Had lunch here before seeing the Boston pops. Started with martini's. Vodka and a watermelon. Both were ice cold large and yummy. Apps were steamed pork dumplings and soft shell crab. Both were very good. The crab came with tempura veggies like brocoli, sweet potato, green beans. My husband thought the crab was a little over cooked. I got recommended to go to this place by a co-worker and to say the least I was disappointed. I would of gave Blue Taleh 3 stars if it weren't for my shrimp on my Pad Thai tasting fishy. 5 stars hands down for the food but just 1 for the service. The best Thai food around this area! Must get the tuna tostados paired with a martini! I've been here many MANY times but my last 2 visits have truly been a BIG disappointment. We've had a late dinner at approximately the same time both times we went, which was about 45 minutes before closing on a Sunday and a Tuesday. The waitress/bartender who works the night shift should stay behind the bar, better yet she shouldn't be working in that kind of environment if she has poor communication skills. She was extremely rude, unprofessional, mumbled things under her breath when told what to do by her own boss (such as put cups away) and treated her customers as if they were her friends (by acting careless and sloppy). She even had a cup of some blue liquid that she sipped occasionally, HMM could it possibly be koolaid maybe? She not only forgot to enter my order in, she allowed an intoxicated woman to stand right in front of us PUKING into a bag as we were wrapping up our so called "dinner". I used to really love this place and I recommended it to a lot of people but, sad to say that I will NOT be returning here for a VERY long time. I have been wanting to come here a long time and me and my hubs came here on Saturday evening for a late dinner. When we arrived I was already happy because there was live piano music which is my fave. We were seated quickly and our waitress came to our table we ordered drinks. We ordered our food and it came out very quickly. Now this is where it turns bad. I ordered the Spicy Rice noodle soup with Chicken and he ordered the Chicken Lo Mein, mine was very flavorful very good and extremely spicy. He said his was a little too salty so he didn't enjoy it as much. But our waitress didn't come by the whole time we were eating, she didn't ask us how we were doing and didn't refill my water, at some point i had to stop eating because it was too spicy and I needed more water and then some other random person came by and asked if we were OK and I said i needed water. Our waitress was standing in the back the whole time watching us. I asked for the check someone else came and gave it to us. I really wanted to give this place a 4-5 star rating, but the service killed it for me. I shouldn't have had to wait 15 minutes for a water refill. Even for her to just come and check on us. I will go back and give the another try simply because I want to go to jazz/blues Wednesdays, but you guys need to work on your service. Blue Taleh caused me great stress and anxiety for 24 hours because I knew they had excellent Sushi and excellent Thai and nearly had a panic attack trying to decide which cuisine I wanted. My solution? BOTH! California Roll? Perfect! Tamarind Chicken? Not so much. I just think I ordered the wrong thing-I sampled the curry and it was delicious. The waiter told me not to get sushi because it would take way too long to cook since there was only one chef and while I appreciated the advice, I ordered it anyway. It came out well before the Thai food and I couldn't help but feel they were trying to trick me. My advice-GET BOTH! My dad called me while I was waiting for my party to warn me that he had read on Yelp that the drinks were very potent and if Yelpers were saying drinks were potent it must be so and so I drink very slowly. I followed this advice and drank my (overpriced?) blackberry martini at a snails pace and probably saved myself a small fortune. read more

The restaurant usually gets really packed, and i feel like there's only one or two servers. Last time i was there, we waited almost two hours for our food. I probably won't be back for a long time. This is the probably the worst place that I've ever had lunch. I ordered uber eats "duck sweet and sour" with miso soup, California roll, salad, shumai and pad Thai. The portions of everything was extremely small. The miso soup was quarter of a plastic container (not even half). Pad Thai looked like leftovers because I found a piece of scallion (one piece of scallion) in there. Duck was drown in a sause, broccoli was old (you can see it) and.... the worst part was that the two out of three pieces of duck was skin only and no meat at all (see the pic that I attached). Also, salad was romaine and 1,5 leaf of spinach. Really? Be consistent, put Romaine or spinach but don't put 1,5 leaf of spinach in it. Also, Shumai was good but no sauce was included. It suppose to be at least one packet of soy sauce, right?!?! Did I mention that I got only one California roll? Yeah, just one piece! After breath in and breath out, I ate two shumai, one California roll and throw out the rest. Will I order again? No. Will I dine-in. No. Will I recommend? Definitely not. read more

