Got inside and put our name on the list and we were told about a 40 minute wait. No problem, went up to the bar, got some drinks and found some seats by the slot machines. Started off with a Tito's and Sour Tall, a double Kettle One Dirty Martini and a Spotted Cow. Spent about $30-$40 in the slots while waiting for a table. When we were sat, our server was right on top of things and got us another round of drinks. We all had the AYCE Baked Fish, Battered Fish and Chicken Special and we all had Baked Potatos. I've been here several times. Last went on a sat night for steak. I like that they offer a "lighter portion" menu as a 5 oz filet is perfect for me. Meals include wonderful fresh baked bread. With lighter menu, you have choice of soup or salad (you get both with regular entrees) and potato choice. Their homemade soups are great. Tonight was cream of asparagus. My steak was bit overdone, but flavorful. Dining partners had prime rib, saying it was "ok"- not the best, not the worst. Old fashioned definitely hit the spot! I would leave a 0 for this place if I could.... First off we were seated by a young man who was super nice. Once at our table it all went downhill from there. Monica the waitress came over and without a smile said "what can I get you to drink?" Not hello. Not any kind of greeting. The second we finished our drink order she ran off like she was in a race. Now I have been a waitress in the past and even if I am busy have never treated customers so rude. She took our food order once again ran off like her pants were on fire. While we were eating, the waitress and busers kept coming over and trying to take our plates before we were even finished with the meal. I don't want to be rushed at my Friday night fish fry sorry. I had a long week and want to talk with my husband. The all you can eat fish ($18) was okay. The fish has no flavor. The chicken was very bready. U get one baby plate of dry bread (1/2 piece per person) and oil based coleslaw-and u do not get more. Every person gets about 1 tbsp of coleslaw & tartar. Asked for more tartar and it was the end of the world. Chicken was dry! Fries were fries. Soda does not have a refill. They were taking our plates and placemats off the table before we were done. A lot of updates are needed here...the landscaping, the building, the atmosphere and the ambience. I'm all for old school, but this was just old. The food could use an updating as well, everything was just ok, not bad, not good, just ok. Our meals lacked flavor and depth from the bread to the soup and salad and the steaks. We went for the Friday night fish fry, and it was good and reasonably priced. We had reservations but still had to wait a while. The waitress we had was the usual grumpy one and she was trying to get us out of there as soon as possible. Get them in and get them out should be her motto. I felt that it was crowded so she does not have to be nice to anyone. I understand getting fast turnarounds, but she does not need to be rude about it. She needs to learn how to treat paying customers. Parking in the gravel and mud is still a problem for the elderly and handicapped. Tried to take a 2nd piece of fish for her to take home they would not allow. For $19 a head, you should be able to take home what comes out in initial serving to table. Have been driving by here for years and finally made plans to check it out. We dinner on Wednesday evening to try the AYCE fish and chicken. There were 4 adults and 1 child; all the adults got the AYCE special, my daughter had chicken tenders. Two of us enjoyed it a lot and the other 2 didn't care for it at all. They bring the food out family style and we appreciated the individual cups of melted butter for the baked fish. Portions were good and service was great. The two who didn't enjoy said the baked fish was too dry and the fried was too greasy; my husband said he thinks the fried fish was re-fried. The chicken was overcooked and didn't look appetizing but did have good flavor if it wanted so dry. Overall I enjoyed it but my husband won't be back. read more

A classic supper club is southeastern Wisconsin. We made reservations ahead of time to enjoy a family style Friday fish fry. We arrive about 10 minutes ahead of our reservation time, and waited about 20 minutes until a table was ready. We did have a large group so it's understandable that they had to wait for enough table and chairs to be available. None of our group had been there before and we had to request menus since we were not aware of the dinner options. The Friday menu is limited so we made decisions pretty quickly, but it did feel a little rushed by the staff. We had the all you can eat fish and chicken, a great deal for our group. The food was good and came out pretty quickly. We had plenty to eat! The parking lot/area is slightly disorganized as there isn't much definition in parking spaces, there is plenty of room to park, but confusing to navigate. read more

I've been going to the Blue Heron for many years. Last night was the last night. We arrived early for fish fry. Met friends and went to get on the list. We were offered a table with 6 seats when we were only a party of 4. We took it!! We then entire the AYCE fish and chicken buffet. Great as always. W were having great conversation with our group and I ordered a drink. It was the first I had ordered at our table. She rolled her eyes, got the drink and harshly plopped it in front of me. We were all like what the heck??? It became clear very quickly and the staff said so we could hear "we need this table for a group of 11". We had not been at the table an hour yet. I understand busy BUT what the heck???? If they wanted our table they should have found is a spot to sit not in the dining area to enjoy our after dinner drink and conversation. I was so excited to find a place that does an all you can eat fish fry on a Wednesday!!! It comes with both fries and baked and fried chicken too! The food was pretty good. The service was great and fairly fast and the servers were great at making sure we had more food and our drinks were full. Tried a spicy Bloody Mary and thought it had great flavor but missing a "chaser". Smaller place and chairs pretty close. So close we had to move one of our chairs because we couldn't all fit. I would go back to try some other things on the menu but I don't think I would go back for the fish fry again. read more

