Our kitchen and bathroom remodel was on budget and on time and it turned out better than what we expected. Shon had a great design idea and pitched it to us during the initial consultation. After a few 3D renderings were presented we moved forward. We worked with their affiliate Kitchen Bath Makers who has a wonderful showroom. We appreciated the fact that all the materials they carry are of excellent quality. We couldn't be happier with the end result.

Master bathroom

Shon and the design team did a wonderful job helping me choose the best fit and colors for my bathroom remodels. From the flooring to the shower pan, and the whisper fan to the mirror with a defogger built in.

Finished kitchen and bathroom remodel.

Blues Bros. did a beautiful job on our kitchen and bathroom remodel. We had an '80s style bathroom and kitchen that desperately needed a makeover. Batel was our project manager and she was very helpful in making sure that our project moved along quickly and smoothly. She made several suggestions that I would have not have thought of and she was very pleasant and easy to work with. The project was completed on time as promised. Blues Bros. had the most remarkable crew come out and do the work. Gabriel, his wife and son Jesus did primarily all of the labor and they were fantastic. I would highly recommend Blues Bros. for your next home remodel.

BBC replaced all our outlets, and about half of them are kinda wonky from the wall like this one.

THE PROJECT: My husband and I bought our first house in March 2021. From the inspection report, we knew it needed work (plumbing, electrical, foundation repair). We also wanted to renovate a bathroom, and then convert our garage into an ADU. In April 2021 I met with several contractors and chose Onn and Blues Brothers Construction (BBC) because of their reviews, and also because Onn was the one GC who went through the inspection report with us and talked through the problems that needed fixing. He seemed detail oriented and thorough, confident about being able to do all the work we were asking, and was reassuring and calm which were qualities I knew would be essential throughout this project. COMMUNICATION-- Once we signed a contract, (July 1, 2021) Onn disappeared and all communication was through Renee, the office manager. I was rarely able to talk to anyone who actually knew the work itself, just passing messages through Renee. It often took days or a week or more to hear back about a question or issue, sometimes having to ask the same thing over and over before it would even be acknowledged (several times I couldn't get an answer bc no one involved knew the answer about work their team did). I rarely heard from Onn, maybe 4-5 times over the 6 months that work was ongoing. BuilderTrend website was a big draw on signing, but was only really updated for invoices. Calendar was either blank, wrong, or updated after-the-fact. I'm glad I took lots of my own progress pics bc I never saw any from BBC. THE FOUNDATION- One of the key issues was a crack in the foundation. Onn was initially confident about taking this on. He charged me $10k to draw blueprints of the foundation to figure out the best way to tackle it. His team took measurements in July. It took 3 months to give me an estimate that was 10x what a competitor quoted. Finally, Onn told me he actually didn't really want to do the foundation and recommended I go to someone else for it. I felt frustrated and misled, and wish he had just been upfront about not wanting to do it in the beginning. ADU-- We hired BBC to draw up blueprints for the ADU conversion. We finalized a layout in August, were told it'd be 5-6wks to have the full plans. Mid-December the plans were still not done, I couldn't get an answer on their progress, and I was realizing I didn't want to do the ADU with BBC. I finally told them to just forget the plans and asked for a refund, Onn agreed verbally over the phone (though would later try to back out of that). Side note: In October I asked for a general ballpark estimate for vaulting part of the ceiling in the ADU. It took a full month for them to come back with an estimate of $50,000-$100,000 to vault the ceiling in a less-than 400sq ft space (others I've talked to since then said that shouldn't cost more than $20k). ROOF & MOLD- In September BBC replaced the plumbing throughout the house, then closed up the walls. In November I noticed mold and water droplets on the floor, under a baseboard near where plumbing work had been done. Onn was unresponsive. I talked with Cris about the issue, he insisted the plumbing was not the cause, his answer was "maybe someone spilled a drink inside the walls before closing them up." Thankfully I had taken a lot of pictures along the way and realized the problem was two vent pipes in the roof that BBC left unflashed, and water poured in during a recent rain causing a lot of mold to grow inside the walls. Four times in the next 4 wks BBC assured me they had fully taken care of the mold, only for me to find more mold and more work needed. They didn't follow standard practices for mold remediation, never got a dehumidifier to dry out the space, or even enclose it to prevent mold from spreading. At one point a moldy piece of drywall was left sitting on my kitchen counter over the weekend. I finally hired my own mold remediation specialist, he took care of it in 5 days. I never got a satisfying apology from BBC, only "mistakes happen that's part of doing construction work." MISC- Since moving in we've found many other things that were not done properly, sloppy finish work. Touch-ups are one thing, but for example the EV charger they installed wasn't even hooked up to the electrical panel; no caulk around bathtub; outlets askew from the wall; etc. CONCLUSION-- The work was finally completed in early January 2022. Final paperwork wasn't signed till April bc Onn kept agreeing to things then going back on them, and tried to get us to 1. Give up our warranty and 2. Sign a non-disparagement clause (to not allow a bad review). BBC agreed to work outside their usual scope with our project, assuring me they were qualified, but then made many mistakes that caused delays. Needless to say, we are using a different contractor for the ADU conversion.

