It's Alright.. seemed clean enough, food was decent. I've been to many Asian buffets, this one is middle of the road. Went on a Saturday night, prime dinner time. Small sushi selection, decent main course selection. Typical Chinese Buffett dessert selection with those questionable cakes, and puddings. Would I go back, maybe? Are there better options locally? not really unless you go to falls church, or Alexandria. Bottom line is if you're really hungry it will do, if you're going here expecting to find your next great Asian buffet hidden gem, probably not, it's mediocre. To start off, we checked out the food around 1pm or so since this was our first time here; the food looked delicious. This is where it went down hill. First off after we sat down with our plates of food, we all noticed that our food was ice cold. We all had different items on our plates, just a deeper look into this it was 2 kids under 10 yrs old that were with me. There was so much oil once we got the food on our plates. The waitress reached across my guest food to take my other guest finished plate; they bring new plates for their customers, but their fingers are partially in the plate. The onion rings was as hard as the floor. We all found one food that was good and that was the clams and the mussels were pretty good. I was most disgusted when I we went to get fruit before we left and seen dirt and green mold growing on the oranges. As far as buffets go, well they are buffets, right? This one is actually quite good. As most Chinese buffets go, this one has a great deal to choose from. Everything from sushi(which isn't bad actually) to fried chicken. The quality of food is pretty decent. Fairly fresh. And unlike most Maryland buffets, this one doesn't charge extra for drinks. The pho soup could be better but hey, you get what you pay for. Service is good, plenty of seating and a very well maintained and clean dining area. read more

Well...that was awful. I was expecting at least mediocre Chinese buffet food and I was treated to the worst buffet I've ever had the displeasure of paying for. The price was outrageous considering the small selection on hand. When we were seated our table was pungent with the damp aroma of a sour washcloth which had recently graced the table surface leaving a indescribable texture behind. We kept the drinks simple with water, which apparently was in short supply since after our cups runneth dry they never again were filled with the simple H2O fluid. Server after server passed by our glasses which were teetering on the edge of the table as if to say "Please fill me". Not once in the 30 minutes we were there did anyone even consider filling them. While Blue Pearl does not have anywhere near the selection that Golden Buffet has, as far as Chinese buffets go in the DMV (R.I.P. Dragon Sea Buffet), it's not that bad - while Golden was horrific. Plus, there were actually a few delicious surprises. At the weekend "dim sum brunch" (which incidentally barely has any dim sum), yes, the fried crab halves' meat had disintegrated into nothing, their "sushi" were all rolls with imitation crab, and the crawfish and fried eat-the-shell shrimp were woefully overcooked, but: That Chinese crispy roasted pork belly was amazing. I was shocked. The skin was shatteringly crispy, the meat juicy, and the fat layers rendered just the right amount. The dim sum pork riblets were meaty and quite tasty. The potstickers, while on the oily side, seemed housemade with a respectable pork and vegetable filling. The fried shrimp didn't have that iodine-y aftertaste. The crawfish were enormous (you could even eat the claws) and had an admittedly tasty, garlicky sauce even if previously-frozen and overcooked. Plus they had steamed fresh (not frozen) Manila clams and whole female blue crab. And the wait staff was actually very attentive. But that crispy roasted pork belly? This is the worst buffet I have ever been to! The food was disorganized. Food was placed with items that did not make sense to be next to each other, but most importantly the food tasted horrible. Nothing was good. The only thing I liked here was their ice cream and crawfish. The crawfish was okay, but it seemed old. Also, when I went to get a scoop of ice cream the ice scream scoop was placed in a dirty water bowl. The ice cream flavors were all mixed up from other people scooping different flavors. Just horrible, messy, DIRTY!!! The dinner was over priced. It costed $15.00 for nothing. I left still craving for some actual food. As a matter of fact, I ended up getting food from McDonald cause I was still hungry.... And I never eat McDonald. Desperate times calls for desperate measures. Oh! Ten years ago, my pops used to be the DON of Blue Pearl Buffet (formerly known as Dragon Sea). He would sit down and the servers would BRING him plates of their freshest oysters from the kitchen - - at a buffet this is practically unheard of. The servers would go across the street to buy candy for my brothers. At Christmas time he would drop benjamins for all of his favorite servers. But time passed and this place has gone to shit. Their meat and seafood is rubbery. Their Chinese food is overcooked and oversauced. Their endless bowls of pho is underwhelming. Where do I even start? Well first, I give this place a 1.5 from my generosity. I used to go here years ago when it was