We have been coming here for years. usually very consistent and some mild complaints here and there, but still one of our favorite places. yesterday we went for my birthday. it was crowded, we get that. But basically our server ghosted us When our food took forever to come out. We could see him all around, not checking the kitchen for our food. We finally caught him and asked for rolls since our food was taking so long. Once again, we watched him not go into the kitchen and even checked his phone in the little side room next to the kitchen. finally, someone else brought our food out. It was clear it had been sitting in the kitchen a long time. The kids' food was cold and hard. Our food was mediocre and barely warm. Our server never came back to check on us. My 12 year old said he would just eat his food because it would take so long if we ordered him something out. His grilled cheese was rock hard and cooked in oil, not butter. His onion rings were hard, dry, and cold. Same with my other son's corn dogs and fries. I ordered the full sized portion of chicken allouitte. The cheese on top was reduced to a puddle since it sat so long in the kitchen. it was also 2 small pieces of chicken when the full sized is usually 3 medium/large pieces of chicken. I usually have leftovers! it was clearly the smaller portion but I was charged for the full. My husbands pasta special tasted like something from a Lipton packet! We FINALLY received the rolls we asked for 25 minutes later and AFTER our food came. We had had enough. We finally complained about the cold food and poor service. A "manager" came over acting like a spoiled teenager condescending us that the server told her we complained AFTER we already ate most of our food. I explained to her our server never came back and someone else brought us our food. She said they use runners, and made excuses. I explained we had been there an hour and a half and even my child pointed out no one would ever come back so he may as well eat It since he was starving. She acted like we were just trying to get a freebie something and was extremely patronizing and insulting. I told his its my birthday and I'm over it and we just want to pay and leave. She then disappeared with our bill. At this point, we would have been willing to pay anything just to get out of that place! She finally came back and withheld our bill. My husband tried to grab it and his card so we could just leave and she yelled "excuse me" at him and made a scene. we Just wanted to leave and she snapped how she took $10 off our bill. whatever, we don't care about the $10, she wouldn't give him his card back and had an attitude So He tried to grab and she snapped how he has to sign it. Our server avoided us because our food took so long, it then sat in the kitchen for even longer, he never came back, and then the manager blamed us for not complaining sooner. super unprofessional And poor quality last night. read more

Saw some great reviews on this place, so me and the wife decided to give it a shot. It did not disappoint! The service and the food were excellent. We opted to sit in the bar as that's where we prefer to eat and drink. My wife said the spinach and goat cheese salad with strawberries and blackened chicken was the best salad she ever ate! I had the chicken and shrimp jambalaya and our waitress suggested substituting banana peppers for the bell peppers and that was a winner! Jambalaya has a great flavor and it was very filling. My husband and I were looking for some place new to try for his birthday. We were pleasantly surprised by the Blue Wolf Tavern. The food was tasty and made with fresh ingredients. I particularly loved the banana pepper concoction that came with the hot bread. Sooo yummy! We bought a container of it to take home. The salad was made with ultra fresh romaine, the dressing excellently seasoned. The clam chowder was also delicious. We couldn't finish our entrees because everything was so generous. Been here a number of times. Is this the best place around, no. Is it a zero-star, no again (sorry AlliH). The place does a brisk business, so waiting is a possibility. The accommodations for waiting (aka the bar) are fairly reasonable, but can get pretty packed. There are booths in the bar but frustratingly they are for diners so don't expect to walk up and nab one if the place is hopping. The food is reasonable, but a little pricey. I've had average service most of the time, but nothing to either extreme. I think of this place as a good neutral option for those wanting to meet friends or family and don't care to go to Olive Garden or Outback. If I'm looking for a fine dining experience, I'd hit the Fifth Season. If I'm looking for good Italian food at a similar price to this place, I'd go to Caffe Capri. read more

This place is the worst. The service is terrible and waited over one hour for food and we were only one of three couples in there. The waitress never took the menus or the dishes from our apps. She never asked if we wanted more to drink. Then get the bill and see a 3.5% charge on it for a credit card use. How did they know I was paying with credit or cash. My husband an I have been here twice: once for lunch and once for dinner. Our lunch experience was good, although we were seated quickly and then forgotten about for quite some time. This seems to be a theme with several reviews I have noticed. I understand the short staffing issues but am far more understanding if someone at least says hello and says they will be with you soon. Be that as it may our waitress was great and the food itself was wonderful. We agreed we really wanted to try dinner there and would just expect it to be a somewhat slower dining experience, which is fine. We had dinner there on Dec 29th, had a fine meal and another great waitress. However my husband informed me later that he was very displeased to have a $5.00 "credit card surcharge" added to his bill. If you are dining at a place which already has high price points, is this necessary? Why discourage patrons from spending more money at your establishment? We did not notice this on our lunch bill if it was there so unsure if it is only for higher price points or what. I know credit card companies charge businesses but I myself cannot help that, nor would I carry large amounts of cash I to a restaurant. Just seems petty to penalize someone. We visited this restaurant today enroute to Pittsburgh. Food quality was excellent but the bar tender needed an additional wait person to assist her as she appeared too busy for our needs. Service was okay but could have been way better with two people behind the busy bar on an NFL game day afternoon. Drink patrons certainly receive better service than those of us non drinkers and we have come to accept this as pretty standard but certainly appreciate it when we find the rare exception to this. I had the cranberry apple pork chop and my wife had the orange roughy which she also enjoyed. Salads were fresh and very well done as was the bread. Sides of mashed sweet potatoes and vegetable mix were also very good. Overall this would have been a typical 4 star review but due to the lack of attention paid us by the overworked bar tender, we had to drop down one grade. This is one of our staples when we can't figure out what or where we want to ear. We always have a good meal here and good service. It can be a little slow when they're busy but that's understandable. The pork chop is my favorite meal and is always dependable, buttery, and delicious, and delicious. One of my favorite places to eat in boardman. Prices are somewhat on the higher end, but the food has always been delicious and well worth it. The staff is friendly and considerate. I go here with a friend that has a special diet and they are always very thoughtful in taking her order. The menu features lunch and dinner specials which are always pretty interesting. The ribs are really good and my steaks have always come out cooked to the proper temperature. I've even ordered pork chop here- something I'm hesitant to do at certain restaurants because it has a tendency of coming out too tough- and it was tender and delicious. One warning I will share is that the sweet potato fries here come covered in cinnamon sugar or brown sugar, I'm not sure which it was, but it was something sweet. I personally prefer my sweet potato fries plain or just salted, so I wasn't really interested in them. I shared them with others at my table who all agreed that they were very good, but if you're like me, make sure you ask for them plain or steer clear. Another thing to keep in mind about this restaurant is that it draws a night crowd on the weekends. If you're going in for a late dinner around 8:30-9:30, be sure to be seated in the dining room area unless you want to be a part of the Club Wolf crowd, which typically starts after dinner hours end. The bar area gets really crowded and really loud, and the DJ sometimes sets up in one of the bar booths up the stairs, so try to stay out of the area, if you can. read more

