However, after eating here, I can't recommend Bobo's enough. The place is small and no frills, so if you're looking for a "dining experience," this may not be your place. But if you're looking for a place that is friendly, intimate, and filled with locals (and that is ALWAYS a good sign) this is the place to eat. When you occasionally leave the great state of California, you usually come to the quick conclusion - you're getting ripped living in Cali. Gas prices are higher than the rest of the country. Baby back ribs in Texas are the size of beef ribs vs Cali's baby back ribs actually looking like babies. Breakfast sausage in Michigan are fatter than your big toe vs Cali's which are the size of six year old's pinky finger. Which brings me to Bobo's. During a visit to Tucson, I ended up here for breakfast. My son, a UA student athlete, kept warning me that eating here would be a culture shock to my system - and my stomach. But he didn't mean that in a bad way. So the following morning he and I ended up at Bobo's. The funny part - to me is I actually know someone named Bobo who just retired a few months earlier than my visit. He's a big eater, so naturally the jokes about "finding him" came fast and furious. Bobo's is small. Let's get that out of the way first. It's very small, but you still have ample elbow room to eat your food. That's important. Second, it was crowded, but the service is quick and the portions... well those portions are relatively huge. The pancakes are like nothing I had ever seen. They were huge - maybe humongous is more appropriate, but here's the kicker. This was, by far, the first time I ever ate pancakes that didn't need any syrup. None. That may not be a shocker to the rest of the country, but damn, it was to me. Even being as big as they were, they were still light and very tasty. The other half of my breakfast was basic bacon, eggs, hash-browns (rather potatoes). They were good, but the pancakes were the show stopper. I'm not even going to say another thing about them. Bobo's is one of my favorite diners to go for breakfast/brunch in Tucson. I've been here a couple of times and keep coming back. I really like the 2 eggs, home fries, and toast with a side of sausage; it's my usual to-go-to meals at diners. I've had the sausage-and-gravy with biscuits, which was recommended by a regular, which I thought was decent. However, my favorite was their chocolate chip pancakes. I was told they were huge, and I wasn't expecting bigger-than-my-head huge! One pancake is big enough for a meal. And, they don't overcook their eggs. Many places never get over easy right, and tend to make it over medium, or even medium-hard! So, thank you for consistently cooking my eggs to my liking. The service is really good and quick with refilling coffee. Definitely a great place to go to, and I come here once or twice when I'm in Tucson! read more

Was able to get right in @ 6 am after dropping my son off to leave for the bowl game with Pride of Arizona marching band. Waitress was very friendly and made sure my drink was full and that my food was okay. I enjoyed the bacon omelet special with wheat toast and orange juice. Cooked exactly how I asked (over easy, bacon soft). Great diner-grade coffee. Nothing pretentious. The staff is great and the atmosphere friendly. The grandson had the ham & cheese omelette that he gives a . Looked excellent and loaded the plate. Not hard to find, plenty of parking. I gave it 5 stars coz it is what it is. It doesn't pretend to be Chez Volew or the latest en vogue joint; just a simple relaxing and clean diner with its mission to please their customers. Can't ask for more than that. Tried to have breakfast with my wife and daughter this morning at Bobo's. We entered and there was a party of two waiting for a table inside the door. The waitress told me to put my name on a paper and how many we had so I did. While standing next to the pair waiting the waitress came back and asked if I put my name down and then told me we would need to wait outside until she had a table ready. Apparently this was the second time she told me because she said louder to another person "just ignore me, I guess I'll just talk to myself" as I turned around. The other couple waiting were not told to stand outside. It was cold and windy so I was not going to have my wife and daughter standing outside. Ode to Bobo's Thirty plus years in Tucson and I just can't Believe I've not visited Bobo's on Grant. But we were hungry for lunch yesterday afternoon And my L suggested this amazing little greasy spoon. A waiting line outside the door, surely a good sign. The secret these people know will soon also be mine. Within a few minutes Dave Chapelle's twin called us inside A super friendly man that really does resemble him, I've not lied. Everyone at Bobo's is neighborly and the service is fast A good first impression that surely will last. L had the eggs, bacon, home fries and chicken fried steak He had to box up his leftovers so his full belly wouldn't ache. Why home fries like that aren't offered at other establishments is a mystery to me Probably smart on Bobo's part since they are surely one of their delicious specialties. My friend had heard about this place, so we drove over around 12:45 for a brunch. They had lunch options, but many of them had meat (except for the grilled cheese). We both ordered from the breakfast side; I got French toast, and egg and sourdough bread toast. Loved the French toast, had a cinnamon roll flavor. Very busy restaurant, seems to be popular among college students and the young adult crowd in Tucson. Their tables were pretty cool, they had business cards engraved into them and had a sign saying they were redoing the tables, if anyone wanted to promote their own business. These folks have a ridiculously inexpensive menu. $1.50 for their early bird breakfast, weekdays before 8am, will get you two eggs/hash potatoes (the real stuff w/ skin!)/toast. If you can't possibly roll out of bed that early then you'll have to fork over a whole extra dollar. Whew. Might as well order a huge plate-sized banana pancake while you're at it. Fresh slices of banana with the browned cinnamon sugar is delectable. And you only need to dig out $3.50 in change from your ash tray. I couldn't eat it all but had to try it. This is a hole in the wall place, nothing fancy, with old fashioned bar stools along the counter. Brings me back warm memories of eating breakfast with my grandpa back in the day. The waitresses have a good time. We caught them dancing a little jig. Oh yeah if you wear your Bobos shirt you get a free fountain drink, I think. The must order items on the menu on the are the banana pancakes and biscuits and gravy. Banana pancakes - a cinnamon banana fried pancakes that look a lot different than other ones that I've had. The cinnamon taste definitely powers this dish. It's HUGE! It's also probably the best I've ever had. I was very surprised after the first bite. I didn't even use any syrup. Buscuits and gravy.. It's a small, casual, old diner that always has a wait. Even during weekdays, people pile up outside. My fiancee absolutely loved his huge tasty perfectly cooked banana pancake, and enjoyed his sausages, bacon, and eggs. I ordered the Bobo's veggie omelet which sounded good with spinach, mushrooms, bell peppers etc, but right away felt the omelet was overstuffed with sour cream. I thought it would be dolloped on the outside, but it was hard to remove since it was saturated inside. I was then sick for the rest of the weekend, details I'll spare readers. I've never had this reaction to any other restaurant in Tucson. I'm not sure if the sour cream was rotten but I definitely won't be back. Bobos has really good breakfast!! Honestly my husband prefers my breakfast but I like to go out and not cook it every once in a while. So everytime we go to bobos I always get the chicken fried steak & my husband gets the 1 banana pancake, 2 eggs, sausage and bacon, & home fries. And that is enough food for both of us and our two daughters. The banana pancake is huge and so delicious w/ a crunchy caramel that forms from the sugar and cinnamon they sprinkle on top!! I'm the green eggs and ham guy. I can eat them here or there, in a house, with a mouse, you get the idea. Enter Bobos. If I can eat them anywhere, I definitely can eat them here. Don't be intimidated by the homey looks of this Tucson institution, or the tables and booths shoe horned next to each other. Look past that, and feast your eyes on the best breakfast you can have here or there, in a boat, in a moat, etc... Pancakes spilling over the plates. Hash browns cooked to my liking - burned crispy on the outside and soft inside. Biscuits and gravy with chicken fried steak to...oh well...I'm hungry again. We've driven by Bobo's many times and have never stopped because there was always a line out the door. The reviews were good, so we thought we would try today. Walking in, I was caught off guard by how hot it was inside. It is a small place and there's no way the air conditioning could keep up to cool things down. I can take the heat, but if you can't, that's definitely something to think about. We got there around 11:30 and our intention was to order lunch. Looking around, most were eating breakfast and it looked rather basic except for a few that had pancakes and they looked great. I ordered an open face roast beef sandwich that came with mashed potato's and a vegetable. When it came, I knew by looking at it that it was going to be bad. The peas were from a can, and the beef that was not covered with gelatinous brown gravy looked dry and tough. I took one bite and it tasted as bad as it looked. The beef had a weird taste like it had been in the refrigerator awhile and the texture was like shoe leather. I ate a few bites of the mashed potato's (they were not too bad) and some of the bland canned peas and that's all I could get down. It was one of the worst meals I've had in a restaurant. My husband ordered the chicken fried chicken that came with the same sides. His wasn't as bad as mine, but he thought it was way below average. At the end of the meal, we agreed that the staff was nice and did a good job, but we would not go back and wouldn't recommend it. read more

