This place is as average as it can get. It is inside the Marriott Metro Center. Good and open design. Another positive is that is it opens till Midnight. They change their menu at 10:30 to bar food. The staff tries to be nice but they seem to hate their work or just not having it. The food is okay and nothing worth coming back for. read more

The Spotted Zebra is located inside The Washington Marriott at Metro Center Hotel. If you are using Metrorail to get there, an entrance to Metro Center is literally right next to the hotel. We spent the night here last week as we were taking Amtrak to Boston the next day, and our train left early. We are Marriott lifetime platinum rewards members, so one perk we got was a discount on our bill if we ate a meal at the Spotted Zebra. Since we didn't feel like going far for a meal, we took advantage of the perk. When we approached the restaurant, a server instructed us to choose any empty table. We decided on a 4-top as we wanted to have room to spread out. Our server was prompt in getting to us. She was friendly and patient, thus giving us time to decide what we wanted. Since we didn't want a heavy meal, we chose to have "Left to right wing politics", which is six chicken wings. We decided to have maple BBQ sauce on them and ranch dressing on the side, along with some celery. These wings were good: very meaty, moist on the inside, and crispy on the outside. Keeping with their political theme, we also got "The Establishment," which is a flatbread pizza that consists of: "shredded mozzarella, parmesan, San Marzano sauce." We were surprised at just how big this flatbread was! It was decent and none went to waste. I can't rate higher than 3 stars because our server disappeared right after she took our order. It's possible that she went off duty; we don't know. All we knew was that when we were ready for the check, we had to flag down a different server, which took some time. This is a restaurant inside one of the hotels. We visited in November 2025. We started off with coconut shrimp which were good. My husband had the chicken sandwich and I had the wedge salad. Both were average and nothing fancy or worth bragging about. While we didn't hate our meal, nothing wowed us and would bring us back with so many other options to choose from. read more

Sat at the bar and took forever just to have the bartender acknowledge us, then she kept closing us out after every round like I guess she wanted us to leave? Service here was the worst we experienced in DC. We were staying in the Marriott and with the daily fee you get $15 off at the Spotted Zebra or room service and 2 daily beverages. The first night we came here around 5 pm so it wasn't busy. I decided instead of the daily beverage I'd try the cocktail menu since it looked good. I tried the Common Hypocrite and really didn't like it. After one sip I sent it back and switched it for the overseas import, which was good. At first I thought maybe sending back a drink was why we got bad service, but we went back again later and it was still bad. Our server just never came back. Someone else brought our drinks and fries (the fries were great). We asked that person for the check. Some time passed and we flagged down another server who point blank told us he wasn't our server. We said we know we just couldn't find ours and wanted the check. He said he'd get her. We waited some more and then asked the bartender for the check. Finally our server came back with the check, but that was pretty frustrating. The second time we came and said we were getting our daily beverage. They said sit anywhere and a server would be with us. We never saw a server so my husband went up to the bar to get the drinks. There's usually one cocktail that you can order with the daily beverage, but they said it wasn't made yet. It was 4 pm so not ridiculously early. We opted for wine and the entire time we were there we never saw a server. It was so annoying I actually decided to forgo our daily beverage and $15 credit after that because anytime we were there I left in a bad mood. I'm disappointed because the menu looked good and the decor is beautiful. However I won't come back and I won't stay at the Marriott again. read more

We received personal and professional service and attention during our visit to Spotted Zebra. They were missing an ingredient for the mocktail that was on the menu but I described the flavor profile I was looking for and the bartender created a lovely drink that tasted just as I had hoped. My husband ordered a burger and fries and said both were delicious. I got the pretzel appetizer which I ate alongside a bowl of Butternut Squash soup. Both were hot, fresh and tasty. We ate here in the hotel restaurant the night we arrived. The restaurant is quite large with a variety of seating including some large tables for a big group. The menu has creative names which is fun. One of us had the pretzels which were really good-nice and warm and the sauces were good. I had the capital crab cakes which had a slaw and some potatoes. It was tasty and there was a lot of crab in the cake. For dessert one had the America's Sweetheart sundae and I had the congressional cheesecake. Both were quite good. I really appreciated the variety of food on the menu though it wasn't a huge menu. The service was good. Waiter was very nice and professional. It took awhile to get the drinks though. Since I don't often drink, I chose to use it to get a salad; it's good to get some vegetables in yourself when you are traveling! This restaurant is seat yourself. My server, Andre, greeted me promptly with water and the menu and, when I was ready to order, delivered my request quickly to the kitchen. Really cool spot, very poorly run and priced. Expectations are not clear when you're not sitting at the bar, do you have a server or do you order at the bar? Went twice in 1 day and ordered both ways multiple times but still wasn't sure what the staff preferred or the ideal way to go about it to cut down on wait times for items. Staff was incredibly friendly and prompt when going out of your way to get up and ask them for a drink, food, etc. but again the expectations of how to go about basic service were very blurry. Food tasted wonderful and was reasonably priced, can't speak on the entree dishes but tried the Zebra Fries, Wings, Pretzels, Brussels, Burger and Caesar salad as part of a group, all very good. Definitely upscale versions of typical dive bar cuisine, not in a negative way, it was very good. Mushroom Flatbread pizza was 10/10 (my girlfriend refuses to eat mushrooms and this flatbread completely changed her outlook on life) The drinks, holy crap are they overpriced, there is not a single "signature" cocktail that they have listed under $22, albeit they do use higher quality ingredients in a higher income area but paying $22 for an aperol spritz ANYWHERE is bonkers. The "Common Hypocrite" a tequila, mezcal, bitters and honey syrup drink is definitely the go to, but at $24 I would recommend a glass of water and a $23 mushroom flatbread... in the 10 years I've worked in the bar industry it's common knowledge food sales are what drive sales, this is the first place I've ever seen that makes their nut on overpriced drinks. Their menu is interesting, as their items are named after political quotes from various orators. The Spotted Zebra is located in the Marriott at Metro Center so I ate here a couple of times as a hotel guest. I ordered room service one night and got the Winning Ticket Brisket Sandwich and Fries. It was delicious but I wished it would have been delivered warmer. I can only imagine how good it would have tasted if they delivered it as soon as it was ready. I also had the Cheesecake and the sauce had spilled all in the bag when I received it. Flavor-wise, it was a bit bland and not a very good cheesecake. I didn't even finish it. A couple of days later, I dined in the restaurant for breakfast. There wasn't table service and we ordered at a window (which seemed odd). The All American (Eggs, Bacon, Potatoes) was cooked well but seasoning was lacking on the eggs and potatoes. The bacon was delicious. It was odd that toast wasn't included and I had to purchase that separately. The sourdough toast was a good size but I didn't really taste that sour taste that I usually get when dining at other places. Food was delicious. I ordered soup and Presidential PB&J. They came out at the same time. Service started poor. I couldn't figure out how to enter and then called twice only to get a vm. Then I saw people entering from hotel. I found a table and no one came to get my order. I walked up to the kitchen and asked for service. 2 women behind the bar could not be bothered to walk to my table. I will say in the end service got better. If I stay nearby again I will know to make sure I make my presence known. Ambience was nice. The loudest noise came from the kitchen crew. read more
