I had an asthma attack after having breakfast from this establishment. Customers with respiratory issues should not come to this establishment. Ceiling is full of molds. Food is mediocre. Eggs- rubbery, bacon- burnt, potatoes-greasy, sausage gravy-bitter aftertaste, coffee-lukewarm. French toast and biscuits were okey. Good thing I have inhalers with me all the time. I used to come to Bob Evans multiple times a month. This is the first time at the Bowie location. I ordered a carry out order. The food was terrible. I couldn't even say it was mediocre. The eggs had a plastic like texture, the bacon was all fat and wasn't cooked throughly. Somehow they burned the top layer of hasbrowns while the rest were raw. They messed up my wife's order and gave her house fries instead of hash browns. Only received two stars because my wife liked her omelet and I did like the link sausages. read more

Ok, I must apologize to my husband. For years, he has raved about the Bob Evans restaurant. In my mind, it was a eatery that specialized in the blue plate special with the busy dinner hour starting at 4 p.m. He finally convinced me to accompany him today. So, we loaded up our kids in the car and visited the restaurant in Bowie, Maryland. There were a LOT of people waiting to be seated, but they were quickly directed to tables. When we got a table in about 15 minutes, I noticed its bakery items. At our table, I was shocked by the low prices. I thought, "cheap prices ... food is going to be blah." But no, it was all quite delicious. The waiter recommended yummy banana and cinnamon breads as well as buttermilk biscuits. They all tasted homemade! The kids loved their pancakes and hot chocolate. (My daughter rated the hot chocolate as her new favorite.) From its caramel swirl specialty coffee to home fries, I was pleasantly surprised. I came here craving breakfast with only 30 minutes to spare before my movie started. I got in, ate and got out in about 30-35 minutes. The service was great, the food good and I was able to get my craving in check and get to my movie in time. Win, win! My mother, father, and I came to this location earlier today (Mother's Day). As expected, we had a long wait. Though we were told thirty minutes it was closer to an hour. The food made up for it! I had a breakfast steak, eggs scrambled hard with cheese, hash browns, and a side of pancakes. The pancakes were buttermilk, my favorite, and they were divine. The hash browns were slightly under cooked but I prefer not to complain at restaurants so with the addition of quite a bit of salt they were decent. The eggs, also with the addition of quite a bit of salt, were decent as well. The kicker however was the best steak I have ever had in my life! I have to start with the bad, since there was so much more of it than good. CONS: * Our food was very late, about 40 minutes after we ordered. Fortunately, our kid's food came out on time, which means no screaming child. There was no reason, no rationale, no insight as to why the long wait. It wasn't just us, either; our entire section was waiting far too long for their orders * My order was incorrect. I received scrambled eggs with cheese and not eggs over medium. * The eggs were sitting in a pool of grease or butter or something. Very unappetizing. * The hostess looked like she had no motivation for being there, and definitely no reason to provide any level of service to the patrons. * The sugar caddy was devoid of... sugar. A cursory glance when bussing the table would have noted this and corrected it. * Coffee was hard to come by. I had to track down our server and request a refill on each occasion. * Speaking of, the coffee was weak, almost like drinking brown water. Little to no coffee flavor whatsoever. Not sure if they are cutting corners and reusing the same grounds more than once, using less than they should be, or just an inferior bean, but it was not worth it. PROS: * The food came out very hot and pretty fresh, including the fruit side with the kid's meal. The eggs were hot (even if they were wrong), and the grits were too hot to handle at first. * The waitress to her credit did keep visiting when she realized how overdue our food was, and she did keep us informed on its status. She was friendly and communicative, which is all you can ask for in that situation. The manager did not visit us about the delays, though he did visit another table about their unrelated complaint. Our entire section should have had a visit, however, but no explanation was given. Maybe he was in the back cooking to try and rectify the situation, I can't say. I had a craving for their sausage gravy, which was slaked. I have no reason to go back for a while, and I do not miss the now closed location up in Crofton. So fast in fact that I did not have any time to survey my surroundings. So when I finish eating, I put my eyeglasses on ready to seat back, relax, people watch while sipping my iced tea. "People always remember that when you make them feel..." I want to start by saying that I've been to this particular restaurant numerous times, nearly always after church on Sundays. It had also become my go-to place when I couldn't think of where I wanted to eat. On Thursday, November 11, 2021; I went to the restaurant just before closing and was totally caught off guard as I observed the older African-American man nearly run to the door to lock it just as I was about to enter. I was about 10-15 feet behind a couple that just entered. I stood there stunned, as it appeared that he was intentionally not making eye contact with me as he locked the door (I was only about 3 feet away at this point). He eventually looked up, with a 'screw you' type look on his face and pointed to a sign on the lower part of the opposite door showing the hours of operation (which you cannot see unless you are about a foot away at that time of the evening) All I could think of was 'wow!', never imagined I would experience that from this restaurant. I waited a few days before writing this review to allow my level of disappointment to settle down a bit. All I have been thinking about for the past week is that saying "people always remember that when you make them feel". If it was a matter of the staff all wanting to go home at the end of a long day, food was running short, or you did not want to start anymore new orders; you could have handled it without being rude, inconsiderate and disrespectful. You could have simply had the decency to tell me that and I would have respected it. Each visit on those days showed the best of Bob Evans. Staff members were pleasant and very attentive. I've also gone with family on weekend mornings. Those experiences were good as well. He was courteous, attentive and even apologetic when he felt he wasn't getting to us quick enough or our food to the table in reasonable time. His communication skills are excellent. That guy deserves a raise. Let's talk about the night crew. They all need to be fired. These young folks don't want to work. Visited about 2 weeks ago around 8pm. The experience was the worst I've ever had at any restaurant in 25 years. As we arrived, we noticed the parking lot quite empty. Once we arrived and walked in, the foyer was empty. Someone in the back signaled that "We have customers" and a young lady near the front frowned. I should've taken her reaction as the sign to go, but I did not. A young man walked over and seated us. He provided menus for me and my wife and kids menus for the children. I asked if they had crayons. He stated that they did not. That young man then disappeared. The time at his departure was 8:03. I looked around the restaurant and there were exactly 3 other patrons. In the entire restaurant, there were 3 people. One couple in a booth and one person sitting alone at a small table. Again, our party was 5, 3 children and 2 adults. We waited, and waited, and waited. I looked at my watch. 