Formerly Golden House Chinese restaurant. Now a family owned Cambodian restaurant. Kao's Kitchen is a quaint little restaurant that is a great addition to the Lowell Cambodian food scene. You can see the kitchen at the counter where you pay. Service was as expected but the food came out a bit slow. Ordered the special Bai Moun (Chicken Rice). It was delicious; chicken and chicken skin were crispy unlike the traditional chicken rice dish. The rice could use some more flavor; however, the pickled vegetables helped. Portion size was big. Price was a bit higher compared to other neighboring Cambodian restaurants. Would like to try other things on the menu next time I'm in town.

this was the first meal i had here in massachusetts. lowkey i thought i was gonna be exploring boston but they live in like the outskirts which is fine and i liked exploring it. it reminded me of california before i got to go home yay. my aunt took me to this cambodian place because this other place she wanted to go to was closed. i think this is my first time ever at a cambodian restaurant which is literally so interesting cuz my family is basically cambodian like what. i got mee-katang but my grandma makes it for me and it was good but not as good as hers. i ate chinese donut for the first time in like 6 months and omg it was mid. so that's why when i come back i NEED to eat it. but overall the beef skewers were great and then the other food was awesome too. i will never be back here again which is sad but it's alright. 5 STARS!!!

But the real standout, in my opinion, was the coconut sour soup -- absolutely delicious.

I've been to this spot a few times over the years, usually when I'm in the area for dinner. Parking…read morein downtown Lowell can be a pain, so I don't come often, but it's nice that this place is part of the bubble tea scene in the area. There are window seatings and a few tables. They offer a decent menu with teas, milk teas, specialty drinks, and smoothies. I usually opt for no sugar or low sugar, but even with that, their milk tea and smoothies are just okay. The milk tea, for instance, doesn't have enough tea flavor to balance out, even when I go light on sugar. What I do enjoy, though, are the quick bites, especially the onigiri. It's a great savory option to pair with the drinks. Overall Service: It's fine. I had a quick interaction when I was in person, but I usually order through delivery apps. The food is always packaged really well, with no spillage or mess, which I really appreciate.

We got a Pink Lady, Oolong Milk Tea, Spam Onigiri, Salmon Onigiri and Takoyaki. I think the onigiris could have been better. Some of the salmon and rice fell out while taking out the wrapper. My boyfriend mentioned that the onigiris seemed smaller than he remembered. The takoyaki was good but it was a little doughy. Oolong milk tea had a stronger tea flavor, which I didn't mind. I usually don't like popping boba, but the Pink Lady drink was good.

Friendly staff, easy ordering, though very small subset of the full offerings, with only 3 egg roll types available (the brick-and-mortar location has 16). These are smaller egg rolls, more along the lines of a Vietnamese egg roll or a mini version of a Chinese spring roll. Know going in that this isn't going to be something you'd get on an old school pupu platter. Also know that you gotta order in pairs that can't be mixed. So if getting two, it's two of the same kind. I found a trading buddy. Buffalo Chicken Egg Roll ($5 for 2): Soft, tender meat, a little dry, a little spicy. Served with a tiny container of blue cheese for dipping. Cheeseburger Egg Roll ($5 for 2): Soft, crumbly meat, good moisture, cheese melted in, good ratio of protein to shell. Served with a tiny container of ketchup for dipping. General Gau's Chicken ($16 for plate): Think McNuggets, with a similar size and flat shape, only higher quality. Moist. Batter not crisp at all, but when is it crisp even at a Chinese restaurant? Lacking in the sauce and flavor departments. More of a clear, thin glaze than a sauce, and needed more of it. Served with white rice and pickled cabbage. Solid portion.
