If you're looking for Oliver Peoples eyeglass frames, this is THE place in the Boise area to find a top notch selection of them in many styles, sizes and colors as well as an impressive array of quality frames in other brands. Add in skilled opticial specialists, thanks to both Amy and Wylie, and their knowledge in size, style and fit, this is as easy as eyeglass shopping gets once you are in the door. (I'll come back to that.) SELECTION & SERVICE: My husband has been on the hunt for an additional pair of sunglasses and he found Ray Bans here that were just what he had in mind but wanted them in polarized lenses. Amy ordered them and they were in within two weeks time. I knew what OP frames I was looking for and while they had them in store, not in the smaller sizes I needed and she ordered those as well, in addition to a couple of others I wanted to consider. Wylie was particularly helpful in offering expert feedback on how the frames fit once the ordered items arrived. It is early days; I haven't had the lenses made yet but I anticipate a great outcome on those as well. Service plays the key role on why we went in to begin with when I called to ask whether they carried Oliver People's frames and I was able to talk to someone who could answer my questions. That is increasingly rare these days so kudos to them for making it easy. PRICE POINTS & OPTIONS: They offer 50% off each additional pair of eyeglass frames when you buy one so I'm buying at least two pair, maybe a third, Add in the pair my husband purchased, that is three or maybe four pair of eyeglasses here because not only their selection is good but their service is great. (Even if the parking lot made it difficult for me to get in the door. I'll come back to that.) If you're on a tight budget, ask the optical specialists about some special low cost frames, they have them in a couple of tucked away cases, that with prescription lenses added can come in at maybe as little as under $150 total. ACCESSIBILITY: Nicely accessible interior; all on one floor, ample room for path of travel for buyers who might use wheelchairs to look at the displays. Accessible seating at fitting tables. My husband reports the loo is accessible too. The rub is the parking lot in this relatively newly built (sometime in 2000s) mostly medical or medical adjacent service provider buildings strip complex is neither ADA (law) nor Idaho Building Code compliant (Accessibility Chapter 11) for parking. For this building strip there is only one, non van accessible, spot at the far end of the strip. Given that is the only curb ramp location, if you are unable to step up over a curb, it will between difficult to impossible to get in the door. MY SOAP BOX: I said I'd come back to this; Accessibility law and code for parking responsibility of whomever owns the parking lot but 36 years after the laws and codes were established (1990) it is mind boggling this is wrong and it prevents disabled people from equal access to this good business. (Yep, I have a dog in this hunt since I have had multiple sclerosis since college days.) The owners might think of that and put some pressure on the lot owner given we with disabilities spend money too. read more

The doctor and staff were courteous and professional. I had very thorough eye examination followed by an explanation of all the results. Afterwards I was assisted selecting a pair of glasses from the great selection available. No pressure at all from the techs pushing certain frames. Once the prescription was filled, I picked up the glasses, the tech fit them perfectly. read more

I went to Boise Mountain Eyecare for 20 years. Something dramatically changed in the last few years and service and the doctor become awful. This year in May I went to get the new glasses. Those new glasses didn't work. I couldn't see in the mid range, so after struggling for 4 month I went back and asked the doctor to check the prescription. Turned out that the prescription was way off! The new lenses have been made and replaced, but after one month I got a vertigo. Incidentally the day I replaced those new glasses to my old ones, the office texted me to check how I am doing. I told them that I have the vertigo and I am not sure if it is caused by the prescription. The office texted me back saying that they made a mistake in the process! Today I got the 3rd version of the lenses and I can't see far or close. Apparently they added a cylinder to my prescription. The doctor didn't tell me that I might have an astigmatism! My son used this facility. These are the most disrespectful, rude and obnoxious people I have heard of. The accounting department keep sending a $10 bill that had already been paid. Instead of working with us, they threatened to send $10 to collection. Insisting it was not paid. Really? Showing in the bank account receipt, this was paid. Good: The girls at the front desk are very friendly. Nice selection of frames. Bad: I was convinced by them to get bifocals even though I have never had any before. They said it would be better for me since I work with a computer all day. They prescribed me with nearsightedness even though I have never had that issue before and I had just gotten off work and made it to their office for my eye appointment (my eyes were very tired). I explained to them that my insurance didn't cover it but I ended up paying sooo much money out of pocket because they said it would be better for me. Well they didn't work... I couldn't see while driving even though if I put my previous glasses on I could see just fine (the prescription showed that my new glasses and old were practically the same for farsightedness). I tried them for over a week and it was just terrible. I couldn't work at all because of the headaches. I went in again and the doctor checked my eyes again and said that the glasses were right but maybe I was just never going to get used to wearing bifocals. So they made me new glasses that were just for the computer and told me to use my old ones to drive. Of course they didn't offer any refunds of any kind even though I had to pay a crazy amount for the glasses. Well, the new ones still don't work. I can barely look at the computer without getting massive headaches. I got these glasses months ago and every time I try to use them (I keep trying because wow did I end up spending a fortune there) it hurts so bad. How is it possible that these glasses that were supposed to make looking at computers easier, create such eye pain and headaches every single time I try to use them. I honestly did not want to write a bad review about this because I just thought all Optometrists had the same policies and behavior towards customers. I obviously was wrong since I have found places that will refund you if the glasses don't work for you. When a customer wants a refund, or new glasses is not because they are trying to screw their business but it is because they genuinely need glasses that work for them to survive in the world. I can't believe that in less than a year I need to go and try to buy new glasses again because I got screwed over so badly. The extra money I had to spend at this place plus the little amount the insurance covered per year is gone and now someway somehow I have to come up with the money to buy new glasses thanks to this place. read more

