I never would have thought that Denver, located in a land-locked state, could have such amazing sushi. Had dinner with friends here and everything tasted phenomenal. They offer so many food items on their Happy Hour menu. I don't drink alcohol much, so I ordered a hibiscus lemonade. It was so good and refreshing on a hot day. Mango crab rangoons and crispy rice cakes were great starters, we enjoyed them very much. The truffle salmon tasted divine and was unique, I don't think I can find that dish anywhere else nearby. I also enjoyed the Hotel Cali roll and Lion King very much. We also ordered miso soup, but they forgot to bring it out. We finished our entire meal and none of us remembered that we even wanted/ordered it miso soup until after we left. I do like the octopus that they have outside and the marine aquarium that they have inside. It is super busy and bustling, but our waitress did her best to stop by and check up on her when she could. For my order, I got the: 1) Charred Salt Edamame: -Charred with Maldon sea salt. -Small bowl of edamame, nice big salt grains on it. The char gives a slight smoky flavor. Not bad. 2) Philadelphia Roll: -Comes with 8 pieces. -This is the standard raw salmon with cream cheese, cucumber, and scallion. -I'm used to rolls having less rice and lots of protein in it, but again, this isn't an AYCE so I can't judge by that standard. Overall not bad, but it's a standard roll. 3) Sake Nigiri: -Salmon sushi, 2 pieces. -Fish was okay quality. Not the level of freshness of melt in your mouth butteriness that I usually enjoy. It was also a lot of rice too. 4) Hibiscus Squeeze: -Non-alcoholic mocktail. It's freshly squeezed lemonade with hibiscus and pomegranate. -A bit more tart than what I have would liked, but at least the presentation was nice and cute. I like the color. We went last week right when the opened so we were the only people there the whole time. The hostess seemed annoyed that we were there RIGHT when they opened but over server made up for it! She was so nice and friendly. They have a great happy hour menu with lots of yummy bites! We got edamame - which were spicy! And the crab cheese Rangoons and each got 1-2 rolls of our own! I will say there wasn't nearly enough cream cheese in the Philly roll and it was weird that the salmon came on top. I had been to this restaurant in Chicago, and when I found out it was a chain, I thought, "Let me go to the Denver location, and see how it compares." Ambiance was great. Drinks were great. And food was great! I will definitely be back. The quality, for the price-- very good! The calamari wasn't the best, but maybe is it just not the right season? I'll try it again in 6 months, ha. I have gone to this Blue Sushi Sake Grill a few times now, and I do enjoy it. It is in the middle of Downtown Denver, which is easy to walk to if you're staying in the area. As with any downtown location, parking can be hit or miss. Food: I love that Blue Sushi has a good variety of items for vegetarians and vegans. My favorites are the avo kaluna and the shiitake to me rolls. Both are vegan. They also have a great lunch menu and happy hour specials! Service: Service has been great every time I have come. The miso soup was ok... refreshing and warm but not super flavorful. The Unami Maki was super flavorful and a must-get. Same with the Eden Roll... also a must get. We went in after the Rockies game on 7/3 and everything was great with our server, but when it came to the closing manager... well let's just say things became wildly uncomfortable quickly. As we are closing out around 11:30, the closing manager came up and acted like we had complained about something when we clearly had not. We were simply discussing the bill and how to divide it. After paying and ordering our uber, the manager came up to us and told us rudely to leave since they were closing... so we hurried out and didn't get to finish thanking our server and her tip definitely suffered. I went with a group, and everybody's order looked great. I'll want to come back to try to done of the other options. We ordered the charred edamame to start. Made a reservation for 3 at 7:45 pm today. Upon walking in I just had a feeling this was not gonna be a good night. Despite a restaurant that was 20-30% full the hostess was rushing around, unfriendly, and generally looked pressed. We waited about 5-10 minutes for our table and she brought us there, put the menus down and walked off. Okay whatever. Our server comes over pretty fast and asks for drinks. No hi, welcome, I'm so and so, have you been here before. They have a pretty extensive drink menu (front and back of a menu) so I said I needed a few minutes. Didn't not seem to thrill her. She comes back and my friends give their order and I'm still debating- she looks more annoyed and walks off. When she drops their sake I order the dirty martini from their cocktail list, and we get the crab rangoons. She brings my martini and I order the crispy rice and two rolls, my friend gets a roll, but the third friend says I'm not ordering anything and she just looks at her and goes "oh okay liquid diet". Not in a fun, jokey way like we had camaraderie, which we don't because you have treated us like we were the biggest annoyance since we sat down. Crispy rice comes. And then.....the waiting begins. I took a photo of my crispy rice at 8:12 pm. I then took the photo