While there isn't exactly an Argentine neighborhood in New Jersey, many great restaurants are…read morelocated in the northern part of the state. Argentine cuisine is a blend of influences from the Italian and Spanish immigrants with its chief national product, beef. They say the reason Argentine steak is so good is that its cattle graze on the country's plentiful pampas grass, rather than being grain-fed as American cattle are. The result is leaner, more flavorful, and more nutritious beef. One such establishment is on Moonachie Road in Moonachie, where my partners, our friends and I decided on Saturday dinner. Reservations were easily made via OpenTable. Upon entering this cozy, modern interior of Tango Steak as first-timers, we were greeted by the host and got a table right away. We were here 3 years ago when it was El Tango Argentina Grill. The vibe has completely changed. It's now darker and louder, not family-friendly. Music was at a decent volume and does seem to increase as it gets later, giving it a lounge type. As an appetizer, we started with Beef and Chicken Empanadas as well as Calamares (Calamari). For our main meal, we decided on the Extrana (Skirt Steak) with Mashed Potatoes & Chimichurri Sauce and Tango Burger accompanied with Fries. Food was good, not awesome. Our appetizers were tasty and well seasoned. The Skirt Steaks tasted fantastic with the Chimichurri Sauce. The Mashed Potatoes had a nice texture. However, some of us asked that their Tango Burgers be made medium but came out well done. The Fries were salty and very dry. Our service was horrendous, but our server was Nathaly who was accommodating and apologetic. Some of us had gotten their appetizer faster than others. The duration between our appetizers and the main meal was an hour. The food was not cheap given the portions received and the 20% gratuity added automatically to the bill. With insult to injury, their valet attendant charged $5. Definitely not what we expected, which is why we sadly can't recommend this place.

What you just have to be aware of is that if you are looking for Italian pizza, this is not Italian pizza. It might look like it, but if that's what you're used to in looking for, this might taste a little off, but it's not off, it's just different, some different seasoning in it. Not as much my thing, but approaching it for what it is, this is more than not bad, this is a good spot. You can go a few blocks up and have Domino's and struggle not to regurgitate for several hours afterwards, but this would certainly be a better choice than that. I would say give it a try, you might even like it more, different people have different tastes, but the quality is good and the service is excellent and the prices aren't bad at all, so while it might not be entirely my thing, I can still recommend it.

I live in Connecticut, but I go to New Jersey every two months or so and no matter what I have to go here and get my empanadas. If I didn't become allergic to nuts, I would get a slice of balcarce! It's vanilla cake with dulce de leche, walnuts, fruit whipped topping and meringue. Think of a caramel nut cake with yummy bites of peaches. They don't usually sell it by the slice, but if you ask nicely, they'll cut into a cake for you. If I go with friends or family I always grab a slice because if I can't enjoy it, I at least want the people around me to have the joy of tasting my childhood.

I was looking forward to trying some local empanada spots and found Argentina Bakery on ubereats…read more Since Ubereats was offering a 40% off promotion for pick up orders, I decided to give this bakery a try. Don't judge my gluttony but I wanted to sample a variety of items. I got five empanadas: Beef, corn, spinach, cheese empanadas and the Swiss chard tart. I also got three desserts: tres leches cake, a peach balcarce and the dulce de leche mil hojas cake. I liked the empanadas but wish there was more stuffing inside. The bread ratio was a little too high for me but still tasty and I liked the slice of hard boiled egg inside for great inside texture. The desserts were very good. I liked the contrast with the cakes, toppings and fruit. There is a little no parking area in front of the shop that you may be able to park for a quick pick up but also saw a lot of metered parking. Pricing was very reasonable. It was a good experience.

The service was friendly…read more I ordered the 10 ounce boneless strip loin because I didn't want a huge meal - ordered medium rare. I'll let the picture speak for itself. The steak was definitely rare, not medium rare - and pretty raw in places. Over and above that it was at least 50% fat and grizzle. You can see the piece on the far right which I left in the picture to show how underdone the steak was. I alerted the server to the issue and said they really need to check a quality control. They promised me they would do something about it but when the bill came, we didn't even get a discount. I will say that of the other five meals only one had any issues and that was another cut with a lot of fat, but not nearly to the extent that I did. Moreover, I generally rate a restaurant based on the fact of whether they can make something better than I can make myself and even if the cut had been better, I make better season stakes myself all the time... So at $44 for a pile of fat in an undercooked steak, I think I deserve better.
