Best Cambodian sandwich I've ever had (and I've been to Philly & Long Beach for Khmer food).
Cham K.

The most recommended Cambodian spot in Lowell because of the Kaw Ko. We ordered the Kaw Ko with the butter bread. While it was very tasty, I felt the broth could be thicker and be a bit more potent in flavor. I could see why this dish made them famous, but for that specific day; maybe it was a bit light. What actually caused me to give this place a 5 star was the Num Pang Pate... wow - the best Cambodian sandwich I've had anywhere (and I've been to Philly & Long Beach for Khmer food). The slices of cold cut meat was extra thick, generous amount of asian mayo & pate, and the bread was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I will be dreaming of that sandwich fro here on out! Le Petit Cafe, you will be seeing me again when I come back to visit my cousins.

I wish they did half stars because it's a 4.5 for me! It's literally a hole in the wall, blink and you might miss it bc I certainly did. The ambiance is a cozy cafe ran by a young man and an older woman who I assume to be his mother but I could be wrong. It looked like it was just the two of them handling business, I love to see it. Now for the food.. My group and I ordered -Ka Kho with bread (beef stew) 5/5 -Cha kroeung with chicken (stir fried lemongrass paste w/ chicken&jalepenos) 4/5 -Nompang Pate special (bahn mi sandwich with thick cuts of Asian deli meat and layered in between soft but toasted buttered baguette bread with pickled veggies) 5/5 -Ka thiew special one order with rice noodles the other with wide rice noodles. (Noodle soup with ground pork, meatballs, and shrimp). 4/5 -Special Congee (rice soup with pork blood,m and chicken). 5/5 -Stuffed Angel wings ( chicken wings stuffed with lemongrass paste and vermicelli noodles) 4/5 -Durian shake 5/5 All in all the food taste like how it would be if you had it at home which is nothing to complain about. The food was good, service was good. My favorite favorite was the durian shake, it turned durian haters into lovers, highly recommend. The .5 point is missing bc I went in August which is when it's hot AF and it was just so hot in the cafe it was not enjoyable to eat.

This is by far the best place to eat in Lowell! Bread and butter, chicken legs the soups all of it is extremely tasty! All the sauces were incredible. I love the family ownership, they have a very good vice and customer service.

Le Petit is definitely petite. You can easily pass by the restaurant if you don't know where it is. The service is very friendly and welcoming. I've never had Khaw Ko before but I've heard they have the best. So I tried it and it was good and the beef and tripe were really tender. As for the flavor, it's good but not what I was expecting. The fresh limeade was soooooo amazing. Perfect sweetness and sourness. I came here before to eat loc lac, and I love it because it's the saucy kind that I would make at home. Give them a try!

Chicken egg rolls delicious and the sauce was yummy as well

Yes walking into this place looks a little sketchy but don't let that get in the way of you trying their authentic fresh flavors! I had the seafood special noodle soup and my husband had their special combination soup both were so flavorful and I dare to say the best I've had in town. The greeted us so warmly we didn't feel one bit out of place we had few questions about the menu and they were so kind to answer all our questions! Also we had a few random requests like tendons and Trip on the side and they gave us a generous portion. Loved everything about this place definitely will be back again! Don't skip out on their fresh bread sooooo good!

Kathew Kaw Ko, Beef soup with bread

My partner and I went to this hole-in-the-wall restaurant upon the advice of a friend. The small seating area was like a cafeteria or a kitchen table, which was perfect for us as we wanted to try Cambodian food while in Lowell. As we waited for our food (we hit the lunch rush, so we had a 40-minute wait), we were struck by how friendly people were. The customers were chatting with the staff, the staff were chatting with us... it all gave the ambiance of being at a family's kitchen table. The mom did most of the cooking, while her daughter and son worked as waitstaff. The food was absolutely delicious. I wish I got an image of the stuffed chicken wing appetizer - next time my partner will be coming for an order of that alone, it tasted so good. The Kathew kaw ko was a perfect meal of beef soup and bread - in the picture you see me having added some of their homemade chili oil which was so good we asked to purchase some from them. 99% of the time I'm a vegetarian, but when I travel and try new things I relax that approach for the experience. This restaurant is not for abiding vegetarians, to be clear. The food tasted so good that I was able to eat meat without too much struggle, which is a testament to the deliciousness of the food. Highly recommend!

