My family loves Blue Sky. We mainly go on Tuesdays because the kids meal is only 99 cents on Tuesdays. With four kids, bargains like this will make you a fan! I have to say though, it isn't just the discount on Tuesdays that keep us going back. If the food were not good, who would care if it is cheaper than another place. The food is AMAZING at Blue Sky! They truly have a fantastic burger but I often order their steak and fries and go bunless. It is two of their patties covered with chili and grilled onions and peppers and of course is served with fries. But when my dad starting raving about Blue Sky, I was eager to try it on my recent visit to Lubbock. We arrived shortly before the dinner rush around 6 and it wasn't very crowded. But by 6:30 the place was completely full! It's fast casual so you order at the counter and seat yourself. It's a standard American menu of burgers, franks, chicken tenders, fries, and onion rings. I always can enjoy a good burger so I went with the Bacon Cheeseburger. You have the option of Single or Double patties. I stuck with the Single patty. The food came out super hot and the counter staff was friendly. I loved the Bacon Cheeseburger! The fries and onion strings were pretty good but a tad greasy. Many napkins were required! Overall, I enjoyed Blue Sky and their burgers. Lubbock is very chain restaurant oriented so it's nice to have something local that stands out. P.S. They are closed on Sundays. read more

Then I did a quick mental experiment and eliminated people's reviews that griped about greasiness and got to the 4 star average. I am going to let you all in on a secret: it's a freaking burger joint adorned with beer and Texas signs all over the place. Were you people expecting Souper Salad? We always enjoy going to Blue Sky. Food is consistent and never disappoints. I go with the bacon cheese burger. Burgers are cooked to order. All their sides are good too. Whether you go with the fries, jalapeños and onion rings you will not be let down. I've never had one of their milkshakes, but a saw about 30 get made during our time there yesterday. The food is generally good and somewhat reasonably priced. However, I have placed 4 To Go orders at this location and 2 of the orders have been completely wrong, and not in a minor way, they have both contained either missing food or completely different menu items than what we ordered. I don't understand how they can get it wrong literally half the time. It's very frustrating to pick up a To Go order, bring that food back home to your family, then realize that part of the order is either completely wrong or missing and then have to drive miles back to the restaurant to get the rest of your food. Really annoyed at my recent experience here. It took 20 minutes to get a cheeseburger, kid's meal, and a salad. I walked in to make my order. I asked how long it would take and was told 10-12 minutes. I looked around the almost empty dining room and realized that no one else was waiting and figured I'd be in and out. Wrong! When my food was almost ready, I saw that they'd put it on trays as if I was planning to dine in. Took a look at my receipt and sure enough, it said dine in. I brought this to their attention. The person didn't apologize. She just told the back kitchen staff that this was a to-go order as she shoved the food on the trays back through the kitchen window. This delayed my food even further. After they'd bagged everything up and my order # appeared on the screen, I got my food, checked that everything was there. From the staff, there were no thank yous, have a nice day, sorry for the wait, nothing! By the time I got the food though, I was just happy to get out of there. Got home, ready to eat and realized my fries were cold. The food otherwise was fairly tasty,but I don't need to go to this place again. read more

We had their take out over a year ago, and tonight had it again. Man... it was SO. GOOD. My husband placed the order in the restaurant and it was handed to him in about 10 minutes at 5:45pm on a Friday night. By the time he got home and we sat down, my sandwich was STILL hot. Came into town for the Tech UT game. First time I have spent any real time in Lubbock since I graduated in 1996. This place has by far the best burgers in Lubbock or many of the places I have been to in Houston. After 4 visits, I can say the place is pretty consistent and makes a good burger. I recommend a double patty burger, because I think a single there isn't quite enough. Another place we frequent, when in Lubbock. Blue Sky has been consistently busy since they opened, several years ago. Even living in the Metroplex, Blue Sky is in the upper echelons of burger goodness. They've got a really good menu, and plenty of choices. DO NOT expect to eat healthy in this place. If you want a yuppie burger with tofu and sprouts...probably need to go elsewhere. If you are into giant, greasy burgers on freshly baked buns, this is the place! Same if you want a giant platter of green chile-topped cheese fries, homemade onion rings (the really thin kind), hot dogs, etc. etc. etc. All that, plus a decent selection of brews (not to mention Shiner on-tap); this place is legit. On our last stop-in, I opted for the Double Green Chile Cheeseburger, and it was a WIN. Quite possibly, one of the best burgers I've ever had (including my own, which I'm a bit partial to). Chiles added a really nice flavor and slight kick to the burger, and were REALLY good on the fries, too. So I ordered the basic cheeseburger without mayo, because mayo on a burger is gross. Anyway, the basic cheeseburger was basically delicious. So many people were in town this past weekend for the TTU/OSU game (including ourselves), so when we headed to one of our favorite burger joints and found the line spilling onto the sidewalk outside, we opted to give Blue Sky Texas a try. The place was busy - very busy. As the guy busing the tables later told us, it was one of the busiest nights they ever had so far. The line to order moved relatively quickly but the girl at the register was unfriendly at best -- very short with customers, no smile. Being a table vulture is not my thing, but there wasn't much of a choice here. All of the inside tables were being used, barstools had been removed from the bar to other tables so no seating there, and the patio was packed with kiddos running around shouting. After waiting about 10 minutes, we finally snagged a table and the young guy busing the tables didn't mind at all when we flagged him down to clean it. You could tell he was overwhelmed but he was very pleasant. Burgers - H ordered the chili burger and I ordered a bacon cheeseburger add jalapenos. We also split the half-and-half (half fries, half onion rings). My burger was pretty good. Patty was dry and a bit overcooked but good flavor, bun was delicious, and the jalapenos added a nice kick. H was not happy at all with his chili cheeseburger. The "chili" comes on the side in a little cup and is not what you would expect -- it's the chili hotdog sauce, not actually chili. Yuck. The fries were really good but the onion rings were soggy, shoestring thin, and overly salty. Ketchup on the table was also not that good - Heinz is always the way to go. I think our order total for two burgers, a half-and-half, and a Coke float was around $23 - not too shabby. Overall, this place was a 2.5 - 3 star experience for me, but I rounded up since they were really busy that night and we may have had a better experience on another night. Are these the best hamburgers in town? Probably not. Certainly not one of the best hamburgers I've ever had (being a Dallasite, it's pretty hard to compete with some of the burger joints we have here). I would probably give it another try at some point in hopes that this place improves where they need to. read more

There are many things that they do great but their menu is almost strictly bar food. Which most people going to get a good burger that does not matter. I ate the single green chile cheeseburger. It was really good but the bun was really soggy for the second half of the burger. I ordered a half order of chili fries because I felt like rewarding myself for my recent strenuous workouts. So I splurged a bit. This order was HUGE! I asked for a half order and that is what they brought me. If you are not sharing I would guess a quarter order would be plenty for most. Although I doubt they would do that. I guess my warning is to make sure you are ready to throw down if you order these.