Bobo's is one of my favorite breakfast places in Tucson. I would give it 5 stars for the food, but the atmosphere is more like 2 or 3 stars. The restaurant is really small and old and because the kitchen is in the same area as all the tables it can get hot. It's also extremely loud. However, the food makes up for it!! It has a home cooked meal type of feel to it, and the portions are huge (especially the pancakes). The huevos rancheros are really good, although they're not prepared the typical way, but they're still amazing! The pancakes (particularly the banana pancakes) are some of the best pancakes I've ever had! And this is coming from someone who doesn't usually like pancakes. This is a better version of The Waffle House, much better. The atmosphere isn't the greatest but what you get is a home cooked breakfast you'd get at moms. There was a 30 minute wait when we got there on a Sunday, that's always a good sign whenever you see people lined up outside a little run down joint. So about the food...I ordered the chicken fried steak, it came with eggs, toast and potatoes. I like the way they cook their potatoes, by the way, mmmmm! But let's talk about that banana pancake though! Considering I'm a sweet tooth, I really enjoy a good tasting pastry to go along with my morning cup of coffee. It was like a banana flavored cinnamon roll but not short and round, it was a large and in charge pancake! It was really lovely, I'd recommend that to fellow sweet tooths . Ok, so all of that came out pretty fast considering the place was packed, the employees were friendly and on top of their game. I love Arizona! Of course I have only visited Surprise in June, and I was eating here at Bobo's in November. So I don't think I got a good sense of the weather. This is an amazing breakfast joint. I liken it to growing up with parents that cooked you eggs and bacon. Come here and it's like your family made you breakfast. The best part of Bobo's is a tiny observation: how they do toast. I was accidentally given someone else's rye toast, and it was perfectly buttered. You know most places that butter your toast barely put any on? Not Bobo's, they slather those slices with salted butter, and get this, it's still warm! I was in heaven. The girl who actually ordered the toast? Not so much. We tried asking around! I guess she didn't hear us. I try to stay away from chains. This way you get better service. By the time I left, the parking lot for Bobo's was completely packed! It is a tiny space so I recommend you get your breakfast early before the rush. If you have to sit in the middle of the restaurant, there's nowhere to put your purse down, so I had to balance mine on top of my feet. Either way, the breakfast is worth it. Enjoy! read more

Breakfast at Bobo's. What a nice way to start the day. This is a real diner experience and the place was packed but the service was fast and friendly. Our server endeared herself to us by taking her apron and wiping out table clean just before taking our order. Never seen anyone do that before! My cheese omelette was tasty and done just the way I like it. It came with potatoes and toast rounded off with a fine cup of Joe. It would have been a bit more comfortable to have gotten a booth as the floor tables are packed in tight. But, that's the way it goes when everyone is wanting to grab a delicious breakfast at an extremely fair price.
