A fun atmosphere with positive vibes. Interesting selection of breakfast, brunch and lunch items. Whenever we're in town we eat here several times. Moderate prices and enjoyable food. Both indoor and outdoor seating. Sometimes you ordering is a little confusing as for some situations they'll give you part of your order initially and for others they ready at all together. Just ask if it's not clear. read more

Honestly was not sure what to except when we walked into the restaurant . First of all the service was incredible .The wait staff is friendly and helpful . I had ordered the hotcakes they even put on powdered sugar , as I asked if they had any . I was excepting your basic pancake , no not even close . I think honestly I have never tasted a pancake this good . It was light and fluffy , not your typical dense pancakes . The Bacon was cooked perfectly . read more

Hattie's Hat Restaurant - Hot Cakes and Bacon - American Near Me - Seattle, Washington

Love this historic cafe from 1904. We enjoyed the Sunday breakfast. I stuck with a country breakfast which came with biscuits and gravy, two eggs, hash brown, and two large slices of bacon. My hubby wasn't quite as excited about the red hash which is apparently mostly beets. They do serve lunch. Happy hour between three and six Homemade pies and soup. Full bar in front. Inside and outside seating. Can get loud but enjoyable. Perfect place to stop during the farmers market on Sundays read more

Came here just as a rest stop before my college best friend, Chooksedo Sam, and I were going to Ballard Kayak for about two hours. It was a good time! Cozy feel with unique decorations that reminded me of a college dorm in the best way possible. Definitely cleaner than one! Got the waffle fries to complement my much-craved mimosas, which did not feel strong at all. I love that the mimosas have a variety of juices to choose from, but I wish that it was stronger to make it worth the price. This place is pricey, but I loved the aesthetic of the location. Waffle fries were standard; nothing outstanding. Service was great, with the kindhearted and humorous staff. I will say that parking here could be tough as it is side street, but we came on a Sunday, so not as busy and it was free! read more

I've been to Hattie's Hat a handful of times now, and I honestly keep ordering the same thing: the adult grilled cheese. It's just really good, no notes, and I don't feel the need to branch out when it hits every time. Food comes out quickly, service is easygoing, and it's the kind of place where you can show up without overthinking it. Parking in the back has always been pretty simple for me, which is a plus in this area. I also just like this part of town in general -- lots of solid spots nearby, and Hattie's Hat feels like a true neighborhood staple that's been around long enough to show it knows what it's doing. Five stars for consistency and comfort without trying too hard. read more

What a gem! Ballards last stand, since 1904! Authentic historic diner. Quirky. Fun. Seattle prices, but what can you do when the City sets the wages? Good service, good food, vibe off the hook, full bar, 24 hour breakfast. Great bacon. AVOID THE RED HASH unless you love beets! It is beets! read more

The service here is consistently terrible. I've been on slow nights and busy mornings and gotten lousy service every time. I've had to hunt down workers to pay my bill when I once waited for 45 minites for someone to check in on me. I've given this place more than a few shots, and I'm not sure why it's still open. The food is also pretty bland and pricey. The atmosphere is nice. read more

We've been to Hattie's Hat a couple of times, usually hitting it just before going to a gig at the Tractor Tavern (it's just a few doors down). Decent food, great service, very good bar selection. Ample places to sit, both indoor and out, with plenty of stools at the bar as well. Service is fast! We had our orders taken shortly after arriving, and the food arrived quickly after that. Food quality is decent, higher end bar fare. I ordered the Chicken Quesadilla, which was quite good. My girlfriend ordered the Voodoo Burger, with a vegetarian patty. She enjoyed it, but found the bottom bun a little soggy, which dampened the quality a bit. Wrt drinks, I ordered the Offset Dry Cider, and she a Tanqueray and Soda. Both were good. read more

We popped in here during the farmers market because it was rainy outside and this spot was somewhere we wanted to check out anyway. Pleasantly surprised to get a table right away and got a big booth, which is always nice. Love the vibe and decor inside, and love that they have the patio structure out front. It took awhile for a server to come over after we sat down but once we started getting service, food came out quickly. I love that they have the early bird breakfast so that I can get a smaller portion of the basic breakfast items. Would definitely come back again and happy hour looks good. read more

We came around noon on a Sunday before walking the Ballard Farmers Market, and they were busy but got us seated pretty quickly. The ambiance is fun and casual with funky decor throughout, however the inside walking areas and bathrooms are all pretty narrow so people using mobility aids may have difficulty navigating the interior seating options. They did have covered and heated outside tables today, so that may be an option other days of the week too. The staff are kept super busy so the service is on the slower side, but the food is tasty and they also had The Nightmare Before Christmas playing on a big screen tv and projector which helped the time to pass festively. Their hollandaise sauce is a bit spicy but not too much so, it's an interesting take on a breakfast classic. read more

