Mine were progressing quickly and interfering with all facets of my daily life from computers to driving. In choosing my doctor I needed a person who was an intellect in his profession. It is not natural to me to allow someone to start carving on my eye with a sharp object. He answered all my questions well and tolerated my quizzing him. I could see he was focused on solving the problem. Add to this a lovely personality. The guy laughs, smiles, and is just enjoyable to be around. He listens. He even answers his own office phone if no one is available. Which tells me treats his office as a team and all his patient's calls are important to him. He has good availability; I didn't find myself on a waiting list just to get an appointment. My surgeries were scheduled within a week. His office stayed on top of my insurance. Now it is all done and my eyes are better than new. Having my eye site back is a gift. Colors are now vibrant; I can see details far away. Dr. Merkley was referred to me by one of his peers, which tells me he is viewed within his own circles favorably. I strongly recommend Dr. Merkley, especially if you are a perfectionist like myself and expect a lot from a medical professional.

Not having an ophthalmologist on staff at the hospital, they referred me to a local doctor who examined my eye, confirming that I was suffering from a retinal detachment, and who set up an immediate appointment for me with Dr. Simpson. Dr. Simpson examined me, confirming the retinal detachment, and performed surgery the same day. Following the surgery, I developed an extensive cataract in that eye, which I have been told by both Dr. Simpson and the doctor I see at the VA that it is not an uncommon occurrence. After sufficient healing had taken place, The VA doctor removed the cataract, after which I discovered the vision in the eye was occluded. Both my VA doctor and Dr. Simpson examined me and concurred that I had suffered another retinal detachment in the same eye. Dr. Simpson again operated on me to correct the condition. Unfortunately, through no fault of Dr. Simpson, my vision is less than 100 % in the affected eye, due to scar tissue forming on the cornea as a result of the repeated, but necessary, surgeries. However, I'm happy that I'm not blind! Having had many, many visits to his office throughout my ordeal, I've found his staff to be professional, friendly, and courteous. Although Dr. Simpson is 'a man of few words,' in my opinion, I have found him knowledgeable and caring, and always willing to answer my questions, and the surgical staff with whom he works at the hospital have told me he is one of the best at what he does, which I have no reason to doubt. I would go to him again if I needed the type of care that he specializes in.

I was able to get an appointment quickly and was examined by Dr. Scott Simpson. Upon arrival at his office, the reception staff were polite, professional and helpful. The Nurse, Laura, who did the initial exam was prompt, very helpful and explained everything clearly. Dr. Simpson did a thorough exam, explained everything he was doing as he was examining my eyes, and at the end gave me an in depth explanation and some printed reference materials. I highly recommend Dr. Scott Simpson and his staff.

If you're looking for Oliver Peoples eyeglass frames, this is THE place in the Boise area to find a…read moretop notch selection of them in many styles, sizes and colors as well as an impressive array of quality frames in other brands. Add in skilled opticial specialists, thanks to both Amy and Wylie, and their knowledge in size, style and fit, this is as easy as eyeglass shopping gets once you are in the door. (I'll come back to that.) SELECTION & SERVICE: My husband has been on the hunt for an additional pair of sunglasses and he found Ray Bans here that were just what he had in mind but wanted them in polarized lenses. Amy ordered them and they were in within two weeks time. I knew what OP frames I was looking for and while they had them in store, not in the smaller sizes I needed and she ordered those as well, in addition to a couple of others I wanted to consider. Wylie was particularly helpful in offering expert feedback on how the frames fit once the ordered items arrived. It is early days; I haven't had the lenses made yet but I anticipate a great outcome on those as well. Service plays the key role on why we went in to begin with when I called to ask whether they carried Oliver People's frames and I was able to talk to someone who could answer my questions. That is increasingly rare these days so kudos to them for making it easy. PRICE POINTS & OPTIONS: They offer 50% off each additional pair of eyeglass frames when you buy one so I'm buying at least two pair, maybe a third, Add in the pair my husband purchased, that is three or maybe four pair of eyeglasses here because not only their selection is good but their service is great. (Even if the parking lot made it difficult for me to get in the door. I'll come back to that.) If you're on a tight budget, ask the optical specialists about some special low cost frames, they have them in a couple of tucked away cases, that with prescription lenses added can come in at maybe as little as under $150 total. ACCESSIBILITY: Nicely accessible interior; all on one floor, ample room for path of travel for buyers who might use wheelchairs to look at the displays. Accessible seating at fitting tables. My husband reports the loo is accessible too. The rub is the parking lot in this relatively newly built (sometime in 2000s) mostly medical or medical adjacent service provider buildings strip complex is neither ADA (law) nor Idaho Building Code compliant (Accessibility Chapter 11) for parking. For this building strip there is only one, non van accessible, spot at the far end of the strip. Given that is the only curb ramp location, if you are unable to step up over a curb, it will between difficult to impossible to get in the door. MY SOAP BOX: I said I'd come back to this; Accessibility law and code for parking responsibility of whomever owns the parking lot but 36 years after the laws and codes were established (1990) it is mind boggling this is wrong and it prevents disabled people from equal access to this good business. (Yep, I have a dog in this hunt since I have had multiple sclerosis since college days.) The owners might think of that and put some pressure on the lot owner given we with disabilities spend money too.

Afterwards I was assisted selecting a pair of glasses from the great selection available. No pressure at all from the techs pushing certain frames. Once the prescription was filled, I picked up the glasses, the tech fit them perfectly.

When I called back to ask about the breakdown of charges, the price changed again. It didn't seem like they knew what they were charging me for. But I paid it. Then they called AGAIN to ask for more money. I asked for a breakdown to be emailed to me. #2 My husband got a call and text that his glasses were ready, he took time off work to come pick them up and they said their system sent the messages in error. #3 Then when my husband called to ask about the referral credit not showing up, the front desk said Office Manager Kristi will call my husband. And then emailed saying she DID call and leave a voicemail. Which she did not. He called again and Kristi was condescending and said "it just doesn't make sense for us to do that for a nuclear family, what if you had 8 kids?" I said, "Well your flyer specifically states "Refer a friend or family member and receive a $20 credit on your account. Just tell the friend or family member to let us know you referred them!" We did just that on the intake." Kristi said she would honor a $20 referral credit but we would not be allowed to refer anyone else to them and she is going to reprint all of their flyers to exclude the nuclear family. LOL. I'm surprised how rude and abrasive she was. Your advertising is misleading and yeah you SHOULD fix it. I've literally referred my husband to every doctor I have and my dentist is awesome and gives $50 credits, no cap. Ha. No issues with the doctor or eye test parts of our visit, the eye tech guy was super sweet, but we won't be back. They have too many problems to deal with and we spent over $1,000 there after insurance. They can keep their $20 referral credit and they just lost me, my husband, and I was going to refer my mom who needs an exam and glasses.