One of the better restaurants in town. Great servers, great owner, great food. They have some of the best hot peppers I've ever had.

This was my first experience here with my wife and three boys. I enjoyed every aspect as we were there because we won a contest to dine with the guys from Freestyle Motocross (FMX) who were in town doing two shows at The Chevy Centre. Also with us was the promoter and the local television news anchor. The service was great and the food was even better. My wife and I both had scallop dishes and both were equally fantastic! Our waitress was very attentive and kept up on making sure drinks were refilled. The place was busy as it was 7PM on a Thursday night, but not so packed as to make you feel cramped. I will concede that due to the circumstances of who we were dining with, we may have received above average service. In the end, I know I will return and provide a follow up review as to any change in service and/or overall experience. read more

I have such mixed feelings for this place. I used to work there closer to when it opened but moved on. There was no wait at 6pm on a Friday. I ordered the greens due to Youngstown being the only place I can get them and they were amazing. They weren't too greasy or too garlicy and the bread they served them with was so fresh, warm and gooey. For dinner I ordered the Broiled Pacific Grouper, broiled grouper "served over tomato basil cream sauce." It was more like served in a vat of tomato basil cream sauce. Maybe it's my unfamiliarness with this type of sauce but it was so, so sweet and not what I was expecting. Then, there was just so much of it that it was hard to get the fish out without a ton of the sauce as well. For my side I chose a baked potato, it was a great baked potato. My entree also came with a side salad which was just a bit of iceberg lettuce and a grape tomato, they put the dressing on the salad for you. So, subpar. If I were to go back it would solely be for a beer and greens at the bar, I could do without the main meal. Their menu seemed to be centered around italian entrees but they did have other options available. My friend got a burger and her only complaint was that the bottom bun was soggy. The service was great, and that gets 1 star on its own. The artichoke and spinach dip was excellent, there's another 1 star. My food the Orange roughy and scallops was good, both my husband and daughter did not like their ribs and steak. We travel alot and I live by Yelp while we are travelling. The salads were good. It started okay. Salads and appetizers were definitely not fine dining. Waited 30-40 minutes for dinners after that. I finally had to ask another waitress where they were. Our waitress never stopped at the table. My mom and dad both got steaks that were suppose to be medium and medium-well. My mom's steak was a piece of burnt beef jerky - black. They definitely do not know how to cook or get well cut steaks. I refused to let her eat it. We did have another steak brought out. It was ok. They both said it was like chewing through shoe soles. I think it's fair to say that Youngstown isn't a destination location for food. Especially if you're a vegetarian. (although the Flaming Ice Cube vegan restaurant is pretty good) But...my boyfriend is from Youngstown so I've tried out many of the local haunts and have found The Blue Wolf to be the best. They offer hearty, mid-western comfort food. I normally opt for a mountain of penne pasta slathered in a tomato cream sauce. Hold the meat please. Really, no meatball. Yes, I'm 100% sure I don't want the meatball, but thanks for asking. Entrees are generally pretty cheap, filling, and come with some sort of side. My boyfriend and his parents typically order off off the specials menu which can have anything from a flatbread to prime rib. They generally seem pleased. When we've gone to The Blue Wolf without my boyfriend's family in tow, we've enjoyed some cocktails at the bar. $5 martinis? Hells yes. And it seems like no matter what time we're there, there are drink specials. This is my go to when I'm in Youngstown, and if you're looking for a hearty meal on the cheap, check this place out. read more

Have eaten there several times and have always had a great meal. Always best to make reservations if possible cause they do get busy. I've always felt going out to eat is less about money spent for this and that but more for the enjoyment of the food, the company you are with, atmosphere and how you are treated by the waitstaff. Money is the last consideration for a good meal, good time out, and good company in my book. If one has to be concerned if something was 9 bucks instead of 8 bucks down the street would ruin the whole experience for my husband and myself.
