The Boathouse Cafe is my all time favorite cafe in New Jersey. Last November, my mom and sister threw me a beautiful bridal shower there and it was beyond amazing! The cozy ambiance of the cafe with that great view of the pond and the park made the evening absolutely beautiful and a memorable one. The staff was very helpful and cooperative, they helped out with everything from the setup, to decorating the cafe to serving the food. They allowed my sister to decorate the place and weren't too fussy about anything.They even let them borrow their manzanita trees and step and repeat banner for the event!! I am so glad we had my shower over there it was exactly as I imagined. And, I am so thankful to the staff of the Boathouse cafe for making my bridal shower such a memorable one. I happened to come at a time when they were short staffed, but Tim the barista made the best of it. The line got really long, and he was the only one working, but he was acknowledging every customer, and apologizing for the wait. I happened to order the chicken parm sandwich which was a bit more time consuming than to get than a scoop of ice cream. He politely asked if he could take care of the line before making my sandwich, and I told him it was totally fine. The line wasn't letting up, so he told the customers they would have to wait for a couple minutes because he had to make my order. When I received it, he said that if there was any issue with my order he would let me get something else, on the house. The chicken parm wasn't a culinary masterpiece, but honestly, I was hungry and it really wasn't bad! Breaded chicken cutlet with roasted red pepper, basil and cheese (mozz or Swiss, I think) on nice bread, and grilled like a panini. I finished my sandwich and he asked if there was anything I wanted - I just asked him to refill my ice coffee, and he went a step further by making me an iced latte. He even remembered what flavor I got previously and that I only got one pump of syrup. He did everything right in a situation that could have ended a disaster. Needed to work for a few hours this morning so set up camp at the Boathouse and really enjoyed myself. Had a bagel and coffee for under $5. They get their bagels from Barry's bagels, so they're really good. The barista was really nice and accommodating. Great coffee. Plenty of seating. But most importantly BEAUTIFUL fall scenery. They have a great patio area, and it was allllmost warm enough to venture out and sit but I didn't dare. They had the doors open anyhow so I got the feel of being outside. Saw they have a poetry night coming up, it's a great location for that kind of thing so I hope they do more of it. I think they could benefit from some more loungey seating, like a little couch/coffee table, etc. read more

It's a nice little operation in the middle of the park. I would consider it an upscale snackbar. I was in the area on Sunday morning for a 5K race and ordered Ron's Quesadilla. It was spicy and delicious. Not much is offered in the way of meals. It's mostly snacks and drinks. read more

Very cool and unique place for the area. They have a good menu with very tasty versions of favorites like ham and cheese. The outdoor seating in the park is the best part, I mean where can you find a park with a cool little cafe located inside anywhere nearby? They also do parties and catering for events such as christenings, birthdays, corporate events, baby showers and such. It's a very cool location for something like that. read more

This place is great! They have a good variety of lunch foods and goodies. I got the turkey pesto panini and it was wonderful. My fiance had the cheeseburger sliders and said they were great, too. They serve homemade chips and pickles on the side. Delicious! We had ice cream after lunch and it was very good. I stumbled upon this charming little cafe while heading to a pond and geese park with my son. I noticed it's quaintness in the middle of this quiet area of Passaic and headed in. Nice decor of boats and nautical stars( in love with them!) and settled down with a brownie for myself and cupcake for my son. Clean outdoor bathrooms and grill items available. Outdoor seating as well, major plus! They can do away with the typical upbeat pop music but I won't complain! I can just take my food outside next time! Visit if ever in the Passaic area. Visited here on a very nice Friday early evening where weather was perfect and coffee was good. Didnt really notice the menu as the place is inassuming but a very nice place to hang out with someone. The pond is nice with some fishes in it too. It is located inside of Third Ward Park and if you take a walk or run around and return to the boathouse to relax, it works quite well. read more

It has been over a year since my last review of the Boathouse Cafe. Our monument dedication was a very solemn event attended by many family and friends of the 15 Passaic soldiers who died in a plane crash in 1961 en route to basic military training at Ft. Jackson, South Carolina. The Boathouse Cafe owners and staff were exceptional in providing excellent service and delicious entrees for the guests. Our American Legion post members, and guests were not surprised that the prepared food was served as promised in a very professional manner. We discovered that the Boathouse Cafe also caters for all occasions, from Bar Mitzvahs, Bas Mitzvahs, Birthday celebrations, anniversaries, and all other celebrations. And, their food is Kosher too. It was so exciting to experience this little, off the beaten track restaurant, that our American Legion post has brought over our Boy Scout troop to meet every week. The boys enjoy delicious snacks before, and after their meeting. If you're in the area give the Boathouse Cafe a try. read more

Due to the many kosher observers, they have brought in and continue to bring in top quality, delicious kosher sandwiches, pastries, Ice Cream, etc...Sitting outside is absolutely stunning, under their new umbrellas. This cafe is right by my house and has been on my list for two years now, so while I was on the hunt for some Pokemon, I decided to finally stop in and get something refreshing. I am sooooo glad that I went in because the people here are super sweet! I wanted ice cream and the owner let me try the Red Velvet (delicious by the way), and he recommended the Salted Caramel Pretzel ice cream to my boyfriend. So without trying the flavor, we told him we wanted the Salted Caramel Pretzel because of his recommendation. He gave us the cone and and let us know that if we didn't like it, he would just give us another cone for free. I've never had someone tell me that they'll throw out an entire cone and give me a new one for free, which is excellent customer service! I ended up really enjoying the Salted Caramel Pretzel and will definitely go back here many more times, especially since I'll be in the area catching Pokemon anyways ;D. read more

Just discovered this little gem so close to home. It's located within the Park in Van Houten and we only found it because my son was playing Pokémon Go in this area. :) (huge Pokestop btw). What a great cafe! We hung out long enough to try a few things on the menu- turkey panini, cheeseburger sliders, tomato basil soup - all excellent with really fresh ingredients. The coffee was also great!!! So excited to have found this place for the upcoming Spring season since they have outside seating with the view of the water!! The costumer service is superb! The food is pretty good. I had a chicken quesadilla, which was freshly made and tasty. There is a pretty standard selection to choose from in terms of breakfast/lunch. They have pastries, nice cafe drinks, and to top it all off ice cream, which is delicious. The location is perfect! There is a nice patio in the back that over looks the river and passaic (third ward) park. They also play lovely music that just sets the perfect mood for the morning/afternoon. New management and chef has ruined this place. The croissant and pastries (which used to be very good and made in-house ) now taste like Costco made them ,which is the rumor by the way. And this is for $3.25. The scrambled eggs are over cooked and the potatoes are undercooked. It is a real pity. I have been a customer for ten years going almost daily. I talked to the staff and was told the management didn't care what I thought about this. read more

This place is special to us. I proposed to my wife there and we had our wedding reception there. The owners and the staff where amazing the place was cozy and intimate like we wanted for our wedding.
