This review is long overdue. I have enjoyed Thai Spice of Willow Glen since its inception. Up until 18 months ago, I lived in Willow Glen (San Jose burb) for 20 years. I now live in Santa Clara - and I love it. It's been an adjustment downsizing from 1M folks and all it's offerings to a 200k ish college town. A note of mention, the food scene in Santa Clara packs a punch. It's compact yet an epic food scene in its own right. Particularly various Asian cuisine. With all that said, I have yet to find a spot that holds a candle to this TS location. From the great parking, ADA compliance, interior ambiance, extremely clean, seasonal Spirit, immediate greetings, hospitality, patient yet quick service, incredible degree of spices (nothing spared) and nice portions- no lie, every other place falls short of the glory. Babe here on a Friday night around 8:30pm. It was quiet and we were seated immediately. The decor was nicely Thai themed. Staff were nice. We ordered spicy Thai fried rice, pad Thai, egg rolls, and chicken satay. It was okay - the texture was odd on the chicken satay; the rice was not spicy but the jalapeños were hot which were served on the side. Even though it was near closing time, we didn't feel rushed but we got out by 9:30 closing regardless. read more

Went with my mom to this restaurant, and there are two doors - one for pickup and one for dine-in. We were the only customers at the time! We tried the Panang Red Curry and the Eggplant Chicken. We waited for about 2-6 minutes for our food. The curry is creamy and savory, and there was a good balance of chicken, bell peppers, and the curry for a rice side to go along with it. The eggplant chicken is smothered in sauce, which is either a good or bad sign for you. The sauce is both garlicky and sweet, and yummy! The server energy was a bit low, but it's reasonable, because we visited at a later hour (8:50). One of the best Thai food places in the area. I keep forgetting to take pics because I just eat it up. Some places are too heavy (for me) with coconut milk but here there is a nice balance. A great variety too! We've only ordered through DoorDash from this place so it's hard to tell you about the in-person experience, but I know the food it's so far the best Thai food in the San Jose area. Please let me know if you have found better. FOOD: We've tried the yellow curry (excellent with tons of chicken and potatoes and carrots), the pad thai (again excellent and plentiful), the chicken satay (my daughter's favorite), and the fried wontons (right - not specifically Thai, but so good). All of it was excellent! Really, I want to expand my tasting here but these are so amazing and so hard to find truly good yellow curry that isn't too heavy on coconut or lacking in protein. SERVICE: Again can't speak for in-person, but the packaging is spot on and never is messy. The portions are more than plentiful (always have enough for one or two extra meals). COST: For Thai food? I tried Thai Spice for Saturday night dinner. The place came recommended from a friend so I was excited to try their dishes. It was October and they had numerous Halloween decorations that added some fun to a traditional Thai ambiance. We were seated quickly and our server was pretty attentive. We tried the following items: -Thai Iced tea (5/5; solid and just as it should be) -papaya green salad (4/5; solid but the dressing could have been more flavorful and we asked for it spicy but it wasn't at all. This dish comes with generous butterflied shrimp which was a nice touch) -pad Thai (4/5; solid, nothing particularly special. We did get it w tofu and it also came with tempeh which was weird in texture and taste. I honestly just avoided bites of this...) -spicy eggplant with chicken (4/5; again, solid but I wish it had more flavor. The chicken was tasty but pretty dry. all the veggies esp the eggplant were well cooked) -pumpkin curry (4.25/5; my friend LOVES this dish. I found it to be tasty but not mind blowing. Maybe some additional acidity could have added to the complexity of this dish but it was quite good) -spicy noodles/pad kee mao (4/5; solid flavor, lots of veggies (I hate that it came with baby corn though...), shrimp were cooked well, noodles didn't stick together and were flavorful. Amazing Thai Food! I was craving a warm cozy soup over the weekend so we decided to go for Thai food. I am aware that this place happens to keep their kitchens super clean. I know this from an insider who happens to own the building in Los Gatos that rents out to Thai Spice' family. Same Thai Spice family in Willow Glen. I ordered the Tom Kha (Coconut Milk Soup) with chicken, a popular choice. It's loaded with Thai herbs (includes lemongrass - which I love), mushrooms, lime juice, cilantro, in a hot and sour coconut milk. Absolutely delicious! I did order the "pot" for potential leftovers. I also had the fresh shrimp spring rolls that come with the most flavorful peanut sauce. The service was pleasant and super fast. This is now my favorite Thai restaurant. All of their food is delicious, flavorable and they don't skimp on ingredients like many other Thai restaurants do. Last night I ordered for pick up. I love Panang Curry so that was my choice for the evening. When I clicked on the item to order, I noticed they offered rice, salad and the soup of the day for an extra $6. I jumped on that! The salad was a green salad with peanut dressing, the soup was a spicy coconut soup with vegetables and of course the Jasmine rice is always perfect with curry. The Panang curry is sweeter than red curry. Their version is absolutely delicious. It is filled with yummy ingredients, which also includes the Thai basil which I love as it adds such a yummy flavor. Chicken was my choice and there was a lot in my dish. Perfectly seasoned and cooked. Absolutely delicious. It was the perfect way to end a very rainy cold day with no power in the house. Picked it up and came home to power and still kept those candles burning for the perfect ambiance in a storm. Thai food is good comfort food. This restaurant serves up the best. read more

