Okay, so I travel for business. I know what you're thinking, very glamorous. And you know, it is. If I'm the Mrs who flies all over the world, hangs out in airport lounges and gets to upgrade to business class. It is very glamorous. Unfortunately, I travel to great centers of commerce like Fresno and Bakersfield. So my travel is not in luxurious business class, it's in my trusty FEH with permanent wet dog smell. So I have to get from the Bay Area to Fresno, which is on Highway 99. I have to cross over from Interstate 5 to get to 99. You can cross over at numerous places, like 205 through Tracy and Manteca (who remembers the water slides?), 132 to Modesto, or 156 through Los Banos. Well, 205 takes me too far north, 132 is 19 miles of death alley, and 156 is too far south. So, just for s**** and giggles, I got off at Patterson today and took county route J17 to Turlock. My first impression, smelly. Lots of cows. My second impression, why are there so many houses out here in the middle of nowhere? Where in the hell do these people (Patterson population 20,000) work? This really is the middle of nowhere. So, I get off the mother road, and followed the signs to downtown. Cool old downtown, with frickin' rotaries at every corner. Just like being in the demolition derby. Once I figured out how to get off the rotary without getting hit, I found a place downtown by the name of Blues Cafe. Right next to the Blue Florist. So I guess that's why they call it Blues Cafe. Plus, there is no wall between the two. Pretty funky place with lots of junk, I'm sorry, curio's on the walls. The guy who owns the place is a good guy, and there actually was blues on the speakers. The food, okay by any standards. He uses spicy mustard on the sandwiches, which is cool. $7.50 for sammich, chips, and drink. Not bad at all. This is the quintessential local place that makes up the fabric of the community. Get off the damn freeway and see a bit of America! read more

Was in Patterson on business, went to this little place for lunch with a colleague, and my oh my was it a great find! I yelped to find this place and read the great reviews- it has coffee, beer, sandwiches and bagels all in one spot! Chocolate Cappuccino was delicious and the sandwich was fantastic! The service was delightful as well! Thank you so much! If I find myself in Patterson again I shall be returning to this great spot! Try to get in before the lunch rush, if possible, they run out of breads which is a good sign because it must be good! :) read more

Jazzy tunes, chill atmosphere and the warm succulent smells of roasted coffees wafting through the air tell you sincerely what a great choice you made coming here. For those of you yet to visit, get in the car and make the trip! The Cafe is decked from wall to wall with gorgeous Art, Sculptures and Statues from around the globe. From rare wood carved Chinese guardian statues to a mounted reindeer made to look like Rudolf, unique metal toy planes, cameras and other decor hanging from the ceiling and anywhere you stand there's something fun to look at. The menu is just as diverse! the coffee is always perfect no matter what you order, Mr Rick (the owner, I think) is very nice and always has something interesting to say while you wait for a Hot Coco, Iced Coffee or a Mocha Latte- all my friends love coming here to chat or have a bit of weekend down time. The food is pretty tasty, I liked the sandwiches - everything was fresh and I felt very satisfied with the prices. this is a great local spot perfect for grabbing something other then fast food or picking up an anytime cup of coffee. This place is amazing! Delicious sandwiches and yummy salads! They've got a major variety of bread, and they make home made soup in the colder months. Friendly atmosphere and super laid back. The owners are fabulous, and it's obvious they love what they do. :) They have bagels and pastries, and a full espresso bar! I'm having a caramel macchiato as we speak. Four beer taps that are always changing, I've tried many a good beer here. As well as a decent beer selection in the fridge. Overall one of my favorite places ever! read more

Im not in Patterson very often, but I was there last weekend, and we came here for a sandwhich, I ordered a large Chicken Ceaser on Chaibatta. My first thought when I got my sandwich, is OMG I cant believe this is so big, there's no way im gunna be able to eat all of this. But once I started eating it I couldn't stop haha, it was SO good! Years later, students still come here for the mocha chiller and a pizza bagel. Mocha chiller being a coffee mixed with vanilla ice cream, blended together to deliver a rich, refreshing pick me up during Patterson's HOT weather. Just had Blue cafe for the first time Jon had the red and Green Moo, Turkey bacon gobbler and he loved it. I had the Oceanic it was pretty good. They also had a really good streusel topped blueberry muffin. We will be back next time we visit Patterson. read more

