Simply Great! This was our first stop on our trip to Lowell MA. I went to this spot a few years back on my own, but I wanted to bring my family here as well. Our standouts were definitely the Angkor Wings and the Cha Kreuong. The Angkor Wings had the perfect amount of crispiness and also the perfect blend of sweet and saltiness from the sugar and fish sauce. I liked that the Cha Kreung Sach Muon was made using ground chicken. The flavor mixed well and it was easier to eat than having to chew through larger pieces of chicken. My parents thought the taste was more towards the American pallete, which seemed accurate as my friends who never had cambodian food before liked everything we had. Service was kind and quick. And the ambiance was also clean. My parents noticed the classic cambodian songs playing and was reminiscing of their younger years. Definitely a spot I would come back again. read more

There was no AC when we went. Not sure if this is all the time or not, but be prepared. They don't serve alcohol so you can BYOB. Mee katong kok noodles: Similar to a pad Thai with the wide flat noodles and pork. Quite tasty and not very spicy to me, but it never is. Lort Cha: My friends favorite dish here. She always gets it and enjoys it. With chicken or pork. Yuom: Reminds you of a Vietnamese cold vermicelli dish. This one has some different flavors and was very refreshing on a hot day. Mango fried rice: Very creative fried rice served with mango pieces and it is served inside of the mango rind. They do a similar thing with the pineapple fried rice as well. This place is off the highway but still convenient as it's pretty much down one main street off the highway. It has a few parking spaces up front and we had no problem getting one during lunch time on a saturday. This place is pretty big and I love that they didn't try to cram as many tables as possible in there. The staff are friendly and wheel out your food on carts vs carrying them on serving trays. The decor and presentation of the restaurant is very clean and modern. - unlike most other places in the area. We've tried other cambodian restaurants in lowell and they don't compare to the ambiance and vibes of Simply Khmer. I'd venture to say other places are very mom and pop style, and almost ghetto compared to this place. The food: Hot wings - are a must order! It looks like there are variations as others come with peppers or other stuff, mine only came with sauce. Based on yelp photos, seems like its hit or miss what you get? Still, tastes great. Crispy but not overcooked and the sauce is amazing. It's not too spicy either. Crispy egg rolls - they were fine but I'd skip these. They are tiny but you get 5. There is no meat so inside is mushy, but the outside is fried perfectly crisp. The soup Kuy Tiew Special - it's just basic pho soup with beef balls, fish cakes and greens. Tastes fine if you want some soupy noodles, but nothing that stands out. Still enjoyable if thats what you're after. My waitress didn't tell us the specials but I kept overhearing the male waiter tell everyone today's specials and I heard about their new chicken skin. I ordered it to try. They are thin and crispy and half the plate is pickled veggies and some jalapenos. The chicken skin is light and airy, fried crispy with some light seasoning. Worth a try at least once. overall, this is one of the more popular places in Lowell for cambodian food and I can see why. I'm looking forward to my next trip back here. It could be that not use to this type of Khmer food but loc lac translate to shaken beef. What I got was more of a deep fried beef. Maybe same same but different. Portion of beef was small compared to the amount of rice i got. Beef was flavored nicely, a bit on the sweeter side. read more

We stopped by on a Sunday afternoon and the restaurant was fairly busy. It's a casual place with some vendors in the front selling jewelry. We started off with the combo appetizer which included chicken wings, papaya salad and sticky rice. The papaya salad was nicely seasoned with a spicy kick. The chicken wings were fried well but fairly bland. For entrees we tried the stir fried noodles and lemongrass chicken. The noodles were good but had to be eaten right away or else it got hard. The chicken had a strong lemongrass seasoning and wait fairly spicy. It reminds me of the Thai Ka prow which is made with Thai basil instead of lemon grass. I have had spent part of my life growing up within the Khmer (Cambodian) community so I have had my fair share of Khmer food. Simply is a great restaurant to get introduced to the cuisine if you feel uncomfortable going to new places and trying new food. The menus are clear and accurate with descriptions. They also have a small gift/take away section. The food is top notch, extremely flavorful and consistent. The seating gives enough space between chairs but it can get loud at times but because everyone is having a decent time. The service is good, nothing bad always friendly. The prices are tad more expensive but I feel they have earned the right to charge what they charge (in a good way). read more