We recently had our kitchen remodeled by Blues Brothers. The quality of the work was superb. The project was completed almost on time. Midway through, our project manager left Blues Brothers, causing some communication issues until management stepped in to oversee the completion. We are extremely happy with the workmanship, materials, and final result.

I contacted Blues Bro back in late 2020 and then we went over some things. In the mean time I contacted other agencies as well trying to see where I get the most value for my money, it was here. I locked in the contract, to the person getting work done please go back and forth and negotiate. I hired them so that I would not have to deal with contractors for my adu.. I was happy on my results and how my project turned out to be. I gave my own rough blueprints to Blues Bros which helped a lot. Project mgn was Sussan and cordinators changed but Renne was very, very helpful. Payments were done in installs of each step the project goes through.. they have an app it tells you when the payment will be done. I bought most of my own stuff, even though they have inventory inhouse. I would recommend to future client, negotiate, read the contract and be upfront with budget and leave a little buffer. Have communication with both contractors and Blues Bros. Be on top of things right away from the first second. Get the number of the contractors and there boss and ask for weekly of daily status of work. If something is off have chat with both Blues and Contractors right away. Everyone has the same end goal, which is to finish the job so stay on top of it. Attached are some pics to kinda give you an idea.

Our remodel was completed a year ago. It seemed only fair for me to post the review based on using this kitchen and seeing how the workmanship faired. In addition, I was waiting to see if Blues Brothers would help with any issues that arose later on and held up their end of the workmanship warranty. I interviewed 4 companies and ultimately decided on Blues Brothers because I connected with the project manager and was very excited to be working with another female. The other 3 companies I interviewed, came to the appointment starting off with "will your husband be joining us?" At this point, if you are a real contractor you must be a complete moron to think that the husbands are the ones calling all the design shots. This shows a lack of experience and an elevated ego. So no thank you to misogynistic attitudes. With Blues Brothers, I hit it off with the assigned project manager and she was wonderful at the meeting. She really listened to what I had in mind and was very reassuring. All this came to a screeching halt when I signed the contract. Once my contract was signed, I was immediately ghosted. Not a word. When I was finally contacted, Renee the office manager took over my project. The company only told me that the PM had a family emergency and would not be on my project going forward. Fine, I'm not cold-hearted and I would have completely understood if she had told me or given me a heads up but weeks went by without a word on her whereabouts. As much as Renee was good at being the messenger between me and the subcontractors, she did not see my kitchen at all. How do you manage a kitchen remodel without ever seeing the home? All these other project managers that I read about on Yelp and even the owner of the company were completely nonexistent in my project. You would think that the owner himself would reach out to me especially when his own project manager abandoned the project right off the bat. Not at all. Not a peep. My project was very straightforward and I had purchased all the materials and finishes ahead of time since this was not my first remodel. (My previous contractor for my other two home remodels moved out of the country so I had to see a new one.) I was completely in shock at what was unfolding. This was not a way to start off a kitchen remodel. I wanted a project manager for this project because I wanted a professional. I assumed BB could handle it because they have project managers but of course, I did not end up having one. I should have received a discount because I paid for a PM and did not receive one! The remodel was then contracted out to subcontractors who seemed to understand remodeling about 50% of the time. My backsplash tile work seemed okay but the grout was left on the tile without cleanup. The nail holes were not patched up and the cabinet doors were not attached properly leaving a wide gap in between the doors. The doors were not adjusted properly and to this day, it still looks off. Another company came to work on another cabinet project for us last week and it looks like I will have to hire them to fix these doors I have only had for a year. BB will tell you to go to their cabinet partner next door but I will say, you will need to proceed with caution. The subcontractor that BB hired to install my countertops did not do as nice of a job as I would have liked. The countertop seams are noticeable and did not look professionally done. The edges on the countertops don't look smooth either like they haven't been sanded or smoothed out. The whole point of having a project manager was so I did not have to look into every single issue since that's not my job. Each issue that rose took weeks to resolve. In the end, I never thought I would be among the contractor fail stories. I guess you never know what you really get. Even the contract with the warranties and workmanship guarantees is really meaningless. It only causes more time and stress to reach out, hoping they can help with a solution, which by the way I have not received a response to. My emails have bounced back saying the email address is now undeliverable. I also shared my sentiment with their post-project review as well as their team who came in to take photos. In the end, what's done is done. I am grateful to be able to even go through a kitchen remodel and if I can help another homeowner in their remodel journey then at least there's some salvation.

