Um....wow. This place has the best burger I have had in a very long time, Maybe ever. The beer selection isn't anything fancy but what they do have hits the spot. I am always a fan of Guinness on tap. The menu promises the Bob to have garlic, Worcestershire and soy sauce. Every flavor can be tasted in every bite without overwhelming the taste of the juicy beef. Add some mayo, onions, tomato and lettuce and you're in juice running down your arm heaven. This burger is not for the faint of heart! Keep your pantie hose at home because you will get messy. The staff were very friendly and attentive, however, the patrons were a little sketch. It shouldn't bother you if you don't mind hearing right wing bullshit. It was 5 o' clock on a Friday, so I expect the hardcore alcoholics are gone by the time more open minded youngsters start to come in. read more

If you are expecting a fancy atmosphere and craft cocktails, this isn't your place. However, ice cold beer, good old fashioned bar food and great service will be found at Bob Dobbs! If you're lucky, Ruby will be behind the bar. I told my husband that Jon Taffer from Bar Rescue needs to hire her as a consultant. She has a wonderful personality and an incredible multitasking ability. We watched Ruby make about 5 different drinks at the same time! Bob Dobbs has a great local vibe and atmosphere. Really nice local pub. One of those places with peanut shells on the floor and drunken scribbling/carvings on the walls and tables. I haven't had a bad meal here yet--The burgers and sandwiches are really good and well priced. Staff is nice, regulars are a mix of college backpacker types and old guys who wear flowery shirts and khaki shorts w/ loafers--Surprisingly few frat bros given the proximity to UA. 4 or 5 TVs showing various sports. Ahh, Bob Dobb's, how I miss you. I used to live around the corner from Bob Dobb's when I was in law school. Every Sunday night I would come here for a burger and a beer. Mind you, I am practically a vegetarian. It's just the kind of place where you feel compelled to have a burger and beer. It has that special divey neighborhood "where everybody knows you name" atmosphere that cannot be duplicated and will live fondly in my memories. I heard Bob Dobb's had gotten a little facelift, and we checked it out for happy hour this week. Besides the lack of restroom poetry, it was the same diehard U of A fringe old school hangout. We might or might not have brought a sharpie. I love that these guys welcome pooches, and the food is always tasty although greasy. My partner gave our server a twenty to settle up, though, and she never came back. We asked another server, and she said our total was $21.87. The other server had just taken off with our cash, and the second one didn't seem at all surprised. She had already charged our card with the full total again, and had to reverse the charge. I like Bob Dobbs'. The bartenders are friendly, or at least cranky in an endearing kind of way; the food is good; they have Smithwick's on tap, and the two dog-friendly covered patios are usually relaxing. People here seem to be pretty garrulous--including exactly the type Joshua S. mentioned, the "old guys who wear flowers shirts and khaki shorts with loafers"--and I've gotten myself mired in some long and boring stories that way, even with drunken remorseful tears (theirs, not mine), but no harm done. In other words, it's a great place to have a conversation that is beyond small talk yet still completely forgettable. It's difficult to describe the vibe, which isn't quite college hangout, old guy dive, or sports bar, yet has elements of all three. The french dip with a side of fries is my go-to meal at this local diner. I also dig the free peanuts when I'm in the mood for a drink sans meal. The service though? Ehh, the kitchen is pretty slow and the servers aren't the friendliest. This place has a great burger. They kind of give you 2 sliders but under the same bun. Strange right? But I guess they like it that way because they can control how to cook it better? I don't know. They marinate the meat in Worcester sauce and Wasabi. A good combo that I have adopted for some of my burger outings. This place does get extremely busy during good football games and for pretty much any U of A game. But that's the fun thing about local bars right? Stopped in during the late lunch hour. Waiting in the patio for 15 minutes, went inside to get a menu, the bartender says she would be right out. Waited another 5 minutes, it was too hot in the patio. Went inside, sat unnoticed for another 5 minutes. The bar wasn't busy at all. My husband and I went to the Bob Dobb's for a late lunch before taking in a movie. We'd never been before and heard it's one of "the" places to go while in Tucson. When we arrived at 430 on Saturday afternoon, the place was wide open for seating. There is bar, table, and patio seating available. We were surprised it was such a small space. There were several others drinking in high spirits, U of A graduation was that night and celebration was starting early. The walls, tables, and even ceiling are covered with handwritten notes. It's fun to read them all and there are definitely some conversation starters there. Service wasn't super great, it wasn't super bad, either. Our waitress might have been new, or maybe she's worked there for years. It's hard to guess if her lack of interest was apathy or confusion. Husband had the Bob burger (7.50) two 8 oz patties with cheese and a side of fries. I had the avocado, tomato, lettuce sandwich on sourdough with fries (6.50.) We each had two draft beers ($4 each). The tap selection wasn't great, wasn't bad either. Lots of Sam Adam's, Blue Moon, and Bud and Bud light. The beer was good, but hey, isn't it always. The food was mediocre. The burger didn't taste like meat, it tasted like grease. Clearly they aren't using the highest quality of ingredients here, but hey, it wasn't bad either. My sandwich was tasty and all the veggies were the right color. I was actually surprised at the quality of the vegetables. The fries were the stars of the show. A huge mound of them each (way more then either of us could eat individually.) The fries were hot fresh and unseasoned. We made a considerable dent in them. Over all Bob Dobb's is what it's suppose to be; a funky student hang out with cheap eats and beer. If I were 10 years younger I'll bet I'd be a regular. As it stands, in my 30's, I want better quality service, drinks, and food and I'm willing to pay a bit extra to get it. read more

Looking for a new place on a Sunday night in Tucson, my buddy and I found Bob Dobbs' on Yelp. We were hankering for a burger and got a nice one at this pub/bar. Perhaps because it was 9pm on a Sunday night, but it wasn't very crowded and we got good, quick service. The atmosphere was mannish and I really liked the "artwork" scrawled on the walls. It was dirty in a stylistic way; just dirty enough to be comfy, but not so dirty that I felt like I would contract something. The pint was tasty. The burger was excellent. Twin patties with cheese and seasoned with Worcestershire and soy sauce. (My dad used to good burgers like this and called them "Sizzle-burgers." Not quite as good as dad's.) The two patties made for awkward handling and I would have preferred on bigger patty or two thinner, wider ones. Fries were hot, but soggy. I like my fries crispy, so fry-hunters beware. Unfortunately Bob Dobbs' lost a star from me because their fries. Otherwise, it was a good place that I plan on returning to, particularly because of their great hours. To Bob Dobbs': If you make your fries crispy next time I return, I will up your rating to 4 stars! Fix the awkward burger handling and you'll get 5! read more

Came here after being turned away at Club Congress. The place was packed when we arrived, but the crowd was friendly and there was a decidedly low-key vibe to the place. The beer selection was run of the mill, but I can overlook that for tasty fries and a cozy outdoor patio. I had to laugh at the graffiti in the bathroom, the TV turned to Larry King (?), the middle aged man who's known to break into a jig when he's three sheets to the wind, and the wildlife biologist from California who discussed his plan to put a saddle and sombrero on his yellow lab. When I was at the U and the Gaints games weren't on local TV (pre NFL Sunday Ticket), we would bounce down here and get ripped on Bloodies and watch the game. Located a few blocks away from U of A campus next to the Rincon Market, Bob Dobbs is a great local pub for either good food and/or drinks.