We are slowly crossing off our supper clubs list and Blue Heron was up! You can make reservations! And when you do, if you want prime rib-RESERVE IT. All the busiest supper clubs usually run out by 6-6:30 on the weekends. We were able to sit right away with our reservations but waited a LOOOOONGGG time to place our drink order, and then to get them. It's like every step for this place is in slow motion. A lot of older supper clubs try and make it into an experience. Blue Heron is no exception to that tradition. We were there for almost two hours, even with sitting right away and ordering our food right away. But because there was an appetizer, then the soup and salad have to wait longer, and then the food. The food was AMAZING, don't let me description thus far deter you. It was worth it. But I just want to lay out that information ahead of time, because it needs to be on a night that you have ZERO plans afterward and pay the babysitter extra. read more

You are asked if you want fish & chicken. Waitress arrives brings 2 half slices of rye bread and oil based coleslaw along with something resembling tater sauce. We were served 3 small chunks of lukewarm baked fish, 3 small chunks of fried fish, 1 chicken wing which weighed about 1/2 an ounce and 1 thigh. We had a small plate of cold french fries. We caught the waitress and told her this. She actually rolled her eyes grabbed the plate and stormed off. The restaurant is very busy, very loud, bus girls are constantly grabbing dirty plates off the table. The food was mediocre with little to no seasoning. The tarter sauce was strange, we asked the waitress what it was because it was so garlicky she said " DON'T YOU KNOW WHAT TARTER SAUCE IS? there is no garlic in it!" We will not return. If you are looking for great chicken try Pizza Ranch. Cost for the fish/chicken $17 they charge 3% if you use a credit card. Last night our first time. Parking lot is rough and building looks drab; but, first impressions were wrong. The staff was welcoming and the service was outstanding. We usually judge a supper club by the Old Fashions and these were excellent. Had bourbon sweet - Generous pour with tasty mix. I had prime rib, and it was probably the best I've had - done medium rare perfectly! Garlic mashed potatoes were also outstanding. Spouse had the steak sandwich and she felt it was also great. Reasonably priced and very relaxed, unpretentious supper club. We are fans and will return. read more

We made a reservation for 7:00 pm yesterday. Despite having a reservation, we still had to wait 15 minutes to be seated. After we were seated, we were informed that they were out of prime rib. I saw another reviewer say that all good supper clubs are out of prime rib by 6:00 on the weekends. This is simply not true. We've been to many supper clubs and this is the first time we've had that happen. We almost left at that point but figured we'd give it a try. The waitress did tell us that if we want prime rib, we should tell them when we make the reservation and they'll reserve some. They should probably mention that when they take your reservation. They have signs up saying that they started implementing dual pricing (one price for cash and another for credit) in April. The pricing on the menu only applies to cash so if you're paying with a card like we were, you have no idea what the prices are. I get that the 3% can be difficult for restaurants to absorb but they should at least have the credit prices on the menu and this is another thing they should let you know when you make the reservation. Our waitress was very nice but mixed up our order with another table's order twice. The potato leek soup was awesome and the rest of the food was fine but nothing to write home about. Overall, it was fine but we probably won't be back considering that there are other restaurants we like better in the area. read more

