I can't say that I know much about Cambodian food. But I ordered the waiter's recommendation of their special pork intestine dish, and I have eaten a lot of pork intestine! Pork intestine with pickled cabbage here: I think it's prepared really well, and if I have any objections, it might just be my own flavor palette. It's deep-fried first, and also braised, so it's crunchy and sweet, which isn't like any other preparation of pork intestine I've had (most of which have been Chinese). That said, even if it was a bit sweet for me, the pickled greens balanced it out a bit, and the crunch was pretty nice. Came with a pleasant tasting broth too. read more

Papaya salad! Yes please! Stopped by for dinner from our trip to New Hampshire because we were craving some Cambodian cuisine. The restaurant is very spacious and the staff is very friendly. We were quickly seated on Sunday night and we were overwhelmed with the entree options because the picture menu was huge! We finally decided on a papaya salad, the spicy chicken with veggies and sauteed watercrest. The portions were a good size and everything tasted really good. I really liked the papaya salad because we ordered it spicy and it came packed with a spicy flavor. The papaya tasted fresh and we enjoyed eating with the big green leaves. Beef Sticks (6/10): Flavor was great, and it was nice and crispy. The beef was a bit dry, though. Some pieces were also kind of tough. Way too expensive for what it is. Oxtail Noodle Soup (6/10): The soup was a bit unbalanced in terms of flavors. It also tasted a bit one-dimensional (too much fish sauce). The oxtail was decently good. Beef Loc Lac (7.5/10): This was my favorite dish of the night. Crispy and tender! Flavor was delicious. Seafood Fried Noodles (4/10): I don't recommend ordering this. The fried noodles on the outside were fine, but it was a soggy mess on the inside. That would be acceptable if the sauce were good, but the sauce wasn't good either. Also, bear in mind that you will barely get any seafood with this dish. You'll get a few large pieces of imitation crab and like 2 shrimp. I like imitation crab, but just be warned. We were passing Lowell and knew this was the hub for authentic south Asian cuisine. We Yelped a few places and landed here as our 2nd option. The first place we went to was closed, despite Yelped showing they were open. Apparently a lot of places in the area are closed on a Monday. Phnom Penh is truly authentic. You walk in and are surprised by how spacious the dining area is. You look to the counter area and it's truly mom and pop style. You hear really loud customers speaking to the staff and immediately feel that they are regulars who have built close relationships through many years of patronage here. This place feels very homey. There is plenty of street parking, but I did see a sign that indicated a parking lot is available in the back. The young man that seated and served us was friendly and helpful. More importantly, he was patient and answered questions for us, who are new to Cambodian cuisine. I ordered the fried rice with beef loc lac. It seemed very popular as many pictures on yelp were of this dish. The beef looked overly fried but was surprisingly juicy and tender with lots of flavor. The fried rice reminds me of the Panda Express fried rice, and there is nothing wrong with that. I accepted the offer to add a fried egg but that actually came out over cooked, IMHO. I give this dish a 8/10. The beef noodle soup was something my wife ordered. It looks spicy but is not spicy at all. Yet, it still had really good flavor. The pictures showed some beef balls, but we noticed mostly sliced beef pieces. It was good and I'd give it a 8/10 as well. I got 2 appetizers. There were so many things that looked good but there were just 2 of us dining and we already were ordering more than we could eat. The fried spring rolls were okay. I think more meat filling would really balance out the interior texture. The outside was perfectly crisp and this dish goes so well with the included fish sauce. I'd give this a 7/10. The hot wings looked so good in the picture. It is heavily and unevenly breaded and fried, then mixed in a sweet and spicy sauce. It's sticky and crunchy...and very fried. I was actually hoping for more with this dish so I'd give it a 6/10. I might try the unsauced version if I come back, as that looked so good (another table got it). Overall, it was a good experience. We were served hot tea and provided great service for delicious food at a reasonable price. I'm glad places like this are still out there. They are not flashy or anything. They are there to serve good food to the community. I hope I come across this place again (it's not near where we live). I'll just have to drive past Lowell again soon! read more