Came here with my friends as one of the first few places I wanted to try in the new year. We got seated after waiting for about 5 mins. The staff was busy but accommodating. The ambience was decent. Not too formal not too casual and was decently busy. Mainly family dining is what I noticed. We took some time to look over the menu and saw it was extensive with lot of veg friendly, chicken, seafood and other meat options. This worked out very well for our group. Would rate this place a 3.5. Pretty solid spot for Thai food, there's a parking lot outside and plenty of indoor seating. The ambiance is pretty quiet and dark. The servings are pretty large so I feel like the prices match how much food you get. I ordered the thai spicy fried rice with chicken and it had a good basil flavor. I have been coming to this restaurant (both the SJ and LG location) for years after a friend introduced me to it when I first moved up to the bay area. It has always been a favorite of mine and I've introduced many friends to dine here. The food is consistently good and flavorful. Whatever you get, it's usually pretty good. The only complaint I would have is that it's never spicy enough for me - no matter how spicy, extra spicy, thai spicy, really spicy I ask for my food to be - it's always kind of okay spicy. I have no idea why I can't get it made spicy enough for me - but it seems to be good for everyone else I go with, so I guess it's fine. Service is usually pretty quick. During the "to-go" only years, my food was always ready when I ordered for pick-up. When dining in, the atmosphere is quiet and calm, with the occasional big groups making big group noise - no big deal. I always have to have the papaya salad and usually rotate between the green beans with beef, spicy catfish, pumpkin or duck yellow curry, pad thai, pad seew and tom yum soup. Once in awhile, I'll opt for one of the other main entrees, but I tend to stick to the ones I've mentioned above as they are consistently good. I typically order my food togo but I believe you can dine in now. The service is nice, friendly and fast and the ambiance is casual. We came to Thai Spice on a Wed night. There was no wait and 3 other people seated. They always greet us with smiles, and they are very pleasant. When reading the reviews and looking at the poor quality photos, I think they are getting a disservice. We ordered Chicken Satay and Roti (unfortunately, I forgot to take a photo, so I had to lift one off the internet). The Satay is fresh and delicious. The condiments that come with it are also very tasty. The Roti was warm and flakey. The same peanut sauce that comes with the Satay comes with the Roti. It's thick and not watered down like another reviewer stated. Our entrees were Chicken Ra-Na with Broccoli instead of spinach (the guys favorite-fresh thinly sliced chicken and broccoli perfectly cooked with a thick peanut sauce), Pumpkin Curry - Veggie - medium spicy (always delicious - super fresh and loaded with veggies. The pumpkin squash is cooked so it falls apart in your mouth) hopefully someday it will get back to being served IN the kabocha, and Spicy Spaghetti - Veggie - medium spicy (fresh and delicious - think of it as Thai tasty chow mein with lots of delicious healthy veggies and not greasy like chow mein). We ordered white rice and shallot rice. The shallot rice is cooked in the pan with the shallots, so it takes on a crispier texture and darker color. We loved our meal. We didn't appreciate the loud table next to us of two women complaining about the price of the peanut sauce and how they don't eat rice or noodles (not sure why you would come to a Thai restaurant then). But it wasn't the restaurants fault for their lack of situational awareness. We've always loved Thai Spice and have never had a bad meal there or takeout. The pandemic REALLY hurt their business, so please give them a try if you're in the area. read more

And when I ordered, I asked for extra peanut sauce and he said there's a charge so I asked how much and he had to go ask the owner or manager (Asian lady) and when he got back he said "$5.00 for peanut sauce but I can bring you peanuts for free" whaaaat??? What happened to Thai Spice. I use to go to another location in Irvine, CA when I was in college and although it was 2008; there was no extra charges for sauce at all. This is some of the best thai food I've had in San Jose! I had the Pad Thai with vegetables. It was only $15 for a huge serving. The dish was full of vibrantly colored vegetables and the sauce was a nice deep rich color as well-- I note this because I've noticed that pad thai with a pale color doesn't taste as good, lol. The dish was tangy and sweet and somehow I was able to clean my plate(probably because I'd only eaten a scoop of protein powder mixed into water that day, but still). The waiters did a great job, ladling soup for us and being attentive to our table. The interior is nice, clean, and decorated, perfect for a dinner with friends. I'll definitely be back! read more

They turned off the AC while we were eating. Our baby was asleep in the stroller & it's almost 90F outside. I'm dripping sweat trying to eat my food. 4/10 cheap ingredients and my husband wanted spicy duck and it wasn't spicy at all. I asked them if their ac was working she said oh we turn it off when we close (but they actually turned it off about 20 min before they were closing). We were eating at 2pm they closed at 2:30. Never going back. I can't believe their employees are supposed to clean the kitchen w no ac. I don't support this type of mgmt. very gross. read more
