I stopped into this cute bistro for a nice dinner this evening, and it did not disappoint. I dont have anything negative to say about the food at all. The arroncini was the highlight of our appetizer selection (stuffed with delicious melted cheese) but the baked goat cheese was also very satisfying. My basil gimlet cocktail was unique and seriously strong. I loved my tortellini, and my table mates seemed very happy with their pasta dishes as well. Our service was excellent. Our server allowed us to taste a few wines before landing on a nice barollo for dinner, and when she found out it was my friends birthday, she went out of her way to make it special with a complimentary dessert. The dining room is very beautiful and quirky. It has cute pasta themed photos all over the walls, and the tablescapes are super cute. Unfortunately, we had two bachelorette parties right next to us making tons of noise, but that's not the restaurants fault. I definitely looking forward to returning for another meal. read more

This is a great neighborhood spot for nice cocktails, classic Italian food with a little something extra, and....after my last visit....a nice little outdoor seating area! Most of my visits to Bocca have been for indoor seating, we order red wine and cocktails and sit in the dimly lit dining area surrounded by black, with touches of bright green from the live greenery that hangs down here and there from little planters. There's a little bit of daylight coming in through the side-walk facing windows depending on the time of day. The food is consistently great. Service is wonderful. We wrap up our meal, order dessert and my husband gets his decaf americano and we call it a night. Always pretty decent. But LAST NIGHT we went and actually decided to sit outside. It was warm but not sticky, and the patio (which we'd never tried since the property's Shoefly days) was nearly empty. After connecting w/the hostess inside and walking through the familiar dark interior and emerging into the bright, airy patio we knew we'd made the right choice. We'll call it comfortable-classy. Not overly pretentious or curated...lots of touches of black, but surrounded by green (grass, planters of herbs and veggies around the perimeter of the patio) and just the right level of music coming from tiny speakers tucked into the planters. We experienced the same excellent service outdoors as we have indoors. We were clear from the start of our meal that we were not in a rush. At one point our server was apologetic for not checking back in -- but to be honest we hadn't noticed. There were enough other folks who had popped by (to refill waters, clear an oyster plate, salad plates, bring fresh silverware, etc.) that we never felt unattended to. It was a Wednesday, so the wine was half price. We swapped our normal wine choices for a crisp, slightly bubbly red (lambruisco) and it was perfect. The wine sat in a chiller on our table and was such a nice contrast to the warm outdoor air. We shared everything -- the oysters which were cleanly shucked, the watermelon bruschetta with a touch of goat cheese and hot honey (I'll be making this one at home!), the chopped salad, the Della Casa (pasta with shrimp and lobster butter but surprisingly light), and a brown butter cake (housemade with fresh berries and a little dollap of gelato). Here's my favorite part: Our server overheard us deciding on the salad and I said to my husband "the only thing I don't love about the chopped salad is the salami -- you can have mine" and when she had the dishes split she requested from the kitchen that the salami only go on his plate. Seriously! :) We'll be back. In the cooler months we'll cozy up in the dark indoor spaces -- but in the warm months we'll definitely be back to that patio, and probably on a Wednesday for the half off wine again! ;) read more

10 stars for a lovely patio especially when the weather is perfect. We had a rare date night and I chose this place because I wanted pasta. I had it in my mind that they made their pasta from scratch but they do not. Both pasta dishes were missing a little something. The carbonara wasn't creamy, it was kind of dry. Maybe just a little more pasta water when they were assembling. The cavatappi in pesto was good after I added a ton of salt and pepper. The lemon revival cocktail was perfect. The mussels were steamed in beer and I don't know if I had ever had that before. I liked it! Dessert was also 10 stars! Tiramisu was so delicate and creamy and light. Cheesecake was an indulgence! Bocca is just lovely! Might be my new favorite Italian spot. The style of the food is a little less traditional, if that makes sense? And so FLAVORFUL! The restaurant has a really moody, cozy atmosphere. One of the first things I noticed was the inviting bar to the right. Will have to sit there next time. It's a good spot for dates and small groups. My husband and I opted for the Devour menu. Our server, Yessica, very helpfully walked us through all the options and recommended that we order different dishes for each course so we could try a little bit of everything. We started with cocktails. I LOVED my basil gimlet. It was very citrusy and came in the cutest glass. After that we switched to the Pinot noir, which was very good. They have a pretty big wine list with lots of by the glass, 9 oz, and bottle options. Next we went rouge and ordered the baked goat cheese appetizer (not on the Devour menu). But worth mentioning because it was the best thing we had!! I loved the addition of crispy bits of sausage, and you could really taste the fennel. And the bread was toasted perfectly. 