I've never tried a Cambodian/Viet fusion restaurant before and now I only wish it was closer to Boston! The flavors are amazing, I feel like you can't go wrong with any dish here. The workers are nice and friendly and the space is big for larger parties as well. You must must mustttt try the beef loc lac. So crispy and crunchy on the outside and oozing with juice on the inside. The taste is actually addicting, probably my favorite dish here. The chicken wings are also delicious as well as probably any of the noodle bowls. Any time I'm passing Lowell again, I'm stopping here! read more

Long narrow Cambodian eatery on a tight commercial section of Westford, but decent amount of parking in back. Easy-to-navigate menus and pictured food items on the tables for reference. Hot Wings: Light on color, suggesting light on crispness and flavor at first glance, but not the case at all. Very crunchy, good tenderness, and a nice sauce that was different from most Thai and Cambodian hot wings. A different kind of sweet, with contrasting sourness, saltiness, fishiness, and heat. Beef Sticks: Crisp on the exterior and bombarded with lemongrass flavor. Somewhat tender, but not juicy and not even moist. Still enjoyable on its own and dipped into table condiments. But wish they had some moisture. Roast Duck: Generous portion, attractively lacquered skin, soy sauce for dipping, and pickled vegetables (mostly cabbage) on the side. The inner meat was extremely fresh and exquisitely tender. The skin had zero crispness and the color of what looked like a glaze didn't translate to flavor. Temperature luke warm. That's not to say you can't enjoy less-than-hot, less-than-crisp duck. I did. Roast Duck Noodle Soup: Big bowl, enough for two to share, and enough duck for a tasting, but a support player. The broth was outstanding, possibly the best broth of any kind I have ever had, and I've been to most of Lowell's Cambodian and Vietnamese restaurants. Fierce poultry flavor with herbal undertones. Leafy vegetables fresh, though different from what's shown on the menu photo. Noodles ever so slightly al dente. The duck was very fresh, though not crisp of skin. Tender meat that was tender already, not just relying on the broth to resuscitate it. Cool place, not perfect, not problematic, a 3.5 seems right, but if I have to choose between 3 or 4, I'm going 3 only to distinguish it from a few other nearby Cambodian places I regard more highly. But definitely good enough to go back and one you should check out. read more

The staff here is very friendly. I called in a pickup order for the first time. I was very excited to try a few items. The place was busy when we arrived. We had beef sticks. papaya salad, sour soup, and stir fried wide rice noodles. My family really enjoyed the flavor of everything. The noodles we especially popular. I always come here when I'm in the mood for Kuyteav, as in my opinion, they have the best kuyteav out of all of the Khmer restaurants in Lowell. I was craving meekathung (chow foon) today and there was so much that it overflowed my plate. But that's what I love about Cambodian restaurants, they always give you a full plate of food. Usually it comes with more vegetables, but I don't bother eating those so I requested only Chinese broccoli. I tried the Green Tea for the first time and I really liked it. I believe it's Green Thai tea, as the taste is similar to Snowdaes' "L Tea" but not as sweet, just how I like it. The servers here are always nice and welcoming. They always ask me if I'm getting shaved ice afterwards because I was a regular for that specific item last summer LOL. They remember you after a while and I like that a lot. 7/1/23 -thai iced tea: this was one of the best thai iced teas that i've had! it was creamy, not too sweet, and had a strong thai tea flavor. They have plenty of parking in the back of the restuarant. We had 3 dishes the appetizer wss the best followed by the beef dish on fried noodles which my friend had to pour soy sauce on to give it some flavor I got a poorly prepared seafood dish made with wide rice noodles which were stuck together and broken up with a goopy sauce that lack decent flavor. Another great Khmer eatery in Lowell! Support the local mom and pop noodle shops. The staff is super friendly and eager to please and parking is plentiful in the back. I'm not sure when it changed to metered parking but since it was a holiday, we didn't bother. Although its cheesy, they have helpful printed menu items displayed on the tables behind the clear glass. It helped with some visuals since the menu item names and descriptions aren't the best. We ordered the student fried noodles, fried crispy noodles, calamari, loc lac plate, sweet and sour fish soup and tamarind fish. The food was excellent! I took off a star because the fried fish was listed as $15.00 on the menu but ended up being $35.00 instead and we weren't notified of this before hand. I would be back. read more
