I came across this restaurant, looking for Chinese fair with a fantastic view and go to this place to deliver. This place has an extremely lively atmosphere with local talent performing weekly. The food here is your class at New England Chinese, which isn't necessarily my preference but something that I think locals would love. We could not have had a more disappointing experience here. We'd been very hopeful for a yummy local night out, but instead found inedibly overcooked edamame, sushi that may have genuinely contained canned tuna, and waitstaff so rude they overtly ignored us, then shut off the lights to the dining room while we were still eating! The sushi looked like it had survived a small earthquake, and the chicken fingers? More like chicken disappointments -- soggy, sad, and clearly questioning their own existence. 3rd time here and the family we brought loves it as well. Food and service is always great. Staff always pleasant and helpful. My favorite server, Kelly is also our server again. Restaurant is always clean and welcoming. Nice lighting outside for the holidays. We're sure warmer months would be nice on the outdoor seating that faces the river. Came here as a group of 4 on a Saturday night. We made a reservation, but they seemed to have plenty of seating. Parking was also easy for us. The staff was super friendly from the minute we walked in to when we left. There are SO many options to choose from. The prices are reasonable and the food is delicious. First time at River Edge last night. It was a beautiful evening and we sat outside on the patio, which was lovely. My husband and I shared a Pu Pu platter for two and some pork fired rice. Lots of food and we took a lot home. Everything was delicious. The cocktails were good too although a little too sweet for my taste. There is a good wine list too. Ambiance at the bar is outstanding. What a beautiful bar and view. We could have sat outside but hung out at the jazzy bar. The bartender/barmaid was friendly, kind and attentive. We stopped in and tried the new River's Edge Asian restaurant Friday evening. It was quite busy and loud inside. Nicley renovated, with a big bar in the middle it is a very nice and comfortable space. We ordered some draft beers (the blueberry is very good) and a pupu appitizer which was delicious and generous. Visited this restaurant for the first time this past Tuesday. Started with the King Crab Tower. Although tasty, it was a mound of what seemed like seafood salad and nothing else. Needed something more as you get tired of the mayonnaise taste after a while. Dinner was the Sushi & Sashimi Boat for 2. Not the best sushi by any stretch. Everything had a strong fishy taste, not in a good way and did not live up to other places in the area. The highlight of the evening was the dry sautéed green beans! What a GREAT dish. Would definitely go back to try more of the Chinese menu! As for service, we had a new server and it was apparent she didn't know the menu. River Edge is finally open in Methuen!  After driving by the place over the past year wondering if the place will ever open. River Edge had their soft opening today in the former Jackson's Restaurant/Jon Ryan's Pub building along the Merrimack River with a great view of the water including the busy I-93 bridge. They also own Fusion Taste in Stoneham and Fusion Kitchen in Quincy.  River Edge serves up Chinese and Japanese fare including a sushi bar and cocktail bar lounge. The place was renovated nicely with a fully carpeted bright dining room in the back with tables and chairs, plenty of windows and an outside patio area along the river. I stopped by River Edge for dine-in lunch on their soft opening day. They offer Chinese lunch specials and Japanese sashimi specials and bento boxes. I was looking at the Chinese lunch specials and eventually decided on the Grilled Salmon with Ginger & Scallions ($13.50;plus tax) served with choice of rice, appetizer, and soup (dine-in only). I chose to start out with the Hot & Sour Soup which had a mix of ginger, bamboo, fresh mushrooms, peppers, cabbage, scallion in a spicy broth. The main entree arrived 10 minutes after the soup, which had a firm crisp piece of tender grilled salmon in a ginger sauce with scallions, fresh green beans & broccoli. The side of soft pork fried rice was the standard New England style, dark and smothered in soy sauce mixed with pork, peas, carrot, onions and egg. The chosen appetizer egg roll was quite good which had a hot crispy fried wrap filled with cabbage, pork & baby shrimp, duck sauce on the plate. I finished my tasty lunch and the server stopped by about 5 minutes afterwards with the check which was $14.45 with tax and before tip.  Overall, I enjoyed my filling lunch with a great view of the Merrimack River near my table. Excited to have this restaurant nearby, since I came from Boston which has great Chinese/Asian food. We ordered the Sizzling Seafood Platter. Was very disappointing as it included about 4-5 shrimp, four scallops and what I found distasteful and awful was the imitation crabmeat and fish included in the plate. It all tasted previously frozen. Imitation crab and fish is awful; it is junk and filler! The sauce was bland but the vegetables were good. It is probably a good place for sushi. We will give it another try. Perhaps they should limit their menu to fewer items instead of such a huge menu and improve their cuisine. read more

