Found this place after apple picking with some friends at Larriland Farms. We were looking for a close place to have lunch and we found Bolder on Yelp. We had a group of 6. It took about 10 minutes for them to set up the table for us. We did not have a reservation but arrived here about 12:30 on a Sunday, which wasn't too crowded. As for the food, I had their Bison Burger, medium rare, which is recommended in the menu. Even if it wasn't, that's the way I take my burgers. It comes with chips, but I opted for the sweet potato fries, which complimented the burger pretty well. The bison was super juicy and delicious! One of the best bison burgers, I've had so far. I would definitely get it again the next time I come here. I also had their lemonade mule, which wasn't bad, tasted more vodka than the lemonade. It took more than an hour to be served our food. The food was good but my shrimp salad sandwich only had 9 small shrimp like 26-30 count too small for the price. The burger that was ordered was excellent and so were the sweet potato fry's were too. read more

The good the bad and the ugly . The Good , food 5 stars , farm to table style , decent portions . The bad ,not too bad, but with some training could be 5 stars . Servers, must be new or never trained ,very polite and nice which almost made up for waiting 25 min for water and never refilled when empty . No salad forks . After clearing silverware and serving deserts had to wait for silverware . Our first bottle of wine the young server was very awkward trying to open the wine ,then after a struggle ,broke the cork in half . Then after looking as though would spill on my guests , asked if it be ok to open at the bar and we gladly responded yes . The second bottle later on , same awkward opening but managed to not break the cork . The Ugly , all the servers attire including the hostess . All wearing Hoodies with college logos on the front . I've seen better attire at dive bars and carry out pizza joints . Don't ruin a Resturant with nice ambience and decent food with a staff that looks like they literally left John Belushis frat house . I was embarrassed taking my first time guests who have never been to this establishment . Most clients were dressed at least smart casual to formal . It just ruined the mood seeing the sloppy staff. The help was all very polite and friendly . But with a little training , keeping the drinks full, how to open a bottle, serve forks before food and lastly, institute at least a smart casual dress code for the servers and hostess . When pizza hut and McDonalds servers are better dressed than an establishment with 30.00 appetizers, I just can't take new clients here again . Hopefully this will change but trying to make a good impression on new clients being served by a frat party is a no go . Hopefully they will addressee this ,I know help is hard to find ,but breakdown a buy a decent shirt for the staff if they don't have one. Or just give the kids a life lesson and have them dress for success . I've been coming here since the Drover days when the staff wore black pants and white shirts ,the pre Covid Bolder was fine too , it's been a year (Covid delay ) and the staff now looks like they are still living the wake up and wear what you want to work at home mentality . Give them a try, hopefully they will read this and give you a nice dinning experience with some aura or it could be like being served by Aunt Bettys college kids just back from lacrosse practice. read more

I went on Wed 10/4/23 with my boyfriend. We ordered the mussels which came out pretty fast, the plate was not warm and the mussels were very tiny. We then ordered the crab cakes which came out semi warm, maybe 3 very small amount of crab meat. NO taste @ all. He ordered the noodles red sauce and seafood. Again no flavor @ all . We were very disappointed. The food just seemed like it was put in the microwave and brought out. Did not taste fresh @ all. Will not go again. read more

Had a family event, a birthday party for my father-in-law. I had a semi-private room which worked out wonderful. Food was exquisite especially the asparagus fries, Rockfish bites and Cornbread crusted chicken. Service was solid. For instance we had a group of 10 and they sent out remembers 30 mins prior, then had a table waiting for us when we arrived. Waitress looked after us efficiently. The ambiance included a fireplace, wine racks and wine barrels on the wall which made for a rustic atmosphere. There is also a deck for outside eating available. Located in rural Lisbon, definitely worth the drive for a special evening out. read more

