I've been meaning to try this spot for a while so when I heard they were closing soon, I had to bump it to the top of my list. I really liked the food - my scramble was AMAZING. I got the Top Gun but subbed Morningstar sausage for the bacon. The side of potatoes plus (also ordered no bacon) was really good too. They have lots of vegan and vegetarian options or mods too! My partner just thought his breakfast burrito was ok and could have used more seasoning or perhaps less potatoes, but overall he did like it. My mimosa was just kinda ok and honestly I probably would have liked the OJ on its own better. The service was mixed. Our server was great - the kitchen put bacon in my first side of potatoes and she apologized and fixed it right away. The front hostess however ignored us and 4 other people who were waiting for tables for almost 10 minutes when we walked in and answered the phone and walked off several times, only for us to find out we could just go seat ourselves immediately at the bar. All the other staff seemed great, though perhaps overwhelmed and harried (understaffing?). The ambiance at the bar was chill - we got to watch the game on the tv and there wasn't too much activity aside from servers grabbing drinks nearby from the very friendly bartender. Saying goodbye to the Blue Star feels like saying goodbye to an old friend. I've been coming here for decades - with colleagues, friends, and out-of-town guests (including one who saw the Blue Star on The Food Channel). Cozy, warm & welcoming - with wooden booths and back bar - old world charm that can't be matched by today's cool contemporary restaurants. Vintage photos on the walls, and an old-fashioned community bulletin board in the back. It had a private room in the back - I reserved it a few times for larger gatherings. Yes, spaces like this are disappearing. On my last visit to the Blue Star - today- I met a kind man (Tracey Outlaw) who shared more Blue Star history with me. Thank you to Wendy Morales for many years of community service while running this wonderful institution. It will be missed~ read more

Being just a few blocks from my office, we decided to pop in on a Sunday afternoon. Right away, the interaction with the hostess put us off. We were told to seat ourselves at the bar, and honestly, I should've taken that first interaction as a sign to go somewhere else. Several minutes later our cold, disengaged waitress came by to take our order. I went with the BLTA, which the menu said came on a ciabatta roll but it arrived on a hamburger bun instead. I wouldn't have ordered it had I known. The coated fries were cold, and the sandwich just wasn't good. The barely toasted hamburger bun really ruined the whole thing. My dining partner ordered the garden omelette, which he said was fantastic. It certainly looked good. It came with a side of red-potato home fries that were fine but definitely under-seasoned. Overall, the service was pretty mediocre--except for one gentleman with a fabulous mustache, who was genuinely great. The food, at least for me, was just okay. My family and I came in here for brunch on Sunday. The hostess was very friendly and nice. The interior is beautiful and has an old feel to it. When we got seated, our waitress had not come to our table for 15 minutes. When she finally arrived we asked nicely to place our order. We asked to have the sauce to be removed from a sandwich and on the side for my crab Benedict. When our food arrived, the waitresses quickly threw our plates on the table and ran off. We both looked at our orders and realized it was smothered in sauce, both of which we specifically asked not to have. We waited for our waitress to come by, but she did not show up or even check on us. It took a really long time to flag down another waitress to finally get our waitress. We asked her that the order was incorrect. She rolled her eyes said a half apologetic let me fix that and ran off. We over heard the table next to us also having their drink orders all messed up. When we got our food, the beef dip and the crab Benedict, it tasted pretty good. We only got a refill because we had to flag down the person who bus the tables. We had to get up and walk over to get our own to go boxes. The service was very slow, the waitress had a poor attitude with the eye rolling when she messed up both our orders, we never got refills, had to get our own to go boxes and she messed up the other table's order. Solid 4.5 Just Missed the daily HH which is from 3-6 daily. Ordered market hash with salmon $23 and BF ordered short ribs $23. Generous portions. Host/Servers super friendly and we got seated right away as it was not too busy. Fairly quiet and nice atmosphere. Parking is a challenge. For many, Blue Star Cafe & Pub is this tiny little place that if you blink you may have missed driving by on Stone Way in Wallingford. To me it was a place near and dear to me. You see, it's where me and my now wife had brunch on so many Sundays. When we moved out it to the burbs we'd make a point to try and eat at Blue Star any time we were in the area. As time grew on so did our little family and we took our kids there explaining this is where mom and dad went when we were dating. For. The French toast to the crispy chicken wrap we loved this food. It felt like it was a secret gem hidden at the top of the Wallingford slope. We really couldn't imagine better food. And staff was always welcoming and patrons were always friendly. It has really been a part of the community and the community has been a part of it. So when I heard after 50 years they would be closing their doors I felt obligated to write a review and share the place so many memories were shared. Blue Star Cafe & Pub will be closing in February so please try to make a point to go here one or a few last times before it closes. We ended up asking two more times before getting our 2nd cup. (-) I ordered my scrambled eggs dry and they came wet/standard. My assumption is the order wasn't put in as requested. I love good ol' diner style restaurants like this. Reminds me of back east with a proliferation of them. Trying to get a feel for the brunch spots in the area I came on a Sunday Morning. Decent crowd but there were some empty booths. There is table, booth and counter seating as well as some outdoor seating, so even on a busy day I wouldn't expect too long of a wait. I was seated quickly dining just myself, bitter sweetness of the large menu hit me. So many tasty sounding options but can only choose one. I decided to take the suggestion of my hostess and opt for the Biscuits and gravy. It didn't turn out to be a good idea. To put it simply I've had far better Biscuits and Gravy. These biscuits were so dense, they may have been stale. Not at all light and fluffy. They had little in the way of taste and the gravy was just alright. Not too much flavor going on with it and some of the best gravy I've had with this dish had little bits of sausage in it. It's supposed to be sausage gravy after all. The eggs were ok, and the potatoes were potatoes, and plenty of them. I'd consider giving it another go here. The menu is huge and the service was decent, but this first go was a bust. read more

