We decided to use Blue Wave on the recommendation of our daughter's father in law who had had a really nice pool built. We also did our due diligence and got quotes and proposals by a couple of other pool builders. Steve came out to measure up and do our pool design. He listened to everything we said and was able to incorporate it all into a beautiful pool. We love our backyard, and because we have a good sized side yard that is where we wanted to put it, even with the zero lot line design of our community's houses Steve was able to do this in a way that worked well. We were looking for a pool that my husband could do laps in, I could float around in, and our grandkids could play in-with a seat down the entire length of one side, along with a big bench area. The pool in total was 40ft x 10.5ft, and included a waterfall, and we added on additional travertine decking and a pergola. Once we had decided on the design, Steve went through every single feature and pool option to make sure we knew what each item was and what would work best for us, to get our final quote. After signing the contract, the most annoying part of the process commenced. This was not the fault of Blue Wave, we just happen to live in a county island so Maricopa County was in charge of issuing the pool permit-with the longest waits for approval, and it didn't help that we were also building a golf cart garage at the same time. Other cities in metro Phoenix will allow for the hole to be dug prior to the permit being issued so they get a head start and reduce the total length of time for the whole process from start to finish-not so in a county island. However, as they will tell you, pool construction will take 6-8 months from the time you have your hole dug. For us it was 6 months. Yes, it is frustrating to have piles of earth around the construction area, but there's nothing you can do about that. What I will say about Blue Wave is that we found all the subcontractors to be excellent. I talked to all of them while they were doing their thing. It's a fascinating process to watch. They were all very respectful of our property and cleaned up afterwards. All the contractors showed up when we were told they were coming. Even when there were a couple of hiccups, as there will inevitably be in a large construction project, they were quickly dealt with. Blue Wave was great about me changing my mind about the pool tile a couple of times during this, and when I was still agonizing about my choice (I was a bit particular) they were able to bring out an extra selection of tiles that had one I absolutely loved. They also made a couple of other changes for us during the process with no problem in doing so-we changed to colored lights and expanded the travertine and the size of the pergola. The pool is now finished, we are just waiting for an ozone bulb to be replaced and the trim on the pergola legs to be installed imminently. The pool looks fantastic, better than we expected, and we can't wait to take our first dip in it. Michelle who supervised the schedule, and put up with my emails, was fantastic. She was very responsive to any questions we had. If she didn't answer an email the same day, she got back to me the following day. Jason and Shane the construction superintendents were also great. They were able to answer any questions we had when they came to do their inspections. Steve came up with the perfect design for our particular space and needs. John the company owner called us personally when one of our options was unavailable for the time of installation due to supply chain issues, and suggested a comparable alternative so there would be no delays, which we were happy to take. It's a bit of a nerve wracking process, and not without a lot of dirt in your yard, but I would choose Blue Wave again in a heartbeat to build our pool. If I could give zero stars, I would. My experience with this company has been overwhelmingly negative, and I strongly urge others to think twice before doing business with them. There are far too many issues to list in detail, but the overall our pattern was clear: lack of accountability, and a complete disregard for customer satisfaction. First off, you have a lot of choices in the valley to choose from when building a pool. We got 5 bids before electing to go with blue wave based on their design which aligned with our desires. However the rep we dealt with quit, and we had to reach out to the management to get assigned another rep who had to redo the entire bid. That should have been our first red flag. Fast forward 15 months, when our pool was finally filled. In that window we dealt with sub contractor after subcontractor who would show up unannounced or sometimes not when scheduled. Some of the subcontractors were upset either by the amount of work, or the lack of communication from Blue wave. Often times, I as the customer, would have to talk them down or explain exactly what work was to be done. Furthermore, once our pool was "complete" it took an additional 2 months for the correct salt cell (a Pentair product) that we had purchased to be installed rather than the salt system they tried to install (an unfamiliar brand). Luckily we reviewed our contact and bid and held them to the product they agreed to install. We've now had the pool for 1.5 years and have noticed tile cracking and breaking, cracks in the grout, several large cracks in the decking that they've attempted to repair--even before the pool was filled. Dealing with their warranty department has been a challenge to say the least. I've waited to write this review for along time hoping they would step up and take care of a customer, but that was wishful thinking. I'm glad people are happy with them, but I cannot say the same. I literally had to hold their feet to the fire to get things accomplished--and I'll likely have to do the same with their warranty department. Be careful with who you go with. read more