Enjoyable and relaxing al fresco setting. Food is good, sometimes really good ie. Steamed Clams O'brien appetizer. I also liked the Shrimp Bolder starter. Their salads are always super fresh and crisp paired with homemade dressings. So I've been dying to come here ever since I read about bolder, and they definitely met expectations! I will for sure be going back. I had been wanting to try the Cajun Mac n Cheese, but I noticed before I went they had taken it off the menu. I made a comment on a post and they said they'd be happy to make it for me when I came in. They stayed true to their word! Service was exceptional. They were quick and our waitress really knew her stuff when it came to the menu. I got the Mai Thai (funny description: rum x3, fruit juices, this and that, #patiofun) and it was very good. Then the calamari, off the specials menu, also delicious. Then my Cajun Mac n Cheese. The waitress warned me it was spicy but it was waaaaaaay spicer than I had envisioned, but DELICIOUS. I'm a wimp so I asked if they had a glass of milk to calm down the spice, expecting them to say no, but they did! And they were happy to give it to me without making me feel judged. I was too full for dessert. I did see the chef/owner walking around and talking to people. She did not stop at our table but she was probably busy being the Chef so I am not going to hold that against her. Overall, a very cute place that I will be going back to. I ordered dinner for myself and my family a few weeks ago. I'm 7 months pregnant and when you crave something you have to have it. I picked up my order and drove home. 20 minutes from the restaurant and realized they forgot my Brussel sprouts with that yummy Sriracha sauce. I was so bummed. I called them to let them know and to have it taken off my bill. The owner I believe answered and told me she would come bring them to me. I told her that was not necessary at all. I was just hoping for credit or for them to be taken off my bill. She assured me she'd be happy to bring them to me. 20 minutes later she was there with my Brussel sprouts. They were warm and just as delicious as always. Excellent service and excellent food. I can't wait to go get a blackberry margarita after I have this baby!! read more

We had been to bolder many times and always enjoyed it. Last night I made a reservation for me and my elderly parents. We were early 6:20. We were seated within 5 minutes. And then we waited. Waited for someone to acknowledge us or get drink orders. Anything! By 7:00 I went to find someone to help. It took another full 5 minutes for manager to come out. She was semi apologetic and claimed she would wait on us herself. My dad was done at this point so we left. Since we didn't eat, weren't offered any kind of comps or sincere apologies just excuses one star is least I can give. It was our first time at Bolder. The location and the outdoor patio with the heaters are great. We ordered a lot of appetizers, but the only decent one was mussels. Crispy Brussels sprouts were not crispy as they were fried as a whole instead of disassembled. Crib dip tasted like regular warm cream cheese. I ordered pork osso bucco and it was terrible - most likely it was cooked way in advance and reheated before serving. It was dry and chewy. I told the waiter about it and she offered to order something else instead. Ordered the Crab cake which was ok, but $30.00 for the small single crab cake? When waitress brought the check she pointed that they didn't charge for osso bucco as a favor - never mind that I sent it all back. So I told her that the good restaurant would compensate the customer for the mess if they want them to return. In reply to my comment the manager came to our table and pretty much told us that she doesn't care if we come back or not. read more

Bolder restaurant is a gem! The food, atmosphere, staff and everything about this place is a 5+. It is well worth the drive from wherever you may live. Yesterday, I was in Sykesville at a Lavender Fields Open House and we were very hungry. Instead of eating in the area or heading back to our home in Clarksville, we went out of our way to go to Bolder to early din er as this place does not disappoint. . Once again we had a great experience - from the time I called the restaurant to ask the hostess, Sarah, how crowded it was outside to check availability to ensure an outside table due to the beautiful weather. Then once we arrived at Bolder, we were greeted by Sarah, a very warm, inviting and professional hostess, who seated us at the perfect location on the lovely outside patio. We took our time looking over the vast menu of delicious-looking food options. Jonathan, our waiter, went above & beyond to help us make our drink & food selections and we had an amazing experience. As I am very picky and asked Jonathan to modify my orange crush wirh tequila instead of vodka and to make 1/2 orange & 1/2 grapefruit, he didn't hesitate. He helped my friend pick out the perfect drink, refreshing g blackberry margarita. They were delicious & refreshing. I ordered the seafood pasta dish and my friend ordered the scallops wrapped in bacon. These dishes were better than anything that I could have made and I am a good cook. The asparagus my friend had k. The side was delicious as well as my side salad. Everything was delicious and I had such a great experience once again. A group of us ladies took our dear friend here to celebrate her 60th birthday as this is our favorite go to place that is consistently amazing in every way. Highly recommend this restaurant to my friends and family and anyone wanting a great dining experience in every way! I want to give a special "shoutout" to the awesome waiter, Jonathan. He waited on us last night as well as our group party last month to celebrate our dear girlfriend's milestone birthday. Jonathan went above and beyond to make our experience memorable. My boyfriend and I came here on Friday night for the first time. I was impressed by the décor first off. I love the big modern fireplace in the dining area, it gives it more of an intimate atmosphere. The restaurant was definitely busy as most Friday nights are. We were seated pretty quickly and greeted by our waiter about 10 minutes later who took our drinks. Our drink did not arrive for maybe 15 minutes. A little lengthier than I'd like but I can forgive that. All of the menu items looked yummy. We decided to go with the Brussel sprouts appetizer, the London broil sandwich and the knobb creek burger. Unfortunately we never got our Brussel sprouts and did not know this until we saw our entrees coming out without getting the sprouts first. At that point we were pretty hungry so we just ate our meals and did not mention the mistake. That fact aside, the burger and sandwich were both tasty. The meat was very juicy and good seasoning on both. I would come back here again for another try. We have been coming to Bolder for dinner for years and decided to try it out for their Sunday brunch. Big disappointment!! We should have known since the place was practically empty. My wife had a roach in her crab soup! At first, she thought it was just a crab shell, but no, it was a roach. Good thing she spit it out. Manager never came over and they only took off the price of one of the two soups we ordered. I'm sure the entire vat of soup was infected with roaches. The rest of the food was average at best. The French toast was the only thing above average. Will not be going back. read more

