It's normally four stars for me but this time was a bit flat. Blue Mango is kind of an interesting mash-up spot, leaning somewhere between Japanese and Korean. It's casual and easy to drop into if you're in the Coleman area. The standout for me is still the crab fried rice. It's flavorful and easily the best thing we had. The rainbow roll was good too, especially if you like sushi rolls that are both savory and sweet. The garlic noodles were underwhelming. They were thin vermicelli noodles all stuck together and mushy with some fresh garlic mixed in; very flat. Overall, it was a mixed bag, but if you go, stick with the crab fried rice and you'll probably leave happier.
I finally had a chance to try this restaurant. Loved the music that they were playing. I wanted to jump to my feet and dance. A friend and I had their sampler appetizer and ordered 1 side of rice. It was a perfect portion for 2. My favorite was the coconut prawns. The food tasted fresh and dipping sauces were tasty. My friend ordered a mango soda which was not too sweet and great flavor. Cute decor! Service was definitely below average. Definitely worth coming back. Happy to be able to get a discount on my bill by using my Passport credit card.
Tldr value and tasty Thai food I randomly found this place and decided to try it with my family. We were not super hungry so we just ordered two dishes: mango curry and pad thai. We were very pleasantly surprised by nothe the flavor and the portion size of the food. The pad thai was very flavorful and the sauce they used to try it was really good. Most other pad thai places I have been to tend to be on the sweeter side but this was very savory and well balanced. The mango curry tasted more average but the mango chunks were interesting. I wasn't really a fan but my family enjoyed it.
Blue Mango is located in the San Jose Market Center next to Trader Joe's. Parking is challenging in this ultra busy plaza. Interesting concept of Thai and Japanese Sushi. The inside is decorated like a Thai Restaurant, though, you can see the Sushi Bar and refrigerated display case for the assorted fish. They currently offer a BOGO for their Basil & Chili Stir-Fry: choice of protein (chicken) w/ bell pepper & onion. Choose your spice level 1-10 (3.5/5). They used chicken breast meat, in their flavorful sauce. Thai Ice Tea (4/5). Not too sweet, but creamy. Pretty standard. The service was nice and friendly.
IMHO Generally good food. I eat here often. I wanted to try new dishes this time. Loved the 6-piece Cha Cha wings! Didn't like the Peanut chicken salad. Chicken was horribly dry. Won't order again. Seaweed salad refreshing. Combo pad thai good.
Update from vegetarian reviewer: I visited the restaurant again after about 5 years yesterday and I definitely want to update my review. Happened to try a bunch of things yesterday in a big group and it was a good experience for the most part. 1. Veg papaya salad tasted refreshing, maybe 3.5/5. 2. Roti curry - curry was on the sweeter side but great, roti was oily and not crispy. I wouldn't recommend this dish here. 3. Dynamite- spicy and yum, a great try for vegetarians 4. The other deep fried sushi was not worth it, also too sweet. 5. Creme cheese wonton- crispy and simple, this was great. 6. Green curry - yum, it's a great order too 7. Drunken noodles was a good order too - spicy and appetizing. 8. Red curry- was good too There was one sever taking care for about 5-6 groups and she did a great job. The restaurant has few tables and chairs so it's not easy to find a place on a busy day. Loads of parking available in the lot where the restaurant is, even on a busy day.
I got Yellow Curry, family got sushi. Best of both worlds, waitress was on point - where can you go where the staff has worked 14 years, Blue Mango!!! Crazy. I took a photo of the place, so clean, was able to get seated very quickly. I will definitely be coming back.
I picked up an order for dinner. Pad Thai was good but the "fire wings" defined on the menu as "crispy chicken wings" were so so bad. Not cooked, not crispy at all and flavor such a disappointment. Couldn't eat it. They are very fast with putting the order together...maybe too fast. Prices are too high for what it is.
Maybe we got lucky with the food because both of the dishes we ordered were delicious. The "Blue Mango Fried Rice" with chicken and sweet garlic pork had perfectly fried rice with the grains being fluffy rather than oily and tasted fragrant too. The mango poke bowl had a good amount of tuna, salmon, mango, avocado, and cucumbers with dried seaweed as well as seaweed salad mixed with lettuce on top of rice. I have no idea what the light orange sauce covering everything was but I'm guessing it was the typical mayo + Sriracha + rice wine vinegar combo I see in recipes. Service was prompt and friendly. We were the only people there around 1 pm on a Saturday. The smell of incense is really strong but I like it. Some people might find it off-putting though. Hoping the restaurant will still be around in the future and we can visit again to try something else.
Ordered from here through a delivery app recently. Had a Panang curry with veggies and Eggplant stir fry with tofu and veggies. The food tasted ok. Though felt the quantity was kind of less for almost $16 per dish.

