This place is probably violating all health codes. The most gross, grittiest food establishment I've been to my whole life. I'm not sure how people eat here and I hope k didn't get food poisoned but honestly I wouldn't be surprised if I did. All the counters and the entire floor is STICKY due to not not being cleaned in ages, flies all over the place, nasty nasty smell of cockroaches as soon as you sit down. I ate here only because I was driving from Miami and needed to eat. But omg. What a gross place. The food was just as bad too, they have a very basic menu that is not what's show here on yelp too. read more

The food was awesome! We had the fried fish with grits and collard greens and the shrimp tacos with squash, fried okra, and a biscuit. EVERYTHING was delicious! We are going to be in Mobile for a few days and I just want to eat here for every meal! There are so many other dishes I want to try. My husband said it was the best fried fish he ever had! He usually likes to dip his fish in tartar sauce, but said he didn't need to because the flavor was so great! We arrived a little after 11am on a Wednesday and were able to get a seat at the bar right away. The restaurant only has bar and counter seating. Our waiter was great also! The prices were great for the quality and quantity of food! We were very satisfied!! read more

Oh my goodness why haven't we came here sooner. I've heard about this little gem for sometime from a friend. We were actually heading somewhere else and decided to try something new. Absolutely glad we did and will definitely be coming back for breakfast! I can see why they won a Nappie award. read more

Great food and quick service we will return and bring the fur babies for sidewalk dining.

Have been wanting to try Bob's for a while since there is always a crowd, figured food must be good. Was a little disappointed overall. Not crazy about sharing my meal with flies, but I also know it's Mobile in the summer. I ordered two eggs scrambled, biscuit and bacon. Bacon was great, everything else so so. The biscuit was hard and cold. Grits needed a spoon, not a fork. No spoon offered. Husband had biscuits and gravy, not impressed. Granddaughter had pancakes, said they tasted funny. read more

First visit and we had gumbo, wedge sala, fish tacos and a Bloody Mary. the only thing not excellent was the gumbo. Must have been low on it because it was sorta overcooked, muddy looking and not much seafood. Oh well, I'll can make my own better than that. The service was very good, the drink good, the fries were 10/10, the tacos were very tasty. I would go back for sure, and skip the gumbo ha ha... read more

Do not let the exterior fool you. This place is amazing. I had the biscuits and gravy and home fries. Wish I would've took a picture of it, but I ate it too Fast The biscuits were awesome. The gravy was very complementary to the biscuits will be back again when I'm in the area read more

We have gone to Bob's for breakfast for many years. The last time we were there a couple of weeks ago it was an hour to get our breakfast. They have added some tables on the street side and maybe their kitchen can't keep up with the orders. As much as we loved Bob's in the past, we are taking a break because of the service. read more

Classic small town type of dinner with a good staff. Food is cheap and fresh. Usually busy. Great pit stop for weekend day drinking.

The food is decent. The service is terrible. My sister and I were not checked up on at all by our server, an older woman with short pink hair named Sue Ellen. We had to call for the check. This service from this server was extremely bad compared to the treatment those to our left received as they were at least checked up on a few times. read more

Went her upon recommendation from a friend. Upon walking up to the restaurant, we were greeted with warm welcoming from one of the staff members. She invited us right in. We could sit wherever we would like and we choose to sit inside. Great service among the staff and the food was wonderful as well. I had the French toast, eggs and bacon. It was delicious. The sweet cream that add to the top of the French toast tastes great!! Cannot wait to return. read more

This little bar looking restaurant is SO GOOD! All the seats are at the bar or at the windows. All the seats are high stool chairs. They serve beer and mimosas all day, even first thing in the morning. The atmosphere is bar, money on the wall, friendly, and like something out of a movie. The waitresses are great. They were very friendly, knew how to serve and that is just how it should be. It's a very small (hole in the wall) restaurant and bar but the food is fresh, homemade, and delicious. The unique artwork on the outside makes this place stand out. I love it. read more

Bobs Downtown Restaurant - New American Near Me - Mobile, Alabama

While visiting Mobile we had lunch at Bob's. Free on street parking is very limited in the area but there is a parking lot, paid, directly across the street. Inside space is limited counter, seating only. We have a greasy spoon back home with the same seating and we love the place but as the day was a good temperature, we elected to grab an outdoor table. Tables were a mixed bag of two different styles. Wait staff came our with some regularity but always seemed surprised to see people sitting at tables. Don't misunderstand, I'm not saying they weren't coming out but maybe its more of a southern timetable. Staff was friendly and helpful. Took our order and the food came out in a reasonable time frame. Food was good and portions were also good. Food presentation was also good. We read in other reviews that musician often appear but that didn't happed at our lunch. I suspect more towards Mardi Grais time. Although this is a little place is little it would be a good place to grab lunch. The extra cost for parking may be a consideration for some but for us it was just part of the experience. Enjoyed our lunch at Bob's. read more