Maybe I ordered the wrong thing but my food experience here wasn't that good. My husband and I started off with the Hawaii spicy maki (a roll with eel, cucumber, covered with salmon, avocado, yellowtail, eel sauce & spicy mayo). This was good and probably the best thing I had that evening. I ordered the thai iced tea which seemed to be all sugar. It was way too sweet so I waited for the ice to melt and even added some more ice from my glass of water hoping that it'll become a bit more drinkable. It didn't happen and I didn't end up getting close to finishing my drink. I ordered their Crispy Pad Thai since I've heard that their pad thai in general is fantastic. While the first few bites were good, it had way too much sauce on it making it overly savoury and salty. I asked for hot sauce in an effort to try to cut the overwhelmingly savoury sauce but to no avail. I didn't finish it and was disappointed. It would have been a great dish if they weren't so heavy handed with the sauce. My husband had their sake don which he enjoyed and thought was a pretty standard and good dish. Preface, I ordered take out, about $100 worth of sushi. What we got was the equivalent to maybe $50 worth of sushi. The rolls tasted the same but were just named differently. The only roll I thought was memorable was what I remembered as the alligator roll? The salmon skin roll was not good at all. I've been here about 3 or 4 times and have a solid opinion of Blue Taleh and recommend it to friends that live in the area. I really love the downtown Lowell area; cobblestones, some great restaurants, trendy bars and art galleries. The city gets a bad wrap (and some areas are deserving of the reputation) but downtown is worth trying. I had a hankering for some sushi and was utterly impressed by the quality of food here! The edamame and sangria were great starters and the atmosphere was lively yet not crowded on a Friday night. My guest and I sat at a high top at the bar and I liked the proximity to the sushi rolling station. For dinner I tried a variety of different sushi rolls. What blew me out of the water was the spicy scallop roll... out of this world. That right there gave BT a 5 star rating in my book. However, upon a return to BT with a few new guests, there were a series of misfortunate events that gave me a 2 star opinion...averaging out at my 3 stars overall. First off, the place wasn't crowded but every table was "reserved" for call aheads. We almost walked out but the hostess said we could sit at a table if we promised to be done by 9pm. We stayed because I really wanted those spicy scallop rolls, but of course they were OUT of them. I picked about 2 different "back up" items on the menu and they were ALSO out of those items... I finally picked something that was in stock and it was good, but not what I wanted. The bill was really high and I just left with a bad impression and haven't been back since. I think it'd be best if I broke down my food choices to each of my experiences. Visit #1 -Blackberry Blossom Martini: There was too much blackberry puree on the bottom of the cup in this martini. It was mediocre. -Sweet Potato Tempura Maki - My first official order of Sushi ever...not bad at all. -Ginger and Scallion Chicken- Mediocre. Went in for a quick lunch in between classes craving a simple spicy yellowtail roll. It was really slow, but no hostess at the front. So I decided to sit at the bar. When the hostess finally appeared... she glared at me for sitting myself. She mummbled that it was fine and put down a menu before stomping off. I was told by the bartender that even though they don't do substitutions and it wasn't on the menu they could definitely make a spicy yellowtail roll. I was so excited until the bartender put down a plain yellowtail roll with a bowl of spicy mayo on the side. Rude and unwelcoming staff paired with bad food. Will not be back. I underestimated the popularity to this new comer and didn't make a reservation for dinner (6pm). The place is a bit small and there were only two seats left at the bar so we grabbed them. I ordered the crab rangoons and duck panang , both were delicious. My husband got California and spicy tuna maki, he enjoyed both very much. He had a martini, it was delivered in a generous martini glass and I had a mojito that was perfect. The place was packed by the time