I found it impossible to find this burrito bowl hidden lunch spot in Hanover, NH reviews until ... I found and entered the name of the restaurant in a web search. The burrito bowl-style menu is similar to a Chipotle offering but without the big franchise ownership attached. There are 3 locations, total, at time of reviewing. The prices are on the higher side but I believe it is because of the quality of the ingredients. The ingredients do taste absolutely fresh and it's a B Corp. So, they pay their employees $15 p/h, use bamboo bowls, naturally-raised meats and organic tofu and have certain causes which they support. Walking in, I immediately smelled a seasoning that I'm not used to smelling when I walk into a Mexican-based restaurant. I thought it might be cumin, but the chef said while they do use cumin, it's only in one recipe. I guess I smelled something like chili seasonings instead of the smell of roasted meats, so maybe they were preparing a sauce, or something. I really liked how friendly the employees were and the layout of the restaurant. The crew were helpful. The row of two booths is only for thin or small customers. I couldn't feel comfortable in one of those booths - no room - so we moved to the booths along the wall. I loved the artwork on the long wall! It was gorgeous and nice to know they support a local artist. I asked about what the BCorp aspect of the business supported and the employee told me she wasn't sure but to look on the back wall. I was too distracted by the gorgeous and colorful artwork to get back to the wall to eventually find out what the missions of the B-corp were. I also looked on the website for what their cause, but on a quick peruse, I couldn't find anything. Feel free to leave comments on this to help I and others, please. :) Things to make sure to try while you are here: the chocolate chip cookies, the mango salsa, the brown rice with cilantro and the nacho chips. The rice, especially, was good because it wasn't too brown and earthy. The guac had a vinegar flavor, which might be a regional New England style of prep here, since I've tasted that vinegar flavor in my guacamole before at another place. It's like those here up north like their guac tart with tang, but I'm not sure. I prefer just a slight lime taste. I tried the Teriyaki OG bowl. This is roasted broccoli, roasted carrots, caramelized onions, teriyaki sauce and rice. My advice: do get the teriyaki sauce on the side, or get it reduced in the amount of sauce they offer. The sauce was overpowering and had a less-than-homemade taste to it. The carrots are strongly and freshly marinated, which was a tasty surprise and would be good without swimming in the sauce. We got tofu added to our bowl and that was good. I did end up ordering another side of $3 rice after the fact to balance out the amount of sauce flavoring to it, however, instead of complaining about "my bowl was smothered in sauce." We also got the Summer Bowl with black beans, melted cheese, mango salsa and brown rice with cilantro. I don't recall any melted cheese flavor, but maybe it was the cojita. Loved the mango sauce: it tasted fresh and homemade. You can pick any protein. The grilled chicken was fine. I wonder what the carnitas taste like. Guessing the flavor is traditional. I also did not try the Magic Loco Sauce, but it sounds intriguing, for sure. Boloco bills itself as Modern Mexican, and since I don't know about what makes it modern, I wonder if it's basically the sauces and seasonings vs. the cooking preparation since the offering is basically a burrito and burrito bowl shop. I found a bottled green chili siracha on the table made in China, yet it tasted like a nice Thai sauce instead of a garlicky hot sauce. This hot sauce was not at all the flavor I was expecting because it was more velvety hot on the taste buds than crisp and spicy. (It's interesting that this sauce is made in China given that Siracha originated in Thailand.) So, if you want a Thai flavor at Boloco, and aren't going to dine at the nearby TukTuk Thai restaurant for the real deal, order the Boloco OG Bowl with no sauce and use a bit of the Green Siracha hot sauce on the table, to your liking. I loved that there was also a Tabasco brand Siracha - made stateside - on the table, as well. Didn't try it out of this trip. The nacho chips are delicious! They are not too course, sturdy and salty. Get the chocolate chip cookies because they are very good. Homemade and tasty. And they looked homemade, as well, which made them charming. Also, I got the bottled Coke vs. the Mexican bottle of Coke. Usually the bottles from Mexico are a bit more hyped. My bottled soda was energizing which is probably excellent for students. Finally, I loved that after eating this meal that I had energy, instead of feeling sluggish. This is credited to a campus restaurant which decides to offer a higher-end version of a Chipotle with B-Corp values. read more

This restaurant is like Chipotle but reasonably priced! I ordered a classic Mexican burrito. It was thick, massive, and included fresh ingredients. The hibiscus drink was refreshing and not overly sweet. It was a vibrant restaurant with lots of Dartmouth college students popping in and out. read more