Had one of the best meals in my life here so I went to go see how many reviews it has and I was shocked that they only had 9 reviews when my friends kept telling me how they and their family had been coming there for years. He took me on a Sunday morning and it was so good that I was back on Monday for lunch. It's the lowest of low key places, in a building so old that there isn't a sign, it's just painted onto the wall. It's family owned with a wife in the kitchen and the husband just helping out. There's a super family feel in there. You go in, they do have a menu but sometimes they won't give it to you, in which case you need to talk to them about what they have. I read some stuff about people not speaking English but both the wife and husband there seemed to speak great English. We were the only people in the restaurant so the husband chatted with us throughout the meal which was great because I really enjoy taking part in these conversations. I've gotten only 1 dish here, and it seems to be the one thing that everybody recommends. Kathew Ko Kho (Braised beef stew with noodles) and butter bread (a french baguette with a combination of butter and pate on the inside). It's such an amazing combination. The beef is tender with some pieces of tendon and other bits and rice noodles. The soup is on the sweet and savory side but there's plenty of chilli oil, sambal, pickled chillis, and fresh ground chilli to add if you want to make it spicy. The combination of that with the fresh bread to dip in the broth is honestly unexplainable. There is something about this butter bread that keeps blowing my mind, usually 1 order for 2 people is enough but me and my girlfriend went through 2 loaves. You can really taste the care they put into their food. You can always find whole spices in their broth which shows you that they're not using the pre-made ground mix or seasoning packets that other places use to cut corners. I can't rave about this dish enough. An interesting thing here is that the auntie is Muslim, and even though I'm not sure if the food is halal or not, she doesn't use any pork in her cooking. So if you're somebody that doesn't eat pork you can try all the dishes here with no worries. Even the twa ko sausage that they sell is a beef sausage. Places like this are endangered gems. It's purely run by a single couple, and one day if the auntie decides that she doesn't want to continue it probably will just stop existing. So 5/5 could not recommend enough, come and enjoy this slice of Cambodian home cooking while you still can.

It's very easy to miss this place so it can be considered a hidden gem. However, located in Cambodia town, it's much loved by the Cambodian community for years. Growing up, your parent would buy one of the candies for you in one of those jars/containers sitting there. Le Petit Cafe has a stable and concise menu with rice porridges, Noodle soups, and rice dishes, plus small additions like egg rolls. The Kathiews are a must have. My favorite is the Kathiew kaw ko with a hefty amount of bean sprouts and two slices of lime. Though, two slices may be too much for some. The soup has good chunks of beef in it and the serving is a good size. If you order the baguette alongside it, it can make you seriously full. The baguette is soft and pillowy on the inside and it has a nice crunch on the outside. The butter drizzled on top is salty but when paired with the lime squeezed soup, it makes a well balanced pairing. Sometimes free cold chilled tea is offered and it balances the piping hot noodle soup! Definitely will be a reoccurring customer. This quaint spot is great for its food and even as a quick meal!

This was a spectacular lucky find for us! Wow what great place for Cambodian. We saw a video about Cambodia Town on you tube that highlighted Le Petit. The staff was super friendly. Its in a neat location sort of hidden in an older building. The beef noodle soup was reminiscent of a Vietnamese Bo Kho but distinctly unique. The Loc Lac with rice was also great our family loved it and we shared the entrees. I can't tell you how much we felt welcomed and appreciated as customers. Can't wait to go back.

The Kathew Kaw Ko beef noodle stew was top tier eating. There's a lone lady who is the cook, server, and cashier - it might take a little time to get your food, but it's well worth it. I can't wait to come back here again!