It's been a while since we've eaten here and I must say - things have changed and not for the better. We had a party of 5, celebrating birthdays and personal accomplishments. Though we never really got a chance to focus on enjoying those things, because our entire eating experience was inundated with FLIES. We were sat in the far corner of the restaurant and were swatting flies away as if we were eating outside...next to a cow pasture! Seriously, at one point we counted 5 flies had landed on our table at the same time. A party of three came in shortly after we were seated and were sat at the booth next to us. The flies harassed them so badly, they requested a new table. We then asked our waiter if we could move as well, and to his credit he did check. However, they were unable to accommodate moving us. The worst part is that we had to complain - as if the staff were blind to the ridiculousness of our experience (I was swatting flies left and right, my mother was constantly waving her hands over her food to keep flies from landing on it!!) When they didn't move us, my father had to then ask if they would show us consideration on the bill because of our experience. The waiter was hesitant, noting he "can't promise anything" but would ask. I mean cmon people - that's not how customer service works...your server needs to be your advocate! But, again to his credit, he was able to get our appetizers comped, which we appreciated. But if they hadn't - I guarantee my parents would never return (and they live right down the street and have frequented Bolder since moving in). On top of the fly issue, the food was painfully inconsistent. Out of our 5 meals, 2 were flavorless (cornbread chicken with fried green tomatoes and roasted zucchini with risotto and shrimp) - I mean not an ounce of seasoning. My moms salmon and risotto however was beautifully cooked and well seasoned. My wife got the Eggsplosion burger and loved it! She said the char and seasoning were perfect. My grandmother got crab cakes and said they were "fine." So overall - very disappointed. Some things you can control. Some you can't. So, I'm not taking points away for them being busy. Or being seated near a bunch of loud children who couldn't stay in their seats, so every other minute there was a child walking within two inches of my table. Or the flies that swarmed the outdoors seating. But when I order a Chicken muffuletta sandwich I expect it to at least be what is on the menu. For example, a muffuletta is defined by the olive spread which the menu clearly states is a part of the sandwich. Great! I love olives. I love muffulettas. This should be tasty. However, Bolder seemingly doesn't know the difference between an olive spread and pico de gallo. So I had a muffuletta with SALSA on top of it. It was unpleasant. Chicken, salami, and...SALSA. By the the I had taken a few bites I was pretty much done with this place. I just wanted to get out before one the of the children running around spilled my drink, or one of the servers sprinting two inches behind my chair dropped a plate of food on me. I don't live close enough to ever find myself back here, so it won't be an issue again. read more

Local bar with small outside area, inside is cramped and the bar is small. Drinks are just okay. Bartender is not friendly and workers seem more interested on socializing behind the bar than making patrons feel welcome. Tried this place a couples but will not go back. Bolder is a wonderful addition to the Woodbine/Western HoCo area. The food is super delicious! My personal favorite dishes here are the spring salad and the fire grilled stuffed zucchini. The spring salad comes with a goat cheese croutons and the zucchini is stuffed with risotto. I also really enjoy the drinks here, especially the purple rain martini. It's a martini made with blueberry lemonade and it is very refreshing. The inside is moderately sized and can fit a few big parties at once. There is a large outdoor eating area for when the weather is nice. I really enjoy eating here. Getting dinner at Bolder is a must if you're visiting the area! read more

