the original size and it was half of the size of the burritos that we are used to. Then, my chicken bowl only came with lettuce, tomato, chicken and sour cream. It was more of a sad chicken salad than it was a burrito bowl. There was no rice, beans, or anything else in it! I ordered two small fountain sodas, and even these were flat! Then, to top it all off, the price for this "meal" was $18.97. Thanks, but no thanks. read more

So first, I have to kind of chuckle at anyone who calls this food "Mexican." Or even vaguely Mexican. What an insult to real Mexican food! But seriously, I've eaten at Boloco several times, and it's just okay for me. As some others have mentioned in their reviews, the food is pretty bland and without any real flavor, regardless of he different styles and toppings. I've had the summer, the Bangkok Thai, Cajun, and Classic in bowl and burrito forms, and with the exception of the Thai (which just tastes vaguely sweet) they all pretty much taste the same. Which... I consider to be really odd. I usually choose the steak option, as the chicken and carnitas are particularly flavorless and seem to be weird fatty cuts. But anyway, it's generally decent, filling food and the atmosphere is nice, though noisy at rush times. I've personally never had a problem with a flubbed order or long waiting times, and for that I'm glad. I do like their smoothies, though for some reason they seem to be especially sweet. (The nutella shake almost sickeningly so) Oh, and I totally agree with the door situation. It's most likely totally out of their control, but seriously, it makes for some seriously awkward entering. Yesterday I was looking for a bakery in Hanover (umpleby's) but didn't feel up to the walk (in the rain) and settled for Boloco. I ordered the Cajun burrito. The rice and beans were very plain and unexciting. The tortilla, dressing, and corn worked. I was hungry and the burrito filled me up. I am giving this location three stars because it's clean, the service is quick, and the ingredients are fresh. (Plus, it's not a bar & grille restaurant. There were a few families there when I went in at 5:00pm.) The value is there, too. My burrito and drink came to $6.25. While Picante (Inman Square, Cambridge, MA) burritos are better, I would go back to the Hanover Boloco (and try the Summer burrito or something similar) because it provides affordable food in a nice setting. Downgrading to one star. We gave this place a try again. Ordered chicken burritos, and paid extra for "white meat." One of my first bites, I got something strange, and spit it out before I chewed. It was some kind of dark-beef-colored mystery meat. Scary. Maybe chicken, but definitely not white meat. I'll try to upload a pic of the mystery meat, alongside some actual white chicken meat which I cooked myself. Needless to say we didn't eat the rest. Something gross is going on at this restaurant. Like other recent reviews have said, the food prep area is filthy. And their chips are stale. Yuck. Can't recommend. I personally believe the manager of this location should spend more time cleaning-up and managing the restaurant, and less time replying to online reviews. Update: Did you notice, the "manager" did it again. The user-ID "Buzz B" who replies to reviews isn't local, and doesn't even know what location I'm reviewing. The same user-ID also monitors and replies to Yelp reviews for the Burlington location 100 miles away, and Boston locations 125 miles away in the other direction! Total management failure. Popped in for a quick lunch and had a mixed experience. Once I got it, the food was delicious, but the ordering and delivery had problems. The menu board on the wall is not clear, making it difficult to understand the system, the options, and what decisions you have to make. After figuring out the burrito selection, I wanted a salad for a vegetable. But apparently that normally comes as a meal, not a side. It took a lot of explaining to convey that I wanted a burrito AND a salad, and no "protein" on the salad. The clerk repeated my order three times to confirm it! He got it right, I'm pleased to say, but the vibrating device never went off and finally some one wandered through the place calling my name and wondering why I had not responded to the (nonfunctioning) alert. Although my meal was tasty, it felt like a lot of work to get it. The ambiance is kind of Spartan and a bit dark--partly underground and lots of hard surfaces. I moved to California a couple years ago and whenever i'm back on the east coast I make sure to find my way into a boloco. Now don't get me wrong, there are countless places in southern California to find a great burrito but none are quite the same as boloco. Its the best burrito I've had on the east coast and can rival the ones I've had on the west coast. In terms of the ambiance its not the best but I like the feeling of walking down the narrow stone stairs, like its my secret special place that only I know about.
