Just a decade ago, it seemed like Italian restaurants in Indy fell into three buckets -- oldschool family-style, big box chains, and far-too-fancy. Lately, there's been a boom in some classier, small-scale Italian places with inventive pastas and cocktails. Bocca fits this perfectly, and is my favorite of the bunch. For those of us who loved Shoefly, it can be a bit of a shock to walk into Bocca and see so much has changed -- including the location of the bar. But it's also a testament to the inventiveness and intentionality of Bocca that they've done so much with the space, and the new vibe is moody and cozy all at once. All of the pastas are phenomenal, but I'll particularly call out the pomodoro and the gnocchi. The old fashioned is one of the best I've had in Indy. By the way, there is more to see if you go downstairs. That's all I'll say on that. read more

So my friends & I decided to have a small girls' dinner to catch up but we wanted to try somewhere we've never been before. My friend suggested Bocca & I mean, how can you turn down Italian food! The atmosphere isn't your typical Italian restaurant vibe. It still had it but with more of a modern updated twist. There was a bar but we decided to sit in the dining area which was still just as nice. I would say it was good for parties of like six or less but not sure what space they had downstairs. I ordered the Italian Margarita & I must say I was actually impressed! I don't like sugary/sweet tasting drinks that much & was so happy when this had that subtle margarita taste that wasn't overbearing. Simple but cute presentation. I also ordered the Chopped Salad & the Mushroom Lasagna & omg they were both amazing! Perfect proportions & amazing taste!! We also didn't have to wait long for dinner or drinks & had a great server. Dinner at Bocca was a wonderful experience. We made a reservation via OpenTable several days prior for a Saturday night. We were glad we did, as they did not have many times available. We sat outside, as it was a beautiful night. The outdoor area is very fun, comfortable and trendy. The food was delicious! I ordered a bourbon cocktail that I really enjoyed. We were tempted to order one of the appetizers on special, but ultimately decided on the Arancini. It came with three pieces and was very flavorful and tasty. For the main course, we split the salsiccia and the carbonara, since I could not decide on one! I was glad to try both because it was a perfect combination of flavors. I would certainly recommend both. We were celebrating my birthday, so they offered me a free dessert and Limoncello,. I chose the warm cookie and vanilla gelato for the dessert. It was very tasty. Bocca is a new restaurant that has opened up late 2021 in the previous Shoefly space, for those familiar with the neighborhood. Bocca has a modern Italian style menu while its sister restaurant Ambrosia is traditional Italian. While it is listed as casual, the prices don't necessarily reflect that. Dishes are in the $20-$30 range. We came here on the last day of Devour Indy to see the space and try some good food. The Devour menu was three courses for $45 per person. Yessica was our server and did a great job of walking through the menu with us and sharing information about the restaurant. -Drinks: House Spritz was light and refreshing. The Italian Paloma is more on the sweeter side than bitter side which some may prefer. -Antipasti: The arancini is a must. We also got the Ceci salad. I don't usually go for salads but I could eat a full plate of this. -Entree: Della Casa was recommended by our server and for good reason. If you're intimidated by the spicy language, don't be, it is very balanced. The Bistecca Taligata was tasty but I do wish the steak had a bit more sear/flavor. -Dessert: I am seriously in love with this Tiramisu. It came with a side scoop of coffee gelato (I believe) with some type of cake crumbs - all together was amazing. The Bombolini is a fried donut with lemon custard, and it also sits in a raspberry sauce (not listed). My boyfriend really loved this over the tiramisu, while I could have done without the donuts. What else? There is a "speakeasy" in the basement that is open Thursday-Saturday 6pm-1am. I can't wait to come for drinks and check this out. read more

