When I drove by the corner of El Molino and Walnut and discovered Rick's was gone, I was very sad because the Double French is one of Pasadena's best burgers (and I've been eating burgers in this area since I was born many years ago). Then a barista at Jones Coffee told me Rick's had become Bobby's Place and was on Lake. It is. It's a nice new place. The parking situation is a little bad, but while I can't blame them, it kept me from giving it 5 stars (and that's the only reason, well that and they like nearly every place in the world doesn't know what I want my fries crispy means.) The people are friendly. The food is still awesome. So here's my complaint about crispy fries in case the people at Bobby's read this (as well as anyone else). First, I don't think most cooks do anything when I ask for crispy fries. Second, most times they just leave it in a little longer so they are a little hotter. What I'm looking for is two things: carmelization and crunch. I don't want them burned black, but they should be stiff and snap a little when I break them in half. They should not bend. And don't worry, I know it takes longer and I'm willing to wait. I love you guys, you used to be the one place in Pasadena that actually made crunchy fries, or well-done fries, but it was hit or miss depending on the cook. I used to love your fries and for the most part, they are good...just wish you would learn what it means when someone orders crispy or crunchy or well-done fries. *** NO FRILLS AMERICAN FOOD *** bobby's place is a nice, little diner located in the ralph's parking lot on lake. i love breakfast burritos. theirs is fresh, hot, and cheap. ordered the bacon breakfast burrito which was made to order as all the food is. it came with a salsa. there are a couple breakfast burritos i prefer more but it fit the bill. since we shared the burrito, we decided to share a burger to just for kicks. asked the guy if he would make burgers that early, he said that everything in the menu is available. it was a basic burger. hubby actually prefers basic burgers to the fancy schmancy ones. next time i want to try the spuderito. read more

My wife and I stopped here for breakfast/lunch before her test today. Parking was in the rear and the restaurant was clean and cozy. Staff was very pleasant and most importantly the food was excellent for the price. I had the double Ortega burger and my wife had the breakfast street tacos. We were able to completely customize our order if we wanted which is always nice. Their ranch jalapeño sauce is on point, my wife had it on her tacos and I dipped my fries in it. My only negative was that wife mentioned that the bathroom was not very clean. Otherwise I highly recommend this place! Good eats! read more

First time trying this place after passing it all the time. I got a bean burrito but was able to customize it as I'm avoiding dairy. All of their burritos come with cheese and burrito sauce, so I got the bean burrito without cheese and was able to add French fries and onions. It was great! We still call it Rick's Tacos. I grew up eating Rick's crunchy tacos and never could figure out why these tacos are SO much better than when you make them yourself at home. I recommend getting them with onions and hot sauce. Their fries are also outstanding. I like their shakes, too, but I rarely have room for one. If you have a strong constitution, you might try the spuderrito. It's not for me, but my husband LOVES it and gets it every time. It's a burrito with french fries inside. Reminds me in a way of Okidog - this is clearly hangover food. Service is great. Nice, no nonsense, fast, and I've never ever had a mistake in my order. Which, when you think about it, is pretty remarkable seeing as I've been eating Rick's Tacos for about 30 years. No change that I can see when it changed to Bobby's - which in my opinion is a really great thing. After eating at ricks for 30 years and now Bobby's the tacos I order for all this time have started to come with grease pouring out the back I have complained several times about the tacos and the grease pouring out of the taco shell but they always blame it on the meat I don't understand why they don't drain the meat and pour the grease off I worked at Del taco when I was a kid and that's what we did there we poured the grease off.. After numerous complaints I just feel like a jerk now every time I complain so I have chosen to just not eat here anymore it's sad I really did love this place read more

i am a breakfast burrito aficionado. i love them. i could eat them for every meal of the day. bobby's has one of the best in the city. i prefer them without meat but they have bacon and sausage as options. they come with potatoes, hot sauce, salsa and eggs in a warmed up tortilla. it's about $3 for this delicious concoction (add another dollar for meat). the spuderito is pretty amazing too. read more

Disgusting food!!! The people were okay. The food was cheap but, you could taste that it was cheaper than Taco Bell. This food was horrible. We had just gotten off of a 2:30 hour drive and I was starving. I ordered 3 tacos and the first was so salty and repulsive I could barely finish it but I was so hungry and I paid for it so I choked it down but the ground beef hinted of dog food. Delicious burger for the price. Efficient, quick, and fresh tasting. They keep their menu simple with burgers, burritos and tacos plus a few side add ons. It's not the best or fanciest burger I've had but compared to a fast food chain burger which is about the same price, this is overwhelmingly better. Fries are decent but not anything special. I live in the Palm Springs area but anytime I'm in Pasadena, Bobby's is a must stop to eat. It has kind of an old school vibe with really good food. It used to be Ricks before that was torn down for new constitution. Bobby's has somehow managed to keep the food tasting just like it did back in the 70's. There's a reason this place has been around for all this time with a loyal customer following. Parking is limited so use the Ralph's lot. read more