still called Dragon Sea Buffet. It's never been the best but has never been the worst either. Now? Well, it's just a damn disappointment. Now with the simple errors. The plates I picked up were greasy and oily. Did the staff switch up the dirty and clean plates or something? My silverware had dried, crusted, food left over on it. The tong/spoon handles to pick up food tended to be sticky and had food all over them. Moving on. There is no dish here that exceeds "decent". They're either decent, eh, too hard, too fishy, too this, too that. Some selections were just plain out disgusting. The dim sum could have been better. The dumplings were too oily. Everything that can produce a film on top of it had a film on top of it (i.e. macaroni and cheese) and it was pretty nasty. The desserts were thoroughly disappointing just as they always are at Chinese buffets. Do the owners of Chinese buffets just get together and decide, "Hey, let's feed our customers the exact same desserts that a 5 year old could make better than us". It's literally the same desserts at every Chinese buffet that it's uncanny I tell you. Not to be racist or anything, but I noticed that the majority of the people coming into this restaurant were non-Asian which probably means that if this place isn't mainly Asians something might be up with the food not being up to par (at least in terms of authenticity). The Asians that were in the place seemed like they had no where else to eat, did not know of any other place to eat other than here, or just shrugged and were like, "Whatever let's just eat here". I see people getting pho from this place and have read the reviews about it from fellow yelpers below. And my oh my, what a joke. Why are you getting pho, a Vietnamese dish, from a Chinese buffet that already has a tough time trying to configure their own Chinese cuisine? I am mentally patting all of these helpless victims on the back right now. But hey at least the price here isn't that bad. But the food is, so that's probably why. My husband and I come here all the time! You can't beat the quality at the price. We go on the weekends when it's a little busier so the food stays fresh & hot. The seafood is great, we come for the fried crabs, whole fish, and clams. And there are always nice surprises, like every once in a while they have giant beef ribs that are delicious, there was also a time when they had huge egg tarts. Last time we went they had tofu dessert that was so nostalgic and comforting. Staff is always super friendly. All you can eat? More like all you can't eat... The food here is not very good. Literally the only good thing about this place is their egg tarts in my opinion. My family had been coming here since before they remodeled and changed the name. Before, it used to be called Dragon Seafood Buffet, or something along the lines of that. It used to be decent. My mom knew the manager and he would always talk to my mom and I, ask if we're enjoying the food. I don't know what happened a few years later. I think management changed and so they revamped the place with a remodel and different foods. Somehow this "upgrade" turned out to be a major downgrade. My family came back for dinner one night expecting the same friendly service along with maybe even better food. We expected too much... The food was dry. Most of it looked old. The only somewhat appetizing looking food ended up being too greasy. The steamed buns were dry.. And tasted nasty. They had a salad bar but full of cheap ingredients... Looks like something you can make 10 times better at home. Sushi was made unprofessionally and didn't taste right, the ratio of different ingredients in the rolls were off. And is it just me or do the workers inside make you feel really uncomfortable when you're just walking up to get food? My mom only went for the crawfish, but if that's the only highlight here, it is so not worth it. The dessert was gross too. The only thing I enjoyed was the egg tarts. Overall food experience was 1/5. Their dishes aren't always clean... Which is gross. The ice cream machine tastes like mostly water based? I don't understand how that's possible. Waitresses don't seem to speak English very well so when we asked for certain things they didn't know how to respond or would get the wrong item. Dirty dishes. Very salty food. I come here every so often because they have a selection of shellfish and my mom likes to eat a lot of it. We never leave feeling fully satisfied. Anytime a dish is running low a woman screams into a microphone that leads into the kitchen and it's just a bit odd and off putting to me. A lot of the food is rubbery and overcooked. Today my mother had gotten a dirty cup and when she asked for a new glass he brought back the same glass. And when we said something he brought her a new glass, half filled, with a different drink. The server was nice at first and became rude after we asked for a clean class. Tossing our napkins down on the table. If it weren't for the selection of food, I would've given this place two stars. (I'm probably the nicest reviewer on here lol) Why two? Customer relations is dry. The guy servicing the soup counter was a bit blah. There was a weird smell, coming from the carpet I'm sure, and the mens restroom, vandalism everywhere with missing pieces of wallpaper. A lot of the dishes were pretty common among Chinese