Notice the backslash. That's Heath Tile turned subway offset.

Mika was our project manager and she helped us navigate the process of designing and brainstorming the kitchen and told us what was in our power to do (the kitchen is a small space). As far as quality is concerned, the contractors that Mika worked in coordination with were friendly (the Farcon crew) and kept things pretty clean throughout. I'd recommend them for a kitchen project for sure.

Overall the experience was very good; Elijah and Bryan were super friendly and responsive. Eli was very patient and accommodating as we discussed several different potential change orders, from new windows to painting, to other misc. things that popped up. Bryan Luna was especially a pleasure to work with. His attention to detail and proactivity to solve any little thing I mentioned was definitely the highlight of working with Prime. Their contracted electrician, Hector, was great as well. I also think they did a great job building out a cabinet to fit our freezer next to the matching fridge. Their master carpenter managed to salvage our existing wood to make it match perfectly. Definitely better than what I'd expect from even a carpentry specialty contractor. I will mention that it wasn't without some snags. Prime deals in volume so they're very busy. I think because I had delays in sourcing a freezer I ended up not getting a dedicated project manager for some time. We had timeline issues made worse with holidays. This caused cascading delays which inevitably pushed back my move in date a few weeks. When I finally did get a new project manager, they ghosted me (later on I found out they had a family emergency). Eli had to step in again to help. Another thing is that their pricing is quite opaque. The estimate will break down prices by milestones, but they repeated told me that it's not a valuation of the milestone itself. This made it nigh impossible to understand if I wanted to contract out specific pieces of the project (e.g. flooring). Design was OK. I felt that the designer was very busy. Sometimes very responsive (5min replies), sometimes not responsive at all (no reply). I wish I had a better, more thorough back-and-forth session about the intricacies of the design. But we made do. Ultimately, the designer made a render and helped point us to some vendors, but from there we had to make our own selection alone (cabinets, handles, pendant lights, faucets, etc.). I did appreciate her presence when we picked out countertops, though. All in all, I think this was a 4.5 star job, but I'm rounding to 5 because of Eli and Bryan :)

