"Left to Right wing politics"--- 6 chicken wings with maple bbq sauce & ranch dressing
Susan H.

The Spotted Zebra is located inside The Washington Marriott at Metro Center Hotel. If you are using Metrorail to get there, an entrance to Metro Center is literally right next to the hotel. We spent the night here last week as we were taking Amtrak to Boston the next day, and our train left early. We are Marriott lifetime platinum rewards members, so one perk we got was a discount on our bill if we ate a meal at the Spotted Zebra. Since we didn't feel like going far for a meal, we took advantage of the perk. When we approached the restaurant, a server instructed us to choose any empty table. We decided on a 4-top as we wanted to have room to spread out. Our server was prompt in getting to us. She was friendly and patient, thus giving us time to decide what we wanted. Since we didn't want a heavy meal, we chose to have "Left to right wing politics", which is six chicken wings. We decided to have maple BBQ sauce on them and ranch dressing on the side, along with some celery. These wings were good: very meaty, moist on the inside, and crispy on the outside. Keeping with their political theme, we also got "The Establishment," which is a flatbread pizza that consists of: "shredded mozzarella, parmesan, San Marzano sauce." We were surprised at just how big this flatbread was! It was decent and none went to waste. I can't rate higher than 3 stars because our server disappeared right after she took our order. It's possible that she went off duty; we don't know. All we knew was that when we were ready for the check, we had to flag down a different server, which took some time. Shift turnover needs to be smoother.

12/6/2025 - Saturday night. I ordered the Kids B.E.C, 8.00 USD, for the Scrambled Eggs, Tillamook Cheddar Cheese, Noble Star Ranch Bacon, Sourdough. It was ready in 15 minutes. Bought it for a friend whose child was still hungry. Total of 4 stars. I would given it 5 stars but it came with fries instead of fruit. See photos.

Service here was the worst we experienced in DC. We were staying in the Marriott and with the daily fee you get $15 off at the Spotted Zebra or room service and 2 daily beverages. The first night we came here around 5 pm so it wasn't busy. I decided instead of the daily beverage I'd try the cocktail menu since it looked good. I tried the Common Hypocrite and really didn't like it. After one sip I sent it back and switched it for the overseas import, which was good. At first I thought maybe sending back a drink was why we got bad service, but we went back again later and it was still bad. Our server just never came back. Someone else brought our drinks and fries (the fries were great). We asked that person for the check. Some time passed and we flagged down another server who point blank told us he wasn't our server. We said we know we just couldn't find ours and wanted the check. He said he'd get her. We waited some more and then asked the bartender for the check. Finally our server came back with the check, but that was pretty frustrating. The second time we came and said we were getting our daily beverage. They said sit anywhere and a server would be with us. We never saw a server so my husband went up to the bar to get the drinks. There's usually one cocktail that you can order with the daily beverage, but they said it wasn't made yet. It was 4 pm so not ridiculously early. We opted for wine and the entire time we were there we never saw a server. It was so annoying I actually decided to forgo our daily beverage and $15 credit after that because anytime we were there I left in a bad mood. I'm disappointed because the menu looked good and the decor is beautiful. However I won't come back and I won't stay at the Marriott again.

Bespoke mocktail
Susie G.

We received personal and professional service and attention during our visit to Spotted Zebra. They were missing an ingredient for the mocktail that was on the menu but I described the flavor profile I was looking for and the bartender created a lovely drink that tasted just as I had hoped. My husband ordered a burger and fries and said both were delicious. I got the pretzel appetizer which I ate alongside a bowl of Butternut Squash soup. Both were hot, fresh and tasty. We finished in plenty of time to walk to the Warner Theatre to attend a concert.

Pretzels with sauce

We ate here in the hotel restaurant the night we arrived. The restaurant is quite large with a variety of seating including some large tables for a big group. The menu has creative names which is fun. One of us had the pretzels which were really good-nice and warm and the sauces were good. I had the capital crab cakes which had a slaw and some potatoes. It was tasty and there was a lot of crab in the cake. For dessert one had the America's Sweetheart sundae and I had the congressional cheesecake. Both were quite good. I really appreciated the variety of food on the menu though it wasn't a huge menu. The service was good. Waiter was very nice and professional. It took awhile to get the drinks though. All in all, nice hotel restaurant.

I realized relatively late at night that I still hadn't used my $25 destination fee credit for food and beverage at the hotel. Since I don't often drink, I chose to use it to get a salad; it's good to get some vegetables in yourself when you are traveling! This restaurant is seat yourself. My server, Andre, greeted me promptly with water and the menu and, when I was ready to order, delivered my request quickly to the kitchen. The chicken was juicy and the salad with the cilantro dressing was just what the doctor ordered. I am especially impressed with the prices here. All that for $18 in DC?! I did some work while I sat and ate, but the ambiance is a bit loud for long-term work here.

Presidential PB&J
Arthur C.

The presidential PB&J is one of the most unique sandwiches I've eaten. The bartender described it as "breakfast, lunch and dessert in one," which accurately depicts its blend of sweet and savory flavor. It has powdered sugar to add to the natural sweetness of a PB&J and a unique add of maple bacon, which adds a savory element, comparable to a monte cristo. Service was great, as was the ambiance, for a business casual or casual setting.

