We kicked off the night with the Bánh Bò Gimlet, which set the tone for an amazing meal. It came garnished with a small pandan leaf, and every time you sip, the aromatic pandan fragrance hits you first--making the rich pandan flavor shine through even more! The appetizers were absolute dynamite. We tried the day's special stuffed wings--boneless wings stuffed with scallops, shrimp, and meat paste that were incredibly crisp, deeply savory, and served piping hot (be careful on that first bite!). The tuna tartare served on crunchy taro chips was wonderfully balanced--honestly, my only wish was for a few more chips because the flavor was so good. For mains, the tender beef cheek over celeriac mash with crispy enoki mushrooms and the rich Thịt Kho mushroom dish were both hits. Pro tip: definitely order a side of rice to soak up all those rich, delicious sauces! We wrapped up with dessert: the Mango Crepe Cake and the Lychee Ice Cream with a warm Pandan Mochi Bar. A quick strategy tip: eat the delicate mango crepe cake first! The pairing of the cool lychee ice cream over the warm, chewy pandan mochi bar is so vibrant and delicious that it will completely steal the show if you start with it. Can't wait to come back for more!

We had a really good birthday dinner here. We ordered 4 dishes, and it was so much food that we couldn't finish. The beef cheek special (off the menu, $42) was my favorite. The meat was so tender and the crispy onions and celery puree gave great textural contrast. We also really enjoyed the pork belly and meat balls appetizer ($30). The fish sauce it came it was so delicious! The crab fried rice was also super rich and delicious, and the tenderloin ($46) had a lot of rich meaty flavor. For dessert, we got the pandan mochi bar which came with lychee ice cream ($16). The ambiance was very nice too, great for a date night.

Stopped by on a Monday at 6pm without a reservation and was told a 2 hour wait for our party of two. We decided to wait because my friend wanted to use her Chase Reserve dining credits before they expired in July. After 2.5 hours, we were seated at the bar, which is reserved for walk-ins while the tables are for reservations. The bartenders were friendly, offered great recommendations, and service was quick. We order 2 cocktails each, 3 shared plates, and an appetizer. Everything was good, but nothing stood out enough to justify the long wait.

Came here after a long day of work and it was really solid food! Good: - This place is beautiful! It's so nicely lit - Great for a date or 1-1 catchup - The crab fat fried rice was amazing! - I also really liked the vermicelli dish but it was so small - the sauce was so good! Bad: - Pretty expensive food, ended up paying $88 for 2 people - Took a while to get our food - The portions are really small for how much you pay Overall wouldn't come again unless I had a gift certificate - it's so expensive.

We had Bodega on our list for quite a while so were hyped to finally be able to give it a try. The aesthetic is not what I expected, lots of dark colored wood on the walls, floor and furniture. I assume at night time it had a dark and moody feel but, in the daytime, it made the interior look quite tired. Onto the food, we ordered the very popular Bun Cha and Shaking Beef. The Bun Cha was good but the Shaking Beef was great! So tender and marinated to perfection. My one big complaint is that the portion sizes are about 3/4 of what I would typically expect. Our waiter was attentive and took time to explain the dishes. Though it didn't quite meet the hype (for me), I'm glad I finally checked it off the list.

Ambiance: 4.5*s Food: 4.5*s Surrounding neighborhood: 1* Parking situation: 1* Came here on a Friday afternoon for a lunch date. Driving around to find parking here was a pure nightmare. The surrounding streets were filled with people living on the streets and leaving the car even if we managed to find an empty spot felt unsafe. The restaurant recommended us to use 233 Ellis to park, they mentioned we could get a discount there. We only learnt later that there is no discount on the $20 per hour ticket on Friday and Saturday. **AMBIANCE: the inside is a stark contrast to the going ons outside. Place is cosy but feels hip and well done. Makes for a cosy date place if you ignore the situation outside. **SERVICE: very friendly and they didn't force me to order and let me sit at my table for more than 20 mins or so while my dining partner was driving around trying to find parking. **FOOD: Modern elevated Vietnamese cuisine. *Lemongrass grilled wings-3.5/5- can be better especially with infusion of flavors, *Shaking beef:5/5- best dish on our table. Indulgence especially with the amount of butter used but well worth it. Flavors are splendid. *Hoi an chicken rice-4/5- broth was amazing. Rice was great. Chicken was cold and flavorless! *Vietnamese chicken salad-3.5/5-sweet dressing which I didn't fancy much. Veggies were sufficiently nice and crunchy. Chicken was boiled and cold. *Dry hu tieu-3.5/5- not a memorable dish but the same chicken broth as before which we loved. *Spring roll-4/5 Overall a good menu and some memorable dishes. Prices are decent as well.