I probably eat at Bob's at least once a week. It's super close to my apartment, very affordable, food is phenomenal and the staff is friendly and sometimes a tad sassy! Bobs is located on the corner of St Francis and Jackson street and doesn't have a parking lot of any kind on site, unless you rode a bike. There is plenty of street parking, and a pay lot across Jackson street if you need to park your car. The first thing you notice is the size, it's not super big sporting about 50 stool high bar seats and maybe 6 tables outdoors it doesn't have a ton of room. That being said it's never been overly noisy and I have really never had to wait for somewhere to sit! The ac blows cold and there seems to be a dollar bill signed by everyone in Mobile up on the wall! The coffee is really good, why I'm not entirely sure cause it's cheap, but I really enjoy it. Plus the mugs all say something funny about Bobs or Mobile or whatever the situation happens to involve. The breakfast sandwich is absolutely my favorite, served with scrambled eggs, bacon, and cheese it's huge and comes with some fruit for like 5 bucks. Another huge selling point is the food comes out super quick, however never a rush to leave! The beer and full bar round out alcohol options as well as milk, juice, tea, coke products etc. The waitresses have always been awesome and you will meet all the locals in there. It's the local downtown place to have breakfast and meet up with friends and neighbors. When I say it has regulars it has serious regulars! I really have absolutely nothing I could recommend to make it better or say to improve than this, stay open later! read more

This place is awesome. Very friendly and accommodating. Had just finished visiting family in Gulf Shores on vacation & went to the USS Alabama in Mobile. Preparing for our long drive back to Missouri, We wanted to eat and give our dogs some fresh air. I called several restaurants. Many places did have outdoor seating, but none that would accommodate our fur babies. Ready to give up, I called Bob's Downtown Restaurant, which was last on my list of places to call, I asked if they had outside seating. Yes. I said ok, great and do you allow dogs? Who I talked to said "Well, yes, of course we do". Like it was the strangest question. Lol Food was amazing...Service was awesome. They brought out a huge bowl of ice water for our pups. I would definitely recommend this place!!! read more

It's ok, but just ok. My $14 breakfast was not worth it; eggs ok, bacon good, sausage tiny, grits very plain, potatoes bad and my toast was one piece, who gives one piece of toast! My wife then ordered one pancake, coffee and glass of milk, TOTAL=$27, Really! It's ok, but just ok. read more

deserves to be a larger restaurant staff are really nice and one of the best breakfast places I've ever been to

Great service for starters! Expansive menu for breakfast combinations and quirks. My kids found stuff to order they enjoyed and so did the adults in my party. We enjoyed the outside air and sunshine, just a block up from a busier street, it didn't have much traffic. Also, their mimosas were to die for!! The food was good and had good portion size. We found this establishment to be a family friendly fun place to stop and grab a bite. read more

We stumbled upon this little gem because Mobile PD had parts of Dauphin blocked off for a marathon. Lucky us! During our detour, we passed Bob's and I remembered seeing Downtown Mobile Alliance post a pic of the gumbo on Instagram, so we decided to park across the street and give it a try. We kinda loved this quaint little place from the minute we walked in the door. There are no tables, just long bars that go around the restaurant. There's a tv, lots of windows and a very friendly waitress and cook. We started with the fried green tomatoes and they did not disappoint. The hubs and I ordered fish and shrimp baskets and Spencer had the gumbo. I swear, that boy eats enough gumbo that he should be able to speak Cajun fluently. It was made with tomatoes and okra in it, and he's really not used to gumbo with tomatoes, but he liked it. All of the seafood is fresh and local. The hush puppies (quiet doggies, as I called them as a child) were made from scratch and good enough to make you want to slap your husband. I couldn't help but notice they also had a good selection of burgers and hot dogs on their menu. In fact, this business started from a hot dog cart, which they still operate. Our total bill was around $40, which is pretty good for us. The service can't be beat. We will definitely go back. If you're in the area and hungry, it's a good casual place to grab a bite to eat. read more

The Fried Butterflied Shrimp was gross - my worst takeout order of 2015! I ordered the 12 butterflied shrimp basket for pick up and got 12 small peeled but not deveined shrimp just slightly larger than a quarter. I called and spoke to Ashley who took the order and I explained that I ordered butterflied shrimp because I do not eat shrimp that had not been deveined. She said they'll replace the order and we must pick up before they close at 3pm. I had the replacement order picked up for me and I was not expecting what I saw. 12 butterflied shrimp with THE DIRT VEINS STILL ATTACHED and fried. GROSS! I WILL NEVER ORDER FROM BOB'S AGAIN! read more
