How fancy! Banh khot caviar! The banh khot was delicious. The cupcake was light and crispy with a hint of coconut, the shrimp was soft and succulent, all wrapped in a tiny lettuce cup. The caviar atop looked nice, but didn't add much taste wise. We enjoyed the kale and avocado salad. The ingredients were very fresh with a tangy vegetarian nuoc mam dressing. The sea bass was cooked perfectly. Moist, tender with a nice golden pan fry on the bottom. I loved the sauce and dressing on the Bo Luc lac and the potatoes were out of this world! We came for a holiday monday lunch and the receptionist just kept handing out takeouts, and our waiter was no where to be found when we needed to pack and get the check. It was, unpleasant. On top of that, when we packed to go I was hoping they'd pack the sauce that comes with the fried chicken and pork chop and they didn't (not a new one, just what we had left). Parking was also extremely difficult on a Monday noon. Found one street parking spot 8 mins walk away. Now onto the food. There were a couple items that were pretty good: the chicken wings, the pork chop, both of which taste better with the dipping sauce. The chicken salad was pretty good (so my partner said coz I didnt eat any of that). The beef pho was a bit of a disappointment: not that it tastes bad or anything, but the meat portion is just the least I've seen in a Vietnamese restaurant, I was almost just eating the noodles. I went here for a friend's birthday, and it was a private dining experience downstairs with about 30 people. It was an 8 to 10 course meal (couldn't keep track) and it was hands-down one of the most delicious meals I've eaten. Every dish was sooooo good and perfectly cooked. And we were at table full of foodies with super high standards. We were so impressed by it and it was so unexpected. It could've been a Michelin star rated restaurant because it was that good. Pho Huong Viet on Geary has the best nem cua bể, even comparable or better than the restaurants in Vietnam. - Gỏi gà: chicken salad was ok, nothing outstanding. The sauce was a little tô sweet for me. - Bò né: was a huge letdown. They didn't marinate the beef, which was the whole point. I had a very high bar for bò né since my home in D4, HCMC is close to a legendary spot. I asked them for soy sauce cos if not, I wouldn't be able to continue my lunch. - Spring roll with nem nuong was pretty good, not Brodard level but I will take this. If you've been to Nha Trang and tried nem nướng Ninh Hoà, you will never ever order the plain shrimp spring roll again. - Lemongrass pork chop was surprisingly good. Well marinated. Its a trio. The uni work pretty well with the fish sauce though it was literally gone in seconds. Excited for Bún chả. Now I recently had BCHN last week as a delivery from a local restaurant near me so it's hard not to compare. The sauce and the meat was good. But feel like some of the herbs and veggies could be more , like I want to drown in herbs. As a fan of their lunch, I was excited to try Bodega for dinner. They are currently on inKind, so I highly recommend going that route for the discount! While there were some definite highlights, this particular rotation of dishes wasn't my absolute favorite. Here is the breakdown of the meal: Appetizers Ahi Tuna ($19) - 5 stars: This was delicious and incredibly fresh. It had a deep umami flavor that made it a standout starter. Could've eaten the entire bowl myself. We visited Bodega on a Tuesday evening without a reservation, so we arrived right before opening. Luckily, we were able to grab two seats at the bar. Sitting at the bar ended up being the perfect choice. Service was quick, and the bartender was attentive and readily available throughout the night. We ordered a couple of drinks, several dishes, and dessert. For drinks, we tried the Banh Bo Gimlet and the Bodega Old Fashioned. The Banh Bo Gimlet was slightly sweet but refreshing, with a nice pandan flavor coming through at the end. The Bodega Old Fashioned was strong and tasty, although I didn't pick up much of the pho spice. For food, we ordered the Banh Khot, Bun Cha, Crab Fat Fried Rice, and Bo Luc Lac. For the Banh Khot, you can choose one piece with caviar for $16 or three pieces without caviar for $15. We opted for the three-piece order, and it was delicious. The exterior was perfectly crispy, although I wish it came with some nuoc mam on the side. The Bun Cha was our favorite dish of the night. The