As someone who loves Vietnam and just got back from there, particularly Hanoi, this place surprised me in the best way!!! It's much more difficult to find places that serve northern Vietnamese food, or Hanoi classics. This place offered quite a few and all were delicious. We ordered the bun cha, nem cua, cha ca, banh cuon, and the crab fat fried rice. Everything was well presented and well made. No complaints! Service was friendly and accommodating as well. Interior is nice and clean. I would return! It is on the pricier side, but the quality makes it worth it. :)

Bodega is a cute and small Vietnamese restaurant near Union Square. If you weren't looking for it specifically, it's easy to miss! I came here with a party of 5 to celebrate a birthday and we're sat at the very front in a large, comfortable booth. FOOD: We ordered a bunch of items on their menu, from Bo Tai Chanh, Banh Cuon, Bun Cha to the Bo Luc Lac. Everything was rich in flavor with healthy portion sizes. The crowd favorite was definitely the Bun Cha, which was deep in spices and ultimately leaving everyone wanting another order or even something to take home for the next day. SERVICE: The food came out quickly once we placed our order. Additionally, we celebrated a birthday and they added a candle to our dessert. The staff at Bodega made it even more special because they took a Polaroid of us as a souvenir. I loved my experience at Bodega and can't wait to bring other friends and family here to try out their dishes!

The garlic aioli banh mi sandwich is very savory and delicious. The banh mi bread is soft to the bite and not rough or overly crunchy. The beef tenderloin itself isn't doing much but the aioli spread saves it here. The sauce is sweet and enjoyable, but I think I prefer the sandwich better without it. The service here wasn't entirely friendly and was very blunt, but it was also lunch rush.

Hidden gem near the Square. Nice ambiance, good service and everything I tasted was good. Lost a star due to very little vegetarian options. Had the braised eggplant and mocktail ant they were tasty. My friends were very happy with their meals as well.

Chose this for a girls day around the city, was not disappointed! While its neighborhood is sadly a little dicey, the vibe inside the restaurant more than makes up for it. It's cozy with lots of cute art and seating. We stayed for almost 2 hours and the staff was really accommodating, never made us feel rushed. Food was good, but unfortunately didn't have that extra WOW factor (hence minus 1 star). Again, want to reiterate that it was definitely great but I think it missed some of the oils/spices that Viet food traditionally has. The cocktails, however, DEFINITELY had that WOW! I would totally come back just for some cocktails and small apps if I lived nearby. It's a little pricey but not unfair. For an app, two cocktails, and two entrees, we managed to walk out at around $45/pp, which these days, is pretty good!

Very good bowl of chicken pho in a classy atmosphere. I came in for lunch on a cold day in SF. The restaurant was busy but not packed, so I was able to get seated right away. The atmosphere is classy - oak finishing, interesting artwork, and a mix of high and low-top tables. The service was good - quick and attentive. Now to the food... the broth of their pho ranks up there with the best I've had. It was rich and flavorful, and tasted freshly made. The only drawback was the amount of inedible parts of the chicken that hadn't been strained out of the broth. There were pieces of skin, gristle, and a few bones. I was able to avoid them, but it detracted from the overall experience. I would go back but I may try something else on the menu next time.

Arrived at 530 for an early dinner with 2 young children. Restaurant is about 25% filled, all booths empty. We were sat at the table closest to the kitchen (worst table there IMO). I requested a booth, and was told that all the booths were "booked." I ask how I can book a booth in the future, I was told I can't. So ‍ Food hasn't arrived and service is already meh.

The chirashi don was $53 and did taste great, albeit sushi rice with amaebi, ikura, and uni is hard to make badly. But, the bowl was literally 6 inches across and came with maybe 6 sheets of commercial seasoned nori. Not worth the splurge! The fries and burger shared the melted cheese sauce, which was basically a fancy velveeta. The burger did have a nice blush in spite of being served in a pool of bubbling cheese saucy. It was all just fine but egregious at $15 and $28 dollars. It does look nice for the gram, but is a bit overwhelming in terms of cheese. The best bite for me was the tebasaki, which were crispy and had a sweet yuzu kosho glaze. I could eat many of these, but the $19 plate had 4 wings (flats with tip attached).
