One of them has memorized my salad order which is a bit convoluted and I just say "My salad today please"; Joel never makes a mistake. Bluegrass always serves up a great meal and wonderful atmosphere. Tonight we shared a selection of the Mardi Gras appetizers. Yum yum! The BBQ Shrimp, Aligator Bites, Crawfish Tails, and Boudin were excellent. This is our favorite restaurant and look forward To returning soon. read more

bluegrass is an excellent restaurant! Service atmosphere, building, dining area parking lot and menu all on point. Food delivery is gas and precise. There is very little to criticize here. I had the Waygu brisket platter and substituted the mashed potatoes for peanut brittle beans and added a side of corn lobster risotto. I may be picking on the kitchen a bit but the beans were obviously canned and the risotto was made with regular white rice not Arborio rice. Slight shortcomings but since this place was fantastic across the board I can't understand cutting some corners in the kitchen. With all due respect this place is a true gem. It has to be difficult to execute such a diverse menu but I can see that some short cuts would be helpful. If they have all this talent they should be diligent with the details. read more

Came here for our 25th anniversary dinner and I'm glad we finally tried them! The service was really good. Staff was so nice. I went with the bluegrass martini, didn't even taste like alcohol but it packed a punch! It was so good & refreshing! My SO said his dirty martini was made perfect. We started with the tomato, basil, mozz cheese and everything was so fresh! I went with a petite filet medium, it was cooked to well done but it was still soft enough to eat. The green beans were perfect! So fresh and nice snap! The mashed potatoes, let me tell you! I could eat them as a meal! Soooo good! My sig other had the fettuccine Alfredo & he loved it! Nice and creamy and so much flavor! Being our anniversary, they also gave us a banana fosters dessert (forgot to take a pic), I'm not a banana fan but wow! This was so good! The vanilla ice cream was so creamy and the caramel was perfectly sweet. I ate around the bananas and i would order it! read more

Just a fabulous restaurant. Joni knew it was our anniversary and was so incredibly thoughtful. I had the Crawfish Etouffee and my wife had the Jambalaya. Both were as good - or better - than anything we've had in New Orleans. Joni brought a Bananas Foster dessert at the end of our meal that was so great it made our heads spin like the young girl in The Exorcist. Our very favorite restaurant!! read more

Went for a work function with about a dozen of us, we were seated promptly and the servers were very attentive. The menu was pretty diverse. We started with a couple apps. The calamari was served in a giant Martini glass which was pretty cool. They were cooked well, not rubbery at all. They had giant fried onions in there as well. That was a little too much for my taste but people liked them. We also had the mushroom app, presented nicely and also cooked pretty well. I had ordered the blue cheese encrusted filet and wanted it MR, it came out closer to MW, very little pink. I did not say anything as I was with a group of 12 and didn't want to hold everyone waiting for a steak to be re-fired. So to be fair in this review I gave 4 stars, since I did not give them a chance to correct the issue. I would come back to try other stuff, the grouper looked really good that my co-workers had. Bluegrass does many things well. Even though it was mobbed on a Saturday night, our reservation for six people was honored promptly. Our server, Trinidad, began by pouring water with a flourish. The owner stopped by the table three times to ensure everything was satisfactory. The menu is extensive, maybe a little too much so. We appreciated several items were available in smaller portions, which was thoughtful. The food was very good as were the craft beers. Another nice thing was the option of getting a salad instead of fries. The Bananas Foster came in three sizes, which was also a thoughtful touch. The only slight negative was parking. Came here for a work function, it is quite a small restaurant inside but has a lovely bar and wonderful attentive staff including bartenders and wait staff. We had the steak which was delicious. But my friend recommended the jambalaya which was delicious and made in the house. I love the creole spin on the cuisine In the summer they have a beautiful patio. read more