Oxtail Noodle Soup (6/10): The soup was a bit unbalanced in terms of flavors. It also tasted a bit one-dimensional (too much fish sauce). The oxtail was decently good. Beef Loc Lac (7.5/10): This was my favorite dish of the night. Crispy and tender! Flavor was delicious. Seafood Fried Noodles (4/10): I don't recommend ordering this. The fried noodles on the outside were fine, but it was a soggy mess on the inside. That would be acceptable if the sauce were good, but the sauce wasn't good either. Also, bear in mind that you will barely get any seafood with this dish. You'll get a few large pieces of imitation crab and like 2 shrimp. I like imitation crab, but just be warned. Service was very good.

The first place we went to was closed, despite Yelped showing they were open. Apparently a lot of places in the area are closed on a Monday. Phnom Penh is truly authentic. You walk in and are surprised by how spacious the dining area is. You look to the counter area and it's truly mom and pop style. You hear really loud customers speaking to the staff and immediately feel that they are regulars who have built close relationships through many years of patronage here. This place feels very homey. There is plenty of street parking, but I did see a sign that indicated a parking lot is available in the back. The young man that seated and served us was friendly and helpful. More importantly, he was patient and answered questions for us, who are new to Cambodian cuisine. I ordered the fried rice with beef loc lac. It seemed very popular as many pictures on yelp were of this dish. The beef looked overly fried but was surprisingly juicy and tender with lots of flavor. The fried rice reminds me of the Panda Express fried rice, and there is nothing wrong with that. I accepted the offer to add a fried egg but that actually came out over cooked, IMHO. I give this dish a 8/10. The beef noodle soup was something my wife ordered. It looks spicy but is not spicy at all. Yet, it still had really good flavor. The pictures showed some beef balls, but we noticed mostly sliced beef pieces. It was good and I'd give it a 8/10 as well. I got 2 appetizers. There were so many things that looked good but there were just 2 of us dining and we already were ordering more than we could eat. The fried spring rolls were okay. I think more meat filling would really balance out the interior texture. The outside was perfectly crisp and this dish goes so well with the included fish sauce. I'd give this a 7/10. The hot wings looked so good in the picture. It is heavily and unevenly breaded and fried, then mixed in a sweet and spicy sauce. It's sticky and crunchy...and very fried. I was actually hoping for more with this dish so I'd give it a 6/10. I might try the unsauced version if I come back, as that looked so good (another table got it). Overall, it was a good experience. We were served hot tea and provided great service for delicious food at a reasonable price. I'm glad places like this are still out there. They are not flashy or anything. They are there to serve good food to the community. I hope I come across this place again (it's not near where we live). I'll just have to drive past Lowell again soon!

It has a few parking spaces up front and we had no problem getting one during lunch time on a saturday. This place is pretty big and I love that they didn't try to cram as many tables as possible in there. The staff are friendly and wheel out your food on carts vs carrying them on serving trays. The decor and presentation of the restaurant is very clean and modern. - unlike most other places in the area. We've tried other cambodian restaurants in lowell and they don't compare to the ambiance and vibes of Simply Khmer. I'd venture to say other places are very mom and pop style, and almost ghetto compared to this place. The food: Hot wings - are a must order! It looks like there are variations as others come with peppers or other stuff, mine only came with sauce. Based on yelp photos, seems like its hit or miss what you get? Still, tastes great. Crispy but not overcooked and the sauce is amazing. It's not too spicy either. Crispy egg rolls - they were fine but I'd skip these. They are tiny but you get 5. There is no meat so inside is mushy, but the outside is fried perfectly crisp. The soup Kuy Tiew Special - it's just basic pho soup with beef balls, fish cakes and greens. Tastes fine if you want some soupy noodles, but nothing that stands out. Still enjoyable if thats what you're after. My waitress didn't tell us the specials but I kept overhearing the male waiter tell everyone today's specials and I heard about their new chicken skin. I ordered it to try. They are thin and crispy and half the plate is pickled veggies and some jalapenos. The chicken skin is light and airy, fried crispy with some light seasoning. Worth a try at least once. overall, this is one of the more popular places in Lowell for cambodian food and I can see why. I'm looking forward to my next trip back here. Food quality is good, service is friendly, parking was easy and it was not too far off from the main highway.