Brisket Sandwich

The Spotted Zebra is located in the Marriott at Metro Center so I ate here a couple of times as a hotel guest. I ordered room service one night and got the Winning Ticket Brisket Sandwich and Fries. It was delicious but I wished it would have been delivered warmer. I can only imagine how good it would have tasted if they delivered it as soon as it was ready. I also had the Cheesecake and the sauce had spilled all in the bag when I received it. Flavor-wise, it was a bit bland and not a very good cheesecake. I didn't even finish it. A couple of days later, I dined in the restaurant for breakfast. There wasn't table service and we ordered at a window (which seemed odd). The All American (Eggs, Bacon, Potatoes) was cooked well but seasoning was lacking on the eggs and potatoes. The bacon was delicious. It was odd that toast wasn't included and I had to purchase that separately. The sourdough toast was a good size but I didn't really taste that sour taste that I usually get when dining at other places. The Spotted Zebra was convenient since I stayed at the hotel but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here.

The food at this location was great. The red snapper with the rice and tomatoes was very flavorful. The red snapper could have been cooked a little harder. However, other than that it was great. My friend order the same dish except with salmon. She enjoyed the dish as well but also mentioned that the fish could be cooked harder. We sat at the bar so we didn't get service from the waiter. However, the service from the bartender as great. He was very knowledgeable on the drinks and the food. Unfortunately, I did not get a picture of the drinks. But I ordered a smoked margarita which had a great taste. The ambiance was wonderful. It was very aesthetically please. From the flowers on the ceiling to the rooftop overlooking the Capitol it was great. The roof top provided a chill vibe with low music. It could be a great place for a date night or just a place to go to meet up with friends. I 100% recommend.

For drinks, we tried the Blushing Orchard Martini, Capitol Blossom Fizz, and the Lavender Ginger Bloom -- all refreshing and well-crafted. For food, we ordered the East Coast Oysters on the Half Shell, Beef Sliders, and Mediterranean Tacos. Everything came out fresh and flavorful.

I think they take reservations but we were able to grab a bar spot. Are drinks pricey? What do you think? It's a cocktail bar in DC. The drinks we tried were pretty tasty, even the mezcal one which I thought was a refreshing take. The wall shows some of the drinks on the menu and the ingredients/glass it comes in which I thought was a nice touch. Bartenders were friendly but not too chatty as they were super busy but you never waited long for a drink. The bourbon drink with the whipped honey was our favorite but the gin drink that was pink was also fantastic. For food I did try the buffalo chicken dip, pretty large and tasty (not too spicy) and loved the super crisp celery and the fritos. Clean, trendy bathrooms, nice vibes throughout the whole spot for pictures, great for a night cap or pre-dinner drink.

It tasted like a rainbow--just bright and with a really delicious after taste. I should have stopped at the rose but after my trying my friend's, i had to have one! We initially came for happy hour, but moved to the cocktail menu. The hh was a bit limited, but the drinks were priced overall pretty reasonably for the area. My one complaint is the wine glasses were so teeny. Overall though, I would recommend this bar. Bonus: cheese balls when you sit down! I believe there is also a limited food menu (think nachos) for the after work or late night crowd.

I know reservations are probably highly recommended, but we were fortunate to walk in at just the right moment and snag a seat. The seating is cozy and inviting, perfect for a relaxed evening. The atmosphere is just my style, an elegant, dark, grown and sexy vibe that really sets the mood. The decor is striking, with thoughtful touches that create an inviting space to unwind. While it leans a bit on the pricier side, the exceptional service more than justifies the cost. Jordan and the team were incredibly knowledgeable about both the drinks and food menu, offering suggestions that perfectly matched our tastes. We tried two standout drinks that I can't recommend enough: the Attractive Nuisance and El Tiburon, (which is an Old Fashioned made with gin). The bartenders here clearly know what they're doing, each drink was crafted with care and precision. The good music in the background added to the overall ambiance, making it a delightful spot to spend an evening.

Ambiance: from the outside you'd have no idea that a hidden treasure awaits you up a flight of stairs. The decor was very mysterious, perfectly dimmed, and sexy. They added greenery near the hostess station to create what I would describe as an exotic/jungle vibe. This area also contained a beautiful small bar and a few cozy seatings. Next, the hostess led us to a table inside where the magic of candles, cozy tables, and intimate booths immediately meets your eyes. Did I mention that we sat in most comfy green velvet chairs in our cozy booth? How sexy! Service: our waiter, Jordan, was the best! He provided great service and recommendations. However, shoutout to the rest of the staff because it was truly all hands on deck. Drinks: the bartender is indeed a mixologist! There is no question of the magic he created in a glass. Her drink- I ordered the Attractive Nuisance, an elevated spritz. The drink was perfectly balanced with flavors to include G.H. Mumm Champagne, Avua Prata Cachaca, Cocchi Americano, Saffron, Vanilla. I literally tasted all the flavors in the drink and the liquor ratio was just right. Of course I went with another round, you simply have to try it understand why I did. His drink: El Tiburón-Let's just say that he said that this is now one of his favorite cocktails because it was smooth! Small bites: the kitchen was out of mussels and their famous donuts so we decided to try the Franks en Crute, the sexy adult version of pigs in a blanket lol. Such a delicious treat, well balanced flavors giving both sweet (flaky puff pastry) and savory (well grilled wagyu beef). Definitely recommend. The music was perfect for the evening! The bar was filled with all matured folks enjoying their group meets or dates, the atmosphere welcomed all. As I stated earlier, this has now become a regular on the list and I'm excited to visit again.