Came here today for brunch. Noticed the "good" food rating and thought nothing of it. Seattle health department is a bit intense with their rules so I figured it wasn't a big deal. While we were there, we found a hair in our food, fruit flies in our drinks and then huge clumps of dust bunnies started flying off of the fans from above the tables and falling onto our plates. The place clearly needs to better cleaning protocols. I picked this restaurant because of the location and the wide selection of salad offerings. MB2 and I family-styled the Torrey Pines Salad and the Sweetwater Grilled Clubhouse, subbed truffle shoestring fries. I appreciated the fresh baked turkey breast on the sandwich and the grilled chicken and cornbread croutons for the salad. The food was delicious and the service was friendly and helpful. The decor is a bit dated and could use a refresh. Easy to find street parking on a Monday. I would definitely come back for the food! read more

Onto my food. * cinnamon rolls. so good, warm and HUGE. grab a cup of coffee and some friends because you will need it! * I got the las migas which was so good. think omelet and chips combined topped with meat. The only downside is the potato which was crunchy (not the crispy type of crunch, but the undercooked/raw type of crunch). Overall the food is great, the service is great and we will be back. The food was just okay, nothing special, and a tad pricier than I'd expect. I've been told that this place is known for their house coffee. Perhaps this was an iconic place decades ago, it doesn't stand out to me compared to its neighboring coffee shops. Classic diner vibes and generally a good time. Ive been here many times and am just now getting around to writing a review. They have a huge menu full of options. Today I got the Hobo eggs (like a frittata), a biscuit, coffee, and a spicy "Chihuahua" bloody Mary. The Bloody was very good (full of garnishes and a nice spice level). The biscuit was amazing, I'd go back just for that. The "hobo" frittata was a bit dry and dense. My friend ordered a cinnamon roll and it was the size of his head (also a winner in my book). The service was friendly but a bit slow. I have this acid-test for classic diners: do they refill your mug of drip coffee without prompting? Did not love the French toast/pancakes as they weren't fully cooked. I came back for lunch maybe 1pm on a week day and was seated right away but walked by many times before someone (the manager on duty) greeted/ served me, took my drink, appetizer and meal order all at once. It came to me all at once as well. Ordered an impossible burger, salad, bleu cheese, coke. Salad had some slimy bits and the burger was absolutely falling apart, the patty in pieces before I got to eat it and the little toothpick didn't help support the sandwich much. I took maybe two bites of the burger before the section's server that didn't take my order tried to hand me a box when I was I was 3 bites in. I also had a breakfast here. Everything was decent that time, hard to get a coffee refill on the $5 bottomless coffee but the breakfast combo was good. You can sub vegan field roast sausage with your plate, I liked that. Got some pancakes too hoping to redeem the others -- came out big and fluffy but when I bit in they were mushy and underdone, to my dismay. I'd have loved a new stack but it was the same story with servers being hard to come by. Came here for my birthday brunch. We sat at the bar. Fun atmosphere. Cool to see the old photos and how long the establishment has been open. Had the perfect savory sweet combo with the Norwegian pancakes. My boyfriend had the Market Hash and he really enjoyed it. Found out that they make their bread IN HOUSE! It was super delish! Parking is a bit difficult, our friends had to park about 6 blocks away. There is plenty of seating inside and some outside for a beautiful day. As we arrived we waited a minute or two to be greeted and sat down but the staff looked to have been keeping busy and our servers who helped us were nice. There is a large menu with gluten and vegan options. They have specials on weekdays. We ordered for drinks 3 of the breakfast shots. Breakfast in Bed, Oatmeal Cookie, and Cinnamon Roll. They are each pretty sweet and come in the Circleware scorcher shot glass; so are pretty big. My friend really liked the oatmeal cookie and said it tasted exactly like one. I ordered the Cinnamon Roll and it comes with Whipped Cream sprinkled with cinnamon that was not called out on the menu so I did not get to try the full shot. My friends did say it tasted like a cinnamon roll though with the whipped cream. Along with those we ordered a Famous House Bloody mary, Espresso Martini and a Michelada. Bloody was decent but think I missed out in adding the habanero vodka. The espresso Martini was smooth and not too harsh, and the Michelada was bloody mix heavy. For food I ordered a build your own scrabble with the vegan sliced potatoes upon request. It was a good size meal, I ate everything except the toast. The potatoes were soft and had a good seasoning to them. They are unlike another potato that I have had before and were good. The scrabble was filled with sausage, bacon, black olive, avocado, and fresh mushrooms. There are many options available on the menu that you could come back many times to try something new. A good place to get a good morning meal with friends and then a much needed walk back to your car to walk it all off! read more