It was very busy. Its always very busy and that means something. There were a lot of staff and bussers flying around. The wait was about an hour on a first come first serverd basis on a Friday night. The kids were bored, but the adults can have a few drinks while we wait. When we got to our table it the food took about 10 - 15 more mins, not terrible. The parking lot that was terrible. We made reservations and were seated right away upon arrival but waited more than 25 minutes before anyone approached us w/menus and only after I went to the bar to order drinks. Other customers who were seated after us were waited on almost immediately. Some customers seated after us, had their meals before we even ordered ours! By the looks we received, we suspect this may have been because we were masked up & Wisconsin believe there's a pandemic. After waiting for a waitress for 20 minutes I went to the bar to order drinks. The bartender initially ignored me & continued his conversation with another patron. Another bartender finally asked me what I wanted to drink (I was standing at the waitress station at the bar). I ask for a particular kind of vodka in my drink and was told they didn't have it. I had to ask for a lime for my vodka & tonic & got the stink eye from her. She asked me something about our waitress and I said we've been sitting there for over 20 minutes and we don't know who our waitress is. A waitress finally appeared and asked us if we needed more time with the menu (Are you kidding??) We ordered immediately before she could disappear. The best part of the meal was the white fish appetizer which is recommended. The relish tray was nice but the rest of the meal was mediocre at best. Definitely a place for the locals. My wife and I happened to be in the area at a grandkids little league game and wanted to have dinner afterwards. I read a few reviews on Yelp and decided - since it was a Friday - to give this place a shot as its reviews for its all you can eat fish and chicken were pretty good. Without getting into a lengthy review regarding it's interior and exterior - suffice it to say that it wouldn't hurt to update both a bit and possibly put in an automatic air freshener in the entrance area. Additionally, while there is a sign sort of propped up on the ground that's lit, it wouldn't be the easiest place to drive by without noticing it. Down to the important part. We decided to sit at the bar and have a drink while perusing the menu to decide whether to stay for dinner. I just had a few bottled beers and my wife had a very good Brandy Old Fashioned done her way - a bit picky but they gladly made it the way she wanted. Two Coors Lights and the cocktail totaled $13 - not sure of the price breakdown but that seemed reasonable - especially for a call brandy. I'm not sure but I got the impression the bartender was one of the owners. I left a $3 tip to close out the tab before dinner as he said that's how he does it. They have a abbreviated menu on Friday nights but unless you're a vegetarian, there is enough variety to accommodate most folks - besides the main event of chicken and fish, there's a burger, chicken sandwich, chicken fingers and a few other choices. They did accommodate my vegan wife with an off-menu baked potato and salad and she enjoyed both - a very reasonable $3 apiece. My fish and chicken was $17 and both orders were surprisingly brought out in under five minutes. I requested the baked fish only (not the fried version) and chicken. I also told the server I didn't want a few other normally included items - bread and coleslaw. My wife enjoyed her salad and baked potato and my fish was very good although I'm not big on french fries but there wasn't another choice to my knowledge anyway. I was really filled after eating the fish and called my waitress over and explained we had come from a game and I had a pretzel and gatorade there and was already stuffed. I said that often restaurants won't let you take out family style food but since I didn't order any extra servings and my initial order came out with three pieces of fish and one chicken breast I'd like to take the sole piece of chicken home. I thought there would be no issue but to my surprise she informed me the only way she could allow that would be to charge me $2.50 extra. I understand policies but charging me $2.50 extra to take home the sole piece of chicken I was served - when in actuality I could sit there and eat ten pieces more of their chicken for free - did not set well with me. But, I did not complain at all. Just before asking her I told her I wanted another beer but after learning of the additional fee for the chicken - I cancelled the beer and just asked for the check. Actually, I asked for a glass of water and the bus gal came over with a glass and proceeded to accidentally dump it all over the table - and me. Mistakes happen. We got the bill - I left another 25% tip and we went on our merry way. All in all, I'm giving the place four stars. Personally, I won't be back because of the additional charge policy. It'd be understandable if I'd ordered an extra serving but all I wanted was to take home the one piece of chicken I was served when I paid $17 for all-you-can eat fish and chicken. I didn't order extra fish either in case you're wondering. Whatever - I'm not entitled to make their policies and I have no interest in doing so and I didn't complain. But, the customer always has the last word via their patronage and I simply won't be back. You're welcome to go there and try the fish and chicken - both are good - and eat until you have to unbutton your belt. They had a limited menu due to a fish fry fetish in Wisconsin on Friday the fried fish was good the baked fish was just ok the baked chicken breast was dry tasty, but dark meat was good. The bartenders were nice and took great care of us. We were called for a table at 6pm. When my husband was seated, the host told him they were out of prime rib. They opened at 5. How were they out already? The host told him we should have ordered it ahead of time. When we made the reservation, we were not asked if we would be ordering prime rib. I was deeply disappointed by my most recent visit to the Blue Herron unbeknownst to me customers must reserve Prime Rib which was the purpose of my visit. The meager fare littering the menu was uninspiring at best I finally chose "Tenderloin" tips a discerning plate can effortlessly identify tenderloin cut from (chuck roast) which is what I received. There were in fact a few (3) mushrooms in the bland gravy that was not sufficient to cover the entirety of the noodles on my plate. This supper club is a hidden gem!! I've lived in Waukesha for the majority of my life, but only recently discovered that this place even existed by simply driving south of the I-43 on ramp on 164. While I do wish the entrance to the building was easier to navigate, once inside you feel like you're up nort' for sure! It's cozy and vintage with very few decorative thrills - it doesn't need any of that! The food, drinks and service speak volumes for the place. We did come for the Friday night fish fry and it was packed (7:15pm arrival - 35 min anticipated wait). We got drinks at the bar which was standing room only. Some patrons seated at the bar helped by ordering our drinks for us - everyone feels like a friend in here! We even shared a bar table with another man waiting to be seated for dinner. Their old fashioneds and amaretto sours are on point! Our wait was accurately estimated. Once seated, our order was taken quickly and our server, Ginger, gave us constant updates. She was fast and friendly despite having a high volume of tables to tend to. Even their busboy was interactive and super nice. I had never heard of an all-you-can-eat fish fry including fried chicken, so I was skeptical but intrigued. The family-style servings were perfect for our party of three. All of the food was PHENOMENAL. Their beer-battered cod was crispy, the baked cod was smooth and moist... and the chicken... OMG, the chicken! It's definitely brined and/or soaked in buttermilk overnight - super, super tender with deliciously crispy skin. Their homemade Tartar sauce is excellent - pretty sure the secret ingredient giving it a unique flavor is olive juice. It's robust and creamy. Haystack onion rings are portioned big enough to feed a basketball team! I didn't try the fries; but those I was with devoured them, so I assume they're tasty.