we left (7:30) and it's easy to see why. I have to revisit this review to reward improvement. Last visit to Blue Taleh, I was expecting more of the same mediocrity. Instead, I was met with quick service (the owner himself noticed and seated us) and an even faster kitchen. I ordered the pad thai, and it came out fast and hot. The bar staff was amazing as always (props to Jeanie and her martini mixing ninja skills). Add a nice crowd of people taking in the live blues/jazz band, and it was a really, really nice night. If you like Thai food, strong drinks, and good ambience you'll enjoy this place. The dining area is big enough, yet still cozy. They also have an outside patio with a view of the canal and part of downtown Lowell. The only two issues I have with this place are: 1) parking... there isn't any. You either park on the street at a meter, which can be hard to do during the day, or you park a good distance away at the nearest parking garage. 2) pricing... food and drinks for two people can easily run upwards of $75 at dinner time. I didn't get to eat here, but I did stop by for a reverse cosmo. It was pretty good. I normally am not a fruity drink person but someone was buying. It was 4 stars for creativity and taste! They used white cranberry juice and at the bottom of the martini glass was a small pile of craisins which were delicious after the drink was gone. I am not an asian food fan, however, I do want to come here and try the sushi. First day of class food review! My friend and I went out to celebrate the start of a new semester by eating out at this swanky establishment downtown. Food: -Black Dragon Roll - Recommended by our host, it had really nice presentation and tasted great. It's very light on flavor, but comes with plenty of unagi sauce. -Pineapple Fried Rice (w/Beef) - The beef was very tender and I really like the flavor. It's not like the traditional fried rice because it has larger pieces of vegetables in it. -Yellow Curry (w/Chicken) - I really liked this dish, but I think I will order it a little more spicy next time. It does have a strong coconut flavor to it, but I'm sure you could ask for less coconut flavor. (Note: I am a little biased on onion and scallion usage - I felt like they put too much in the fried rice and curry.) Atmosphere: - It's a pretty nice place on the inside. I liked the music when it was jazzy, but it turned into khmer music randomly (not that I had a problem with that). The restaurant is physically divided into three sections: the bar, the dining area, and outside seating -I can see how it'd be tough to flag down your server if they're not in your area. Staff: - We came here in the afternoon, so it wasn't busy at all. We were seated quickly, and the staff were ready to help us with recommendations. Shift change seems to be around 5pm, so if you come around that time - you should have plenty of attention. Final Thoughts: -The food was great, and the staff were friendly. DO NOT GET ANYTHING ASIDE FROM SUSHI!!! Legitimately some of the worst food I've ever had at the price point. Paid over $50 for two plates of the WORST food I've ever had and 6 pieces of sushi. The sushi was okay at best. I had ordered the yakisoba that tasted like nothing but wet, oily noodles with poorly cut vegetables. No salt, no seasoning, no flavor whatsoever. I literally didn't think that was possible. I could have gotten the same noodles at the worst Chinese place in town and it would still taste a thousand times better for a fraction of the cost. The una-yu(eel over a bed of rice) was the opposite in that it tasted so fishy from whatever eel sauce they concocted and just drowned it in. The bits I managed to get without the sauce tasted fine. I'm a huge eel fan so this was a huge letdown for me. I highly recommend no one go here for ANYTHING aside for maybe some average sushi at premium prices. read more

Went there my first time on a Saturday for lunch. Service was great and the food was great as well. My friends and I got the alligator roll, volcano maki, spider maki, and a tuna roll. Blue Taleh is a great addition to the downtown Lowell area. I've been there a number of times both with just my wife as well as with friends and out of town guests... everyone just raves about the food here. The outside dining is a great option during the warmer months, and when it is cooler outside both the "dining room" area and the bar area are very nice. The sushi here is top rate, and the thai cooking is particularly good even for Lowell with all if its southeast Asian cuisine. I have actually been to Thailand and have not had a red curry as delicious as the one they make at Blue Taleh. The staff has been consistently attentive and very nice, and the owner/operators have always greeted me as I walk in. Really a top rate place. read more
