We had dinner at Bold Monk Brewing Company on Tuesday. The beer and food were good, and so were the service and atmosphere. This is a Belgian-inspired brewery, restaurant, bookstore, and beer garden all under one roof. Bold Monk is located in the Upper Westside of Atlanta, near Chattahoochee Food Works and Topgolf Atlanta Midtown. There's plenty of free parking around the building and on the street (Ellsworth Industrial Blvd NW). I like the space here because there are various spaces inside and "outside" to spread out and hang out. I put "outside" in quotes because their patio is fully covered and enclosed -- good for bad weather. I had the Presence Pilsner (lager, 4.8%, 16 oz, $7). It was cold, crisp, and refreshing. I recommend it. The menu describes it as offering a "soft bready malt, delicate herbal and floral hop notes, and clean, dry finish." For dinner, I had the Salmon Dip ($16) to start and the Steak + Frites (market price) as my main. The Salmon Dip is made with house-cured salmon and tarragon aioli, and comes with thin toast triangles. The Steak + Frites is "chef's cut" (not sure which, didn't ask) and comes with Bearnaise, arugula, and Belgian frites (fries). The Bearnaise went great with both the steak and the fries. Bold Monk is known for their Belgian Frites, "The Original French Fry," which comes with a variety of sauces and in a few different styles. They also offer a variety of mussels and pizza. My buddy had one of the pizzas, "the 1838," I believe, which comes with different mushrooms, mozzarella, and house-made truffle ricotta. He seemed to enjoy it. The pizzas - the 1836, the 1899, the 1838, the 1850, and the 1862 - are all named after years that monasteries opened in Europe. I ordered my steak medium rare and it came out just right. The quality of the cut was average/about what you'd expect for budget-friendly steak frites (it's no Bar Blanc in terms of cut quality). But still, that and the Salmon Dip were tasty and satisfying enough. Good service from both our server and the host/manager, who made sure my friend did not leave his jacket behind. I tried two different beer flights and a cider but couldn't find one that I liked. The food did not disappoint though. I ordered the wings with a sticky spicy cayenne sauce. Then a chorizo pizza fresh and crispy along with the ham and cheese. All delicious with a good portion size. I walked around to see the bookstore and event areas. The space is a beautiful venue with a good amount of parking space. If you don't have a venue sized party you can still bring your friends they have room. Buy cocktails instead of beer or something bottled that you know. Then eat the delicious food and be catered to by a great waiter. You won't be disappointed. read more

Okay okay I had to come back here because I wanted chill vibes to watch football. They were surprisingly not very busy Sunday afternoon and easily snagged two seats at the bar where football was playing. We were greeted right away by the bartender and offered us menus. I'm not a drinker so opted for a mocktail, Prepare Yourself - I was wearing trying it because it has ginger beer AND matcha but it was refreshing! For food, my husband and I shared the lamb burger, salmon dip, wings and Brussel sprouts. The lamb burger was cooked medium and juicy and served with fries with some delicious sauce. The salmon dip was smoky and creamy and serve with toast. The wings I did not get to try but hubby said was sweet and spicy. My all time favorite here are the brussel sprouts - I don't know what they do with them but they are so good! During this time, I got to venture their second floor where they have a book store, another bar and beer garden. This was my first visit to Bold Monk Brewing, and I look forward to returning. I attended a group outing here. We were seated in a private area, and were well cared for by two attentive servers who ensured our needs were met throughout the meal. We enjoyed a variety of drinks and dishes, served promptly, including chicken and waffles, the bold breakfast plates, salads, and other selections. I personally ordered the Blue Winged Angel cocktail and the grilled chicken kale salad, both of which I really enjoyed. My salad was a nice portion, which was enough for two people. To conclude our visit, we received a complimentary dessert from Chef Tony, who, along with owner Alan LeBlanc, graciously visited with us during our time there. The Virtue of Patience: A Flanders Red Ale aged in American White Oak Foeders blended with a small portion of the previous batch for 12 months. My friend and I were in the area to grab food elsewhere but their wait was much longer than what our stomachs would allow. Instead we tried this place as she had been before. We were able to snag seats at their large bar right away. We shared their Monk burger and lamb burger over an old fashion and margarita. Both burgers were tasty in their own ways but the lamb burger had more twang to it. The drinks were well made but I did find my old fashion to be sweeter than I like. Bloody Mary is fantastic and was nervous about their brunch menu but was pleasantly surprised. The breakfast burrito is large so may need to split it. They had corn in it which was absolutely delightful. Salmon toast one of the eggs was fully overcooked. The salmon wasn't like lox it was more cooked and that is not what you expect for Benedict. Once you are inside, feel free to peruse the merchandise near the host stand. Bold Monk is a massive venue, with two floors of full food/beverage service, a bookstore, and a beer garden as well. It is beautifully decorated, and even has a private room for events overlooking the distillery. Service Service was prompt, courteous, and efficient. We had service on both levels since we played trivia after dinner, and all of the staff were wonderful. Food and Beverages I enjoyed the Caesar salad (I asked for extra dressing), pizza (the crust was perfect), as well as the waffle with ice cream. Everything was delicious! The arlo-basque style cider was good as well, it's more sour than sweet but the flavors balance nicely. I'm not a beer drinker but they do have a wide variety of wine, ciders, and cocktails as well. My husband and I love this place. We visit the ATL area 2 or 3 times a year and always try to make a visit to Bond Monk. The ambiance/vibes are solid. The place in general is interesting and huge! This visit we sat at the bar and Patrice took great care of us. Our fave appetizer are the wings with the delicious honey chile sauce. This time we decided to split the lamb burger (which I've had before) and it did not disappoint. I