The food was okay it's was cooked really good it was fall apart tender but it was really bland I don't think it was spiced at all. The sides were mediocre. The sausage was Good I did eat all of that. Terrible BBQ, ribs were so tough... did not fall off the bone very chewy, brisket was even worse, chewy, no flavor...I wanted this place to be good.. also friend had the pulled pork sandwich and half of it was pork fat.. I worked at a bodacious for a year during my high school years. Not once did I have a customer complain about bagging on a carry out. Why in the gods green earth this owner allows his employees to bag items in paper bags is beyond me. A rational person would not put a pint of bbq sauce with a paper basket of pickles, semi wrapped in plastic, into a paper bag. My brisket was so dry with no flavor that it made me sad. I poured so much sauce on it and it didn't do anything. I thought about the lovely smoker out in front that I passed by before walking inside. The smoker had given me so much hope. And the stack of wood that was as tall as me. So much potential... My ribs were also tough. They weren't smoked long enough. Not enough love went into them. The only think I enjoyed was the coleslaw. I finally made it out to East Texas to visit some friends and naturally, as I do with all places I travel to, I sought out some BBQ. My friends mentioned they really loved Bodacious and all the reviews on yelp were pretty good, so I figured why not. Bodacious' set up is like most BBQ places you will go to, you will order at the counter then take a seat with your food. It is a simple set up and nothing wrong with that (something that I prefer too, no pesky waiters getting in between me and my 'Q." As with all my other first-trip BBQ visits, I went heavy on the meat and ordered by the pound: half pound of ribs, quarter pound of sausage and a quarter pound of brisket. The Ribs: Definitely the thing Bodacious does best. This untrimmed pork spare rib has lots of nice flavor, a nice smoke ring to complement that, with a moist texture to boot. The meat separated from the bone fairly easily too, so they know how to do ribs here. Did not notice much rub or seasoning on the ribs. But as I said, best of the three meats I ordered and very solid overall. The Brisket: My portion featured cuts of the lean side (the flat) of the brisket, with a nice coloring and smoke ring. The brisket had a moderate smokiness to it and was fairly moist considering the cut (the lean cuts tend to dry out faster after being sliced than the fatty side of the brisket). Not a very thick bark to it, but still a nice BBQ brisket. As with the ribs, seasoning was not prevalent. The Sausage: Although cooked well, I thought the sausage was fairly average. Just your run-of-the-mill pink casing sausage. Tasted nice, but nothing really amazing. The Sauce: I thought the sauce was pretty interesting, as it did have a bit of a kick to it. Not necessarily due to spice, but just the vinegar content makes it pretty tangy, which I liked. It would describe the color as rust-colored and had a very runny consistency. Overall I was very happy with my Bodacious visit. Very solid, no-frills joint; a place to stop in and quell your BBQ cravings. read more

This place appears to be popular with locals and I can see how it can have a good following. Alas, the BBQ just didn't match the hype. We ordered the ribs and the sliced beef (brisket). Let's start with the positives: the service was nice and the atmosphere was lively. The ribs were tender as well. But one of the staples of a BBQ establishment is the brisket. The brisket here had little to no fat at all and the meat was extremely dry. Although I try to avoid using BBQ sauce, it did little to help as it was thick, heavy, and overpowered the meat. Real rating is a 2.5 because of the ribs, but it's hard to round up with the brisket. read more