10/10 For starters, we got arancini and tuna. Both solid, but the arancini takes the win here. For entrees we got the della casa and the mushroom lasagna. The lasagna was incredible and a pretty big portion. It paired very well with the wine. The della casa was spicy and seafood-forward, as advertised. Finally, for dessert we got the fried donuts and the sorbet (mango and raspberry). The sorbet was the perfect light ending to the meal. I probably wouldn't order the donuts again. The first time at this restaurant but not the location. It used to be our beloved Shoefly. From start to finish everything was amazing. I met with with a few girlfriends. We had a good chunk of what's on the menu and none of our items disappointed. From the calamari to the salad, lamb shank and deconstructed cheesecake, everything was delicious and I'll definitely be back with other friends and loved ones. Tried the old fashioned there because that's what I try at all restaurants. You won't be disappointed. After dinner and dessert we went downstairs to the speakeasy style lounge and got one drink and chilled the rest of our time there. I wasn't really feeling anything on the menu so I asked the mixologist to create a drink using bourbon and blood orange. We came here for Devour Indy and it was amazing. We started with cocktails, Manhattan and Classic Negroni, with the Calamari. The Calamari was very salty, but the dips it came with were really good. For our mains we had the Bistecca Tagliata and Della Casa, both were so delicious. We didn't have a lot of room for dessert, so we split the sorbet and an Espresso Martini. The interior was very pretty and intimate. The service was great as well! We noticed people kept going downstairs, but the bathrooms were upstairs. At the end of our meal we asked our waitress what was down there and to our surprise and excitement it was a speakeasy! We had two drinks down there, very cozy, and fabulous bartender. My husband and I went to Bocca for a soft opening last week and absolutely loved it! The food was delicious, the staff was friendly, attentive and helpful, and the atmosphere was trendy yet cozy. The portions are large, but even if you can't finish them you come away with the feeling that you had a great meal for the price. Another amazing restaurant in my neighborhood! Made reservations to come to this place. It's been on the list since they opened a couple months ago. It replaced what was Shoefly and what a great replacement it is! It's a total VIBE. As soon as you walk in it puts you in mind of another city, doesn't quite feel like Indianapolis. It is chill and just has a upscale but not bougie kinda feel. It's cozy and classy. The menu has enough choices not too many but enough where you can find something that you like. Our server also offered up some of her favorites which was helpful. There is bar seating but it isn't very big, I would say maybe 6 seats at the bar. They have a very expansive drink menu with some amazing cocktails. We tried a couple and weren't disappointed. We did not order dessert but they also looked good. After our meal, we decided to go downstairs. Now they don't really tell you about it because it's a speak easy so unless you know, you don't know! The vibe changed a bit down there. It is a true speakeasy where it is dark but the music is a bit louder and there are couches and chairs and seating at the bar. They have their own cocktail menu which is amazing. Things you won't see at other places. There seemed to be more of a younger crowd down there as opposed to upstairs but not annoying crowd, just younger. Some were playing cards, others just chatting. Everyone is very friendly talking to one another which is a change from other places where people don't mingle. This will be my new spot. After reading some good reviews, I had high expectations and was sadly disappointed. The restaurant itself was nice, but very loud. We split a Cesare salad, which was pretty good (and they even split it on two plates for us). For our main course we got the carbonara and the pollo chiantigiana. The carbonara didn't have much of a sauce and was fairly bland. The chicken was decent, but the side pasta tasted like jarred sauce. For dessert we tried the chocolate