My husband and I visited the Blue Wolf on a rainy Good Friday night. There was a bit of a wait for a table but no where near as long as the 30-45 minutes the hostess quoted when we came in. Because it was Good Friday they had a long list of fish dishes on special so I tried the Lobster crusted trout while my husband had the Sea bass Oscar. Both were quite good but the "risotto" that we ordered as a side was disappointing as it was really just a seasoned rice reminiscent of what would come out of a rice-a-roni box. We also had the Greens as an appetizer - we are spoiled by living in Central NY where "East Utica Greens" are a local delicacy. The greens here were good but we probably would not get them again just because they are not what we expect when we get greens. The Blue Wolf is definitely pricey by local standards but I will definitely be back as some of the other entrees looked very good as well. read more

Had the worst nightmare of an experience here but please read through. My wife and I had a gift card for the Blue Wolf and we enjoyed a fine meal... No complaints... Till we had to pay. My wife had used $3.00 off the balance of $100.00 card and they had said there was no balance left on the card. They were rude to us and the servers were all staring at us and whispering to each other. We felt like criminals! It was soooo embarrassing! After a while and some investigating they had had found the cashier at fault and comped us some free desert for our trouble. Everybody we talked to said we should have had our meal on the house but I digress. We returned 2 years later and had a fantastic meal and the server was friendly and helpful. I must say that Yelp has never steered me wrong. HOWEVER, there is always a first. This restaurant has 4 stars and was recommended by a local we met at out hotel bar. The service was great, and that gets 1 star on its own. The artichoke and spinach dip was excellent, there's another 1 star. My food the Orange roughy and scallops was good, both my husband and daughter did not like their ribs and steak. We travel alot and I live by Yelp while we are travelling. The salads were good. I wanted to give 1 star. I have been here a couple times and it never gets better. We visited with my dad recently for an early Father's Day celebration. This is where he wanted to go. It started okay. Salads and appetizers were definitely not fine dining. Waited 30-40 minutes for dinners after that. I finally had to ask another waitress where they were. Our waitress never stopped at the table. My mom and dad both got steaks that were suppose to be medium and medium-well. My mom's steak was a piece of burnt beef jerky - black. They definitely do not know how to cook or get well cut steaks. I refused to let her eat it. We did have another steak brought out. It was ok. They both said it was like chewing through shoe soles. They did not offer a discount. I am okay with that, but they really should have offered her something. We will not return. read more

Have eaten there several times and have always had a great meal. Always best to make reservations if possible cause they do get busy. I've always felt going out to eat is less about money spent for this and that but more for the enjoyment of the food, the company you are with, atmosphere and how you are treated by the waitstaff. Money is the last consideration for a good meal, good time out, and good company in my book. If one has to be concerned if something was 9 bucks instead of 8 bucks down the street would ruin the whole experience for my husband and myself. Great dinner! I moved out of Youngstown 33 years ago and boy oh boy, this place reminded me of the great Ytown Italian food that I have missed for so many years!!! I ate fried cheese for an appetizer and the provolone was gooey and you don't red sauce like that on the west coast!! I ate chicken parm for dinner with the same great sauce and the chicken was was incredibly tender (no knife required) and just lightly breaded with a very fine bread crumb. Because I consider myself a connoisseur, I couldn't resist adding a meatball to my side of angel hair pasta. By FAR the best meatball I have EVER eaten. The only reason I did not give it a 5star is because the outside of the building needed a bit of attention (ashtray right by the door full of garbage, sidewalk needed a scrub brush or pressure washer and the garbage can on the corner smelled horrible... Been going there for years and never once have we had any issues food, service, drinks etc..... always have a good time. But when we went tonight, the hostess was rude. Never greeted us and We sat in the front dining by the door. Never got offered where we prefer our seating ( we always get asked) then when we sat we asked if there was bar seating available. She said no then sat 3 other tables in the bar. And no the other tables didnt have reservations. I never complaint about service but I am in the service industry and I could never imagine being rude to a customer that frequents my restaurant. So maybe some training skills and proper etiquette should be given to her. read more

Of the 50+ times we have eaten dinner at Blue Wolf Tavern, last evening 4-15-22 was the first time I have left the establishment highly disappointed in my meal. I ordered from the specials menu, Jamaican Jerk Grouper, I tried 2 bites, and asked my wife to try a bite. I have had Grouper for 100's of meals, having lived on the Florida Gulf Coast for 8 years. I could not be sure what was served was even Grouper, it was so dried out, over cooked and tough, it was indistinguishable and not edible!!! The piece of shoe leather on my plate was quite small as well. The 3 bites mentioned above were all that was chewed on (not eaten), I reiterated my opinion of the meal to our server, who apologized but made no indication of offering to speak to the management regarding my complaint. I probably should have insisted to speak to management myself but instead paid for the uneaten meal and left! Not at all what we are accustomed to when going to Blue Wolf for dinner. The only saving grace was the Shrimp Alouette appetizer was as delicious as usual. read more

I have never had a bad meal here. The Blue Wolf Burger is outstanding and always cooked to perfection. The Zucchini Parmesan is excellent. The Pizza is very good, as well. My only complaint, and it's not even about the food, is the fact that when I have called for takeout, I have been put on hold and no one has ever come back to the phone to take my order. This has happened about 3 times over the last six months. So, I'm knocking one star off for that. read more