First of all, I've been here many times and it's a cute little place with a quaint ambiance but tight seating arrangements so it's very loud and always busy. We have had great food in the past but last night was terrible. Service was very slow starting with drinks and never got better. We had the burgers, steak medallions, and veggie burger. Both both came out dry and overcooked and ordered med rare, steak was thinly sliced smothered in cold gravy, wrong veggie came with steak and couldn't find server so never was resolved, special chips were stale and cold, choc decadence was hard as a rock and raspberry sauce was like water and inedible. Stoped by this great place with three friends for an early dinner after spending the day at the Maryland Sheep and Wool festival held at the Howard County fairgrounds. We did not have a reservation but they seated us quickly even on Cinco de Mayo! We all enjoyed a Mexican Mule that was perfect! Three of us had the shrimp fajitas special. The fourth friend had the sea bass. The food was plated beautifully and was just as delicious. The wait staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. By the time we were finished our meal the restaurant was packed. We will be back the next time we're in the area and we'll make a reservation! read more

My wife and I visited for the first time this afternoon. what a gem! We shared a white bean chili then Linda has a Cobb salad while I had the chicken. I also brought home a Jaeger Schnitzel. We shared a pumpkin ice cream desert. The wait staff was attentive and enhanced the over all experience. All the food was first class. Portions were large and we took home portions of our meal. My family and I came here about 3 weeks ago (my third time since the new owner and concept). This visit was after brunch and before dinner so about 3 pm. I am really disappointed in this dinner because I was with my husband and parents and could not complain as I would have liked to because it makes my aging father upset. The first issue? They didn't have our reservation even though we called on our way there. They looked at us like we were aliens and proceeded to ask all other employees if they had taken our reservation, this made us feel very uncomfortable. Just seat us already??? Who cares who talked with us. Second the restaurant was a disaster. Food pieces covering the floor tables and chairs in disarray, unbussed tables. And many of the employees were just hanging around and having a social hour. It was clear who the manager was a lady maybe in her 50's I've seen her there before. After we were seated at a table that was surrounded by food on the table and dirty menus. I unrolled my silverware and there was food on the silverware. There was also old food on my b n b plate. I asked on the side for the waitress to please bring clean silverware, the second roll was also dirty. (Shaking my head, I come from a background of hotel and restaurant management- there was so much wrong with this picture). If it were only my husband and I we would have left. The prices at this place are too high to be seated in such filth. My first entree came out I forget what it was but it had collard greens in the grits. It looked like vomit on a plate at this point my stomach was turned so upside down I didn't know what to do. I asked for what my father had which was a better entree cornbread crusted something. That was better. The only other thing that gave this place even two stars was the good Bloody Mary I got from the bar. The manager on duty looked clueless. She was rolling silverware and setting up maybe two tables while we were there when it looked like a tornado had gone through the place! I was praying she would corral her employees and have them start cleaning their sections which they never did. The ambiance was sort of nice but the dirtiness of the place was disgusting. Also the floors in the bathroom were so sticky I was afraid I would walk out of my shoes. My final observation- the owners of this place have a nice new set up, but are destroying their work by hiring untrained and uncaring employees. I almost went up to the manager and asked her what she was doing and if she could see the blatant disaster in front of her? Hiring trained people who are not there for social hour would be a big improvement too. The dishwasher and or checking of flatware is non existent. My stomach still turns thinking about that lunch. I will NEVER go back. Sorry guys you could have had some pretty loyal repeat customers. And we tip nicely, and give credit where credit is due. read more

The staff is friendly and inviting and during nice weather their patio is a great place to relax. Parking especially on busy weekends can be challenging as their lot is rather small and a dead end making turning around difficult. We dined at Bolder for the 1st time last night (Friday). The place was full so I recommend getting reservations. We really liked the vibe and decor inside and out. Since it was a nice evening we dined alfresco. Once the sun went down it got a little chilly, but the wait staff turned on some patio heaters which made it really nice. The food: We had the black and white tuna and I tried a seafood special (Broken Seas fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp, and bits of crab and scallops). We both really liked our dishes, but I thought the seafood disk was a little skimpy with the seafood, I think their prime rib is a good seller, I thought I heard a waitress say they had run out (and that was at 7:00 pm)., The wait staff were all very friendly and helpful.
