My mom and I found this cafe listed on Yelp and purposefully drove to Oceanside from highway 101 - it did not disappoint! We both had the fresh crab tacos and berry lemonade with fresh Oregon berries. They were the best tacos I have ever had! A mixture of crab, peppers, aioli, avocado cilantro in a soft corn shell. The flavors all bursted together amazingly. The lemonade was fresh and delicious. We will not hesitate to go off the beaten path again to hit up the Blue Agate Cafe! read more

Looks like the foodie scene of Portland hasn't caught on yet in Oceanside...it was a disappointing experience. The coffee was hot a delicious. Serve yourself coffee bar. My husband said the breakfast burrito was delicious. I had the crab cakes & eggs... Melts in your mouth. I'm a bit perplexed as to why all of the reviews are so positive. Maybe people are just comparing this to other options in the area. But I can just say that our experience was pretty negative. We ordered the country Benedict and a Sandy sandwich ... The Benedict came with homemade potatoes. Half of the potatoes were totally burnt to a crisp. And the sausage tasted frozen. They brag about their homemade biscuits but ours were quite dense and not great. And the service was terrible. Nobody ever came by to refill water or check on us. We had to get up twice to ask for water and get extra napkins. They weren't even that busy so I'm not sure what the deal was but overall I would not recommend this spot. read more

I absolutely love this little cafe in Oceanside. Lucky because there are not many choices. We had the pan fried rock fish and seafood cobb salad. Both were excellent. The only reason for 4 instead 5 stars is because they put too much flour in their chowder. It has good taste but it is overwhelmed with the taste of uncooked flour. I hope they see this and fix the chowder because it could be very good. read more

We drive down ... parking lot full.. found a spot finally.. waited 7 minutes behind another couple at desk to be acknowledged while hostess fumbled with calculator and ticket. We had a party of two. She looks at me.. it's now 1:27pm.. internet and front door post closing time as 3. She looks at me. Party of two? Yes please. She says well actually we are closing at 2 today. I say ok ... she says well there's a lot of people that haven't gotten their food yet. Soooo I ask, Are you saying you are not going to serve us? She looks at me like I asked the most ridiculous question in the world ... I'm saying there's a lot of people that haven't gotten their food, so yeah. Sad. So I'm sayin if you're gonna close an hour early post it somewhere ...anywhere!! I'm saying if you decide for some ridiculous reason that you are gonna stop seating people 30 minutes before the unposted hour early you randomly intend to close ..maybe unplug your open sign??? I'm saying people, if you are gonna eat here do yourself a favor and call and see if they have their stuff together enough to be serving food that day at all before you waste the time to find a place to park to walk in and stand in line for nothing. read more

We decided to try this place for lunch, after reading all the great reviews. Unfortunately I cannot give it more than 3 stars. I am only giving it 3 stars because my husband and daughter enjoyed the fish tacos. My crab and shrimp salad was so so, and I found it very small for the $16 price tag. My son ordered the fish and chips, which were nothing special and kind of greasy. The service was good, but we felt rushed because they were busy. The total cost was $65, for lunch this seems a little spendy. read more

My friend and I ended up in quaint Oceanside today to seek out the Three Arch Rocks, and while they were hidden from view by fog, lunch at Blue Agate made it worth our while! The staff were sweet and helpful (including the chef who popped out to see that everything was good!), food was fantastic, and view couldn't be beat. We both got the pan-fried rockfish - so fresh, it was the best food we'd had during our road trip up the coast, and we've had some great meals! The seafood chowder was also delicious. This quaint little cafe is located right by the beach. The serve fish & chips, burgers & fries, chowder, sandwiches, and tacos. At the time of our visit on July 4th, they were very busy and a little understaffed. However, I can't imagine how they would have added an extra person out on the floor or kitchen as the dining area and kitchen is very small. With 2 people in the kitchen and 2 people out serving in the dining area, they went as fast as they could with the amount of people coming in and out. With that being said, we waited about 10 minutes for someone to take our order and an additional 30 minutes for our food to come out. Because we had no plans to go anywhere after and our Airbnb did not allow us to check in early, it wasn't a big deal for us on the long wait time. However, I can see if a party had places they needed to go, they might be waiting a little more than they would like. We ordered a seafood chowder and a crab and shrimp melt. The chowder was lacking seafood. Maybe a few pieces of shrimp, small chunks of clam, but mainly all potato. It was thick and heavy on the cream with very little seafood taste. The crab and shrimp melt came with avocado, basil, and house made pesto. The basil and pesto taste was excellent on the sandwich. Very good flavor, however, could barely taste crab, nor see much crab. The melt came with a side salad. We chose the berry vinaigrette which was really good! It had a sweet and tangy taste, would definitely love to have this dressing on all my salads. Dining area is quite small indoors. that does include a great view of the beach. They do have patio dining outside, which is a nice add during the warm weathers. Overall, decent dining experience in the area with friendly staff. read more

Stayed at the beach this last weekend and based on Yelp we tried the Blue Agate for lunch. Food was delicious, had the Agate burger with jalapeños, my friends had a chicken bacon sandwich and a plain Jane (build your own burger). Ended up eating dinner & breakfast there and will be back. read more

Just in town for the weekend, my brother and I dined here for every one of our meals. Each was outstanding: real ingredients, refined preparation, and great, comforting flavor. Service was authentically polite, attentive without being intrusive. Ambience was comfortable and tastefully decorated. We have been stopping by this gem for years. The rockfish sandwich is amazing. Anytime I'm in there I have heard someone talking about how good their food is. And it's true!! This is a perfectly charming little place in the end-of-the-road town of Oceanside. I used to hang out here 50 years ago when I was a kid, and unlike much of the rest of the Oregon coast, this town is little changed. The service here was slow. (Did they have to go dig clams to complete the chowder?) Everyone who works here is sincerely interested in making your experience worthwhile, and the food is good, if not great. The view is knockout terrific, no matter the weather. A worthy stop, made above average by the charm of the place. read more

Lots of windows for the view of the water. Friendly staff who seem genuine with their customers. Went for lunch and had some pretty amazing fish & chips and chowder. Really loved the chowder. Also came for breakfast the next morning, and had a simple breakfast of eggs, potatoes, and bacon, and my tummy was very happy. I like how this place doesn't try too hard. It's simple, cute, and has decent food with decent prices. No waits when we went in the summer at 1 PM on a Friday and 10 AM on a Saturday (though more people started rolling in at 11). Hands down the best breakfast I've had in a LONG time. I highly recommend the biscuits - plain or with jam or gravy. They are phenomenal. I'm a bit of a biscuit snob and these are made with real milk, and fresh ingredients. And are HUGE. My breakfast partner got a crab, avocado, egg scramble which was equally wonderful.