I am unsure why this place has received so many negative reviews. I took myself and my youngest daughter here for an eye check up, and my youngest is a handful!! She has a hard time with all of the equipment and begins throwing a fit. The eye doctor was very patient and took the time to help her over come her fear of equipment. The only negative was the hard sell of eye glasses, while I understand the need to sell glasses to stay in business, I did not like the fact that we where passed off to a sales representative to buy glasses without being asked if we planned on purchasing glasses there. We had some issues with both my contacts and glasses due to my astigmatism, but Dr. Holly went above and beyond to figure it out. This is in response the doctor's response below, regarding my previous review. Apparently you do not take proper time to know the real facts about how your staff treats customers at your facility. This is a detail that I left out (because it can get kind of confusing to those who try to understand it all) but here goes... I had my first pair of prescription sunglasses done by your company and they were mis-measured by one of your staff (Jody). Jody explained to me that one of the cool things about Maui Jim is that they would will agree to correct any mistake that a customer was unhappy about with a complete 2nd pair of glasses - at no cost to the customer. This made me feel pretty confident when Jody had sold me with the idea of adding reading vision to the lenses. However, Jody mis-measured the first pair of sunglasses so that the eye level was so far off on the long-distance Rx that I could not see out of the glasses comfortably at all. I stated this immediately, but regardless she sent me home with them anyway and told me to try to get used to them. When I had to stop wearing them (they were way too far off and gave me headaches!) I came in and another staff member measured them, explaining that they were so far off that she fully understood why I could not see out of them (okay, its not just me!). Anyway, they said "no problem", and that they would send the glasses back to Maui Jim and they would do another pair at no cost. However when this happened (and I received them a few weeks later) the reading portion of the glasses that was added to the lenses were also mis-measured and they didn't line up at all. When Jody went to reorder them again they must have explained to her (as she explained to me) that they advised her to tell her customer not to add that feature as they were not fully accurate at lining up the reading Rx into the lenses properly (obviously having issues with how they install this feature into the glass). Jody called to tell me what Maui Jim advised this and I agreed, I can live without close-vision on sunglasses (as they were mostly for driving). Agreeing to the deal, I fully assumed (as would anyone) that I would not be charged for the close-vision feature since it could not be done in a way that the customer could ever be happy (as Maui admitted to). I figured no big deal, I could live without it. However I did NOT say it was cool to charge me for the feature when it was not delivered. Whether Maui admitted fault, or BME, ...I certainly wouldnt be charged for it, right? Where the confusion lies... the actual 2nd pair of glasses that were delivered from Maui Jim should have been my first pair due to mistakes made by your own BME staff on the original pair. It was not my fault the glasses were mis-measured so poorly, yet you have somehow justified it to yourself that this was my issue. Maui Jim finally agreed to make a new 3rd pair without this close-vision feature (as they now advised they were having issues adding it, but after your first mistake, my 2nd pair was now counted as my 3rd pair? (as if its some sort of gift given by you to me) ...I dont think so. Your fine company just made me pay for your own mistake. You should have voided that 1st pair completely as your mess-up, not as my own personal loss! You know you should have refunded the close-vision feature of the sunglasses that you talked me into buying in the first place, but you didn't feel you needed to, and for that reason I am writing this poor review. Its clear you have some very good reviews, and I dont doubt you have bettered yourself over time. I sure hope so because how you treat your customers now is how you will be treated later in chosen repeat business, ..or lost business, depending on which road you chose to travel. I wish you luck making better choices in the future so your clients don't walk away feeling as I did. read more

The office staff was misleading (nice but misleading), stating that my insurance required me to purchase upgrades (lenses). After my visit I contacted my insurance and they said this was not true. When I went back to the office they clarified that my insurance didn't "pay them much" and the Dr. required me to upgrade to make it worthwhile. When I said I didn't agree they refused to refund me the cost of the ordered glasses. I didn't believe this was correct and told them I would write an on-line review, the Dr became very upset, escorted me (physically uncomfortable even though I was already leaving) to my car and said I was not welcome back even for my records. read more

Using my first review for this special place. BME was recommended to us by a co-worker and living in Boise I was not excited to make the drive to Eagle, but went anyway- and I'm glad I did! Everything about my experience was great- being checked in and explaining their paperless movement really meant a lot for someone who works in paperwork all day, the staff greeted me as soon as I walked in, helped my 3 year old to feel comfortable while I received my exam, explained every option that was available to me during my visit and let ME choose which tests to have done or not and who doesn't like having a great one on one experience while you choose glasses!?