I was excited to order but when I received my bowl, I was shocked how small it was. Mostly rice with tiny portion of protein. I think I had 1 leaf of cilantro. Mixed grilled veggies included 2 pieces of squash and a few onions that were lost amongst my rice. My friends salad looked more like a decoration you put in between a deli platter of sandwiches. Flavor was ok but did not standout much to my palate. Hard pass for a second order. read more

Nice little burrito spot in an area where there isn't really much to eat. Got the larger burrito vs the smaller burrito, ate half half, said half. Chicken was fresh, they are super fresh ingredients. Boloco is in the middle of Hanover, near Dartmouth. It's kind of a pseudo Chipotle, but I thought it was better. Choose between a burrito, bowl, or salad. Puck your protein, additions, and sauces. There were add-ins that Chipotle does not have like different roasted veggies and caramelized onions. Overall I thought the ingredients tasted fresher than your average Chipotle. Enjoyed my bowl. What a nice little hidden gem! For a quick lunch or probably delicious delivery dinner, Boloco has one of the most intriguing and varied "bowl" options menu I've ever seen. It was an experience just getting to go through the choices and pick what I wanted. I could easily make 4-5 different bowls to make my go-to's. If you're even a little bit interested in this type of fare, give this place a try. The ingredients were all fresh, well portioned, and it was provided expediently, even with the line reaching the door when I arrived. There is ample parking nearby, and you can find the place down a few steps. There are lots of neat drink choices, too. Very easy to be healthily filled here. Back in the days when Boloco offered blender-made Nutella milkshakes and berry blitz smoothies, I would walk in to the Hanover location and the manager knew me by name. Fast forward to 2023. The restaurant survived COVID but the smoothies are gone from the menu. New staff and periodic shifts in menu ingredients and flavors left us a bit confused but also curious about the new line of creations. I liked the Impossible option but that too has passed. Overall the restaurant offers affordable food with fresh ingredients prepared your favorite way, but customizable to mix things up. This review is from the point of view of an Appalachian Trail thru-hiker. The burritos are massive like two pounds! They are a perfect snack or first dinner. The set up is pretty much a healthier and fresher Chipotle with more options for veggies and toppings. The restaurant is located in the basement but is easy to find. Difficult for handicap access however. Must take stairs down to restaurant. Plenty of seating inside and the bathrooms are by the front door. Sodas are available in a cooler prior to paying. ordered a burrito from here about a week ago and usually it's pretty good.. sometimes there is hard rice in my burrito. the customer service is great. the scenery inside the store is great. last week though after not getting food from here for about 2-3 months I decided to go in and get lunch on my break and get a burrito and it turned out terrible. they got steak from the kitchen and added it to the line where the other meats were and let's say it was disgusting. It made my stomach hurt for 3-4 days and the meat was cold. I'm not sure what is happening but QUALITY OVER QUANTITY MATTERS! it's not about making everything quickly for customers to get out in a timely manner. If the food needs cooked then cook it and inform us that it needs a little time but giving us customers whatever that is there is not fair to us loyal customers. Next time I will take pictures every time I order because the consistency now is terrible. read more

I haven't been to Boloco in Hanover in a long time but I stopped by with a friend on a Saturday evening. During COVID-19, we ordered from a staff employee set up at a desk out on the street. We both ordered a small Elote Street Corn burrito bowl. While this burrito bowl had great flavor with the chipotle aioli and cotija cheese, paying $8.25 for the small size is absolutely ridiculous. When our food arrived, my friend and I were awestruck at how tiny the portion was. No way is this worth $8.25, and it makes me wonder how much you would receive with the "original" size for $9.75. I understand this is Hanover, where prices are exorbitant, but this was next level. We opted for water so we did have to go down into the restaurant to get cups, which does present with inevitable exposure, but we wore masks. The water cups were small and the tap water was lukewarm without any ice offered. This was disappointing. Boloco is not like I remember it in years past and with the high prices and quantity of the portions you receive, I don't see any reason to return in the future. read more

During my one night stay in Hanover I was craving something spicy and the only place that seemed to offer good food close to where I was staying was Boloco. I ordered a big bowl with veggies and the extra add-ons I also got chips with guacamole and salsa on the side the bowl was delicious With salsa that had perfect seasoning and the rice was very soft and well cooked. the only complaint is that some of the sauce or something from one of the Add ons had too much salt which made the entire bowl salty, so minus 1 star for that. The salsa and guacamole were also very good although I have to say that chipotle salsa is way better. Overall good food read more