:( awe man, not my fav :/ the veg sushi was underwhelming and had a funky taste with no spicey spice. i recommend ordering the gween cuwwy if you come here, soy yummo! but other than that Blue Mango lives up to it's 3 star rating, unfortunately. she was aight, but def not the best. ty to our waitress for staying on top of everything and helping us order! you slayed queen read more

The worst Pad Thai I've ever had. Who puts broccoli in Pad Thai?? For some reason, it tastes like straight up foot. The garlic noodles weren't bad, but it's definitely NOT what I was expecting when opening up the box. read more
I really loved the atmosphere here! It's clean, open, inviting, and somehow calming. The unique thing is you can get both good sushi as well as good Thai food at the same restaurant! I was like whaaaaaat oh hells yes! The servers were awesome. I came in here 20 minutes before they closed... and I've never in my entire life had faster service! They powered through and got me all of my dishes extremely quickly. 1. Spider roll: 6/10 2. Explosion roll: 6/10 3. Pad kee mao: 3/10. I liked this one less. It didn't seem to have any flavor to it. I might have to try this again sometime to see if it was a one-off though... 4. Tom kha gao: 6/10 I really liked eating here, in particular because of the ambiance, service, and combination of cuisines. I will definitely return! So many interesting flavor combinations to experiment with, so little time... wheeeee! read more
I've passed by Blue Mango so many times on the way to Target & Trader Joe's. I finally got a chance to try it for dinner and I ordered their shrimp fried rice. There were only 2 shrimps in there total, which was kind of a bummer. The shrimp was also pretty bland, as was the dish in general. Service was also meh. Overall, not the worst place to eat, but Blue Mango wouldn't be my first choice for Thai food. read more
Been here a couple times but it's always disappointing. Service: Service was great -hence the two stars. They are always so friendly and nice. Food comes out timely and overall service is on point. Food: mediocre. I had the yellow curry and the potato was spoiled. The appetizer soup is always bland and boring-not appetizing at all. The most decent thing was the "curry fries"-but only the fries. I would think there would be curry powder or curry dipping sauce but they give a small side of curry which doesn't even hold onto the curry when dipped. The lion roll was so plain and the roll didn't even hold together. Pad Thai is unflavorful. If you aren't starving to death, skip this place. Parking/location: Plenty of parking at all times of the day. It's located right next to Trader Joe's so I enjoy stopping by TJ afterwards. It's also part of a huge shopping area so there's plenty of other places to go to for food!! read more

First time here, got the coconut soup (with tofu) and some lemonades. The lemonades aren't made with real fruits, syrup flavorings with toilet lemonade. Food looks good but I don't like the flavor of the soup I got. Very sour and very acidic. My boyfriend got the dynamite sushi roll and it was okay, better than all the food we got. He also got the mushroom mountain and said he's glad I didn't taste it because that shit was disappointing too. Service is whatever, the servers come and go so fast you can't even ask for water or whatever you need. The curry fries was probably the best item we got. Will not eat here when I'm back in town. Do I recommend? No not really, waste of money for whatever food. I just like that they have a variety of foods, but I don't like that mf coconut soup, looks good, smells good but just NO. I feel so sick, stomach hurts, feeling like throwing up. Expensive as fuck for nasty ass food. read more
I've been to the past location off Stevens Creek, and was glad to come back to this newer location. Our waitress was really bubbly and nice. I saw lots of people ordering sushi, but we our large party all opted for Thai. Normally I don't like the complimentary lunch soup, but theirs is really good and vegan friendly! Hot curly fries with a curry dipping sauce is genius! So delicious! I ordered panang curry with beef, and free refills on rice, what?! The curry was enough for 2 meals, and enjoyed the reheated leftovers just as much as the first time. Salad was really fresh and good too. Strawberry lemonade was too sweet, I had to dump lots of water in it to make it bearable. Fried banana with coconut ice cream was delicious too! My biggest con with this place is that they serve their dishes randomly. One friend got her chicken satay almost 20 minutes from when the last person in our party got her dish. I noticed they did this with other parties as well, where one or two dishes came out at a time. Not fun for the person to eat cold food to wait for the last person to get her dish. Overall, good food and good prices, but they really need to work on the timing of their dishes. read more

