I've been spending a lot of time in this neighborhood because of my gf and I'm starting to feel a cultish vibe for Pete's Diner. After dining at the two, I gotta say... Blvd Diner is the obvious winner. Pete's Diner is bigger and can accommodate more, sure. But Blvd Diner's an actual diner. The booths are less spaced out, so sitting at a table isn't uncomfortable. If you're into the old-fashioned charm, they have something called Brown Sauce. I dunno how this fell out of fashion but Brown Sauce is delicious. It's basically steak sauce or a malty sugary sauce. The food is standard with old-school prices. To put this into perspective, an egg sandwich is $3something. It's a place more for where the local folks can kill a few hours. I only had enough cash for my meal plus tip and tax, as the person left abruptly, and only left behind partial payment of the meal. I was left with the remaining balance and didn't have enough for the tip. I explained to the waitress my situation and she was very understanding and accommodating to my difficult situation. There was a guy waiter which he was really nice but the lady she was rude from start to end. It would have been great if he took the order but he said I have to wait for the lady. I ordered the omelette, pancake and other stuff. Quite don't remember what I ordered. The omelette was good, the toast was burnt! I asked if they had smoothie and the girl was like NO I DON'T HAVE. They have blender but don't make smoothie I wonder what is it for then. The atmosphere is dark and quiet. I feel like I'm in a scene from a movie whenever come in. It's never been busy when I've happened to visit but not sure if that is the norm. That aside - I have been happy with what I've gotten here, from traditional breakfast food (eggs, sausage, pancakes - yes my diet is not always healthy), to standard sandwiches and big salads. I was surprised to see it was changed into blvd diner but we decided to give it a try! I liked how the interior has been tweaked into a more modern taste and the menu simplified. My boyfriend got the big breakfast and I got a breakfast special of eggs with sausages and an extra side order of hash. His was supposed to include pancakes, bacon, eggs, potatoes, and sausages. The morning special includes orange juice AND coffee or tea. They forgot his potatoes and my juice and would've forgotten my coffee had I not said I wanted one. Boss was treating for lunch so here we came! The menu was endless! So many options that I didn't know which one to choose! But ultimately settled on the Big Breakfast for my lunch. I went to Blvd. Diner for the first time today with a couple of friends. The food was pretty good. However, a very strange thing happened. I ordered a frittata, and confirmed I wanted home fries with it, not french fries. The waiter brought the food out and mine had french fries with it instead of home fries. Not a big deal; I confirmed with him that I asked for home fries and he told me he'd get them for me and to keep the fries. I thanked him and my friends and I ate some of the fries, because why not? So then he comes back out and brings the home fries to the table. Then he takes the french fries and GIVES THEM TO ANOTHER TABLE NEAR US. My friend called out to him (it was loud in there) that we had been eating the fries (and therefore touched the plate and food). So he says "It's OK." Wait, WHAT?! Then he asks if I want him to bring out more fries. I'm so confused at this point that I told him no thanks. He kept asking me if I was sure. ??? So we mentioned this to the manager and it didn't seem to phase him very much. I'm not the type to complain about insignificant things. But this is a HEALTH CODE VIOLATION. Much cleaner and nicer inside than Pete's or New York Style Eats. I had the eggs and my boyfriend had a burger. My eggs were great and tasted super fresh, potatoes were good too. My boyfriend was not impressed with his burger, but still enjoyed the ambiance. The service was good and our food came out very fast. One place they could improve is hiring another waiter. The one waiter working the whole place was very busy and it took a long time to get the check. Overall we really liked this spot!