meatballs and pork belly were incredibly flavorful, especially with the fish sauce. The Crab Fat Fried Rice was also really good and came loaded with scallops. The other proteins were a little harder to identify, but the flavors reminded me of Chinese salted fish and chicken fried rice. The pickled long beans added a nice texture and balance to the dish. The Bo Luc Lac had an incredible depth of flavor. Paired with the sauce served on the side, it was chef's kiss. The bartender also offered us their Thai chili hot sauce, which went really well with the dish. The pearl onions were cooked perfectly, and a bite with all the components together was fantastic. My only complaint was that we ordered the beef medium rare, but it came out closer to well done. Although the meat was still tender, the texture was softer and slightly grainy, which wasn't my preference. For dessert, we ordered the Pandan Mochi Bar. The mochi bar is like a butter mochi. Host was too preoccupied and so the bartender had to take over. It was like 10 min before we got seated eventhough we had reservations. The food was ok, but I've probably had better Vietnamese food in San Jose. Shaking beef was the most standout dish with tender beef. But there were only a few pieces of it. A lot more rice and onions, than actual meat. Potatoes were delicious in the dish. Vietnamese salad was refreshing with lots of chicken. Pho Hanoi was ok, but I've had way better in SJ. It just doesn't hit like others do. Probably because the noodles were not hand made and it was a rice stick rehydrated. We used to like this place a lot and have been many times, but seems like they are doing budget cuts as the value is way less there, especially for the chef's tasting menu. the food is still solid, but the 90 dollar pp tasting menu is not advised as we added up the total value they served us and it was below 90 pp. They cut out a whole 3 dishes vs the last time we were here over a year ago. Everything is also on the menu. When we brought this up to the servers, they gave a lot of weird explanations and then eventually added another dessert to make the value. We also got the Banh Cuon: Fresh Rice Rolls, Ground Pork, Wood Ear Mushroom, Crispy Shallots, Nuoc Nam. The rolls were very flavorful, the fresh veg on the side complemented the pork really well, especially with a touch of the nuoc nam fish sauce. The next course was my favorite of the night, Bun Cha: Heritage Pork Belly, Meatballs, Pickled Carrots, & Kohlrabi. The pork belly was absolutely delicious, the marinade was incredible. The noodles with the pork belly mixed with cilantro and veg was fresh, flavorful. I loved it! Not flashy at all from the outside but once inside, it's a very clean, contemporary restaurant with the wood paneling, the high tables, bar area, as well as some regular tables sprinkled throughout. The staff are very busy but friendly. A steady stream of diners come in, but on this Sunday afternoon there was no wait for a table. They have a nice variety of Vietnamese dishes. Honestly for the price that you pay in sf this place isn't bad! Nothing special and prolly better viet restaurants around the city but a solid choice if you happen to be in the area. The plates are tasty, lots of variety in meats, vegetables, and toppings with good portions too. Service is friendly and food comes out quick. Tried their pho hanoi and it was interesting! Not the typical "pho" flavors you would imagine but a fun smoky twist with tender meats which surprised me (in a good way) Only downside is that theres no service for some reason in the restaurant and the drinks that we got were so so. Overall, the food is flavorful, the ingredients are high quality, and the ambiance is stylish and inviting. That said, there were a few hiccups that held this place back from being truly great. If this were a casual hole in the wall, none of these issues would matter nearly as much, but with an upscale tier comes higher expectations. the appetizers are the star of the show. Beautiful presentation, incredibly fresh herbs, perfectly chewy noodles, super flavorful meats, and deeply savory sauces that honestly transported me back to my trip to Hanoi a few years ago. Everything about them felt thoughtful and well executed. The dry pho landed arround a 3.5/5, not bad at all and the ingredients are high quality with real pieces of shrimp. Mixing all the colors and textures together with the savory soy based sauce was