To be honest, it had been a while since I eaten here (3 years). Quality had gone downhill and price has gone up. Ordered a beef pad see ew to go. First, I was shocked when I got there to pay...one dish...$20!!! Then I got home and I opened the container...2/3rds full. Taste was flavorless and the noodles were in bits and the meat was very chewy! Sad to say, I one be going back. read more

The service here is really good! Fast and friendly waiter. Food is actually spicier than I thought it would be (so a 7 out of 10 might actually be dangerous). My one warning is don't order the sushi-related items. To be fair, it is a Thai restaurant so idk why you would order sushi. read more

On a Saturday night this small restaurant was quite mellow. There's both Chinese and Japanese food here and what I ordered was: SPECIALTY ROLL - SAKURA - $12.95 Inside: Salmon, Eel, Cucumber Top: Spicy Tuna, Tobiko Garnish: Creamy, Unagi Sauce I chose this roll because it had everything I love. There's so many rolls to choose from which made it hard to decide but I went with this one! It was good! REGULAR CALIFORNIA ROLL - $7.95 Imitation crab, Avocado, Cucumber, Creamy Sauce. I knew one roll wouldn't be enough for me but didn't want to pay too much so I reserve to the CA roll, which is something I don't usually order. I liked it came with a creamy sauce but this roll was overall a bit of a disappointment. They put a whole imitation crab instead of a salad version of it which didn't make it taste great. Overall this roll was okay. I was able to convince the table to get dessert! There was 7 of us and we decided to share 2 desserts: BLUE MANGO STICKY RICE - $5.95 Sliced of sweet mango with a mound of sweet sticky rice, covered in a thin layer of coconut milk. Seasonal. I highly enjoyed this simple treat! The sticky rice was brightly blue--not too sweet. I always want more sauce but the amount of coconut milk is good enough! Everything in this dish including the mango were subtlety sweet which I really appreciated! MANGO SAMOSA - $5.95 Four pieces of Samosas stuffed with mango and sticky rice, drizzled with coconut milk dan chocolate syrup, served with a scoop of pineapple-coconut ice cream. This was so good! It's like the other dessert but put to another level! It's wrapped up in thin dough and fried! But wait, it slaps served with ice cream!!!! This was so good!! Overall I had a nice experience here. The menu was quite overwhelming with the choices and variety. I felt the prices were steep but everything was tasty. I though the desserts were reasonably priced though! read more
I've heard of the term once in a blue moon, I got blue balls, even blue suede shoes, but can u please tell me what is a blue mango? If I ever come across one, I certainly dont wanna eat it. So we decided to come here out of the blue. It was the Friday before NYE and I think I was the only sucker working because it seemed everyone else was off. I walked in this place expecting it to be empty because of the so-so reviews, but to my surprise it was actually packed with the exception of one empty table. That table belonged to us. We sat down and glanced at the menu for probably 2 minutes but waited like 15 minutes before someone bothered to come take our order. I ordered the crab fried rice and my friends ordered some pad thai and tofu Pad Kee Mao. Then I thought, why is this place classified as a vegetarian restaurant on Yelp? Last time I checked neither crab, pork, chicken, nor shrimp was vegetarian. Weird. Our order came and out came our tiny portions. The last time I checked we were in America. Americans like big portions so if you like it super sized, dont come here. Dont come here either if you like it flavorful. It was bleh. Wasn't horrible, but nothing to write home about. There are no condiments on the tables either for you to add spicy stuff, salty stuff, or peppery stuff. My crab fried rice had real crab in it, but wasn't loaded as some claimed. The flavor didn't jump out at me like I expect Thai food to taste. When we left, they handed us an envelope and the lady said "come back in 2012 with this, but DON'T open this". It's an envelope with some supposed discount coupon for future dining. I dont think my New Year's resolution is to eat at bland expensive thai restaurants with small portions. read more
Blue Mango = Blue Magic? If Frank Lucas ordered the fried rice, he would think so. I have only ordered one entree from this place twice but it's that good. The chicken fried rice topped with pork is superb. There's a hint of sweetness in the dish but it plays off well with the spice in which I prefer. I came here during the lunch break and ordered it for pickup. So I can't comment on the service here but the hostess/waitress was friendly & kind. The food was waiting for me when I got there as patrons shot me glances like I was a bookie or something. Haters gonna hate but this place gets a thumbs up in my book. read more

Went there on a Tuesday for lunch. The Buddha display with incense burning at the entrance looks very neat (I even took a photo). After I was seated, I realized the incense smoke was so strong that it filled the entire restaurant. I tried to switch seat but the smoke was everywhere. So I left before I ordered food. Too bad, I came there a few years ago and liked the food. I don't remember having the smoke issue back then. My rating is for the ambient, not the food. read more