8:10. My 7-y/o daughter asked me why someone had not come over to help us. I turned my chair around to face the employees and the wait staff. I made eye contact with at least 5 employees. No one budged. No one moved to come over and assist us. They just stared back. They just continued their side conversations like we weren't even there to be helped. In my disgust after a few minutes I finally got up and walked to the front. I asked for the manager. A gentleman (Mr. Jones) who identified himself as the manager arrived from the back. I explained to him that we had been in the restaurant for over 10 minutes with no assistance. Then I asked him to look around. He knew that it was empty. I was very polite, but very emphatic about the lack of service that we received from his staff. I went back to the table and sat down with my family. My wife was urging us to depart. Only reason we stayed was because the kids were starving and getting antsy. About 3 minutes later someone finally came over to take our order. The young lady by the name of Monet came over to help us. She was soft spoken and very polite. I asked her about crayons for the kids. She said that she didn't think they had any. She then took our order and departed. Food arrived within about 15 minutes. My food was fine, kids food was fine, wife's food was not. She ordered a bacon cheeseburger platter. It was terrible. We couldn't tell if the lettuce was actually a piece of burned, dried up lettuce or a collard green. I advised her not to eat it. Monet came over, I explained the lettuce and she returned with a new, fresh piece. Mr. Jones came over to check on us and apologize. We all finished our meals and my family gathered their coats. Never got any crayons. LOL. I had a very long discussion with Mr. Jones about the experience and his staff. To his credit he did take care of the entire bill for us due to the bad experience. It was maybe $20 or so because it was Kids Eat Free night anyway. The night crew at Bob Evans is terrible!!! You have a group of under age 19 employees who truly don't desire to work. They don't have the motivation to work. They have little to no customer service whatsoever. They don't speak to customers. They don't assist customers. Their demeanor is that of those who feel the customer owes them. The culture of the evening staff must change. The manager and management must do something about it. The difference between the staff in the morning and the evening is night and day. I've never had an unpleasant experience when visiting in the morning for breakfast. This is probably a high traffic area for a restaurant to be established but it shouldn't be the reason for the lack of service. Following is a list of things that could've gone better during my recent visit: 1. Hosting service, should manage the floor better in seating proper groups. 2. Menus & utensils, weren't placed at the area upon seating. 3. Menus were not clean and one should be replaced 4. The wait time to be seated was double the estimated time due to host error; took the server 10 minutes to get us a water and orange juice. The biggest issue that was observed was sanitation by a server. He was carrying a tray with three drinks and with his free hand wiped his forehead to the middle of his hair with his open palm over the tray, then proceeded to place more items on the tray. The service was above par, though, with the waiter seating us promptly on a chilly Sunday morning, but also taking care to ensure that our orders were doen right and came out quickly, even though they were customized orders. Holy moly. What a difference 2 years makes! I've been here a few times, I guess, since my last review but the place sure has changed. It's horrible. The Missus and I showed up on a weekday night. Hardly anyone in the house. The cute store out in the front had vaporized so there is this huge gaping space but no place to sit down (assuming that there was a line or waiting period, which there wasn't) The waitress was, er, distracted to say the least. She came up to us twice and forgot to bring a pen. They were out of some of the beverages. I ordered a chicken pot pie and it took 10 minutes for them to come back and mention they had to start making it from scratch. As a consolation prize (while my wife was happily eating her salad and meal), I got some unordered french fries. The chicken pot pie was a gloppy mess of a cream soup (mostly soup), maybe a few chunks of chicken and one or two peas and carrots. The crust was the best part of the pie. At the end, the waitress gave us someone else's check. Ooopsey. Then I tried to get some ones to tip the ditzy waitress and there weren't enough in the cash register so the cashier/hostess had to get the ones off another waiter. Amazing. My guess is that this location will be closed within 6 months. They're probably downsizing in preparation for their lease to expire so they can get the hell out of there. Ordered for pick up and i show up to receive cold under seasoned food, my husbands so-called "surf and turf" consisted of a medium steak that was supposed to be well done and THREE SHRIMP!!! I had to place my order online because dispite the fact that the place was empty save the employees the ignorant rude woman at the front counter and the lazy guy next to her couldn't be bothered to answer the damn phone. I sat in the parking lot and called them to watch as they yet again ignored the call. Both ladies great accommodating customer service made up for the bottom of the bag lettuce Cranberry pecan salad and Burnt hash browns Me and my guest ordered. For my first experience the only highlight was the customer service And the soft rolls my guest had and banana slices I had. The sample of chicken noodle soup I had was too salty but the sample Vegetable Hearty Beef soup I had was just right since I was sick.