fun and satisfying even if it did not quite reach the same heights as the appetizers. Hiccups: We had an issue with bun cha where inside of one of the meatballs was clearly uncooked, the meat was pink/red and was very obviously raw, When we showed our waiter, even he looked shocked and immediately acknowledged that it was raw. However they replaced only the single meatball instead of the entire dish, which felt strange. we ended up not touching the rest of the dish because it was hard to trust that any of it would be properly cooked, honestly this would have been a non-issue had they replaced the entire dish. The other disappointing dish was the shaking beef. while the beef cut was def high quality, something went very wrong in the marinade. It tasted like it had been tenderized with too much baking soda or left for too long, causing the beef to completely lose its texture. Instead of having any chew, it was overly soft and crumbly, to the point where it felt like i was eating a piece of potato, instead of beef. For a dish that usually shines because of texture, this was really sad. We barely touched it after one bite, and I noticed nearby tables also leaving most of theirs untouched. Maybe it was an off day, but this is def an area they could easily improve upon. The service was okay, I understand it was busy and not having our servers attention 100% of the time is fine. Still our waters were constantly left unfilled and we had to ask him several times for refills or to bring us some sauce. at the end of the day, none of these hiccups were deal breakers, they merely explain why this particular visit fell short for me - I will be back again as i think they have a lot of potential, and will update my review if they improve read more

Doors opened at 11am, and at least one group which had lined outside the door was turned away immediately (staff mentioned they were out of tables and cited an estimated wait time). I wasn't sure how the bun cha would look like from the menu description, but it was a fun dish. Meat and veggies in a sweet and sour soup which was very flavorful with side herbs and lettuce to add. The broth was probably our favorite thing in the restaurant we tried as it was really delicious. I went today with my family to celebrate my dad's birthday. The food was amazing and so was the service. Our waiter was extremely kind and accommodating to a dairy allergy in our group. We all ordered the 12 course Bodega tasting meal. The food was served in small bites but also family style and it was all delicious. The portions were huge, the second to last meal was a bowl of pho and we all ended up taking it home because of how stuffed we were. The most memorable dish was the Bahn Knot Caviar and the Bun Cha. Made a reservation through open table for Monday night dinner time. Although it was super busy we were quickly sat as soon as we arrived! We started off the meal with the oysters and banh khot caviar and both were extremely impressive flavor profiles. The oysters were the best blend of spicy, tangy and refreshing. For the banh khot the caviar serving was smaller than expected, but that did not negate the incredible taste. For our mains we had the bun cha, crab fried rice and tiger prawns. The bun cha was salty yet sweet and reminded me of the dishes I had in Hanoi. The crab fried rice was good, but slightly salty. However if you took the sauce from the tiger prawns and mixed it, the was flavor was top tier. Our fav dish of the night was definitely the tiger prawns. Bodega is one of the chase sapphire reserve exclusive tables and I'm really glad we chose to come here! The restaurant staff were super nice and attentive, and even let us split the check 4-way. We got the chef's choice menu ($90/person) and it's a great option if you are thinking of trying all the popular items PLUS we got extra off-menu item as well. Just keep in mind that it's family style so everyone at the table must opt in. I left feeling super full and satisfied overall. Now for the food.. we started off with raw oysters and uni so just a warning to those who aren't fans. My favorite dishes of the night were the banh khot, Chinese long beans, pho, and of course... the pandan mochi cake w/ lychee ice cream dessert! If you're looking for bold Vietnamese flavors with a modern twist, Bodega absolutely delivers. We started our meal with the Bánh Khọt Caviar ($16 for one piece) yes, it's a splurge, but it was the