mousse, which was grainy. I love Italian food so I had to give this place a try. I'm so glad that I did! The minute we walked in we were greeted and I couldn't help but take in the cute but cozy vibes. This place is small, but fun fact they have a speakeasy in the basement! We decided to checkout the speakeasy and I was pleasantly surprised with how much seating there was. The bartender came over and quickly let us know that they serve the expanded menu as well! Now, let's get to my drink. I wanted a gin floral drink and that's exactly what I received. Now for the star of the show, the scallops. I was so surprised with how fresh and tender the scallops tasted and the risotto that came with it balanced it out so well. Located at 22nd and Talbot, across the street from Baby's (foreshadowing anyone), Bocca is in a great location. It's also the second restaurant in the space once occupied by Shoefly Public House, which means our expectations were fairly high. Once inside, visitors are greeted by a friendly hostess and an understated but warm aesthetic embrace that instantly feels welcoming, with a familiar dash of romantic sophistication. The staff are incredible and made us feel like we were in an osteria in Italy. The hospitality included Aperol frose treats, limoncello, and a tour of the downstairs speakeasy (open after 6 pm Thursday through Saturday). The food exceeded expectations all around. The bruschetta with diced watermelon, goat cheese, hot honey, and basil was a perfect start. From there, the arugula salad with fennel, truffle, oranges, olives, goat cheese, and pistachio dust was bright and a nice pallet cleanser. We shared fennel sausage orecchiette that sang and paired beautifully with the Tenuta Sette Ponti 'Oreno' Super Tuscan. Desert oozed opulence in the form of lightly fried donuts decorated with lemon curd and raspberry. Two espressos with raw sugar gave us the pep we needed to zip home. The husband and I were looking for a new restaurant for date night, and there are many new restaurants in Indy, but I had heard Bocca had something a little special, so I circled in on Bocca. Unfortunately by the time we made our pick, there weren't any tables open on Open Table, however we figured we would try our luck and head there anyway. What a great choice. When We walked in the tables were full, but we were able to grab seating at the bar. The bartender, a young lady, was AMAZING! She was on top of it as a server for those eating at the bar and the bartender for the restaurant. The ambiance of the restaurant is very sexy and intimate. We started off with drinks, me a fall sangria and him a bartender created drink. Both drinks were strong and amazing. For appetizers, we picked the mussels and the bread with goat cheese dip....Man I could just eat both and be full. Both were so flavorful, and the sauce from the mussels is worth an extra serving of bread. For dinner I picked a spicy pasta and shrimp dish that had a lobster butter. I loved my dish. It was flavorful, the pasta was PERFECT, and the sauce was plentiful. This place is excellent! We went for a birthday celebration. Table was ready. Everything was beautifully done. Only two small but not huge issues- it was a birthday celebration and no mention of the birthday. And when I was talking about the restaurant a friend asked about the speakeasy. I know they're "secret" but any type of marketing would seem appropriate (I hear there may be a great experience for your birthday downstairs) would have been great! The appetizers were amazing. Calamari and flat bread. The sauce was delicious but the calamari was seasoned perfectly and only complimented the texture. The flatbread, with the hot honey drizzle, was excellent. Both the Caesar and chopped salads were great (chopped was the favorite). We tried 4 entrees- all we spectacular. Most amazing was the Bacci (the honey chipotle cream is brilliant), followed by the Salsiccia (spicy fennel sausage is so good!), then the ricotta chicken (fantastic flavors) and the Della Casa (it was just ok- a bit plan despite the lobster butter and shrimp- the only dish I wouldn't get a second time). We also had drinks. The Aperol Spritz was yummy and beautiful. The pear margarita was superb! The rosemary sprig is an excellent touch! This is not a rushed dinner or an inexpensive one. Maybe my expectations were just too high. I love a fine dining restaurant experience and although the service was wonderful the food was overpriced and under delivered on quality. The eggplant pepper thing Caponata eggplant, caper, olive oil, tomato, garlic, bell pepper, grilled ciabatta, crudite $14... 