This was my regular spot a while ago. It saddens me to give this review. I believe this place has gone down the drain. I encountered the worst service ever. I stood at the front counter to be seated for a good 5 to 7 minutes. Two waitresses walked to the counter and did not even acknowledge me. I continued to wait. In walk a couple behind me. The waitress goes to them to seat them while I am standin right there. They look at me bewildered and point her to me saying I was there ahead. Then she looks at me for first time and asks if I was helped. I said no. She asks me where i wanted to sit. I said a booth would be great. She takes the menus and just walks. Me and the couple look bewildered. She turns around and says curtly, all of you. So I follow her. She throws the menu on a table and keeps walking. Not sure if it's me or the couple I wait. She looks back and says that's you. I tell her, I would like to sit at the window booth as that's empty. She says ok. I sit there and wait 15 minutes and no one even comes to my booth. The couple are acknowledged and orders taken in the mean time. Needless to say, I just left at this point. They lost a long time customer for good. read more

The waffle was moist, creamy, and overall tasted really yummy. I ended up eating the whole thing, which is rare considering I get full very fast from waffles. Now, I did try some of my mom's egg Benedict and the egg and hollandaise sauce was okay. The crab cake was a little undercooked, and the potatoes were overcooked, greasy, and over salted. It wasn't really something we enjoyed. My parents also ordered two oat milk lates, which were bitter and not pleasant. I got an orange juice, which was fresh squeezed and tasted delicious! Overall, I give Blue Star a solid 3-3.4 star. Some of the food was good, but a lot of things could have been better. read more

One of my favorite brunch spots in Seattle. It can get busy on the weekends but I've never had to wait for a table for 2. They have plenty of seating and the space itself is awesome, feels very old school Seattle with lots of old pictures on the wall. Highly recommend the Top Gun Scramble, and make sure to get it with the potatoes! The toast comes with delicious raspberry jam too. I also love the strawberry waffle with whipped cream. read more

We had a group of 7 on a Tuesday night, and the place was basically empty. However, our service was still very slow and at one point we were asked to give up our menus so that another group could have them. (Do they only have 8 menus??) I'm vegan and clarified with the server that the pistachio pasta could be made vegan, as it was marked that way on the online menu but not the paper menu. They assured me yes, it could be made vegan. When we ordered, I asked for the pistachio pasta made vegan. When it arrived, it had cheese on it. The service was already slow and I didn't want to cause a scene (and I'm not allergic to cheese or anything), so I just ate it. And it wasn't eve good. It was lukewarm with globs of melted shaved Parmesan that had re-coagulated. It wasn't very much food, but it was priced at $17. Really truly not worth it. Like, a waste of money. One of my friends ordered the fish tacos and they didn't come out with everyone else's food. The server said "it'll be 2 minutes" but it was literally at least 15 minutes later when he got his food, everyone else was almost done eating. The rest of my non-vegan friends said the food was basically fine. Seems like mediocre food quality for a pretty steep price and the service is very lacking. I will not be back. Also this Yelp page says that they require masks and the staff wears masks--that is not true. The staff was not wearing masks (maybe one person) and they did not require patrons to wear masks. read more
