A novel idea of doing wine tasting without having to make the trip over to a winery. Chez Phinney is right on a fairly happenin' strip so it could be incorporated well into a night out. Walking in we were greeted by the hostess who was welcoming and quickly reviewed how the tasting works. You receive a card that you slide into the Wine displays. The display will light up and you select the wine and the pour size you want. a sample pour will be $2-3, and medium pour will be $5-8 and the full pour will be about $10-14. It varies of course between the wines, aging, locale etc. When all done you turn in the card, and it tallies your purchase. Tried some of the Michou Artichoke and Jalapeno dip with bruschettini crackers. A nice snack to compliment the wine. It's very easy to use the wine displays and is a pretty novel idea. I'm not sure if this is new or has been around but I think it's neat. There are tables to sit at and a couch on the lower level if you want to lounge a bit. Then there is a standing area if you and your group want to stand up while sipping. There is a nice selection to choose from so if you're looking for some wine options with an intimate atmosphere, check out Chez.

    First one ounce pour (12/4/21)

Saturday (12/4/21) was a long day with lots of driving here, there, and everywhere. I wanted a late afternoon spot to just unwind, Chez Phinney was a perfect choice. I had been casing out Chez Phinney for awhile ever since former business, Bluebird, relocated diagonally across the street. Once I entered, wow what a transformation from the former familiar layout of Bluebird to its current iteration. My only exposure to such a wine bar concept was Rapport over on Capitol Hill, but choices there were vast and overwhelming. This was a scaled down version to sample and savor wines, with a handful of beers and ciders also to select from. I was introduced to the set up by a welcoming owner. I handed over a debit/credit card for safekeeping in exchanged for a numbered card used on the dispensing area. Pour volumes available are 1 ounce, 3 ounces, and 5 ounces. When ready to close out one's ticket, complete the transaction at the host stand area. I mentioned that I had interest in merlots, so she kindly pointed out a few to select from. I sat at a two top by the entrance on the main floor. The other floor had additional seating and the open food prep kitchen area. I was provided a wine glass, water/glass, and I ordered a cheese plate with grapes and crostinis. The cheese plate was to take the edge off. I liked the three cheeses selected, but the grapes provided were a bit overripe. Maybe in the future they will consider nuts, dried fruits, salumi as a full charcuterie feature. Whatever, I nibbled through everything during my two hours there. By the way, I also enjoyed the music played. Eclectic from Gipsy Kings to Tame Impala to Andy Gibb. I ended up having three 1 ounce sample pours: two were merlot/cabernet sauvignons from France and for the third, I chose a Malbec from Walla Walla. I was amazed at its assertiveness and definitely made a note to self to order a Malbec next time I have a steak dinner. I look forward to visiting again to continue my wine education. Chez Phinney is a great spot for date night, meet up with friends, or solo oenophiles like me. Terrific addition to the vast retail stretch of Greenwood/Phinney Ridge neighborhoods.

Such a cute wine bar. Was visiting from out of town with my friends and it's such a unique experience staff are very knowledgeable on wines and the card system is pretty fun. The vibes are good we were even cheering along with other tables very Parisian.

This wine bar is so cute and cozy, I love the self pour system and all the selections! The charcuterie board had delicious, unique cheeses and I loved the crackers. The perfect date night or catching up with friends spot. Phinney Ridge is a great neighborhood

Wine and gelato! We had a cheese board and the onion dip! So good

This place is SO FUN! I can't believe more places like this don't exist. The owners are so nice and kind and give you a demo of how it all works. I could come here every week! I'm not from Seattle but I will be missing this place when I leave. Hopefully the idea expands. The wine is good, and I don't even know anything about wine, so this place caters to all. The setting is so nice outside and inside, it has a great set up and lovely little snacks to accompany you through the night. A great place to enjoy with your best friends and great wine. Thank you!!

They opened in October of 2021 and I wish I found them sooner! Close to home and a great quaint little spot for a night out. You walk in hand over a credit card and they give you a swipe card to put into the machine and you taste the wine at your own leisure. 1, 3 or 5 ounce pours. The prices are petty reasonable. Jolene helped us out with our wine selections and was very knowledgeable and friendly! They have wines from all over and I was inquiring about buying bottles and they don't sell the bottles and they have unique wines you won't be able to find anywhere else. They buy limited bottles. The selection gets changed up a lot they said. I like that a lot cause I love trying new wines! We met the owner Julie and she was so great to talk to. Very personable and we asked about renting the bar out for a private party. She said it was doable during the week. I'm excited to get a private party started for our next birthday event. They also have small bites and charcuterie. It looks very delicious so the next time I'm in I'll have to get it. Andrew the other owner was also there in the back bar making up the food. If there's no seating in the front area you can also sit in the back bar. They had the garage door open for a nice outdoor area. I had to try their aperol spritz cause it's my go to. It didn't disappoint! Grab your friends and family and head out for a night of wine drinking. You won't regret it!