We came to work with Blue wave through our home builder and lender. We loved the design and how they were willing to meet with us later in the evening as we couldn't meet under "normal" business hours. From the beginning they were very flexible with us on that. Were their issues, yes. We have built pools with other companies but I believe it was just the perfect storm right now. Pool builders are in such demand and trades just can't keep up. When we brought up our issues or concerns Cindy was quick to get us an answer and potential solutions for the problems. Our site super was Jason. He was our favorite person to work with in the whole process. He was a joy to talk with, always explained the process and what was going to happen next. He even got his supervisor involved (Shane) when needed. The pool came together great. It did take longer than promised (not uncommon right now) I worked in construction so I get it. First off, Steve their sales guy is great. Very knowledgeable about everything from what attracts birds to your yard to how many jets is comfortable. He was great!! After we signed the contract, everything went south. We signed our contract in November. They were suppose to start digging by January. I called and called. They didn't dig until May. Even then the guys that came out to dig told me they had been called the day before to dig our pool. We weren't even on the schedule!!! Now 3 months later my appointment day comes and I get a text from them stating that have to cancel the appointment due to "extreme conditions in the industry". I asked why I wasn't told this earlier and was told they are backed up four months. I replied that wasn't the point and that I wasted a vacation day off from work for the appointment. Review of Blue Wave Pools and Spas First of all, we had never heard of Blue Wave Pools before a friend referred them to us. So, I'm basing this review on a totally new experience and not because Blue Wave is a longtime friend, etc. And I'm not being paid to write this review, John may have actually figured I forgot all about writing it by now. However, we were hoping to get the landscape and Patio cover completed for pics before we reviewed Blue Wave Pools. Unfortunately, we are finding that not all contractors are as dependable or on schedule as Blue Wave Pools, and I don't want to wait any longer to get Blue Wave's review posted as they deserve the positive feedback. Initially I wanted 5 proposals for our back yard, pool, Patio cover, fire pit, landscape, etc. We were able to get 4 builders to come out for proposals, only 3 actually submitted proposals. I requested RFP's from (2) referrals from friends, Blue Wave was one, another was "Big Box Builder #1" which was a no show. (2) Were from Yelp, one of those came out first time and didn't submit a proposal. Last one was "Big Box Builder #2". It got down to Blue Wave and one other Yelp referral who we really liked as well but he did not have the history that made us comfortable like Blue Wave did. John Miller the owner of Blue Wave pools and Spas was the first builder to meet with us. John is a super nice guy, and just terrific to work with, (I gotta admit, I can be nitpicky and forewarned John but he was absolutely great to deal with). We gave John an idea of what we were looking for and he came up with a great design for us. He came back twice after that to tweek the project and get it just right. His third trip out we signed the contract. Blue Wave completed the following for us: Pool and equipment, all decking including walkways, artificial turf area and fire pit. Our patio cover and landscape are being performed by other contractors. So this is only a review of the work performed by Blue Wave Pools. John taught us a lot about pools before we ever decided to go with him. He never tried to up-sell us on anything, matter of fact he talked us out of some things that would have cost more but really not worth the expense. He just gave us the pros and cons of different options. John's entire team (Marsha, Shane, Jason, Cindy) were awesome, they worked with us, answered questions concerns along the way, etc. This was our first pool and we didn't know what to expect, so we likely had some undue concerns and questions along the way that we wouldn't the next go around. Regardless, the Blue Wave folks had patience with us. Our Pool was laid out on Feb. 19 and we had orientation on May 3rd. Which we thought was pretty quick considering all the rain during this time, we estimate about 2 weeks' worth of delays due to the rain. As the decking was being done I requested some additions to it and extensions of the turf area, etc. John was very accommodating in making the changes and coordinating the subs. We have had one minor warranty issue, UV filter had a slight leak during pump run on high. Cindy scheduled it and Jason was out this am to correct the issue. So they do handle the warranty items as well. It has been a wonderful experience from start to finish, working with the Blue Wave Pools team. I highly recommend giving Blue Wave a look. They will make the whole process easier for us if we build another pool, we won't have to look for any other bids. We'll just have Blue Wave come out and get started. well I wish I went with Shasta. My pool was built, but had to redo the coating it was so lousy down the owner came out to say we are ripping it out we can't fix it. I got pebble tech. The concrete people blew concrete on my house, solar pannels and my neighbors 2 story house. That was not pleasant. Well 2.5 yrs later the pool decking was just a spray on junk that started falling off last year. Looking into coating the decking with a 15 year to lifetime warranty on their work. they didn't tell me the decking was going to come off in a year. I would have done something different. read more