I grew up eating Bodacious. I've always loved it & have sworn they were the best BBQ on the planet for most of my life. So, it pains me to write this review. For the past few years the prices of Bodacious have gone higher & higher and the quality has gotten lower & lower. Last night was my final straw. My family won't go back. My fiance & I went in last night to place a to-go order. The restaurant had people in there but they werent busy for a Saturday night at 6:30. We placed our order and waited. About 10 minutes later they called for number 9. I was the only one waiting except for a man who had just sat down after placing his order. I was number 8. The girl kept looking at me so I said I'm number 8 - that's not mine. It was also only like a box or 2. Our order was large. She asked the other young girl behind the counter about the order & she told her it was mine. I went to the counter and explained what I'd ordered & told her that couldnt be mine. The girl turned to the other started laughing and said "oh no! I gave their order to that other lady that just left." She was laughing. Are you kidding me? The lady who had left before me had a toddler with her and that was going to be terrible for them. And she was laughing? I was still there so I knew my order could be remade. Rude!!! With the tickets having numbers - exactly how did they mess this up? Did they not check? Pretty big mistake considering our order was like $50 & hers was much smaller. So they remake our order. We get it and go to the car. They forgot one of our sides. My fiance goes back in. You have 2 girls working the counter and not one of them was doing their job. Not to mention, if you let your counter girls wear shorts - please make sure they cover their rear end. It's unprofessional and looks terrible. We get home & the food is cold and tastes bad. We also have a part of an order that wasnt ours. I just couldnt believe it. The ribs my son got were dry and almost inedible. A teenage boy wouldnt eat them, guys. My chopped beef sandwich wasnt good either and I didn't finish it. I have frequented this place for years with my family. Their BBQ is average, not great...but it's a good location. This week I went in with a friend for lunch and ordered a Mel-Man. I've eaten this here before and unlike the other Bodacious, they slice the sausage rather than chop it in with the brisket. So I asked the cashier to chop them both together. She said "we don't do that". After pause I said "you won't do what your customer just asked you to?" She said "yeah, we've just never done it like that." No prob. I like Bodacious but I've been to the one on the 281. They're very unfriendly there and the girls on the front are the only ones wearing a mask if that's what you can call it. One had it around her neck and the other one had it below her nose. Just makes you wonder how careful they are being. My point is why bother. Went to Bodacious for lunch. Man, this place sets the bar for BBQ, as far as I am concerned. I told my dad, "i'd kill someone if it'd help get a bodacious opened in San Jose" Delicious brisket. Falls apart on the plate, smoke ring like you would not believe. Friendly staff, wonderful folks, amazing AMAZING food. There is good bar-b-q in East Texas, but it is not here. Let me take out this here stamp of approval and *SMACK* put it all over this place. The sauce is smokey molasses tangy sweet and kept warm in a crock pot. The buns are white toasty warm and buttery. The brisket well its 5 stars alright and I'm usually more of a chopped beef kinda guy but their brisket slices are lean mean and irresistable. The restaurant is always clean and Scott Branch (the owner) knows how to serve up a heaping plate of tender beef that never leaves me dissapointed. Wow. This is a great BBQ joint. They were almost sold out when we arrived, but we managed to get some chopped brisket and ribs. Oh my, were the ribs good. The chopped brisket was also very good. The sauce was tangy and warm, and added just enough of that extra touch to the brisket. The beans were good but I didn't care for the mustard potato salad. We don't live in Longview, but came to Bodacious upon the recommendation of a friend. She didn't steer us wrong! My husband and I each got a chopped beef sandwich and a side, and shared a few ribs. With two drinks, we spent almost $30. A little pricey, but BBQ tends to be that way. The chopped beef sandwiches were HUGE. I would guess about 1/2 a pound of beef each. I honestly could not eat anything the rest of the day. The meat was not dry at all and had an excellent flavor. Love that they grill the buns, too! The rib meat literally fell off the bone. Beans weren't spicy like some joints do them and the coleslaw was more tangy than mayo-laden. The sauce warmer is a nice touch. We don't frequent BBQ restaurants much, but would pass it forward and recommend bodacious to a friend. Only taking off a star for price and and cleanliness. read more

I grew up eating Bodacious.... probably a hundred times. It's just where my family ate. This is also probably why I didn't like BBQ. With the exception of their turkey ( which is usually moist and flavorful), the meats here are just subpar. The sausage is bland, the ribs are just ok, and the brisket... what is supposed to be Texas' national meat... hasn't been good in 20 years. If anyone at Bodacious has ever ventured out and tried even a decent Central Texas BBQ joint, there's no way they could serve their brisket with a straight face. East Texans deserve better BBQ, and I hope they get it one day. read more

Well this was my first time trying out this BBQ place and at first I was iffy. But boy was it good. It's not too expensive and it's well worth your money. I eat a lot and had the three meat plate and couldn't finish it. I will definitely be eating here again next time I'm in town. read more

Tried Bodacious for the first time today, and I think I'm in love! I can see why the locals rave about this place. The barbecue is fantastic and the sauce is amazing! Tender, juicy, perfect. Also tried the baked beans, very good and well-seasoned. Didn't try the potato salad, though, because I heard it wasn't the best, but really--who goes to a BBQ joint for potato salad? I couldn't be more impressed. I'm definitely going to want to come back for more, I'm positive. read more
