We had a 20 people reservation, they have a private room. Service was awesome! Food was good. We had three choices and 2 choices of dessert. We had a great time.

Everything was amazing! We went on Valentine's Day and ordered from the special menu. The bread and butter were warm, soft, and delicious. I had the bang bang shrimp, and it was so good! We also ordered two steaks, and both were cooked perfectly and full of flavor. On top of that, the restaurant had a great atmosphere, making the whole experience even better.

Food is great. Employees are very nice. Service was extremely slow. I was with a large group of about 20 people. We sat in a private area that's extremely dark. Two of the lightbulbs are out. I'm not sure if that's for ambiance. I requested a medium well filet and it was perfection! Many restaurants get this wrong and send it out burnt and dry. My filet was crispy on top and juicy inside.

I miss the heyday of Washington, DC restaurants with the hustle and bustle of the lunch time crowd but at least the quality of the food is still excellent at Bobby Van's Grill. The Executive Lunch special is two course offering that is excellent. Our server Rudy took very good care of us. The place is now quiet which can be a plus if you don't like the loudness of many restaurants today. Food was excellent.

Bobby Van's offers a great dinner deal on Fridays and Saturdays: a shareable Cajun steak with two sides, plus appetizers (shrimp, caesar salad, or French onion soup) for $99. Generous portions, enough to take plenty home. We were stuffed, but couldn't resist the hazelnut brownie for dessert. Nice, attentive service throughout. But the wine could've been served at a slightly colder temperature (for a steakhouse, this should be a given IMHO). It was a bit sad to see hardly any other diners with us on a Friday night. Sure, it was a bit cold and rainy that night, but I was so surprised how empty the place was. I remember Bobby Van's was always bustling pre-pandemic. I worry for downtown DC restaurants like theirs. Unless you're on Washingtonian's Best Of list, the classic, tried-and-true places may not be long for this world. I hope Bobby Van's will make it.

Special menu for our group/large party

Came here for a large group dinner. Space was nice and big for everyone and we weren't crowded at all. Service felt unorganized and a lack of communication putting in orders and getting food and drinks. I tried the French onion soup for my appetizer but wasn't all that great. The cheese and bread just felt so dense in a big glob that it wasn't as satisfying as I'd hoped. The salmon was a bit salty and side dishes were served family style but not enough to go around for the whole table. The steak was pretty good but was still craving the side dishes by the end of the meal.

Visited Bobby Van's on the Inauguration Day and the place was absolutely packed, which provided for an amazing ambiance. The food was exceptional. Between my husband and I, we tried the spicy fried calamari appetizer, the Cesar salad, the Cajun pasta and the ribeye. Everything was very well prepared. We were too full for the dessert, but the menu looked pretty good: lemon cake, hazelnut brownie, just to name a few.

April the manager

If the manager April (to the right of this pic) is any representation of all Bobby Vans', then I'll be visiting all of them! She's absolutely phenomenal, greeted us with so much light, a great smile, and amazing energy. I had a service dog with me (I always call ahead to let the restaurant know) and even without knowing that she was so respectful and loving! This review is purely specifically for her service/hospitality, and for the filet diablo w shrimp! So delicious and perfectly cooked to a great medium rare. Thanks again April! I went this past friday to celebrate my birthday. They had this spectacular deal for $100. You get 2 apps, a cajun ribeye 26oz, and two sides. The portion sizes were great. We ordered the french onion soup & bang bang shrimp for our apps. The shrimp was a nice size and very scrumptious. The french onion soup was good but the bread in the soup didn't soften like I hoped. I still enjoyed it nonetheless. We ordered the cajun ribeye medium and it was cooked to perfection. For the sides, we ordered the brussel sprouts & truffle fries. The brussels had balsamic & thick pieces of bacon. You can never go wrong with bacon! They were both worth it! The service from the staff was great & the food came out in a timely manner. I will def be back! In the end, they surprised me with a NY cheesecake with strawberries. It was sooooo good!

Amazing dessert for the family

Amazing service that gives perfect expectations for what is displayed at the restaurant. They give great recommendations, helping you to find your delicious dish. The food came out extraordinary and exactly how the waiter described it to be. We were welcomed to the table with a smile and a lot of nice manners. Our waiter was named Owen and gave off a very good and polite vibe. The restaurant was perfect because of the looks and the politeness given off by everyone in the restaurant. I think that it is a little pricey, but worth the money and a very nice place for tourists and your family to have a spectacular dinner.