I absolutely loved the wings here, super duper crispy and soooo flavorful. Honestly, this is a definite must have here, both the hot and sweet/savory one (forgot the name but that's the description haha) The beef skewers were also a hit as well, good flavor and very juicy. For me, the appetizer is where it's at, maybe I just didn't get good entrees, but personally the flavors were not good to me, but others loved it. The food was so amazing that we came back twice during our vacation. It's so hard to find good Cambodian food, and this place really hits the mark. I was so bummed that they ran out of beef skewers during our first dinner here that I made sure to order them when we came back the second time. They are absolutely delicious, and definitely worth the wait. They also had the best som-law ma-ju I've ever had, it was spectacular. The soup was perfectly flavored with just the right amount of sourness, meanwhile the tripes were so well cooked and tender. Other standouts included the pork chop and the Loc Lac, both were well seasoned. The space is nice and airy with some cute merchandises in the front, including cookbooks and various items. We've been meaning to try this place for a while and finally made it over and we're so glad we did. The service was great, restaurant was inviting and clean, and the food was good. We started with the papaya salad with spicy wings and sticky rice. Everything was tasty but the wings weren't really spicy. I think they could add dry chilies and fry this dry and it would be better than this wet sauce on it which is also sweet. You can't go wrong with avocado shakes so I'll just leave that there. The noodles soup special has a nice broth to it and I ordered the fried donut sticks to dip it. On a cold day nothing beats this aside from the rice porridge. The fried noodles was very tasty as well. We were given some of their housemade chili oil and fresh basil, lime, and bean sprouts to top off our noodles with which added a nice crunch and freshness. Went here for the first time close to closing and was blown away by the place. Atmosphere is great, very chill music and vibe. Service was wonderful even as closing time came and we were almost finished eating. The food was incredible also. Big portions of clean and bold flavors for fair prices. The spicy fried calamari was some of the best calamari I've ever had, which is surprising because I typically go for calamari in Italian restaurants and it wasn't on my mind coming into a Cambodian place. Ok, I went there w my friend for her bday. The food was delicious. Specifically the beef on the stick the meat is so tender and me who very picky w meat, love this beef. I ordered lor na tofu it was delicious too. My friend had loc lac. Everything was delicious. Service is a bit slow idk if thats because not a busy dinner time or they just slow. I love Cambodian cuisine and Simply Khmer was a good place to get it. I walked in and ordered but recommend ordering online. They were a bit busy and it took about 30 minutes but I didn't mind. They kindly brought it out to my car and they were super friendly. I had trouble deciding what to order but went with the Mee Ka-Tahng Sach Ko and Ba/Cha K'nyei, two dishes I hadn't tried before. The Sach Ko is wide noodles in gravy and k'nyei is a ginger stir fry. Both were good. I definitely appreciated the copious amounts of ginger in the stir fry. It was super tasty and the ginger had a nice crispness. I loved the Chinese broccoli in the sach ko. Obviously, there are many choices for Cambodian in Lowell, and Simply Khmer UD a good one. My wife and I ordered two dishes but we didn't realize how huge the portions were. The service was excellent. The server was organized and my wife and I were seated in a timely manner. It was packed due to the water festival but luckily we didn't have to wait that long. The restaurant was a decent size and decorated very beautifully. One of my favorite Cambodian restaurants in Lowell. Love their bo luc lac and spicy beef salad. My staff even drove all the way from Dorchester to Lowell to buy that spicy beef salad. I just got a jar of beautiful Salmon Pok, freshly made from Simply Khmer that I can't wait to dig into cooking it. We were in Lowell, MA to visit the national historic site here, so, of course, we had to get some Cambodian food afterwards to make the most of this excursion. We came here for an early dinner and the place was half full with a pretty random decor that feels oddly right. Service was hard to come by at first, and our initial waiter was not very polite, but then we get a new guy halfway through and he was pretty attentive. FYI, there's no alcohol on the menu. We did enjoy the food for the most part. The crispy egg rolls were indeed crispy and a nice start to the meal. The best dish by far was the Amok Trey, the national dish of Cambodia, which had this dynamite sauce that we were in love with. So perfect and light with the fish and veggies--unfortunately, it also had a couple small bones in it. The Loc Lac combo with fried rice was also really tasty, and while we appreciated the flavorful beef, we wish that there was more of it on the plate! The fried rice was the standard stuff you usually find. Overall, we're happy to have tried this place, which felt like a special experience in this particular city. While we have no plans to return, we'd recommend it as a destination if you set your expectations accordingly. read more

