This was my first time ever in the state of Vermont, and the first restaurant I've ever tried up here. The pizza as amazing, the wings were too, I got my order in about 20 minutes and it all came out to about $23. I've eaten a lot of pizza over the past 50 years, in a lot of places. Earlier this month, while visiting Dartmouth, my 17-year-old son and I had dinner at C and S Pizza. He reported his calzone was excellent. We both agreed my meat lover's pizza, with jalapenos, was the best pizza either of us has ever had. The crust was perfect, so was the sauce, and the toppings were fantastic. The price was reasonable, too. My dinner salad was also really good. I have heard about C&S for years but this was my first time trying it. Located inconspicuously along Main Street in downtown WRJ, C&S is incredibly reminiscent of the since-closed Thetford Village Pizza in Thetford, VT. We ordered two calzones: one with sausage, feta, and pineapple, and one that was just cheese. Each came with a cup of marinara sauce. The savory sausage mixed with the sweet pineapple and the salty feta cheese made for a perfect combination. The plain cheese calzone this wonderful dipped in the marinara sauce. We ordered a Greek salad as well which had tasty olives and feta. This was a great introduction to C&S and I know it will be the first of many visits. read more

Onion rings were decently fried from frozen- honestly the highlight of the meal. The pizza was only ok- my teen boy said he wouldn't eat the leftovers. I've never seen him turn pizza down before. Stopped in after a long day on my motorcycle enjoying all of Vermont's beauty. My sandwich was good, but the service was horrible. I got the feeling that they would rather be doing anything other than helping me. When it was my turn at the counter I wasn't asked, "How can I help you?" I got, "Ya". This is a neat, authentic old school pizza place that I really wanted to like. The guy who took my order, seemed like he may have been the owner, let me grab a drink and didn't charge me until I got my food. He was very nice and trusting, which is refreshing! However the calzone that I had wasn't so good. It seemed well made and had lots of ingredients and cheese inside, was cooked well and wasn't greasy. It was just so bland. I was in White River Junction, Vermont for several days for business and I came here for lunch and dinner on two separate occasions. The food was so good and I love pizza, so it was an easy choice to go back. I would have eaten here more if there weren't so many other restaurants to try out in the area. On my first visit, for dinner, I was super hungry and went with a small pizza with sausage and mushrooms and a side of cheese sticks. The pizza was very fresh and piping hot, so I started on the cheese sticks first. They were good and served with marinara sauce. The pizza was simply amazing: the crust and sauce was so good and the toppings were really delicious. On my next visit, for lunch, I asked the guy if I should try a calzone or a grinder, and he said both are really good, but maybe try the calzone, so I went with that. I had one with sausage and mushrooms (my two favorite ingredients). Again, it was served hot and fresh and was super tasty with the marinara sauce on the side for dipping. The place feels a little quirky and the front door is really loud every time someone comes in and out, but what really matters is the good service and excellent food that I had. And the prices seemed reasonable to me for what I got. If I have to come back here, I will definitely visit C&S Pizza again. read more

I'm convinced the reason this place is rated so highly is because so many of the alternatives in the Upper Valley are worse and/or people here don't know what good pizza tastes like. The staff is friendly and the prices are great - and YES it equals or beats all the others in the area (C&A, Lui Lui, Cantore's, Domino's, Village Pizza, Ziggy's, Pizza Chef) - but that's not saying much. I've heard the calzones are better, but a straight up pizza is going to have soggy crust (except the edges) due to the phenomenal amount of grease. Looking at the reviews and ratings, I had higher expectations for this place. I thought the entire meal was plain and lacking in flavor. My boyfriend got the wings, which surprisingly didn't have sauce on it; he said they were OK and were too plain for him. He also ordered the BBQ chicken pizza, which was plain, but the best part of all our meals. I had the cheese sticks, which were mozzarella sticks. They weren't the best and were quite average; slightly chewy and the marinara was acidic. I also got a cheese calzone with sausage, onion, and peppers. Basically, the peppers and onions were raw and the sausage tasted like pure fennel; not a great combo. I've been a customer of C&S for nearly 20 years. They are consistently the best place locally for Greek style pizza. Hearty crust, lots of toppings, a little greasy but never excessively so.