We contracted Prime Design & Build to remodel two bathrooms, a laundry room, a staircase, and to…read moreinstall hardwood flooring. Overall, the project went well, and we're happy with the final results. Bryan, our foreman, was a strong asset to the project. Even though he was managing multiple jobs at the same time, his responsiveness and willingness to go out of his way to address our concerns made a big difference. Because we were home throughout the process, we were able to catch issues early and communicate them directly to Bryan, who consistently followed through to resolve them. What Went Well: * The tile and flooring subcontractors were excellent - their craftsmanship and attention to detail truly stood out. * Bryan, our foreman, was responsive to texts and phone calls, listened to our concerns, and made sure they were addressed. He even designed a bi-fold closet door for us, and helped pick up all the material to build it. * Bryan also took the initiative to handle several unfinished items himself, which we really appreciated. * The post-build cleaners were top-notch and left the space in pristine condition. * Throughout the project, everyone we interacted with was professional, courteous, and conscientious. There were no conflicts or issues, which made the experience comfortable for us. Areas for Improvement: * The timeline was a pain point. While we were originally told the project would take 6-8 weeks, it ended up stretching to 12 weeks. * The design process fell short of expectations. Because Prime's in-house designers weren't available, our design work was outsourced. We only received a full design package for the master bathroom. As a result, we ended up creating our own renderings for the other rooms to help communicate our vision to the team. That said, we were very happy with the design and material selections for the master bathroom they did complete. We just wish the same level of attention and design support had been provided for the rest of the project. * At times, resource availability was limited, likely due to workers being assigned to multiple jobs. This led to workflow inefficiencies and delays. Toward the end of our renovation, our foreman Bryan had to personally step in to complete several tasks, such as installing faucets, shelving, and baseboards. He managed to get it done in between site visits and meetings, which we appreciated, but it also highlighted a lack of available crew to close out the project. Despite these few challenges, the quality of the work met our expectations. We appreciated the team's effort and the final outcome.

The scope included a complete renovation of the kitchen, master bathroom, family room wet bar, and powder room, along with extensive upgrades to electrical systems, plumbing fixtures, flooring, drywall, and interior painting throughout a two-story home. Project Scope & Timeline The project spanned approximately nine months, from Q3 2025 through Q1 2026. This included: * 2.5 months for contractor selection and contract negotiation * 2 months for permit application * 3 months for construction and implementation * 1.5 months for finalizing the paperwork and permit status Jay and his team handled the permit application process and completed the construction phase on schedule and within budget. Notably, change orders were kept under 5% of the total contract value, which is commendable given the project's complexity. Overall Assessment Jay Construction delivered solid results in terms of execution, cost control, and quality. While there were some challenges--particularly around communication and project management--issues were generally resolved in a collaborative and reasonable manner. Based on our experience, we assign an overall rating of 4 out of 5 stars. One important consideration for future clients: Jay manages multiple projects simultaneously and may not always be readily available. Homeowners who are willing to stay actively involved--especially in communication and coordination--will likely have a smoother experience. ======================================= Detailed Breakdown by Work Category 1. Electrical Work (9/10, weight 20) Handled by a licensed team (Caesar & his team, Alpha Valley Electric), the electrical work was efficient and well-coordinated. Rough and finish phases were completed in a day each, with additional visits for inspection fixes. High marks for responsiveness and execution. 2. Plumbing Work (8/10, weight 20) The plumbing contractor (Mark) demonstrated strong attention to detail. While this area generated the most change orders due to unforeseen issues with existing piping, problems (including two leaks) were addressed promptly and professionally. 3. Carpentry (9/10, weight 20) * Kitchen Cabinetry & Ventilation (9/10, weight 15): Kornei & team, high-quality installation with complex ventilation work executed to code. * Wet Bar Cabinetry (9/10, weight 5): Viktor, excellent craftsmanship and attention to detail. 4. Countertop Installation (8/10, weight 10) Mario & his team of three. Quartz countertops were installed cleanly across multiple areas, with good overall results. 5. Master Bathroom Renovation (9/10, weight 10) Viktor. This portion stood out for its quality. Waterproofing, Wall & Floor tile work, and fixture installation were all completed to a high standard. 6. Flooring (9/10, weight 20) Navruz Flooring, team of 3. Luxury vinyl plank flooring and Baseboards were installed throughout the home, including stairs. The results were consistent and professionally finished. 7. Drywall & Painting (Mixed Results, weight 20) * Initial Work (6/10, weight 10): Ali & team. Drywall texture quality was below expectations, though painting was acceptable. * Redo Work (9/10, weight 5): Smart Painting. After concerns were raised, Jay allowed us to bring in an alternative team (paid with contract dollars), which significantly improved the outcome. * Final Touch-Ups (9/10, weight 5): VitaIy and Viktor. Excellent work. 8. Demolition & Debris Removal (8/10, weight 10) Dimitri (Kitchen, Mater Bath), Vladimir & his team (Rest of the project including all carpet, hardwood floor removal). Efficient and thorough across all phases of the project. 9. Permits & Inspections (7/10, weight 10) While Jay managed the process, we found it necessary to stay actively involved to resolve delays and clarify requirements with the building department. All inspections were ultimately passed, including final approval after two rounds. 10. Project Management & Communication (6/10, weight 20) This was the weakest area. Jay's limited availability meant we took on a more hands-on role--coordinating finished products and rough materials with subcontractors, and helping manage dependencies. That said, Jay was consistently fair and solution-oriented when issues arose, and worked with subcontractors to resolve dependencies. Final Verdict Jay Construction Company is a capable contractor that delivers good quality work at a reasonable cost and timeline. Their subcontractors are generally skilled and reliable, and the company demonstrates flexibility when addressing problems. However, the experience benefits significantly from active homeowner involvement, particularly in communication and day-to-day coordination. If you are prepared to take on that role, Jay Construction can be a strong partner for a comprehensive home renovation project.

