solid 3 stars. with all the hype of this place and the great reviews. I was not that impressed with the food. the gravy they made was very bland which took away tremendously from the meal I had. although I can not remember the name of the dish I had. but it was basically an eggs Benedict and sub out the hollandaise sauce for a sausage gravy. maybe this place all had 5 star reviews because this area does not offer much for good breakfast restaurants. I would go back, but not with high expectations. read more

After an awesome trip to Portland where we ate tons of great food, Fiance and I are already planning to come back to this place. We were in Portland for the week. We decided to rent a car and drive to Cape Meares Lighthouse by way of the Tillamook National Forest. It was a beautiful drive, and by the time we got to the coast, we were starving. Fiance had been pushing for this Blue Agate Cafe place, and we used what little cell phone reception we had to GPS our way to its tiny parking lot. Blue Agate Cafe is tiny, really tiny. If you're not looking for it, you could easily miss it. It's run by two friendly guys who (I believe) are brothers. Despite it being only 11, they agreed to serve us lunch. We each ordered a bowl of Blue Agate Seafood Chowder and the Crab and Shrimp Melt. I will never forget this meal: it was that good. The Chowder's incredible. Go for the bowl, not the cup. You won't regret it. But this melt. You guys. It's freaking amazing. Fresh, basily, HUGE portions of seafood, delicious pesto...my mouth is watering as I type this. We enjoyed lunch and a cold beer and looked out at the water. It was perfect. I know this place is known for it's breakfast, and I'm sure it's incredible, but go order that sandwich. Thank you, fellow Yelpers for sending us here. Almost passed it up, because no one was in there. It was the dinner hour, and I think they are known for breakfast/lunch. The service was (of course) excellent :)... But the food was amazing! House made manicotti filled with shrimp and fresh bay crab...ricotta was balanced with garlic and Parmesan, and the bechamel on top was bubbly and browned in the edges.... Best seafood manicotti ever! It was so good that we decided to try them out for breakfast the next morning. Did. Not. Disappoint. The crab cakes are among the top five I've ever had in my life, and the red potatoes were perfectly crisped and seasoned... It's a family affair here, and the service is perfectly casual friendly, as you'd expect in a surfer community. A hidden gem for sure! Amazing clam chowder and seafood. Everything is fresh and tastes spectacular. The seafood melt was to die for and the fries were super crunchy and tasty. Beautiful little gem right by the ocean. Wonderful seafood and cheap drinks ($6 glass of wine). We recently had their crab cakes appetizer and mussels which were fantastic. I also enjoy their Oregon berry spritzer. read more

Opens at nine in the morning for breakfast. Some good views if you sit at the best tables. Oldies music on the ancient radio. Relaxed and convivial atmosphere. Plenty of breakfast choices, but the coffee is a little weak and won't give you much of a kick. My wife had the seafood scramble and I had the house special, which is crabcakes with eggs and potatoes. Both dishes are extremely filling and tasty especially when you throw in a giant homemade white flour biscuit with butter. We were full most of the day after consuming these enormous breakfasts. But we did get a bit of a tummyache so be aware of what happens when you go overboard with the delicious potatoes. Friendly service. Reasonable prices. See photos below of our two dishes. read more

I had some time to kill while waiting for a ride, so I chose the Blue Agate Cafe to get a bite before hitting the beach one last time. I'm glad I did! Highlight was the Rockfish tacos. 2 to an order and they were delicious. Not spicy at all. Some hot sauce would be nice...but they definitely stood on their own without any. I also ordered an Arnold Palmer and I can honestly say it's the best one I've ever had. If you are deciding where to eat in Oceanside, I would easily recommend Blue Agate. read more

I think this place used to just be open for breakfast and lunch, and now does dinner based on the reviews...? We went for dinner and it was pretty disappointing. The chowder was luke warm and did not taste fresh. We also got the Seafood Sampler, which was pretty underwhelming. The service was kind of crazy bad, which is weird bc all the other reviews said it was great. I think it's because we came for dinner. I even think it was the owner that sat and served us. He was just very not warm and when I asked what he liked best on the menu, he said, "I don't know, I'm not the one that's going to eat it." It was kind of bizarre. I would say come here for breakfast based on the reviews, but skip the dinner. read more

I will have to say that it was clear, since there are only several restaurants here in Oceanside, that you should visit this one if you are here. Nice Yelp Reviews already - we lucked out on a sunny day - gorgeous views. The owner waited on us and she was lovely. Breakfast - they do right! I have to say, I think it is the BEST crab cakes I have ever had! She said it's a secret they make themselves - her two sons are the chefs. (not "cooks" - truly they are wonderful in the kitchen) The homemade biscuits were swell (I am a biscuit & gravy fanatic) - the gravy really delicious as well. Fascinating pics on the walls from the 30's I think of what it looked like then. Flowers on every table were a nice touch. They will be putting new tables in she said soon. A nice fireplace which must be cozy in there on a winters rainy beach day. They are only open for breakfast and lunch - off season. I understand their dinner meals in the summer are fantastic (and who wouldn't want to have a cocktail sitting there looking right at the ocean) NOTE: It is very small. If you are here in season - expect a wait!!! We did not have to wait at all b/c it is April. I can see tho, on a summer's day they must be packed. It is only steps from the beach - and on a not busy day - plenty of parking right there. The only thing that was missing is great diner-type coffee cups for sale :) I DID buy the t-shirt though - as I am a mermaid fan. read more

This feels like having breakfast at a friend's house. If your friend has an awesome view of the Pacific Ocean, that is. Cozy and super friendly. I was created with a hearty welcome, sat down, and was pointed to the coffee (it was 9:30) -- help yourself, "fix it how you like it." I liked that very much. No waiting for refills, just help yourself to a mug and good coffee with sugar and cream available and also hazelnut creamer if you prefer. I liked the relaxed atmosphere a lot and the friendliness that never felt forced, just familiar. I ordered the sausage benedict -- sausage and homemade biscuits topped with an egg any style, sausage gravy, and cheese. Nicely seasoned red potatoes on the side. I could have used a little more gravy if I'm honest but it's not like there wasn't plenty of food -- I couldn't finish the whole plate. It was delicious and hearty. I paid my tab and with a friendly wave and "have a wonderful day!" I set out to walk it off along the beach. I liked this place a lot. It's a lot like Oceanside itself, in that it's not a tourist trap but small and inviting. No pretension at the Blue Agate -- just feeding people and feeding them well. read more

We were camping at Cape Lookout and wanted a nice breakfast to start our day. This is a quaint little cafe with an ocean view. Service was friendly and our food was fantastic. Definitely not great for large groups. The breakfast menu had no omelettes. Which is my go to. Other then that it was perfect. read more

Stumbled upon this place site seeing at the lighthouse. We were famished and this place looked tiny cute. The lady warmly welcomed me and my two Russian friends that had no idea what the chips were in fish n chips! All the food was made from scratch. That fish chowder was spectacular! Nice cafe right at the beach. Super friendly staff treats you like family. We were here for breakfast. The menu wasn't overly complicated, but had enough to please most tastes. While on vacay we stopped here for breakfast after the recommendation of Ben at the Terimore Hotel. And I am glad he told us to eat here. From the moment you walked in to the moment we left the staff made us feel like family. I love the fact that they have a counter with self serve coffee. I am a peson that needs their coffee pronto and this is the way to go. I ordered the breakfast sandwich and my husband ordered the french toast with ham.
