Smoky and moist ; meaty , fall off the bone beef ribs and the brisket had the perfect burnt crust. (We didn't have sides as we're on keto diet and can't have any sugar, but I'm sure they're all amazing). All of the Bodacious places use the same sauce which is of course awesome, and the beans are essentially the same at all of them as well. BUT the original on Mobberly is the tops! The pitmaster there has true smokin' cred. That brisket is as tender and flavorful as any I've had ANYWHERE and I DO include Memphis, Kansas City, and all over Texas. PLUS he does a crawfish and brisket boudin on Wednesday's that, well, you just gotta try that! The sides are ALL so very good, from slaw to beans to oh bubba you HAVE to try the potato salad, with artichoke hearts mixed in along with a few other perfect accompaniments, Oh Man... The location is an old, small, wooden structure that looks like they probably had sawdust on the floor back when that was ok. Gates BBQ in KC is exceptional for pork ribs, there's places in Memphis I'd recommend too, but I won't say ANY of them are better, overall, than this Bodacious location, and NONE of them make brisket better. My wife has been Bodacious fan forever and I have been as well for the past 20 years but tonight was a disaster at this location. Apparently management has changed and not for the better. We Got the last overcooked ribs about a 1/2 hour before closing and had chopped brisket as there was no brisket to slice. That would be bad enough but sometimes it happens at a BBQ joint. The worst comes down to the sides and service. We have never only gotten a single side with a plate muck less one that was about three bites. We paid extra for two sides of potato salad we could t eat. Whoever decide to change the long-standing recipe is a moron. The service was horrible, gave us cups of ice which we assumed was for fountain drinks when in fact he overlooked giving us bottles. We felt rushed to eat as they obviously were more concerned with getting us, and likely themselves, on the road. Will never go to this location again. read more

But this location on Mobberly is off the charts better than all the others. I arrived at 10:45 in the morning and already there was a line. I had ribs and burnt end boudin. I have ever had better boudin anywhere. Ever! It was perfectly smoked and simply melted in my mouth. It's one of the items that are on a rotation of daily specials here. You must try it. I grew up in Longview, and when visiting in the past I have been chagrined about the lack of quality BBQ there. With regard to the new son-in-law pit-master, I was able to dine at Bodacious yesterday with great anticipation and expectations. I can conclude that the plaudits for the new, improved Bodacious on Mobberly are well deserved. Particularly the brisket I found well done. The meat had an incredible, tasty bark, fabulous smoke ring, and smoked to perfection. The ribs were good as well, however I find the brisket brings this joint to distinction. I would give this place 3.5 stars, but I'd rather be generous than stingy so it got 4. The brisket looked amazing as it was being cut and I was so ready to devour it, but it turned out to not be as tender and amazing as I expected. It was moist and properly cooked, for sure, but it didn't move me into a euphoric state of having just had a perfect bite of food. I was curious why it had made the top 10 brisket list in #txbbqpassport as I tucked it away to the side. The meat they use is responsibly raised, so that's a plus for them. Unexpectedly, the sausage stole the spotlight on the butcher paper. The sausage was bursting with juices and complex flavors. It was probably the best BBQ sausage I have had to date, but that doesn't say too much because ribs or brisket's usually the hero on my plate while sausage makes occasional guest appearances. In other words, I'm not a huge fan of sausages, but I'm a fan of Bodacious' sausage and, in my book, it definitely deserves its place in Texas Monthly's top 10 sausages. The staff was nice enough and the place is absolutely adorable. They have the cutest/funniest decorations. The price is a bit higher than others, but you pay for quality meat. Also, the onions had a strangely sharp bite that I did not like. But let's not end this review on a low note. Go to Bodacious and order some sausage. Wow, like I almost went back into the restaurant to tell them it was amazing and shake their hand. Up on par with Franklin or Evie Mae's. When I started this top 50 BBQ places in Texas journey and drove for 3.5 hours from Lubbock to Pecos to try Pody's only to find out that they changed their hours and it was closed, I thought to call ahead to check to make sure they are still open. When I called them, it rang to a voicemail, so I drove a bit worried it closed bc they were out, but pulled up and the parking lot was hidden by the building on the way up so figured they were closed, but wow was I happy when they weren't. I really wish that places that advertise they are open to a certain time unless they run out, would have a better way to tell you if they have meat or not. Walking up to order, I could see the brisket being cut and it couldn't look much better. As always tried the brisket and he asked if I wanted some burnt ends (thank you for asking- that's a real BBQ place type of question). Wow, good stuff. I only wish it wasn't so far away. There's good food, good barbecue and then there are game changers. The brisket at this place is a game changer. I've got friends who participate in national barbecue competitions who will tell you this is some of the best they've ever had. I've never been to a national BBQ competition but I'd stack this stuff up against all comers. I've had the sausage and it is good also. But the brisket is world class. I could try other things but then if I did that I would be missing an opportunity to have more brisket and we only have so many days on this overgrown parking lot we call planet Earth! Back in 1986 I went to LeTourneau University and across the street was the best bar-b-q I ever had in my life - I'm 53 now. Every year I can remember thinking back to their food as the mark of the best I could imagine pulled pork and brisket and ribs to be. Never has any place ever come close.