All prior interior work in our house had been done by handyman. I really appreciated the communication from our project manager Marc. He created a WhatsApp chat with me and the incredible designer Jocelyn. They were both consistently responsive to any of my questions or concerns -- and opened my mind to design options. Jocelyn spent time in our home, drafted plans, took me shopping, and sourced all the fixtures. From her spreadsheet I was able to find less expensive options for some items. I appreciated the input and control I had on these expenses. Since we needed to move out, I had a tight timeline for the project -- mid October until Thanksgiving. Marc and the team did their best despite City of San Jose delays with inspections. We were able to move back in before the final inspection. Every member of the team was kind and courteous. Marc also did a great job working with the window vendor that specializes in older homes. I'm rating the experience a 4.5 out of 5 for two reasons. I was disappointed that the medicine cabinet, switch plates, and hooks were initially installed unevenly (it was corrected). I expected more attention to detail. And I was disappointed in the wear & tear that happened on my wood floors as well as the overall dust in my dining room. I was warned that things would get dusty -- but didn't understand the extent and would have packed away more things. WISE offers lots of support with design -- they could also offer as part of their package a full cleaning! I offer this feedback to help others calibrate their expectations. Overall it was a positive experience. I waited several months to post this review until I returned from travel and could see how things were settling after regular use. I'm loving the new bathroom and recommend WISE.

Their crew remodeled our bathroom and laundry room, put in new flooring, and updated the lighting in our kitchen -- and everything turned out wonderful. From the start, they really listened to what we wanted and gave us great advice on both the look and the functionality. They also helped us solve a few pre-existing issues we didn't even know were lurking until the construction started, and their fixes were solid and thoughtful. Communication was a breeze -- Jacob and Adir kept us in the loop, coordinated everything smoothly, and made sure the work stayed on track. During the process of removing our old flooring, Daniel discovered that our staircase wasn't up to code and could've caused injuries or become a liability. Thankfully, he caught it early and quickly came up with a plan and design mock up for a brand new staircase. The new stairs look incredible, feel super solid, and are up to code, even the nosing and measurements are perfect! Daniel's craftsmanship and attention to detail really show. On top of that, he even fixed our front French doors that had been rubbing by tightening the frame just right. Something that had been bugging us for months... Daniel and his crew were punctual, professional, and easy to work with. Their pricing was very fair, the quality was top-notch, and they even finished the job ahead of schedule. Really pleased with how everything turned out! From the start, Zion's quote was more detailed than other contractors we talked to, which gave us a lot of confidence that they truly understood the work involved. The team also worked really well alongside our other third-party contractors and designer, making the whole process feel coordinated and smooth. One thing we really appreciated was how they handled changes along the way. When our requirements shifted, they adapted easily and offered great feedback on ways to simplify our design to save time and money. The team showed up on time each morning, cleaned up before leaving every day, and were always respectful and courteous. They made a point to ask questions and check in to make sure everything was being done to our satisfaction. Their attention to detail showed in the finishing touches, and whenever something wasn't quite right, they were more than willing to fix it. The project finished on schedule and mostly on budget. The final result looks wonderful and the quality is solid (the photos speak for themselves). If you're looking for a reliable team for your remodel, I'd happily recommend Brother & Brother Builders!