First time coming here after a long morning of apple picking and couldn't have been more pleased with the food. They are only offering outside dining but still requires you to order inside so bring your sweaters since fall is here! We ordered chicken wings, kuy-tiev special, mee ka-tang special, cha kroung sach cho. The chicken wings were served crunchy with a delicious and flavorful sauce that covered it. The meat was tender and moist. The mee ka-tang had this decadent gravy that was phenomenal with the flat noodles. A good variety of squid, imitation crab meat and beef is included in the special and the same goes for the kuy-tiev special. The broth of the kuy-tiev was incredibly savory and divine as its my favorite component of any soup. The cha kroung sach cho was also a great dish with even more tender meat and a slightly sweet taste, great with white rice (which isn't automatically included). I loved the amount of bell peppers, onions and jalapeños cooked with the beef. The drinks were also a pleasant surprise. The Thai iced tea was perfect in my eyes, not too creamy or sweet and I don't usually gravitate towards these types of drinks. The durian smoothie had a satisfying sweetness and creaminess without having the overwhelming durian taste. Service was great as well. Couldn't have had a better first visit. Honestly surprised with the 3.5 star rating (not that that's a bad rating) because the food was phenomenal! Heard Lowell, MA was basically "Little Cambodia" but I've put off trying Cambodian food until now and man...regrets! Should have ventured out sooner. I decided to try Simply Khmer on a whim and was not disappointed. I am Vietnamese so I thought it was amusing how a lot of their menu items are very similar to ours - just with a slightly different spin. I got the Bai Loc Lac which is the Cambodian version of the famous Vietnamese dish: Bo Luc Lac (shaken beef). The steak tips were bomb! I loved the flavor and the meat was just so so tender and cooked perfectly. The Vietnamese version is saucy while the Cambodian version isn't - the flavor is infused into the meat which I like. Instead of steamed white rice I opted for fried rice for a few bucks more and that was delicious as well. Highly recommend the Bai Loc Lac! read more

Ordered dinner online for pickup at their website, which is super helpful with pictures and descriptions. There was a small parking lot in front of the restaurant. The restaurant looks clean and the service was good. I would say outside the restaurant, the location looks run down with shady characters around. But don't judge the food by the location. Now, for the food. Bok-lo-hong (Papaya Salad). This is shredded green papaya, tomatoes, shrimp paste, fresh lime juice, fish sauce tossed in a mortar and pestle served with cabbage and basil. This was alright. In my opinion, not the best papaya salad I've had. I've only had the Thai versions, which seemed to be less marinated but this version is not bad. Kuy-Tiew Special is rice Noodles, sliced beef, beef meatballs and assorted seafood in house broth, topped with cilantro, scallions and fried garlic. Bean sprouts served on the side. This is good. The only way I can describe it is it is like Vietnamese pho but with a sweet broth. It is an acquired taste if you have pho often. Mee Ka-tahng Seafood is stir fried flat rice noodles with assorted seafood and Chinese broccoli in house gravy sauce. The only way I can describe this is it is similar to the chinese "chow fun" but with seafood. It was good but kind of basic and nothing mind-blowing. Cha Sach Jrouk Tofu (Stir Fried Pork and Tofu) is stir fried ground pork, tofu, scallions and red chilies in house sauce. This was good. Tastes basic, as you would expect with the listed ingredients. Amok Trey is boneless tilapia fillets cooked in coconut milk sauce flavored with lemon grass, shallots and kaffir lime leaves. Served over steamed Chinese broccoli in a banana leaf bowl. This was interesting. It was expensive for tilapia, which you don't get a lot of but mixed with the sauce and flavors was good. Original Khmer Loc Lac is beef and onions sauteed in a garlic and black pepper sauce over a bed of lettuce, cucumber and tomato. Served with lime black pepper sauce. I loved this. The sauce works so well with the beef and the dressing for the vegetables. Highly recommended. Cha Kroung Sach Jrouk (Lemongrass with Pork) is stir fried pork, onions, jalapeno peppers, red/green bell peppers and holy basil in kroung sauce (herbs and spice mixture made of lemongrass, garlic, turmeric, galangal and kaffir lime leaves). Very flavorful. The sauce, herbs, and spices are what you are paying for and I thought it was worth it. Nam Sach Jourk (Cured Pork) is pork, pork skin, garlic, chili, salt, sugar, spices, and fermentation mix. It is like meat cake. It is pretty good. Recommended to try. Overall, I liked everything, even though I felt some of the stuff were very basic. Some of the foods, I felt were overpriced but the overall quality was good. Everything was cooked well, despite what I thought were basic dishes. I thought they could throw in some rice for the saucy dishes but they didn't.
