Build Your Own scramble with the famous red potatoes

Wish I had discovered this place sooner! Sad to hear they are closing but happy to have been. The potatoes are actually very good. And my scramble was delish. Sometimes scrambles with tomatoes and spinach can be watery but not here!

Service was quick and friendly. The streak was as good as I remember it. The smaller really helps keep it crispy.

My family and I came in here for brunch on Sunday. The hostess was very friendly and nice. The interior is beautiful and has an old feel to it. When we got seated, our waitress had not come to our table for 15 minutes. When she finally arrived we asked nicely to place our order. We asked to have the sauce to be removed from a sandwich and on the side for my crab Benedict. When our food arrived, the waitresses quickly threw our plates on the table and ran off. We both looked at our orders and realized it was smothered in sauce, both of which we specifically asked not to have. We waited for our waitress to come by, but she did not show up or even check on us. It took a really long time to flag down another waitress to finally get our waitress. We asked her that the order was incorrect. She rolled her eyes said a half apologetic let me fix that and ran off. We over heard the table next to us also having their drink orders all messed up. When we got our food, the beef dip and the crab Benedict, it tasted pretty good. We only got a refill because we had to flag down the person who bus the tables. We had to get up and walk over to get our own to go boxes. The service was very slow, the waitress had a poor attitude with the eye rolling when she messed up both our orders, we never got refills, had to get our own to go boxes and she messed up the other table's order. I am not sure if this waitress was having a bad day but our experience was definitely not a good one.

Solid 4.5 Just Missed the daily HH which is from 3-6 daily. Ordered market hash with salmon $23 and BF ordered short ribs $23. Generous portions. Host/Servers super friendly and we got seated right away as it was not too busy. Fairly quiet and nice atmosphere. Parking is a challenge. We ended up parking a couple of blocks away on a residential street. Would definitely come back again.

Came here today for lunch and had a great experience. My server, Arianna, came over and greeted me immediately and instantly brought me a water even though I didn't ask for it. I always appreciate that added touch to an experience, even if it is just a water. First off, this place is very charming and clearly has a lot of history to it as it sits in a very hip neighborhood in Wallingford. Really appreciated the decor on the inside. Got the Nashville fried chicken sandwich which was exceptional. Arianna was attentive throughout my entire visit. I will for sure go back here and try other things on their very extensive menu.

For many, Blue Star Cafe & Pub is this tiny little place that if you blink you may have missed driving by on Stone Way in Wallingford. To me it was a place near and dear to me. You see, it's where me and my now wife had brunch on so many Sundays. When we moved out it to the burbs we'd make a point to try and eat at Blue Star any time we were in the area. As time grew on so did our little family and we took our kids there explaining this is where mom and dad went when we were dating. For. The French toast to the crispy chicken wrap we loved this food. It felt like it was a secret gem hidden at the top of the Wallingford slope. We really couldn't imagine better food. And staff was always welcoming and patrons were always friendly. It has really been a part of the community and the community has been a part of it. So when I heard after 50 years they would be closing their doors I felt obligated to write a review and share the place so many memories were shared. Blue Star Cafe & Pub will be closing in February so please try to make a point to go here one or a few last times before it closes. While it will be closed the memories here will live on forever with me, my family, and so many others both near and far.

I picked this restaurant because of the location and the wide selection of salad offerings. MB2 and I family-styled the Torrey Pines Salad and the Sweetwater Grilled Clubhouse, subbed truffle shoestring fries. I appreciated the fresh baked turkey breast on the sandwich and the grilled chicken and cornbread croutons for the salad. The food was delicious and the service was friendly and helpful. The decor is a bit dated and could use a refresh. Easy to find street parking on a Monday. I would definitely come back for the food!

I love good ol' diner style restaurants like this. Reminds me of back east with a proliferation of them. Trying to get a feel for the brunch spots in the area I came on a Sunday Morning. Decent crowd but there were some empty booths. There is table, booth and counter seating as well as some outdoor seating, so even on a busy day I wouldn't expect too long of a wait. I was seated quickly dining just myself, bitter sweetness of the large menu hit me. So many tasty sounding options but can only choose one. I decided to take the suggestion of my hostess and opt for the Biscuits and gravy. It didn't turn out to be a good idea. To put it simply I've had far better Biscuits and Gravy. These biscuits were so dense, they may have been stale. Not at all light and fluffy. They had little in the way of taste and the gravy was just alright. Not too much flavor going on with it and some of the best gravy I've had with this dish had little bits of sausage in it. It's supposed to be sausage gravy after all. The eggs were ok, and the potatoes were potatoes, and plenty of them. I'd consider giving it another go here. The menu is huge and the service was decent, but this first go was a bust.