It's a great dive bar vibe here. The happy hour menu was perfectly priced for a smaller affordable bite. The chicken quesadilla had chicken, green chilies and cheese. Not greasy at all and a good quesadilla. The hamburger was smaller than the menu priced hamburger. And came with fries. Simple and tasty. The sweet potato fries were cut into circles. Sort of tasty but in a strange shape. And not super crispy. The music was loud and strangely eclectic. Super friendly service. Always appreciated. Everything ordered off the Happy Hour. Came to this restaurant before seeing a show at The Tractor down the street. Good vibes peeps. SYOY! read more

The food was disgusting, and the service was ridiculous. I can't believe they're still in busoness

I came here with a friend and tried the egg scramble with veggies (the hippie scramble) with hash browns. It was a bit watery from the veggies which was off putting but OK. The service was very quick, though. Overall, your very average neighborhood diner. Very casual and pretty cozy with a nice looking wooden bar. read more

We stopped here for brunch. One of our friends said hatch brown was good. It looked okay. My friend ordered extra crispy, you might want to consider ordering extra crispy. I just got biscuits with gravy, it was biscuit with soup. It was not bad but it was not good. It did not have a lot of sausage bits. My other friend ordered chicken and waffle. Chicken was not bone in, it is not your what you would think when you order chicken and waffle. Service was good but we did have to asked for water and refilled on coffee. Street parking , we parked at a lot that cause $5 per hour. read more

We were seated quickly, and our server was nice but unhelpful and unattentive. We ordered the ballard scramble and the chicken fried chicken breakfast. Our food came out in less than 5 minutes, which to us, was questionable in that we wondered how fresh our food was vs. if certain food items (scrambled eggs, hash browns / potatoes, fried chicken, etc.) is kept in warmers in the kitchen, ready to serve. Plus, our food got cold rather quickly. As for ambiance, it kinda stinks when you're seated in the back corner with servers refilling ketchup bottles when several other tables with a better atmosphere are available. Overall, the food was very bland and we left feeling disappointed and unsatisfied. read more

Came for the happy hour! And it was tasty! My friend and I came here to see what the buzz was about and happy hour was the perfect time to go! We tried the bbq rib, wings, and quesadilla. All were solid for the price. My favorite was the rib, whatever they use for the bbq sauce was amazing! Service was quick and it was not crowded at all in a Tuesday. I would definitely recommend this place! It is like an upscale Denny's! read more

My first visit to Hattie's Hat was during a summer bike ride. My husband and I decided to go on a long ride to get breakfast in the Ballard/Fremont area. Hattie's Hat is easy access from the Burke Gilman trail, even bike parking a few steps away. I ordered the basic breakfast (hashbrowns, eggs and toast). My husband ordered a breakfast biscuit sandwich. They also have a full bar; serving mimosas, beer, bloody Mary's, etc! We saved ourselves for beer on the way home so we passed on the libations. I have been at least 10 times since the first visit. It is my favorite breakfast spot in Seattle!! My favorite breakfast is the chicken fried chicken. It comes with toast or English muffin, but I always request a biscuit (bc hello there's gravy!) It never disappoints! Hearty, rib sticking, homemade goodness!!! The hashbrowns are my favorite type! Kind of mashed potato/hashbrowns hybrid! They are delicious!!! Hattie Hat is my new GO TO breakfast spot in Seattle! Service is always friendly and quick... and most importantly DELICIOUS! read more

Love that they a cute patio, indoor seating for brunch is a bit dim lighting if thats a concern at all, super friendly staff, great menu, food and vibes. Its kinda fun seeing the place during the day as it operates as a bar in the evenings! The food was absolutely a treat, i got the chicken and waffle and the chicken, while unexpected and felt more like a chicken patty like a schnitzel, i loved how it tasted. Not too salty, just enough salt and peppery-ness to balance everything out of the sweetness in the waffle. read more

I'm a big fan of brunch, so I was really excited to try Hattie's Hat. It was fine, but nothing to write home about. Mimosa carafes are advertised as $22 on the website, but they were $30 on the printed menu - still more reasonable than other places in Seattle, but a little misleading. My food was okay and tasted god enough. Although, there was an egg shell in my eggs and I was sort of grossed out by the community carafe of raspberry preserves offered, felt a bit unsanitary. read more

We came here for breakfast before looking at the Ballard Farmer's market. It's a cute spot that is easily missed when you're walking through the Farmer's market. We were seated right away and they were playing Free Willy on the TV. That was nostalgic to see. I ordered the Maggie's scramble, my friends got the chicken fried chicken, the early bird, and the Sammie. The wait was not long for the food and it was your typical small spot food. The Maggie's scramble was a great portion and I did not feel overly filled which is good to walk around after. The bill was also decent for 4 people with 4 drinks too. The service was friendly and to the point. read more