Our salesperson, Robert was horrible at returning messages. Cindy was equally as unresponsive. The workers left trash in our yard. Our backyard gate, which had to be removed to get the equipment into our backyard has damage, so we're in the process of trying to replace it. When our pool plan got transferred to Wendy we finally started getting communication and responses to our messages. By the time we're done, Wendy may just earn them another star! Shane was great communicating with us on inspection days. Our pool is not yet finished. We're about 8 months in and just had shotcrete done. Based on the estimates we were given recently, we have about another 2 months left. If they tell you 4-6 months to build, expect 10 months from the time you sign your paperwork. read more

I can only review the customer service as we didn't get a chance to build a pool. We had a meeting in the books for a month with Steve and had attempted to move the meeting up as we wanted to get the ball rolling. I understand that given the current times rights now, pool companies are really busy, and they were able to accommodate. No problem, however, we have waited a month now and 50 mins before our meeting, Steve calls to cancel saying "someone stopped by the shop"... (whatever that means). I was a little perturbed as we made arrangements to not be working in order to meet with him. If I don't work, I don't get paid. My time is precious too! Since I answered the phone and didn't know what my husband wanted me to do, I rescheduled with him for the week after. My husband gets off his conference call and asks what happened. He called Steve back to say he was unhappy because we've waited a month and told him never mind about rescheduling. Without even trying to explain or apologize, Steve says, "OK", as if he didn't even care about our business anyway. So there it is. That was our experience. If the customer service is like that right out the gates, I can only imagine what it would be like during the building process. For that reason alone, we're gonna go with a different builder. A few other companies had already been out and we already have the design and measurements ready to go. All he had to do was confirm the measurements and give us a quote. Easy peasy, but now they just missed out on a 43k to 58k job. (Those are the quotes thus far) read more

John and staff are very nice, but after that our experience went down hill. Pool companies are basically General Contractors and they sub everything out. Blue Waves masons are probably the worst I have error seen. Blueprints were never followed. They had water sheer size completely wrong, the wrong stone twice. They eventually installed wrong stone but we stayed with it. The communication from Blue Wave to Subs is lacking to say the least. Had a plumbing issue and they sent Plummer, but says not his work and leaves. End up sweating new pipe myself. I would not recommend. My buddy had used 10 years earlier. John was nice but never saw him again after design. read more

Let me just start by saying that I understand that things take longer and I knew that going into this process. If you're not worried about time frame or getting things exactly like you wanted, I've heard that these pools are actually pretty decent quality by the time they're done. It has now been 10 months since we signed (after spending weeks of getting our design just the way we wanted), and we finally just got to the shotcrete stage. Things are definitely not looking the way we designed them (step sizes, deck area, umbrella placement) so if i could do it again i wouldn't waste time on the details during the design phase. Once we were already months into the project some friends told us that in order to keep things moving we needed to deal directly with John, the owner. That seemed promising at first, but I've texted him with questions twice every day this week and have yet to hear back once. If this ever gets done we will have a nice pool in our yard, even though it is not exactly like what we wanted wanted, but I am not holding my breath... read more

The contractors showed up on time and were professional. The office staff was great and maintained communication with us through the entire process. We also received bids from Shasta and Presidential. For our budget we got more "bang for our buck" with Blue Wave Pools. The other designs were flat, boring, basic and just didn't "wow" us. Then a friend of mine referred me to Blue Wave. We now have travertine, a water feature, Baja step, additional deck step pads and upgraded pebble tech!! I've played this game before, and a true test of a company's worthiness is their "word!" Also, simple phone call to let us know why a delay. I refuse to beg! I bought this pool in May of 2021 through pool supply unlimited didn't get it for over 3 months so I didn't put it up at the end of summer I put it up this year 2022 When I put it up I seen spots where there were water on the outside the pool but I chalked it up to water splashing out or over the pool over time however I noticed that it was a slow leak on some of the seams Then the seam around the pool that holds onto the bars The seams started detaching from itself! So I called and they told me to send them a email with pictures of the damage and confirmation of the purchase so I did and I got a email back saying we only had a 90 day warranty so the warranty was out when we received the pool and the won't do anything for us I wouldn't suggest buying from this place or a blue wave pool at all!!!!!! read more
