This is one of the most intimate spots in all of metro Seattle. Very dark, relaxed and informal. We enjoyed the musical stylings of the Ron Weinstein Trio. Jazz with a twist. Mellow and moody, it went a little deeper than I'm used to, in a good way. I don't really do infused liquors that often. My friends that do, tell me there are wonderful cocktails amongst the Seamonsters. The ladies we were sitting with all had a glass of Chardonnay (but I'm thinking they meant to say Cabernet Sauvignon). Then the weirdest convo ever; my buddy Cliff, asked them where they got the wine(?) Their reply? "NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS" and with that they all left. With live music every night of the week (on Mondays it is a jam where you can sign up and help MAKE the music!), I can always count on dropping in to The Seamonster Lounge to have the music I like: Jazz, Funk, Soul, Jam Bands, Reggae, Afropop, Latin even a Zeppelin cover band once in a while. Most nights there are 2 bands, one starting at 7 and one at 10PM No cover Sunday-Thursday (tip the band and the bartender!) Right by the sea monster is this amazing dumpling place called Seattle dumpling house, ordered there and someone on the street mentioned sea monster was a good so went to check it out with my friends. As we walked up to the door we could see actual moisture and condensation dripping from the windows assuming it was hot as hell in there and overpacked. Thinking it would be fine we opened the door and was met with the most foul hot ass air and a stench of what smelled like dog. Bouncer checks out ids, lets my friends go but apparently he didn't think mine was real even though I'm of legal age. Anyways he apparently doesn't know how applying for your id change in California works....... I could say I dodged a bullet here. Definitely try bars near Capitol Hill they have smarter bouncers there. read more

The men, both patrons and employees, border the line of aggressive and predatory behavior. A girl can't be on the dance floor without someone encroaching on their space and seem to be especially treated at the bar with either disrespect or dissonance. Went last night because it said there was live music. Not only was there live music but I had one of the best drinks of my life made by the owner called a Spanish coffee! I saw him make one for someone else and he lit it on fire and said it was made with livid so I knew I had to have one! The atmosphere was amazing, bathroom was clean! And I loved all the little details of the art on the walls and paintings! Definitely recommend coming here and at least getting the Spanish coffee! read more

So we had plans to go here but we ended up not going in to spend a full time there but we did get to the door and was able to look in and get a feel for the place so I can speak to the ambiance and feel of the place and it is definitely a place we will make sure we come back to get a full experience of. It was a $12 cover per person and we were just a little strapped for cash that night but they had a live band playing that sounded awesome. The inside was not "small" but quaint/cozy. Seemed like a really cool spot to hang out in. We had already eaten that night and I had already had my beer and didn't want any drinks so I can't speak to that or food but the guy that checked our ids was nice enough. Definitely will go back and get the full experience next time though! read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would. I went here with two of my friends, we bought a round of beer as soon as we got into the bar, then proceeded to a corner of the venue close to where the band was playing. We were just minding our business, when this guy starts going off on my friends and threatening them. I tried to calm him down but he couldn't be reasoned with, so I went and told the bouncer. The guy gets removed and we continue to have a good time. Then out of nowhere, one of the waitresses approaches me with no context and asks, "who are you with?" Thinking nothing of it, I point out my two friends. She then says, "follow me", and she leads us out of the establishment waiting until we're gone to say that the venue doesn't sell a brand of beer that she found on a shelf near us. But the beer wasn't ours! We had not even touched those cans , I didn't even realize they were there. We had bar-bought beers in our hands. We all work for large tech companies and we're all in our late twenties, we have no need to sneak beers into a bar. The fact that she didn't ask if they were ours but immediately accused us of something we didn't do made me feel targeted. I was one of probably two black people in the entire bar. My two friends are white, and I'm sure the waitress was surprised to see that but she had already committed to her bigotry. I argued with the bouncer for about fifteen minutes, not even because I wanted to stay at this racist, crappy, waste of space that unapologetically took my money but simply because I wanted some sort of justice. If he could just understand where I was coming from then I'd take that as some sort of win. I'm not sure that he did, but regardless it's a shame that there is so much discrimination and prejudice in this world, and especially in a city that prides itself on progression. My friends and I will never be returning to this bar, and to the manager/waitress who felt like being a complete asshole, thanks for tainting my visit in Seattle and I think you're a terrible person. read more

Go for the Saturday Funky Jazz nights!!! What a fun place if you are looking for some live music. Drink selection is fine - wine, beer, cocktails. I haven't tried any of the food but I think for someone looking to go see some live music at a decent price this place is really under the radar. This is a really cool place for live music. I wanted a place to listen to live jazz, although it wasn't the type of place I was looking for specifically, it was a great venue. The band playing there was really good! Local band, great music and good vibes. The venue itself was pretty spacious, definitely felt more of a club with the large dancefloor and stage. I went on a weekday, so it was pretty quiet but I imagine that it gets pretty crowded and bumping on weekends. Great place for live music, but definitely not the place if you're looking for something more intimate and private for jazz specifically. read more