my experience didn't quite live up to expectations... The Chicken Fried Chicken was too thin, making it a bit dry. It lacked the juiciness and texture I was hoping for, though the gravy was the best part--definitely the standout sauce of the day. It helped salvage the dish and was by far the most flavorful part of the meal. To top it off, I had ordered my eggs over medium, but they came out over easy. The Eggs Benedict had a lot of potential, but they didn't give us the chicken sausage we asked for, and instead we got chicken fried chicken. I'll say the chicken paired nicely with the benedict and I'm glad we ended up with this. A few parts of it came out cold. The Aunt Harriet's Country Breakfast was also lukewarm, and while the sausage gravy was good, it didn't definitely wasn't as good as the Country Gravy from the chicken fried chicken plate. We were seated outside because they said there was no room inside, but when the table behind us arrived, they were seated indoors. It felt a little odd, especially since the outdoor heaters didn't do much to keep us warm. Eating outside in the cold wasn't the best experience. On a positive note, the raspberry jam on the table was delicious and definitely a highlight. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to save the meal. Overall, it was a pretty average experience. With better attention to detail and warmer food, I could see myself giving it another shot. read more

After a chilly Sunday morning walking around the Farmers Market, come warm up your belly and soul with some hearty brunch. With a wide variety of options, this menu will have something for everyone. I stuck to a breakfast classic - everything bagel, cream cheese, egg, regular cheese.. then I subbed the bacon for tomato. This is one of my favorite breakfast dishes ever, so simple yet so filling! The kitchen is quick, despite being a full house, so don't worry if there's a small wait or it looks busy inside - the staff are true hustlers and get you feeling right with the quickness! read more

Hattie's Hat Restaurant - Max Bagel Sandwich (no bacon) - American Near Me - Seattle, Washington

Hattie's Hat is quirky and comforting-- I always get the Fried Chicken Eggs Benedict and the Pickle Mary, but all of their food looks like a hybrid of southern food and a quirky diner. I love that they do all day breakfast, and I often work from there after the lunch rush is over. The staff never rushes me, the decor is delightfully whimsical, and it's one of the few places in Seattle where I feel comfortable solo dining. I always take my out of town guests before stopping at Venue to look at what the Art-O-Mat machine has. read more

I've been to Hattie's many times. It's consistent, I'll give it that. They provide slightly overpriced, predictably decent diner food and drinks with a dive-y Northwest flare and atmosphere. Today I ordered a Pickle Bloody Mary and the Aunt Harriet's Country Breakfast. It was fine. The biscuit was mediocre at best (I've had biscuits from the Pillsbury cans that were better). The hashbrowns were adequate but poorly seasoned and a bit on the soggy side (maybe it's a matter of preference, but I think hashbrowns should be crisp). My husband ordered a scramble. We each had our meals, a cocktail each, and a coffee. We spent almost $90 on this meal. That seems pretty steep for a dive bar diner... On a separate occasion my girlfriend tried to order a BLT at 11 AM (brunch, almost lunch). And the waitress refused to serve her one before noon. However, she was able to order the bacon breakfast sandwich with the eggs on the side and add a tomato and a piece of lettuce. [If you're not tracking, that is a BLT...]. What the hell Hattie's? How can you be so pedantic? If you're looking for a Ballard diner, I highly recommend Salmon Bay. Better menu. Much better value! read more

We came here for brunch after running a Turkey Trot. Not many places were open on Thanksgiving, but we are glad Hattie's Hat was. It has a bit of a rustic homey vibe to it. The tots here at won point. The right amount of crispy and flavor without being too salty or squishy or crunchy. The adult grilled cheese is also huge and tasty. I ordered a single French toast and it came out as three? Either way that was pretty good too and I took a bunch of it home because the portions are generous. Also had one of their drinks, which was quite nice. The ambiance is kind of old dinner and it's kind of unassuming from outside. The quality of food doesn't seem to match the decor of the place. It'd be cool if they could play more into the retro dinner ambiance maybe? Loved the cat photos though in the back room! The server was very attentive but did seem a bit annoyed when we asked for a little more time to decide on an order and when we asked for the check. They kept repeating it was "one tab" and we said yes that's fine but we didn't get our check yet so we can't pay if we don't have our bill. And they kept saying "Yes but it's one tab". I'm still not sure what was happening but eventually we got our check and paid and it was very reasonable pricing. I'm not sure if the one tab policy is typical or just because we were there for the Silent Book Club event - that would be important to know ahead of time. I'd love to come back for brunch though! read more

Had a blast at karaoke, fun vibe, drinks are fair priced, staff is so friendly. I'll definitely be back.

I'm not sure how I'd never gone to Hattie's, a Seattle institution, until a month or two ago, but it was love at first sight, and that hasn't changed in subsequent visits. The place exudes a nostalgic kitsch that makes me feel perfectly at home. Always something fun on the TV (a la Mac & Me or Romancing the Stone) and on the speakers (whoever selects those playlists should get a gold star). Service is friendly but efficient. Bloody Mary's are recommended and are adorned by pickled okra among other delights. I've only been for brunch which is a pretty meat-centric menu, but there are a couple vegetarian/vegan items. I'm a fan of the Hippie Scramble with hashbrowns and a biscuit. If you come on Sunday they have a Farmers Market scramble made with a selection of fresh veg from the market. Definitely a fav "new" breakfast spot. read more