buffets too, BUT (here's where they earn an extra star) they did have the following: They have shumai, tofu jelly, and fried anchovies. I LOVE all three. These were dishes I grew up with in the Philippines; Definitely my own Asian-American version of timeless comfort food. Shumai you can definitely find in other buffets, but only in the more high-end, more expensive Asian buffets. The tofu jelly (which we Filipinos refer to as Taho) is less like a jello, but more like a very light tofu custard that you pour sweet ginger syrup over... it's delightful! Then, the fried anchovies I like to dip in vinegar and eat with plain rice, but they're actually pretty good plain too. Really 3.5. I'm looking for the best buffet in NoVa and while this is not it, it's better than the reviews suggest. It's actually pretty interesting. Their sushi selection is extremely limited and overall the place is on the smaller side (though it does have decent teppanyaki). What makes it interesting is a larger dim sum bar than usual, which included steamed pork buns, chicken feet, and a couple of other (mediocre) dim sum items. The chicken feet were quite nice and better than some dim sum places. They also had a crispy pork belly, which was pretty tasty. Never seen that before! There was a pretty good Korean-style beef short rib as well. Despite being somewhat authentic, the quality was spotty. Fried squid had an almost musty, pasty taste, and the takeout style stuff like chicken and broccoli and deep fried things were very average. Teppanyaki shrimp and chicken looked old. The salmon on top of one of the rolls (Rainbow roll, I guess) was so dry it was completely smooth and hard. Did not eat, obviously. Perhaps on a busy day it's better, but it's very average to me. The extra half-star is for the dim sum and pork belly, but aside from being pleasantly surprised by those offerings it's not a place to go out of your way for. read more

I'm in Springfield with the family house hunting and there aren't any Chinese buffets where we live in Pennsylvania so we decided to try the Blue Pearl. It was set up just as you expect and it was packed but we were seated quickly. They do make you pay for the meal before you are seated. Atypical but no big deal. It's not a huge buffet. Not tiny but on the small side. The was some inconsistency with freshness. I was disappointed with the sushi selection which is just a few California rolls. I typically judge buffets on three things. General Freshness, seafood selection, and sushi options. I give them a 2 star for all three butttt they have some odd dishes that I kinda appreciate although I didn't really love the taste (such as chicken feet, shark fin dumplings, and a few other authentic and somewhat uncommon options). Mediocre overall but they likely will have 2-3 things you may have never tried before if you are feeling adventurous. read more

To be honest i give this place a try even though i saw it just only 2 stars but since my friend lived here said that this place is good then i just go here. For the price at $14 without tax after 4, their food is not bad at all. Yes, the crab doesnt have a lot of meat inside, or cheese crab they use crab sticks to add on instead, or their noodles not a lot of option to choose. BUT, remember that we pay only $14 for our BUFFET food so please dont expect too much. For my experience, this place is clean, the food suppose to be change at 4, end up to be around 5 but its ok, that's acceptable. They are nice, good service, helpful. Little crowded, little classy and a bit crude talk. I told an older couple they should take that talk to a bar. The Hibachi cook offers three different sauces to cook your foods on the grill yet there's a block so hearing him is a challenge. Foods on the buffet where good choices but didn't have a nice taste like expected (onion rings and potatoes) though the meats always came out tasty. This place has some indoor charming landmarks they want you to choose for a group. The restaurant (mostly Asian patrons) is in Springfield near of that indoor mall. I've seen this place for years this is my first time eating here. read more

Me and my bf have been coming here and supporting this place a lot. But lately, I noticed they have changed. Please note that we always come here around 4-4:30, at that time we paid for dinner but the last two time, no seafood has served. I asked one of the server and she said it's coming. Nothing came until we finished. Also, it was about 5-5:15. So if you didn't serve seafood, then don't charge dinner price. I remember the last two time when we were there and enjoyed our food for 30 min, the server brought two fortune cookies out, placed on the table and said thank you. The place is good. I thought the overall food was delicious and satisfying. They had a good selection of dishes which I sampled most. The lady was attentive to make sure the pans were full or kept on stirring the pans to make sure nothing dried out. As with most buffets, there's some stuff I liked and some I don't like. People need to set their expectation when coming to these type of buffets. If you want FuFu type of decor, fancy place, cute decorations, pretty plating, then don't come here as you'll be let down. Seriously, what do people expect for $9-12ish all you can eat. As far as the food, I thought it was delicious and satisfying.