This is my 3rd trip here, each time I'm amazed with the friendly staff and owners. Love the food but I love their people and their attitude as much. Each time I tried something different. This trip I tried the burger and the taste was amazing. BBQ and blue cheese are two of my favorite things on a burger and then add incredible crispy orings with a side of smoky cheese grits. Ending up with a sample of two desserts, the chocolate chip bread pudding of which I would fight for and my new winner the tasted banana foster, super wow!!! I will miss this place dearly. Last Saturday, I held a bridal shower at Bluegrass and I was so delighted with the way everything came out. Joanie was so kind and easy to deal with. The staff was warm and accommodating, the food was delicious and they allowed us the use of the whole restaurant! Joanie had great ideas for us as far as decorating and where to put presents etc. It looked beautiful! I thought the pricing was very reasonable as well. Another bookmarked place checked off for me, yay! I initially used Open Table to make reservations but there was no availability so I tried calling the place and they were able to accomodate the time and day that I wanted. We got to Bluegrass at 7:30pm on a Friday night and it was really busy. We just waited for a few minutes for our table to be set up and this is when I've observed that a couple of the hosts were the owners and they personally greeted everyone who came in to the restaurant and all of the happy customers leaving as well. We were seated in a corner booth which was perfect and our friendly and attentive server gave superb service from beginning to the end of our first dining experience at Bluegrass. He gave complimentary chips & salsa and he also mentioned that the Cinco de Mayo specials featured in the menu are temporary. Their entire menu has a variety of cuisines to choose from... Mexican(for Cinco de Mayo), BBQd meat, Asian dishes, a couple of pasta, seafood, cajun/creole and a few steaks. The reason why I've bookmarked this place is because of the pictures of the Southern dishes that I have been seeing on yelp threads. Here are the food items that I have tried: MUSHROOM BOIL $11.95- delicious appetizer. The mixture of mushrooms and melted Gruyere cheese on top of grilled Italian bread was perfect. REAL CRAB CAKE $16.95- the one piece of crab cake was delish but I personally think it is not worth its price. CHICKEN & SHRIMP w/side of Dirty Rice $22.95- the shrimp was tasty and cooked perfectly but the chicken was flavorful although it was a tad dry for me. The rice was full of delightful flavors and gave the chicken & shrimp a lot of boost to give a little overall "moist" to the dish, otherwise, it would have been a really dry and flat dish. SMOKED DUCK TACOS $18.95- this was from the Cinco de Mayo specials. The meat had a great smokey flavor but it didn't have the usual juiciness of duck. The taco itself could have used more garnishments like cilantro & onions although the side of rice and beans were good. BREAD PUDDING- this was free with my yelp check in. I am not a fan of bread pudding so I will not comment on this dessert. Overall, it was a delightful experience because of the wonderful service from our server and the owners. They checked on us a couple of times, just like what they were doing the whole night with other customers. I was eyeing on the other dishes being served and I already know what I will try next. They also have an extensive selections of alcoholic beverages. To be honest, the place is pretty pricey even for the location but foodwise, I personally think that the taste did not match the price. Perfect, food, service, ambience. This is an authentic southern and New Orleans menu. We had the jambalaya which was flavorful, huge chunks of sausage and chicken, veggies and rice, nice spices, large portion. The grouper was moist, flavored well and fantastic. We also has a complementary fried alligator appetizer which was juicy and flavor filled. Very nice touch. Service was excellent. read more

Every time I come here I tell myself that I need to come here more often. The service and food is excellent. Our bloody Marys came with a beer chaser just like in Wisconsin! The beer is brewed for Bluegrass and made my desire to come back here even greater. (yes I forgot the name) My wife had a pecan coated tilapia that was excellent. It was served hot and fresh. My jambalaya with shrimp added for an upcharge, was not served as hot but very good. The hit of the meal was the gumbo sampler that was free with the Yelp check-in offer. The ribs are daBomb and so was the Jambalaya. My friend ordered chicken with artichokes and it was scrumptious. I ordered the shrimp and grits and it was good but I thought the grits needed to be a bit cheesier. Service here was great! Kudos to Nicole! My only complaint was that for an establishment serving Louisiana cuisine, they need more heat. They should be more selections of hot sauce other than Tabasco. I'll be back though! read more

It has been years since I've been to bluegrass but it's as good as ever. I love the bread with cinnamon butter that they bring to the table. They have a smaller size of the calamari that is perfect. For 25 years I've been trying to replicate the mushroom broil at home. Should be easy. Mushrooms, cheese, bread, garlic--- but I can't seem to match the perfect balance they achieve. The tilapia sassafras is always delicious. And it's nice they offer it in 2 sizes. Their wine list is good and service is always great. Luke took care of us this time. He was friendly and informative. When we asked a question he didn't know the answer to he found the answer and came back right away. read more

Wow! I am impressed and can't believe I haven't tried this place yet! I decided to give it a try tonight because I had a gift card. Every single item I tried was DELICIOUS! It's not common to find a place this good in the suburbs! I'll start with the bread and cinnamon butter, it is to die for! Then the chopped salad was very fresh and had a flavorful dressing. The bbq corned beef was unlike anything I've ever eaten, and had a great smoky flavor and was extremely tender. Side dishes of creamed corn, mashed potatoes, and potato wedges were all seasoned well and tasted homemade. The side of shrimp and grits and rice and crawfish did not disappoint. They were both rich and packed with flavor. Everything was done well, even down to the flavor of the barbecue sauce. Prices seemed reasonable for the quality of the food and the staff got our take-out order 100% correct. I definitely plan on adding this to my list of local go-to's! read more

Tucked away, definitely off the beaten path, Bluegrass is a hidden gem in Highland Park. Great cajun menu - the gumbo is fantastic. I loved the "shot" of gumbo on the menu - great way to get a taste without getting a whole bowl (which would have left no room left in my stomach for any other food!). I had the shot of gumbo and the small seafood salad for lunch and it was a perfectly sized meal for lunch and not too heavy.