perfect, luxurious bite to kick off the meal. The Bò Tái Chanh, a Vietnamese beef carpaccio, was outstanding. The flavors melded beautifully, the sweet onions, crispy shallots, and bright citrus dressing came together perfectly. Next came the Bánh Cuốn, fresh rice rolls filled with ground pork and mushrooms, comforting, delicate, and full of flavor. Our final dish was a special off-menu item, Miến Xào Cua, a generous and umami-packed plate of glass noodles with Dungeness crab. A definite must-try if it's available! Both the Mango OT and Flaming Lotus cocktails were absolutely delicious and I can't wait to return to try the Chef's Tasting Menu next time. I booked the last time slot they had for the day which was 10 pm. Ordering was basically last call, and the space was almost empty as they were wrapping up for the night. We came to snack and have drinks to start the night. Our host gave our group the nice corner booth in the front and gave recommendations for their most popular drinks. Our server Moz(?), a kind gentleman, was quick and attentive. DRINKS: Unfortunately, Blue Beauty was unavailable so I went with the Saigon Smash which was light and very decent. Saigon Smash tasted like a lighter mojito with a hint of sugar cane. I taste tested the Mango OT, Sweet and Soursop, and the Bodega Old Fashioned as well. The Mango OT was good but had a strong Thai chili flavor, almost like the Mango tamarind candy lollipop. The Sweet and Soursop is an acquired taste, I liked it but some of my friends did not enjoy the aftertaste. I would describe the aftertaste as similar to a Longan fruit shell, which I didn't mind. The Bodega Old Fashioned was nice and strong. FOOD: We ordered Banh Cuon (Rice rolls), Chinese Long Beans, and Bo Luc Lac (Shaken Beef). The Banh Cuon was served authentically which I enjoyed. The fish sauce was light and not overpowering. My group seemed to really enjoy the Chinese Long Beans which was topped with dry shrimp. The Bo Luc Lac was cooked nicely, not too well done and still tender enough. The potatoes in the Bo Luc Lac were perfect, soft and crispy. I would definitely come back for a full dinner next time! My hubby has wanted to try Bodega for a while. We came for an early dinner and ordered their prix fixe meal. 9 courses, including dessert, were a surprise and were all delicious. The first 4 courses came in rapid succession, which made us feel a little rushed to eat them. I wish they gave us a little more time between the first four courses. The rest of the courses had better timing. We had two rice noodle dishes - one cold and the other one hot (pho). I think I would rather have had a rice course, though, especially the crab fat fried rice, but I guess that just means we need to return. My favorite of the courses was the Bánh Khọt Caviar: Crispy fried turmeric coconut rice cakes topped with fresh shrimp and caviar. So different from other Vietnamese food I've tried. All the broth that came with the dishes were flavorful. Service was excellent... out water was always filled. I think the only thing that I wish they did was for the server, not always our waiter, to slow down when explaining the dish and to tell us how to eat the dishes. The restaurant is relative small and seems to be crowded on weekends... so reservation is recommended. We have Uni banh beo ($19), bánh cuon ($15), nom or papaya salad ($14), nem cua ($17), Vietnamese coffee ($6) and Sugarcane juice ($7). Banh beo with Uni: it is a twist from traditional banh beo, instead of minced shrimp and crispy pork rinds, Uni is the topping for the rice cakes. However, instead of soft and bouncy texture of rice cakes, these are gelatinous, gooey... no Bueno for me! Banh cuon is another traditional dish, rice rolls with minced ground pork and wood-eared mushroom and served with mints, vietnamese hams and dipping sauce. They do stay with the traditional dish. We enjoy the dish. Nem cua is deep fried crab spring rolls, served with vermicelli, mints and dipping sauce. The rolls are very crispy. We can taste the crab meat. We like this one! Nom is another northern Vietnamese street food. Papaya salad with dried beef (beef jerky). Maybe I'm used to the southern style but the sauce is lacking of flavor (need siracha and a dash maggi to the fish sauce). So, we enjoyed our experience here. I would recommend to try it at least once. They don't have staple vietnamese dishes like pho, rolls, banh mi, etc. So, expect to try other dishes.