I came here with my family because Sweet Tomato was over packed. Unfortunately, it was a bad decision. I read the yelp reviews, but wanted to give it a chance anyway since it was just a few feet away. The restaurant was short staffed, so the wait to be seated was long even though there were empty tables available. The waiter/waitresses made mistakes left and right, such as giving me a salmon skin hand wrap instead of the salmon skin maki that I ordered. They wrote it down too, but read it wrong? It was just a mess that day. The food was okay. The pineapple fried rice and pad thai were soggy and wetter than usual. The portions were small too. The nigiri had a large portion of rice though when it should have been smaller. I like the salmon skin maki best because it tasted like it was suppose to (crunchy!). Overall, I wish they would hire more people and get it together. Or maybe I just came on a bad day? read more

Good sushi, good service, okay ambiance. Not generous with amount of fish, by any means...but Super Salmon and Fresh Rolls were tasty. Definitely not a 5 star restaurant, but it's not a sketchy 3 star place either. It does the job. read more

I heard from a friend that this was a great thai place, but as soon as I stepped foot inside and saw that there was also a sushi bar, I sensed something was off. First off, the vibe and ambience was off as it was awkwardly quiet and no music playing in the back. Secondly, the food was laughably bland. The chicken pad thai at mild spice tasted like air, and the veggie pad see ew was just okay. One of the servers was nice, but the other took a long time to take our check, despite after seeing me wave at her several times. I'll go elsewhere next time, and I'll tell my friend to check her taste buds. read more

Mediocre at best. I tried this place during happy hour and although the menu was pretty big, the food was not very good. I tried one shrimp tempura roll and it was boring and bland. The thai food is better, but not by much. There is nothing "spectacular" about their food. The pad see ew was okay. The papaya salad was dry. The one good thing was that I didn't have bad service. The guy was very helpful and nice. I'm not coming back anytime soon. Not worth the money. read more
Thai food and sushi is definitely a unique combination I've never seen before. Blue Mango offers sushi rolls, along with a variety of authentic Thai dishes. The service here is pretty good. Waiters are attentive and the food comes out fairly quickly. Beef pad see ew - (3 stars) Beef was chewy and the noodles were plain. Mushroom Mountain - (4 stars)There was hardly any mushrooms for a dish named Mushroom Mountain. The bamboo and chicken combination worked well together but the portion size was tiny. This dish was too plain to even eat with rice. Seafood platter - (4 stars) This dish costs $17 and it was tasty. There wasn't enough seafood to make the price worth it. But the fried catfish and the sauce was delicious nevertheless. Mango samosas - (2.5 stars) The menu description looked amazing for this. But it did not live up to our expectations. The samosas were so small and the mangoes were sour. There was no sticky rice inside either.. The pineapple icecream was just ok. Mango, passionfruit, raspberry bons - (5 stars) These were my favorite part of the meal. The sorbet was soft and perfectly sweet. The sorbet comes out covered in white chocolate with chocolate drizzle. Highly recommend! In the end, the dishes here are overpriced for the portion size you actually get. Service is good. Blue Mango is a cute little Thai/Sushi restaurant. It's so tempting because it's located outside of a Trader Joe's and I often want to skip grocery shopping and eat sushi instead. I have been here several times and have never had a bad experience. The staff is friendly, not 5 star service but not terrible. The ambiance is a small restaurant but have never gone where it is overly crowded or uncomfortable. The food is decent as well. I'm a huge fan of their sushi and my boyfriend goes for the Thai dishes of the restaurant. My favorite roll is the Lion King Roll, it's so savory and the baked salmon melts in your mouth. The spicy crunch roll is interesting. It has buffalo sauce on it but the taste was quite delicious (I like the Americanized sushi, can you tell?!). If you're looking for some decent sushi at a fair price (most sushi is highly priced, especially specialty rolls) definitely give this place a try! Also, I love their Thai tea to wash down a roll. read more

I like this place, the food is good, but their take out portions are significantly smaller than In person orders. I'm ordering to support them but if I'm able to, I'll never order take out from here again, I'll only go in person. read more
Good Thai food. Tried Panang curry and yellow curry both of which were nicely prepared and tasty. Also tried sushi 'dynamite' which was not bad in a Thai restaurant. The service is little slow but overall the food quality and portion size is good. Mango curry is creamy which goes well with steam rice. Spicy fried rice is tasty and very less oily and so is pineapple fried rice. The portion size is good for one. read more