Typical diner with a good menu full of staples. My coffee was refilled my fries were hot the food was good. It's clean and has some good pictures of local history in the bathroom. Overall a nice time.

I came here for breakfast and absolutely loved it! The menu has so many great options, and the portions are generous without skimping on quality. Everything tasted fresh and comforting, just the kind of breakfast you hope for when you go out.

post game brunch on a Saturday they were able to accommodate a large group (12 people including kids). we were split over two tables at first as other tables around us cleared we merged them together and the staff was really great at accommodating it. Onto my food. * cinnamon rolls. so good, warm and HUGE. grab a cup of coffee and some friends because you will need it! * I got the las migas which was so good. think omelet and chips combined topped with meat. The only downside is the potato which was crunchy (not the crispy type of crunch, but the undercooked/raw type of crunch). Overall the food is great, the service is great and we will be back. Note, there is no parking so do give yourself plenty of time to circle around to look for it.

The food here is good. The service needed a little help. Granted they were a bit busy, the servers need to pay more attention to their tables and make sure they don't give off an attitude towards their customers. The building this was in was cool and had an old western feel to it. I'm sure this place is haunted.

A simple and traditional brunch spot with everything egg dish or sandwich you could want. This restuarant is huge and outdated. The food was just okay, nothing special, and a tad pricier than I'd expect. I've been told that this place is known for their house coffee. Perhaps this was an iconic place decades ago, it doesn't stand out to me compared to its neighboring coffee shops. Overall, it's a little run down and basic, but it's everything you need for a casual day of brunch. Reasons to come back: nostalgic decor and extra nice servers.

The restaurant itself leaves a lot to be desired, but I'm not asking too much. I believe the owner said he was trying to revamp the place. I hope that the area comes alive in the future years, that should help. Here's the issue though, this is the slowest spot ever. I've waited 30 minutes for fries - FRIES. I don't mind waiting for food, but it should remain reasonable. There were only two or three people working, and one man did tell us this, but I need to be honest - this was on Super Bowl Sunday. No one was able to get anyone a beer from the tap for 40 minutes, the food took forever and it appeared that online orders were being prioritized (which makes sense, you make as you get orders coming in, but that puts your in person customers in an odd and sometimes frustrating position). To be honest, I probably wouldn't have minded as much if I just had some fries to snack on. I didn't mind as much this one time because I was just happy to find a place to watch the Super Bowl Half Time show, but other days, it's a little hard to look past. I wish this business the best, I live too close to not hope for its improvement! Looking forward to updating my review. At the end of the day, if you're hungry, it's late, this is your spot.

He said, "No, you got the sandwich." I said, "Okay... so did you make the sandwich I ordered or not?" He said yes. I open it up and it's literally two chicken fingers, fries, and honey mustard. No Philly cheesesteak. So I asked, "If you didn't have Philly cheesesteak, why didn't you tell me that when I ordered it?" He said, "I don't know, I can put it on the side if you'd like." I said, "I thought you didn't have any Philly cheesesteak?" He walked away, came back with a side of Philly cheesesteak, and told me to put it on the sandwich myself. For $19, I shouldn't have to assemble my own sandwich -- especially after being told you didn't even have the main ingredient. Just be upfront with customers.

The oysters were the main draw for me, and they were totally worth the visit. Old Stove serves them with a savory watermelon sauce in addition to a traditional cocktail sauce--eaten together, it's a flavor explosion that I can't quite describe. We also enjoyed the garlic everything fries, which were delicious! We just had to try a flight to sample the brews. There are some really good beers available here, especially the Belgian blonde, citra pale ale, and the stout. I did not really care for the seasonal sour (grapefruit, I think)--to me, it just tasted like a sour and nothing more, but someone with more interest in sour beers would probably enjoy it just fine. Despite the busy night, our server checked on us regularly and was very personable, stopping to chat with us about the local sports scene. There's plenty to look at, inside and out. If you can snag a seat outside, you'll get to enjoy the waterfront. Inside, the decor is industrial but fun. Not sure if this runs all the time, but when we were there, the tvs were playing vintage beer ads, which was quite fun. They also sell some pretty good t-shirt designs. Overall, Old Stove Brewing is the perfect combo of good location, good food, and good beer. Definitely recommend a visit when in the Pike Place area!