I've noticed this place driving by it the last several months wondering when it would open. And finally it's open! We decided to order take out from here tonight to try it out. I picked up the food and the inside was very nice and very spacious as far as I could tell. The atmosphere is very inviting and comfortable. They have a full bar as well. Here is what we ordered: (we are adventurous eaters) 1. Mama dumplings - pork and chive, comes with ginger sauce, a must try! 2. House Special Sizzling Lamb - sautéed sliced lamb with vegetables in a mushroom sauce 3. Mango duck with eggplant - cooked in a dark peppery sauce, this was an interesting combo, very tasty 4. Veggie fried rice - delicious! Overall, my bf and I were very pleased with our first experience. The food was fresh, prepared well, and delicious! My coworker and I had heard great things about the food at this place and it didn't disappoint. Amazingly fresh sushi, homemade dumplings, and a combo platter that was delicious and had a mix of all of my favorites. The kitchen wasn't the fastest, but our bartender Melissa checked on our food several times to ensure that the food was hot when we got it! And speaking of hot...it was like an oven in this place! I inquired with some of the obvious regulars if the AC was working, and they said it's always like a sauna in there and that the "very mean owner" apparently doesn't like to utilize the electricity to keep it comfortable. Which she certainly succeeded in doing in regards to the hot as Hades temp inside, and the awkwardness in which she made her bartenders and customers feel as she was constantly right over the shoulders of her servers behind the bar and getting in their way throughout the night! Fortunately we enjoyed the best drinks we've ever had...again compliments of Melissa who was incredibly friendly and spot on when it comes to doing her job! Nobody ever had a glass run dry, or had to ask for a thing. From the moment your butt hits the seat, she's there with menus and offering up drink or appetizers! As for the regulars? Melissa made us feel as though we had been going there for years. She's beyond incredible! Definitely will be back, and sitting at the bar! Out with the Haskell's for a big Saturday night. Was glad this place took reservations & we were seated promptly in the upstairs dining room. Place was very busy, parking lot was full. PRO-Our server was very nice & attentive. I ordered Shrimp & Veggie stir fry, Ward & Mrs. H went for the special, Mango Chicken which they really liked. My shrimp stir fry was very good, lots of shrimp & lightly stir fried in a clear sauce, CON- Mr. H got the lamb dish, about which we all said "lamb in a Chinese place? Not a good idea". Well we were right. Pieces were thin & chewy & he didn't love the sauce. Don't get lamb at a Chinese place. EH - Dishes don't come with any rice, so you have to order that separately. We ordered a large house fried rice for the table. That worked SO- At the end of the night, the bill, with our 4 drinks came to $60 a couple, which we felt was MORE than fair. Food: for asian food around methuen this i can say the best so far. I always have to go to lowell to get my asian fix. Sushi. The sushi it self not bad but the decoration thats different story. We sat on table that perfectly for 4 people. I ordered 3 types of original sushi, and 1 special chef roll. The sushi came in with gigantic 'tray'? That design with trees and pond and grass.... Where they put the sushi in. The special roll, on seperate elongated big plate. To be honest, its beautiful but we ran out of space for plates, drinks, our own plate and the chinese food on the table. If we get a bigger table thats would be awesome coz we can see everything but this? Service: its ok and not. Why? The servers are non verbal, our initial server was really good but then the owner talk to her a whole time we were there. We can see our server but they facing to other way. There a time we try to get her attention but she was too busy w her owner talking. And we have to grab a different server and they dont really happy about it. Ambiance: place is pretty clean, pretty organize. Its brand new establishment so the owner going around and greets the customer. Which is nice most table likes it. So i think i still will come back and try other stuffs again hopefully the rest of their foods are good so we can just do to go read more