Just found this new Wine Bar and I have to tell you it's great! Owners Andrew and Julie are awesome and did a great job creating an inviting, cool ambiance. We had a Charcuterie Board and the Spanish nut mix and both were awesome! Great selection of wine which you get to pour yourself with a nifty card! Super fun and relaxing place to hang out. Definitely one of my new favorite spots!

Don't miss this utterly charming and unprentious wine tasting shop complete with blue checkered table cloths covering the outdoor tables. Their charcuterie (two cheeses and one meat) $19 is available alongside almonds $5 and candied pecans $5. We enhanced our board with a delicious can of lemon pepper smoked oysters by Ekone ("from tide to tin") $13. Highly recommend this he has Rustic Bakery flatbread. They have wine by the glass -- we tasted the Clos Du Mont-Olivet 2022 Lirac $15/glass as well as the Henrich Naked Orange (calcareous and natural biodynamic) $15/glass and the Champagne Jacquart "Mosaïque" Rosé $20/glass. We decided on a bottle of the Lirac and a glass of rosé champagne. They also carry local jcoco chocolates chips as well as tinned mackerel, tuna, codfish. The buyer is exceptionally talented. The curated collection of bottles could go up against the better bottle shops in Seattle -- but with a nonchalant aplomb rich with elegant ease shifting gears between bottles of internationally renowned Bollinger $68 and hyper local The Orcas Project 2024 Garnacha $37 or 2025 Nebbiolo $35 or 3 of 6 allocated Chartogne-Talley Saint Anne extra brut for $98. Favorite part? The staff's educational notes about the wines, how they were made, and tasting notes that holds the greatest value of all. This is one of many newer businesses along the stretch of Stone Way N from Seattle's Wallingford to Fremont neighborhoods. This is a nice, intimate spot with welcoming staff. There are both table and counter seating on the main floor, additional seating on the upper floor. Pleasant, cozy ambiance with wall art, merch, and low light. Quite a large variety of wine bottles to imbibe onsite or peruse for purchase and takeout. Judging from my TGTG pickups, they have a great baked goods source/purveyor whether from onsite or obtained elsewhere. I've been able to enjoy quality baguettes, artisan loaves, sweet and savory baked goods. This is indicative that onsite menu items are high quality to accompany any apps/small plates/charcuterie plates and glasses of wine. It definitely piqued my interest and was duly bookmarked. I had an opportunity to check it out with fellow Yelp Elite/IGer, Carol C (3/18/26). I was able to get a last minute reservation confirmed via email. Both of us were able to get zoned street parking along N 45th. This restaurant is also accessible via Metro. We were seated by Tim, the owner, at a two top by the front entrance. He was very welcoming, personable, and charming. An aside, read the background info about how the restaurant came to be from their website and additional cool details about the owner, restaurateur, and author. The interior transformation was pleasant vibe. There were other tables aligned along one wall. The remaining seating were along a banquette. There's also limited seating at the bar towards the back. Great ambiance, however, it does get rather loud once the restaurant fills up, just saying. Wine, of course, is available by the glass or bottle. There are other beverages like beer and NA choices, but no tea/coffee service. Happy hour specials are also available. Tim provided us the low down on the featured daily specials and gave us enough time to peruse the menu. It's one of those menus that had so many pleasing options. We split the Piatto Misto which was a great way to sample various app offerings including fresh burrata, an Italian meatball, sliced prosciutto & other Italian meats, and two bruschettas - tomato and mushroom. We both agreed that the meatball was the standout. Carol chose the Pasta del Giorno which featured farfalle with mushrooms, broccolini, in a cream sauce with added Italian sausage. I selected the Pasta Salsiccia which had linguine with Italian sausage, mushrooms, red pepper flakes, in a tomato cream sauce. Both pasta mains were rich and generous, that the both of us took home halves of our respective entrees to save room for dessert. For dessert, I went with my fave tiramisu and Carol had the chocolate mousse. Tiramisu was delicious that I cleaned out my serving glass. It was definitely an enjoyable experience and were onsite for nearly 2.5 hours. Well attended to and not rushed. With how costly it can get dining out in Seattle, it's a great to find a place that is easy going, has great variety, and reasonably priced.