I am so excited for Bocca to join the downtown community!! Yesterday I got to try it out for the first time and I was truly blown away by the entire experience. Our server was super knowledgeable and made some awesome suggestions which we LOVED. The pasta was seriously incredible and the cocktails were perfect. One of the best restaurants in Indy! I noticed Bocca recently when I was in Fall Creek Place and knew I had to stop in to check it out. I was NOT disappointed!! It has a big city feel in terms of quality while still being in a quiet, safe neighborhood. As if the location and ambiance weren't enough, the food and drinks were to die for. We liked our first appetizer so much that we decided to order two, and then devoured our entrees and had to get dessert. All courses were phenomenal, I don't think there is a bad dish on the menu. I don't recommend splitting the caesar salad, we split it between two people and it was so good that we wish we got our own! The baked goat cheese was also UNREAL. Had a lovely time here last night! We started with the mussels and the broth they are in is delicious. It was a huge appetizer so definitely would be good for larger groups too! For my entree I ordered the Della Baia and it did not disappoint! The seafood was prepared perfectly and the sausage added the perfect amount of spice. My date had the Ravioli and it was delicious too but a little too rich for me. My Manhattan was on point as well. What an amazing Italian Restaurant on the near north side of Indianapolis. A small hidden little gem absolutely! I love my lasagna and Bocca did not disappoint. I have found my new favorite location for beef lasagna. They rotate the offering via different seasons I was told so me being there and having the option to try it I could not pass up. Wow! A great new restaurant in the former Shoefly building. I saw this place was new and decided to give it a try. Pulling up, it was hard to tell if they were open. The windows have privacy film on them but I noticed the lights shining through. I opened the door and was surprised how nice it was inside! Only the second day open, but they seem to have it dialed in very well. Service was fast, professional, and pleasant. Food was great excellent and equal care put in to presentation as the taste. Bruschetta with plum sauce was delicious. The mushroom lasagna was excellent. Definitely earned the five stars and I'll be back! read more

My husband and I had wanted to try Bocca for a while now, and we happened to snag a bar table on a Saturday evening by calling on our way there. I would definitely recommend placing a reservation in advance though because every table was filled the entire time we were there. We loved Shoefly that used to inhabit this spot, and wanted to check out how the place has been transformed. The ambiance was spot on - intimate without feeling stuffy. We ordered drinks (dirty martini for me and bourbon cocktail for my husband), along with calamari as an appetizer. Our drinks and app came out in a timely manner due to the efficient staff. For our entrees, I ordered the Bosco Mare, which was delicious. My husband got the Salsiccia, which he loved (I tried a bite of his pasta without meat and it tasted great). We were both stuffed by the time we were finished, so no dessert this time. It is a little pricey, but we would love to come back for special occasions and to visit the speakeasy downstairs. read more

What a great addition to the neighborhood! I can already tell Bocca will be a new favorite Italian spot of mine. First, Bocca takes reservations and I highly suggest calling ahead early as they fill up fast right now. Parking is easy ands free either on the street or the parking lot next door. The interior is modern meats sophisticated and it is a wonderful atmosphere! The service was top notch and very attentive. We went for dinner starting with drinks - aperol spritz. So refreshing! We ordered risotto balls and the bruschetta which were flavorful but what hit it out of the park is their pastas! The spices and intentional pairings are incredible. The only flavor came from the bacon. My salmon was fine but missing any seasoning. Rest In Peace risotto. It should have never made my plate as it was a flavorless paste. These cheesecake dessert was good but we hardly had any of the strawberry mousse. Maybe a grapes worth total. I loved the restaurant that preceeded Bocca in this spot, so it was going to take some convincing on their end to make me like it the same, but they have done a great job. Admittedly, I do like Ambrosia, their sister restaurant, so it was not going to be a stretch for me to like Bocca. The staff was very accommodating and kind enough to sit us away from the main area. And the food was absolutely extraordinary and we had with the mocktales of the non-alcoholic cocktail menu. The Caesar salad was extraordinarily, very light and lemony. We all enjoyed it. The lime and cherry mocktails were a hit. Everybody tried my "drinking vinegar" drink, and everybody liked it. I thought it had a strong bitter, earthy, yet refreshing flavor that I didn't expect the kids to enjoy but I'm glad they tried it.