also love the additional sauces you can add to dip with your fries. I cannot say enough great things about Bold Monk. From the beer to the food to the service to the atmosphere- this truly is a must visit place. It's beautiful decor creates an upscale feeling space but with a casual, fun vibe. You absolutely must do yourself a favor and take a walk around and take it all in. The service was excellent. Finding the place is not a straight line but it was well signed. The parking lot was full at 11:30 am on a Saturday which I took as a good omen and I was not wrong. I was given a table by the window and both lunch and brunch menus. My server was great, checked on me often enough and was able to describe and explain all the unfamiliar dishes. I opted for the berry waffle with a side of bacon and the Abbey flight of beers. Everything was delivered speedily and with beautiful presentation. First I tasted all four beers, and compared them to each other. Then I ate my fantastic waffle (actually a stack of two) that was yeasty, crispy, sugary, and light. Covered with whipped cream, blueberries, sliced strawberries, and dusted with powdered sugar. Yum! The bacon also delighted me from the "asterisk" arrangement to the warm maple-y flavor mixed with salty, meaty pork. The dining room was busy during my visit but I could hear the music faintly over the sound of conversation. I did not go up to the bookstore above because there was an event happening, and I didn't poke around outside much because it was cold. I've been here twice now. And this place is so much fun. It takes a minute to figure out where to go (I have bad sense of direction) but I genuinely enjoy going here for an after work cocktail. The drinks have great variety. Even some decent nonalcoholic choices. The staff are very familiar with their wine selection and have great knowledge of the menu. Due to the hours I attend, it's always a little busy. But I really do suggest trying this place out if you're in the area. Bold Monk...where do I even begin? First off, THEY HAVE COUCHES UPSTAIRS. I absolutely LOVE comfortable couches, and the Abbey at Bold Monk made me feel right at home. I started off with the Indominus Quadrupedal which was a very smooth and rich tasting Belgian Styled Quadrupedal Ale. It had notes of caramel, cherries, chocolates, and cigarette cartons/raisins, so delicious flavors. Next I ordered the Provincial Muscles which were really good, the outer shells were nice and crunchy and the inside was soft and chewy while still melting in your mouth. I was tempted to ask the employees taking dishes walking by if I could snag some of the shells other costumers wasted, but I wanted to save room for my next course. I went to the bartender and Next I ordered an espresso martini because I Needed some caffeine. It felt very creamy in my mouth as I sipped it on the couch. So I next ordered the Lamb Burger in between Rare and Well Done. The meat temperature was absolutely perfect, just right. My Goodness I am Salivating just thinking about It! Yes! I must absolutely recommend all to Visit, but PLEASE save a couch for me, I DON'T share, haha! I have no complaints on my behalf. A classy brewery with great food and an extensive beer list. The menu has a lot of tasty sounding dishes so my wife and I split a Caesar salad and the brisket poutine. Really liked the touch of sun dried tomatoes in the salad and the poutine was outstanding. The brisket tasted a lot like pot roast on a bed of fries with cheese and gravy. So I ended up at Bold Monk after a nearby brewery was closed for a private event. It worked out in my favor as this was brewery visit #293 and I do love Belgian beers. Nice big place in a converted warehouse or something, which wasn't very busy at 5:30 on Friday evening but started to pick up. Greg at the bar was very helpful and got the conversation started commenting on my BJJ shirt. So of course we talked BJJ for a few minutes before moving on to beer. He and everyone I interacted with was very friendly. Walk on Water witbier Discipline Dubbel had a great flavor, and even though SWPFTD generally is not a fan of Belgians (Good thing I'm a Polak!) I think she would have liked this one. The Way Tripel was really good. Indominus Quad was probably my favorite. A great example of a quad with nothing out of line. I was a little hungry so I got an order of four bitterballen. These were great. The beet sabayon really set off the brisket. BMB is cool. The beers were really good, and the food was as well. I picked up a shirt and will stop back in when I make it back to town. Probably my favorite brewery in Atl-but take that with a grain of salt as I'm not a beer girl. I like it because it feels less like a brewery and more like a restaurant. Full bar (not just beer) the cocktail are always delicious and cute (albeit a bit small normally fair warning) Food has always been good and constant for us. I like the chicken sandwich. Lots of spaces for setting. Bit the beer garden is a warm weather favorite. We had my husbands birthday party there a few years ago and it was a great space for that. I was just hating on Chattahoochee Food Works in a Yelp review recently but maybe it was the direct juxtaposition (does that even make grammatical or literal sense) that made Bold Monk Brewing seem that much better than it really is? Ok this is what I get for typing up a review in the middle of the night. But SERIOUSLY to this day, my friend and I rave over the 1850 Brussels & bacon pizza. DON'T KNOCK IT UNTIL YOU TRY IT - it was mind blowing. We also ordered some Belgian frites to munch on - and I like the different dipping sauces - the curry is delish! I believe we also ordered the Smoked Tomato... but don't quote me on that one. I ordered a double IPA - the Attainment, and it was deliciously juicy, and thanks to the high gravity, not overly hoppy at the same time. I also tried the Shared Spirit IPA, which was pretty good too, but my favorite was still the DIPA. We didn't get to check out what was going on inside since I brought the pup - however, the outdoor seating is great for the puppers and I liked how it was secluded and a small hike from the actual restaurant. A bookstore in a brewery?! Be still my heart. There's also a beer garden outside. I went this summer and a woman was having her bridal shower there! They decked it out with buttoned up servers, hydregnas everywhere and catered items! I didn't take pictures out of respect. Even more this place seems mature or a better beer spot, but dogs and kids are welcome. It's huge and I love all the eccentricities of the different spaces. Liked my food too.
