The brisket was ok. It was very fatty and tender, but did not have a bite or much smoke flavor. I was surprised at this. Perhaps it was an off day. It must have been an off day as there were a bunch of regular customers waiting in line. We had to wait outdoors initially until the line cleared up so we could get inside. The beans were bland as if they were out of a can. I would like to point out that the beans were free. So that was a bonus. Hard to pick apart free food. My son's girlfriend had the pulled pork sandwich. She had to pick a ton of fat out of it. She liked the flavor after she picked out the fat. The potato salad was awesome. It had sour cream in it instead of mayonnaise. It is very rich. Overall I would not wait that long in line again for that brisket. My wife did really like her sloppy Joe sandwich though. This is my favorite local Bodacious. I'm a vegetarian. But even vegetarians sometimes cheat and need a little protein, and when I do, I go to Bodacious. This is a smaller restaurant. They run out of seating quite often, but don't worry, they have some school desks you can use until they are gone and the you can just eat somewhere outside. The portions are generous. The line goes quick. The food is delicious. The meat is top quality and slow cooked. The prices are reasonable. Parking is ample. This particular one is generally full of working people and students. You can't go wrong with the sauce either because it's good too. Also if you eat in, they have free beans that are self serve. This is the best BBQ in Longview and, while part of the same chain, is in no way like the rest of the Bodacious BBQ's around. This is the one to eat at. It's on par with some of the great places around the state that people rave about and that make Texas Monthly BBQ lists. Their sausage is great and has the consistency of house made sausage. Went by yesterday. Picked up brisket, hot links, ribs and the French Onion soup Sausage. The brisket was amazing. One of the best I have ever had in Texas. Hot links and sausage were original and really good. Ribs were good, but not worth getting off the couch for. The spicy bbq sauce was addictive and make my mouth water now just thinking about it. We could have seriously drank that stuff. The service was just as good. I was bringing the bbq back to Houston and they went out the way to help make that work. Vacuum sealing the bbq and it was still warm 4 hours later. Overall great experience and one of the top 2/3 bbq places I have ever been to. I ordered coming from Shreveport heading to Dallas at lunch for 5 lbs of assorted meat. The owner waited for me to get there before he prepared it so it would stay hot until I arrived at home. We stopped at Bodacious Bar-B-Q en route to Dallas from Jackson, Mississippi. We sampled two chopped meat sandwiches, beef and pork. They had a Boudin on a piece of paper where you order, and since we've never had it, we decided to add that too. The boudin, which is a Louisiana sausage was interesting, containing meat, rice and spices. Glad we tried it but probably won't have it again. The pork sandwich was average. The chopped beef sandwich was one of the best we've ever had, and we try a lot of BBQ places. I'd stop there again for that. The size of the sandwiches were very generous, even getting an "I can't eat another bite from my always hungry spouse" - very hard to do. This location has been my favorite for a while, but once it re-opened a few months back I knew I needed to try the food to see what changed. I am no professional BBQ judge, but I have eaten some great barbecue and some bad barbecue. This location, well, it is as near to a spiritual experience as you can get with barbecue. The brisket alone is - in my humble opinion - better than any other I have ever tried, including that of Killen's, Cooper's, Luling City Market, etc. Seriously this Brisket was the most moist, tender, and flavorful substance to ever grace my plate. The crust (bark) was not overwhelming and had a subtle sweetness with not a trace of a burned or carbon flavor. The sausage was well balanced with the flavors and spice. Not too salty or fatty and had a noticeable smoke ring that added that extra level of flavor. Obviously the re-opening has indicated a pretty significant change. I always was a fan of Bodacious, but this location now seems to have the best flavor around. Grilled jalapeño poppers are wrapped in bacon and stuffed with cream cheese. They're $2.50 each. Really?? Yep, then I ate one. I'll take a dozen of those grilled jalapeño poppers and hang the cost. I was headed to the 2016 Red Dirt BBQ & Music Festival. The plan was to make the most of it and hit a few spots in East Texas the day before event. The original Bodacious Bar-B-Q opened up in 1968. Additional chain restaurants opened up later, but each one is individually and operated. The original location temporary closed when owner Roland Lindsey got ill. Lindsey's son-in-law Jordan Jackson had a culinary background and worked at Stanley's Famous Pit Bar-B-Q in Tyler. The restaurant is now open again with Jackson manning the pits and with Roland's health better. This was the first stop of my day. I wanted to get to Bodacious by opening but ended up arriving right before noon. I was all alone on this four stop BBQ trip so I had to pace myself. I ordered a little bit of brisket, baby back pork ribs, and some homemade sausage. The brisket was... how would you describe it... stupendous. I have not been introduced to a good brisket in a while so it was a nice surprise. I could not stop myself from eating the tender beef. I kept reminding myself I had three more stops. The briskets are smoked for 20-22 hours!? They start in a mesquite smoke bath and finish with post oak. The bark and the well-rendered fat made for some good eating. The baby backs were pretty tasty. The sweet, smoky, and juicy meat did not give up a fight as it came away from the bone. Once again, my multiple stops day was putting a damper on things. I could have eaten a half rack easily if not a full one. The homemade sausage was a good effort. The brisket and pork shoulder blend had a good amount of fat, and the casing could barely hold everything together. I would have prefer a beefier sausage. Not pictured is the beans they give away. Although I only ate two bites, I thought they were on the better end of beans I have eaten. The original Bodacious Bar-B-Q will be on my schedule every time I go to Red Dirt. The smoked meats were superb. I did not get to try the pulled pork but will definitely next time. Jackson and crew are doing great things. The locals do not know how good they have it. I am a BBQ super fanatic who has traveled all over Texas and been to all of the top rated joints such as Louie Mueller, Luling City Market, Franklin, Micklethwait, Snow's, and many more fine establishments. This place slow cooks a mean brisket. They use the butcher paper method to lock in all that great moisture and deliciousness. Very similar to Franklin in this regard. This brisket is right there with the very best. The house made sausage is also in the same league with the greats like Kreuz's and Luling City Matket. It has a nice pop when you bite in and tons of juicy delight. The inside is coarse and delicious. The thing they have added that the classics did not is a level of spicy. It works quite well. It's going to Venice to have a place right here that I can feel like I'm in South Texas fine BBQ establishments. Tomorrow, I try the beef rib! Can't wait!
