All of the specialties are originally Arab, of course, but Israeli spins on the standard Arab favorite street foods are slightly different. Because Boca Grill is Glatt Kosher, it follows the Orthodox Jewish calendar of days and hours open, and all of the Jewish dietary laws to the satisfaction of even the most observant. My guess is that most of Boca Grill's diners come for the Israeli food and ambiance. And these are perfect. I have visited twice now and will continue to frequent. I am far from Jewish and I do not hold a kosher kitchen at all. However the food is absolutely amazing and tastes extremely fresh. If you are expecting service that is driven by detail and speed, this probably not the place for you. It is very family oriented and has somewhat of a laid back atmosphere. You do have multiple people working one table, they all work together. However everyone is extremely nice and welcoming to ALL people. The prices vary depending on what you order. I am willing to pay more for quality and fresh tasting food. I leave feeling extremely satisfied and good. Portions are huge. It can be disOrganized and hectic at busy times. If you would like to enter into pure restaurant management mayhem, I highly recommend going to this chaotic establishment where you will be ignored and somehow equally annoy the staff by doing any of the following: 1. Ordering Food- this is a big "nono" at this restaurant. The better option may be to go behind the counter and get the food yourself. Otherwise you'll find yourself like me and my mom, stressed out, desperately trying to find a waitress who wouldn't purposely ignore us when we tried to order food. 2. Don't ask for anything- Each time they serve their customers the staff "forgets" to serve the pita bread that comes with most meals. If you would like to further upset the staff I highly recommend asking for the two measly slices of pita that you hope to eat with your hummus. Oh by the way, no you cannot have a glass of water! 3. Pay when you are ready to leave- We waited nearly 20 minutes trying to get somebody to take our money so we could leave. Finally a women came up to my mom and grabbed her credit card out of her hand by saying "Give me that!" I will DEFINITELY coming back if I'm in the area again. It's a very small, subtle looking middle eastern type of restaurant but it was delicious! I got the Shwarma salad, which comes with up to 4 salads you can pick from a whole bunch. Every salad was good, I particularly liked the eggplant salad and the purple cabbage. This was the worst restaurant dining experience that I can remember. There was nothing to recommend it. The wait staff attitude was curt and unfriendly, as if they resented having to work. (I got the impression that they were related to the owner.) When I asked for water I was told that I had to buy bottled water as the tap water was warm and would not be served with ice. The food was bland and tasteless. Service was slow and prices high. That the cleanliness was marginally acceptable is the only positive thing I can say about the experience. The food is nothing special and the prices are on the high side for a hole on the wall. The place is run in a chaotic fashion. Depending on who you are you can place your order with the single person taking orders or if you are a regular you can just walk up an order with the cook. No one wears masks especially the busboy who was in a rush to take a garbage and get in our faces with no mask. Had the Jerusalem mix with pita and a side of fries. We were promptly greeted and seated. The young man helped us with looking over the menu. The food came out relatively fast and was very fresh and delicious(tasted kosher). The serving size was enough for two ppl so the price per serving is right on point. SO disappointed. Ordered a soup for myself and a hamburger for my husband. Thirty minutes after I've finished my soup, still waiting for the burger. Server, manager talking to cook. Order was not put in. Two burgers cooking on grill. Server told cook to give first one to my husband. My husband reminded server that he did not want tomatoes. Sever said it "would just be a few seconds". Sure enough, in about a minute, a burger without tomatoes is ready. The Manager takes it, walks right by our table and gives it to another table. Eh! My overall review is just Ok! But who wants just OK? Let's start out with he food. The food is good, a solid 3.5 out of 5. Where they lose it is in two places. One, the service was less than OK. The second was, value for the money! For what we ate and the service received, it's definitely over priced. I don't mind paying for food food. Being a life long Peter Lugers fan, I'm ok with it. But here... not so much. They're running a team service model, which is good. But when one of the servers is good and the other is lost in the sauce, it brings down the whole experience. Couple that with the owner literally hovering over my table like an albatross around my neck, they have solidified the chances of me never returning. Not kidding about the server being lost! We asked for a couple of items you know, difficult things like, the drinks we ordered, a cup with ice, water and condiments. The second server literally brought over one item at a time, every time asking us, what else is it that you wanted? Write it down man! I could see if we asked for difficult things or sent the food back, but nope. Literally the things I just mentioned! Finally, after 4 trips (not exaggerating) he almost got it all... fortunately I saw our original server and asked him for the rest! He made it in one trip! Now, the value! We had a burger, falafel, Schwarma and a chicken pita. No dinners with sides, all sandwiches on a bun or pita. The place is a luncheonette style place that serves on plastic plates. The bill was $78!!! Not worth the money at all! But the food was good, just not worth it. Finally, out check comes. I read it, put my credit card in the book sticking up and waited. No one took it for a few minutes. Beside, I was still eating. The owner was hovering!!! He had a few people waiting at the door. But first I was still eating and second the waiter did not take my check yet! So please guy... back off!!! We stopped here thinking we'd grab a quick lunch. Big mistake. It took literally 30 minutes for them to make us two sandwiches, as our kid got crankier and hungrier. We specifically asked them to leave off a topping we don't like. They put it on anyway, and it was oozing all over the falafel. We asked for fresh pitas b/c we really didn't want to wait for new sandwiches, and they actually fought us on it and tried to charge us even though they messed up the order. The main cook wasn't wearing a mask and all the tables are crammed together; I guess they really want to spread Covid? I then recalled that the last time I had been there to pick up a take out order, they took 15 minutes longer than they had told me it would take on the phone. What a disappointment this place was! Absolutely trash! Went with a friend and we ordered the 'pargiot': young chicken platter. Off the top they charge you for every little thing that should normally be free on the side. The chicken on the platter was small and very few pieces. I asked the waiter to re-fill the pita basket twice and nothing. Right when we finish the meal he decides it's the right time for the pitas. I payed over $30 with tip for something half the price in pita plus or Levys. Plus those places give you way more meat on the plate. What a joke this place is. Never again. read more