3 sad pieces of toast, not fresh baked - no where near the quality of Amelia's - the roasted eggplants and peppers had little to no seasoning and then some random raw carrots & celery on the side. I wouldn't recommend this dish. The salad was the best thing of the night. Ceci Chopped romaine, sweet cherry tomatoes, provolone, salami, red onions, artichokes, crispy chickpeas, red wine vinaigrette $12 Salad was well dressed and veggies were fresh, it was heavy on raw rec onion though. Next a pasta dish. I was very surprised to hear they don't make their pasta fresh - so were looking at boxed pasta at a fine dining Italian restaurant. Carbonara spaghetti, local Smoking Goose bacon, egg, black pepper, parmesan $23 The portion was adequate for a pasta dish however just incredibly underwhelming. For $23 I was hoping for lucious carbonara with fresh shaved parmesean. The didh was missing salt and the parm was the basic bulk grated plastic bottle kind. Next we had an entree - Bistecca Chianti chef's cut steak, Chianti sauce, portobello mushrooms, smashed potatoes, seasonal vegetable -$35. The steak was huge, for $35 tells me it's not a good quality steak. The chianti sauce was good, mashed potatoes solid although missing butter & salt. Asparagus was cooked well and offered good portion of salt that was missing from the rest of the meal. We started with Old Fashions which were ok. The house Pinhook Bourbon is sharp due to its expedited processing - it's never my first choice. I went with a Rye, as the rest of the bourbon options were underwhelming (Jack Daniel's, Makers, Woodford...). It was good enough. The star of the night seemed to be the mussels which permeated the air of the intimate dining space. The bar also had a large TV with a bright blue light which was unavoidable & unpleasant, quite a disruptor to the expected cozy, intimate dining experience. I'm not sure I'd go back however maybe I'll go for a salad on the deck in the summer? read more

Wow wow wow, how has it taken me this long to try this place?! This is a cute little spot close to the fall creek area, offers street parking and a small little parking lot as well. They also offer outdoor seating. It's not a big place so recommend booking a ressy just in case. We went on a Thursday night and wasn't too busy but you never know! We started with the arancini and goat cheese appetizers - absolutely amazing. We all said we would just order another two rounds and just have those for dinner. The mains were just as delicious, our friend go the lamb and boy will I be getting that next time. Fall off the bone, so light and delicious. All the pasta dishes looked so good but I landed on the Bolognese and it did not disappoint, I would highly recommend. I wanted the Del Casa because our friends recommended it but will be trying next time! My husband got the chicken, it was good but probably wouldn't get again. Then we also go the Carbonerra which was amazing. The desserts...again, absolutely delicious. We had the cookie skillet (one dessert was complimentary because we had a birthday - thank you!) then we also got the donuts. If you've had the ricotta donuts from vida this are very similar just with a lemon twist and they were so delicious. We went to bocca like 4 or 5 times the first month it opened! We were OBSESSED! Their pasta and seafood options are so flavorful and we could help but continue to go back. The mussels and the goat cheese appetizer are our favorite starters and then the della casa is a crowd favorite every time we go for an entree. Also, they have desserts that round out the meal perfectly! And you can't forget the speakeasy bar downstairs! But we did go at the end of the day when they were almost closing. 5/5 Scallop Ceviche - I think this may be a new dish, it's not on the menu. They didn't have tuna ceviche, the usual on menu, and this was the alternative, and it was great. I don't normally like raw scallop, but scallop ceviche doesn't have the raw scallop sliminess, just the soft tender scallop texture. The sauce is tart, fizzy, and creamy with avocado. I loved it. My partner did feel like there is a tad too much crushed crostini crunchiness ratio wise, but you don't have to mix them all in like we did. 4.5/5 Della Baia - very saucy pasta. The mussels are plump, with a thought-out-broth as they change ever so often. The Della Casa is one of the best dishes on the menu. They have a nice carpaccio, for beginners. For appetizers, we opted for the calamari: (lemon aioli, marinara) bruschetta: (watermelon relish, goat cheese mousse) tuna Crudo: (vocado, red onion, cilantro, peppers, citrus vinaigrette, crostini crumble) and baked goat cheese: (spicy fennel sausage, house marinara, pesto, grilled ciabatta). The watermelon on the bruschetta was welcome and different! The goat cheese came with wonderful toasted crusty bread, simply wonderful flavor! I also shared a Caprese salad before the main plate. I chose the Scallops: (farro ragu, leek puree, crispy pancetta, saba) for $34. It was very good, and the scallops were soft and perfectly cooked. The dinner ended with a complimentary Tiramisu: (mascarpone, rum, cocoa, coffee) It was wonderful! I will be back to try more of their delicious takes on "Modern Italian." read more