My son and I attempted to eat at Blue Wolf last night at approximately 8:00 PM. We asked for a seat in the dining room. She gathered two menus and turned to us and stated that they close shortly (between 15 to 30 minutes). I replied to her that I thought they took orders until 9:00 PM. I was shocked, because I go to Blue Wolf at least once a week. I stated that I would call the next day to clarify hours. The hostess then changed her mind, apologized, and wanted to seat us. The service was excellent. The food was great, a little too much pepper on most things. The Brussels sprouts were amazing. Fillet medallions were cooked perfectly. We came in for my wife's birthday celebration tonight, along with her family from out of town. The food and service was suburb. The grilled lamb lollipops were seasoned and grilled to perfection along the the vegetable fried rice with yum yum sauce (it was So YumYummy)! My wife had a full rack of "fall off the bone" ribs that were so tender and good. My mother-in-love had the pork chop with an amazing sauce. My father-in-love had one of the best juicy hamburgers cooked perfectly to his liking along with fries. My sister-in-love had the chicken fajita wrap that was so fresh and seasoned to perfection. I went here on a business trip for dinner. Overall, the casual atmosphere was what I was looking for after a longer day. We had the barbecue wings for appetizers, which I would say were better than average. I had the Blue Wolf burger, which had crisped blue cheese and the burger was nicely blackened on the outside. Overall a nice dinner. The only criticism I'd have is that our waitress was not very attentive but she did get us everything we needed, but it was a good thing we weren't in a rush. I've been going to Blue Wolf for years and I can confidently say that they have the best wings in town. I have tried many of the flavors and the mild wings are delicious. They are a tasty combination of dry rub and sauce. They aren't too hot. Today I tried the boneless Buffalo Ranch wings. They were coated in sauce which is very good in my book. The fries are great as well. The ambience of the tavern is great and it's dim but full of character. From the wolf on the fire place to the comedic "regulars" that sit around the bar. Just like Cheers! Ha ha! The staff was very helpful and friendly. Would totally recommend. read more

Finally stopped in for dinner have been hearing about great lunch items from the mrs who stops when she is in the area for work. The food definitely did not disappoint very delicious and a great atmosphere and clean! The nacho appetizer was amazing the mrs got a buffalo wrap with fries it was great and good size the fries were not on the same level as the rest of the food but not terrible. I had cod with perfectly steamed veggies and delicious wedding soup. They have Blue Moon on draft always a plus! Went to The Blue Wolf with my husband and father. It's really hit or miss. If you do go, order the chicken & ribs. My husband raved about the meal. The calamari appetizer was also delicious. Avoid the Dijon mustard Pork chop. It's swimming in this vinegar/sour sauce. Awful. I took it home for the dog & washed off the sauce. Even she spit it out. My father had the orange roughy. Had chicken Parm that has been good before but tonight it was not hot and by the time I got a few bites from the edge the cheese wasn't even melted. Got a baked potato since I can't eat pasta, which was fine but came on a small side plate with a large potato. Difficult to eat. Why couldn't it just have been on the large plate with the chicken. My friend asked if she could get chicken Marsala even though it wasn't on the menu. She was able to get it but it only came with one side and was $19. For chicken? The salads were wilted lettuce with one rotten cherry tomato, one small piece of cucumber, and one black olive. Definitely not a great day in the kitchen. I will say the service was excellent. Located at the end of a strip mall, in an area of strip malls, the Blue Wolf dinning room has an upscale (but relaxed), warm atmosphere that compliments the menu. From seafood, to steaks, pasta and ribs, they offer a variety of options that left me bouncing between several choices right up to our server taking our orders. She was able to help answer questions that led to our ordering the pork chops, strip steak, ribs, and lobster ravioli with a portobello topper. All come with fairly typical side salads. My dad and brother loved the sweet potato fries and my uncle kept talking up the amount of fall off the bone meat on his ribs. And I may have used the bread to finish up the creamy ravioli sauce as it was just too good to leave behind. We sprang for dessert: peanut butter pie, tiramisu, chocolate cake with ice cream, and a flour-less chocolate cake. Each was a good size and rich in flavor. I for one will be dreaming of if not searching out the recipe for that flour-less cake. Pricey for a somewhat unimaginative, though well done menu (based on yummy our meals). I'd say a solid choice. I brought my Grandma to The Blue Wolf Tavern after both my aunt and cousin recomended the place. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. My Grandma has mobility issues and she uses a walker to ambulate. We accidentally walked into the restaraunt on the take-out side but the guy working there held the door and kindly directed us to the dining area. Our waitress was incredibly nice and patient with my Grandma. She was knowledgeable of the menu and made appropriate recommendations. I am a very healthy eater so I opted for the power quinoa salad with extra chicken. It was full of flavor and the grilled veggies were nice and hot. The chicken was moist and it marinated well in the light balsamic dressing. My Grandma got the batter dipped fish sandwich and side salad (instead of fries). She thought that both the salad and sandwich were very good. She worried about everything being "too much" and "too big" and she ordered a "small" pepsi. I thought it was cute when our waitress brought her a pepsi in a short cocktail glass. It looked like she was having a stiff drink! She ended up taking half of her sandwich and salad home to eat later. I thought that the portion sizes were substantial. I finished my large tasty salad and was satisfied. The ambiance of the restaraunt is cozy. Nothing too crazy or ecclectic but this is Boardman Ohio so I didn't expect too much. My Grandma commented twice about the high backs on the booths stating that this was nice for privacy. We spent some time counting the wolves in the room as there was a great deal of "wolf decor" (wolf paintings, statues, figurines, signs, etc). All in all this was a very nice experience. We will definitely add this place to our meal rotation when I come into town to visit my beloved Gram Cracker. read more