I'm not sure if I've ever been to a better sandwich shop! If I have, it's pretty hard to remember anything comparing to this place. I grabbed a spring training vegetarian sandwich and a mocha crunch. The food is INCREDIBLE! What initially drew me here was the atmosphere, they have a cool little patio and I could see couches! That was just the beginning, the artwork all around is really cool to look at, seating is great, and the service puts them above the rest. Wow! We stopped in for a lunch meal and we were beyond pleasantly surprised. Had never been to Patterson let alone here and will surely be back to the Blues Cafe. We each had a Build Your Own 6" sandwich and we could not finish either one. Both were really, really good. We were on the road south to LA and we needed a good cup of coffee. Well, we found it. Located in the cute little town of Patterson, it's a fun, eccentric little place. Great coffee and plenty of beer, and all the regulars coming in and greeting the bartender and one another make this place feel like a little home away from home even for travelers like us. read more

I absolutely love Blue's Cafe! It's a quirky little coffee shop attached to a flower shop with the most delicious pizza bagels, sandwiches, & milkshakes in town. The cafe itself is very homey, it has plenty of seating both indoor & outdoor, the decor is random but it suits it very well, the menu has options for everyone, & the service is great! I highly recommend their pizza bagels, they're soft, flavorful, & perfect for that craving early in the morning. Their chocolate shakes are the perfect texture, they're not too thick/runny, have the perfect level of sweetness & aren't overwhelming at all. As far as the sandwiches go, my favorite would have to be the chicken Caesar on ciabatta or sourdough, don't hold the olives! As far as portions go, I would say that their sandwiches & salads are pretty large & enough to fill you up. I can say that more often than not, I have half of my sandwich left over to finish for later. If you're looking to support a local business, delicious food in a casual spot, & great service definitely give Blue's Cafe a try. read more

I visit this place at least once a week! Their food is great and drink...even better. I particularly enjoy the Blue's Salad and Nuclear Sub on that sweet wheat roll or marble rye! Their espressos...amazing. Beer.. always ice cold and rotating. Service is amiable, warm and friendly. Rick and Leti define great small town vibes with a twist of uniqueness! From the moment I saw the door to the moment I met the staff, I know this place had passion behind it. I would highly recommend checking into their establishment. The coffee is fresh and warm, the sandwiches are tasty, and the company is welcoming. There is so much to view on the walls and the walls, let me tell you: the walls are decorated with delight. Walking into the restroom, there are some fun things to behold. I cannot give this place enough praise.. actually, yes, I could. I am still one star short with my review, but I do not believe I perfection, so that's my fallacy. I wanted to add that, since my last review, Rick has added a sidewalk bar with stools. And it's great! This morning, my coworkers and I had our morning coffee and bagels outside with speakers playing great music. It was so nice! I hadn't realized (since I'm only ever on-duty when I'm at Blue's), but they have tap and bottled beer. I'll have to go there when I'm not working someday. While the rest of the downtown may not have caught up yet, I recommend that you support a neighborhood joint in its attempts to revitalize a small and beleaguered town. Don't miss this one! What a find! While en route from San Francisco to LA, I hauled off I-5 in search of lunch that wasn't fast food. Stumbled on Blues Cafe. I'm writing from their lobby to say: how in a town of 20,000 agricultural folks, plus a historic downtown consisting of three buildings, did a place like this come to pass? Rick made me an excellent cafe latte - he even had nonfat milk - and a chicken salad sandwich on a perfectly fresh, delectable whole wheat roll. There are cool blues wafting from the speakers, a hobby horse hanging from the ceiling, and an assortment of eccentric kitsch on the lovingly handpainted walls. (Where did he get that marlin?) Also check out the giant flanking statues that guard the cash register. Cold and hot sandwiches, entree salads, bagels with everything, a full coffee bar, Italian sodas, beer, and a laminated table with SF Giants baseball cards from the 80s (he's got Mike Krukow!). Comfy leather chairs from which to partake of the free wifi while sipping your brew. Settle in for a little hip cafe scene in the middle of the Central Valley and enjoy. P.S. - I left $2.50 in the tip jar for a $9.50 lunch. May I suggest that if you like Rick's food and service, please tip high as the local economy is struggling and he's trying to ride out the downturn. read more