I wish Yelp could let me give half stars. A three seems too harsh but a four seems too enthusiastic. Came here for a few drinks with friends because we heard the food was good. Atmosphere: It was very dark and oddly sectioned. I believe it was remodeled but it felt very broken up, like three sections stuck together. It wasn't very comfortable. The drinks: here's where I hit some problems. I tried two mix drinks. The first was the mermaid. Nothing on the menu mentioned grapefruit but it tasted overwhelmingly of It? The drink was extremely sour and bitter, not very palatable. The next drink I tried was the bad hombre which is an extremely spicey margarita type drink. I actually enjoyed this but my friends found it not so pleasing. Basically you can feel the chili pepper and jalapeno from mouth all the way down your esophagus. I like spicey things so I didn't mind but eventually it became sort of numbing. But I was surprised with just how hot it was. Definitely felt the heart burn later that evening. The food: food was actually pretty decent. I ordered the red and blue. The buns on their burgers are really really good. Like super good. The burgers are also really tasty as well as being grassfed. The fries were also nicely done, crispy and seasoned well. I don't want to be too picky but the fries were served with a side of marinara sauce which I thought was strange and there wasn't a ketchup bottle to be found anywhere and their house pickles are just strange. I love a good classic dill but these pickles tasted like watered down vinegar and cloves. The service: friendly but so slow. There was only three other people in the place when we arrived but it still took forever. It wasn't a bad experience per say more just meh. read more

My friend and I came just for the Live Jazz and brunch. I must say I was thoroughly impressed! The jazz band definitely knew what they were doing and they seemed to be passionate about playing. This place also has pretty good food options of pancakes, hash fruit etc. Although they don't have a written vegan option you can easily make adjustments to their vegetarian hash or oatmeal and also add sides of toast avocado and fruit :). Absolutely killer spot for local music. Often some of Seattle's best musicians are in the crowd watching.

This place was funky. We came in before the music started, a funk band, and enjoyed a beer at one of the bench tables in the back. The layout of this place is strange and almost feels like they had cut up an old building to make this spot. I'll try to explain. When you walk in its a normal bar area, a bit small with a few tables lining the wall. If you grab your drink and walk up the couple of stairs to the back you're in what's almost a long hallway with benched along the wall. A great spot to sit and listen to the band, but not really see them. The other side of the hall is a brick wall, about one persons length away with arches cut into it all the way down. So basically, from where we were sitting we could see the drummer and bassist. My the guitar, brass, or keyboardist One the band started up this place was packed to the brim. So if you don't like squeezing through a crowd in a tight space you may want to avoid. Good beer selection. Fast bar service for how packed it was. If you like music and dancing (in place) this is a cool spot to check out. There was no cover. Not sure if that's always the case, but definitely a bonus. read more

I love the Seamonster. I loved it just as it was. I loved the bands, the patrons, the staff, the cramped, somewhat "dive-bar' ambiance; and, the psychedelic mermaids and monster on the wall. I enjoyed the sushi, loved the monster burger, the first remodel, and especially dancing two feet from the performers. Live music nightly and never a cover. So, now a major remodel. I am waiting for the reopening on tenterhooks, on pins and needles, with breath abated. Will success ruin the Seamonster??? It will be a much larger venue with a real stage and a dance floor. Larger bands with larger followings will be playing there. The remodel will be a drastic improvement, and I expect the very best possible outcome. I just hope I can still find a place to park. read more

REVIEW IS FOR FOOTBALL SUNDAYS We decided to come to Sea Monster after it was advertised on Facebook that they'd be showing the Seahawks game, be serving brunch, happy hour prices, etc. Upon arrival we were told they had a limited menu. Literally choice of one breakfast plate; bacon and eggs, or choice of burger or hot dogs. Definitely not what we were expecting. I also noticed the Facebook event page had seemed to of been updated to not note any of those things. Hmph. The only upside was the huge projection screen and the fact that literally no one else was there...that should have been a sign? I can appreciate the place but would not come back for a football Sunday. Was a little disappointed that this was my first experience at Sea Monster and got stuck eating a turkey hot dog with some chips since I was starving. Would be better if they had more options but can understand a more limited menu when no one shows up. Sad really, it's a great space for football watching. read more

This spot is such a unique venue. My colleague and I popped in for drinks after being highly disappointed by the Tavern 12 cocktail menu. Sea Monster Lounge did not disappoint! Turns out, very Saturday afternoon from 3-6pm, the stage is occupied by a fun set called "Stranger Band." Stranger Band is when solo musicians come together and create a one of a kind piece while performing on stage. They come in, scribble their name & instrument on a white board on the left side of the stage, and the MC shouts random names to collaborate for the next song. It's a truly organic musical experience that no one should miss. I could sip drinks here (seriously, sipping is the only way to consume the strong signatures) all afternoon, every Saturday and experience something new each visit. read more

Found this place after googling "live music nearby". Ended up seeing 3 shows here during my stay in Seattle, they were all incredible! Great musicians, fantastic sound, variety of drinks, in a nice part of town. Plenty of funk, some classic old school and some original tunes plus a few covers made for a great musical experience. Interesting layout means you can hang out at the stage level next to the band or find a nook where you can have a conversation while still enjoying the excellent music. I was originally lured to the Seamonster Lounge with the promise of sushi and funk music. Upon arriving, I realized I had been lured into one of the strangest dining experiences of my life. I half expected Old Gregg to emerge from the shadows of this divey lounge to share a glass of the creamy beige and show off his downstairs mixup. When I asked to see the sushi menu, I was informed that they no longer had sushi, and should try the tacos instead. It took every fiber of my being to suppress my laughter. I let the waitress know that I had my heart set on sushi, but would pay for my drink and be back for the funk. According to their menu, there was still an hour left of their happy hour prices, yet she tried to charge me the regular amount. When I pointed out the hours listed on their menu, she told me that those times were wrong, but she would "generously" let me have a dollar off. Wow. So generous. The owners should consider updating their website and menus, instead of allowing customers to deal with this nonsense. After I had gotten my sushi fix, I headed back, and was surprised to find that the place was packed full of, perhaps the strangest, most diverse group of patrons I had ever seen. The band had apparently decided to stop playing music and drink with the patrons instead. Trapped in a steamy, underwater nightmare. Sushi place minus the sushi. Hold the funk.