of my rolls at....8:44 pm. It took 32 minutes for three rolls from the traditional roll menu, not anything crazy, to come out. In that time of 33 minutes we had: no updates on food, no check in, and all our drinks sat empty and we were never asked if we wanted more. I finally flagged her down and she goes "do you need something?". Ummmmm yes actually. I said just wondering about rolls? And she snaps, they're coming! Funnily enough, within 45 seconds of me asking, she comes walking out with our food. She drops it and leaves. Never asked us again if we ever wanted more drinks, how the food was, dessert- nothing. When she took our empty plates we asked for the check, paid and left and she just stared at us like we were the worst table of her career the entire time she ran our cards. I was a server for five years. I was never rude or snappy. Her behavior was unacceptable and for no reason. My friends? Also my co workers. Our dinner was being expensed. We could have dropped $200 or more if she was just nice. I'll never understand what we did to annoy her so badly. On top of it- I found the food mid as hell. Everything is imitation crab, the crispy rice was mostly rice, 4 slivers for $14, and my rolls looked like grocery store rolls with tiny slivers of fish in them that so couldn't even taste (and I ordered simple rolls like yellowtail). My martini was served so dirty it was green and had been shaken so much it was covered in ice crystals (which melt and dilute the drink, although I was grateful in this case bc it took a slight edge off all the salt). When I leave paying $60 for just myself for three things- I expect them taste well and be made with quality Overall, never coming back when there are so many other places to try. I've been intending to try this place, and today, as the free mall-shuttle stopped in front, i decided, "Today is the day." What a good decision! But it's the delectable food that will make Blue Sushi your go-to for Japanese Fusion cuisine. Honestly, the creative blends of flavors is astonishing. I suggest a multi-dish approach in order to experience that flair. I started with one of their 'Specialty Sashimi' offerings, Tuna Tataki. Oh, Lord! the balance of flavors and textures was simply perfect! VERY highly recommended. No photo, but a similar presentation to their Truffle Salmon (much saltier, and without a pepper-crust). Another winner is from the 'Share Plate' section, Crispy Brussels Sprouts. You may have had a dish with this name at other restaurants, but nowhere else is like this version or even close to as palate-pleasing! Again, it's the unique blend of flavors and textures that makes it a win. I also ordered the garlic version of Charred Edamame. We got both sake flights and they both contained 3 different sakes to try which was very enjoyable to find a sake I really liked as well as some less desirable ones. The value was also really good at $13 and $15 for the two flights. The sushi itself was quite average and quite expensive. I got the madai sashimi and the green eggs and Hama which were nothing special. For dessert got the mochi ice cream with the black sesame, matcha, lychee, and the special. The black sesame was probably my favorite of the bunch but I don't know if I would order it again as the mochi wasn't that great. Blue is always an excellent time. They have specials and maki that are interesting but still let the fish be the star. My favorite dish is the itchy salmon. The service was great, attentive but not overbearing. The kitchen was running a little bit slow (7:30 on a Friday) some dishes coming out very quickly and others slowly, but we were there to catch up with friends so it wasn't a problem. We were a group of four sitting at a sort of odd semi circle booth.small enough that everyone's knees were bumping each other. The soup was just OK but the cucumbers and brussels sprouts were delicious. To eat, we tried a number of different roles, including the Spanish fly, Amazon, lion king, Crunchy LA and Philadelphia. The best one by far was the lion King, it had a taste of smoky flavor in the salmon that reminded me of an Omakase dish. The Amazon roll was also really good, the chimichurri really elevated it. I wasn't as big of a fan of the Spanish fly roll but it's nice to try different options to learn what we like for next time. We sat in a booth in the Sake Lounge, which was cozy and comfortable, and I loved watching the tropical fish swim in the aquarium above the bar--a fun and relaxing touch. We arrived during happy hour, and their happy hour menu is impressively extensive. We started with miso soup and a house salad featuring an incredible honey-sesame dressing. From there, we shared three rolls and the Cherry Bomb and Blue Kani--everything was inventive and delicious. The Tidal Wave Roll, Hawaii Roll, and Crunchy Red Roll each had unique, bold flavors, and the Cherry Bomb, with its tuna sashimi on top of crispy tempura rice, was a standout! Though I'm not usually a fan of tofu, the Blue Kani--tempura tofu pockets filled with spicy crab mix and drizzled with eel sauce--was surprisingly amazing, and my husband loved it. Our server, Abby, was attentive and ensured our food arrived promptly. When we mentioned my husband's nut allergy, the general manager personally came over to confirm that everything being prepared was safe for him--a thoughtful and reassuring gesture.