Our apps showed up and they were both delicious. Then 5 minutes later our main dish orders showed up. Wasn't too happy with that because we wasted time to taste our beers and snack on the apps. They need to work on their timing. Need at least 10 minutes in between the beer and apps. The food overall is admittedly top notch. Fish and chips FRESH! The fish was juicy and the fried crust was perfection. Pieces were large. They will ask if you want 3 or 4. 3 is enough. If they can work on timing the drinks and food this place would be a 5 out 5, but will deduct a star because of that. The overall vibe of the place was nice. Huge layout with wooden picnic style tables. Outdoor tables if you're lucky to get one. Large tanks to brew beer surrounding the room and a merch table.

I didn't expect much out of these, but they were surprisingly good. The rice is cooked perfectly, sticky and tender, yet each grain is distinctive and almost bouncy, giving great mouthfeel. The musubi seems to be dipped in a small amount of soy sauce, although not enough to cover the entire rice surface. The additional sodium isn't really needed in the first place due to the salty and meaty kick the spam on top gives the handheld snack. It's a classic combination for a good reason! (4/5) For the Food Walk special, they only give a small scoop of mac salad. I'm sure the normal side portion for $5.94 is much larger. The salad is unspectacular but solid. It's a little sweet, a bit peppery, and certainly very creamy. There's a bit of julienned carrot included that isn't particularly crunchy, being soaked in the mayo sauce. The macaroni itself isn't mushy or overcooked, so it still has some texture. (4/5) I don't usually expect much out of food court restaurants, but Aloha Plates definitely surprised me with their quality. It seems like a solid option for Hawaiian.

Perhaps the Lao Burger served there wasn't as juicy and succulent, with perfectly crisp smashed patties as I recalled? Or perhaps Taurus Ox just serves a completely inferior version. I revisited for a Friday late dinner to reach the bottom of things. This was at around 8PM and the place was surprisingly busy, with a fully running kitchen and almost all seats taken. It's a pretty small restaurant to begin with, but since the food comes fast, people don't typically stay too long. By the time our food arrived, a table had cleared up for us. Lao Burger ($18) - This Lao Burger is just as good as my first visit. Absolutely perfectly fried smash patties, completely with lacy, crispy edges that provide texture and an intense caramelized meaty flavor. I've already described the burger in detail in my previous review - what I can say on this visit is that the burger is basically identical, indicating that Ox Burger is consistent with cook and construction. The burger as a whole has the perfect moisture level with plenty of unique funky, umami-full flavors that make each bite a delight. As with my previous review, two things come to mind that detract just a tiny bit from my full enjoyment. Firstly, the burger as a whole is a bit salty for my tastes, necessitating several trips to refill my cup of water Secondly, the piece of sliced pork belly included is kind of vestigial. It seems to be only there to add additional salt, because neither the flavor nor texture are very apparent while eating. (5/5) Deluxe ($15) - This burger is somehow way messier than the Lao to eat. Upon lifting it up, a mess of watery mustard/mayo mix drips onto the plate. I think it might be from the extra moisture in the tomatoes and lettuce. And yet, somehow the bun isn't soggy at all. This burger is otherwise excellent, combing the same picture perfect smash patties as in the Lao, with the classic fixings - American cheese, bacon, pickles, and plenty of veggie mix. (5/5) I'm glad I gave the Lao Burger another chance. It's now one of my favorite burgers in the city. I'll definitely be coming back to Ox Burger for more. The food was great for all adults involved. Portions of fries are generous and delicious, and come with fancy sauces (none of which appealed to me, but were appreciated by my family). The burgers are really inventive, so we all wanted to try the Lao. It's delicious. I did balk at $18 for just the burger, which is a smash patty (less beef) and I took the cheese, Mayo, and cilantro off. Eighteen dollars! No side, no drink.