The lamb chops and salad were delicious .

This place is always good. They used to have a great deal on Groupon but it's not there anymore. I love the Cesar salad. The food is always presented well and the taste is consistent. The service and atmosphere is one for family or date night. The service is always great.

Honestly we were so pleasantly surprised by how good the burgers are! I had the Capital Burger which had such incredible flavor and the burger itself is thick and juicy. Despite having just had a big dinner somewhere else, as I write this, my mouth is watering. My daughter had the wild mushrooms burger and she loved it -- the aioli had the perfect tang to go with the mushroom and Swiss, both burgers were cooked perfectly medium as requested. The old fashioned was just your typical old fashioned with a slice of candied bacon attached to the outside of the glass. We were hoping for something smokier and a little different but it was still a very good Old Fashioned. We shared the chocolate mousse and it was perfection. Yum! If I lived here this would be my new regular spot.

I had the blue cheese and black truffle cheeseburger, with bacon, and it was good. . Very good. I could not identify or really pinpoint where the black truffles came in, but the beef was well seasoned. The additions were a dollar too expensive across the board so I skipped those. The fries were sort of stereotypical, nothing really fancy about those. I debated about having the truffle fries, but didn't really wanna pay the extra three dollars. Bless my server, he didn't know what black truffles were, either. The Reesie's peanut butter cup Skrewball milkshake was quite good. Good use of Skrewball. Could've done with a little more alcohol, but what a great combination. Good taste. Vanilla ice cream and peanut butter all the way through. My only .. concern.. were the pickles. There's this NoVA chain restaurant that serves POPCORN before the meal, which I think has to be the most depressing, unappetizing, lazy and cheap way to start a meal. Capital Burger servers sliced sweet pickles in a jar. That.. is a step up from popcorn, but not by much... If I was in the mood for a burger and boozy milkshake, this would be on the list, but not my first choice.

I sat outside on the patio. To start, I got the calamari appetizer. Yall! Their calamari is so freakin good! The remoulade sauce that comes with it just takes it to the next level. I got the crab cake entree and it was just what I needed. I recommend replacing the tartar sauce with their remoulade sauce. The Tea Time mocktail was very refreshing. The service was good. The only downside is that there was an issue with the gift card that I won from their social media page. After some back and forth, they eventually honored it and all was well. But this experience was definitely better than my past experience, so I'm adding a star.

She changed the reservation, added a birthday note, and wished my boyfriend a Happy Birthday. I later had the pleasure of meeting Raven Jones! The "hostest with the mostest". Raven was funny, kind, helpful, and friendly! Gave us a great seat and wished us a good evening and him a happy birthday. Our server was Aaron. Aaron did his job- nothing beyond that and nothing memorable- just his job and that's fine. My only issue with the evening is Aaron did nothing to acknowledge the reason we came to The Hamilton. I thought- well we changed the time of our reservation so he didn't know? I shared the information with another server privately to inform Aaron and watched the server tell Aaron the news and surprisingly- Aaron still did nothing.. not even say "Happy Birthday". I was a bit disappointed by this. We closed up and carried on with our evening. The food was exceptional and the service was FAST! We enjoyed the evening overall and I'm happy I chose this location.

Both reported, it was an outstanding choice. They enjoy the time before they took the Metro back home. There are no complaints about the service, and they didn't really mention what the place looks like. But it could not have been too bad. They did say, it was clean and nice in the 22-year-olds that's a compliment. They also said it was convenient to get to the metro from there.

Runners just do that. Run around the restaurant throwing food down on tables and run back to the kitchen. Never checking on anyone to see if they need anything and how the food is. I ordered the SW Salad ($16.50) with a steak add on ($9.00) at medium temp. I also ordered a cup of Clam Chowder ($5.95) as an appetizer. Chowder came out pretty much right on top of my salad, but no big deal. Chowder was decent taste, but only found one clam. Ok whatever. Salad came out looking like a side salad on a large plate with five slices of rare, tough steak. It was so rare, that it was extremely hard to cut through, but again, who was I going to talk to about it. No wait staff would even look my way. I couldn't even get a refill on my water and there is no place in the app to order a glass of water...so that's that. Unfortunately it was just an extremely bad experience for $40. I'll be looking for dinner somewhere else tomorrow night.
